Okay so I tried to make an animated stamp once again this time actually following this tutorial. Well most of it at least, cuz when it came to fix the 'canvas' size on the gif, they say you have to go to a different site to do it. But I figured out you can just fix the size on the first site so idk at least it doesn't have crusty stamp frames like the 'breakcore fans' one have The gif I used is a screen recording from this video by SCRB aka some random corrupt boi (go watch their animations they're very silly)

Survey: Socially Responsible Consumer Behavior

A Socially Responsible Consumer Behavior (SRCB) is taking into account one’s own consumption decisions’ impact on the environment and society. The consumer ”[…] purchases products and services which he or she perceives to have a positive (or less negative) impact on the environment or uses his/her purchasing power to express current social concerns” (Roberts, 1995, p.98).

Last month, I collected empirical data to better understand the SRCB’s influence on sustainable consumption. These empirics are 200 surveys filled-out by students from Linköping University. Some of them also participated in the Eye Tracking Experiment. Once analyzed, the results can be used to better understand the green gap: the difference between attitude and behavior. Even though a shift towards more socially conscious consumer behavior seems to be occurring, there are still many inconsistencies between expressed consumer attitudes (survey data) and consumer behavior (experiment data). Some questions are specifically oriented on the extra amount of money consumers would pay for sustainable products.

The objective is this survey is to test hypotheses on the relationship between consumers’ sustainable behavior and their willingness to pay (WTP) for sustainable products. The survey consisted of two parts. The order of the questions was not altered in between respondents. 

                           The first part is an adapted version of Robert’s (1995) Socially Responsible Consumer Behavior (SRCB) 5-point Likert scale. James Robert presents SRCB as ”[…] a two dimensional construct” based on the Ecologically Conscious Consumer Behavior (ECCB) and the Socially Conscious Consumer Behavior (SCCB) dimensions (1995, p.104). Respectively, the original SRCB scale is a combination of 17 questions measuring “[…] consumer behaviors whose intent is to protect the environment” and 8 questions measuring ”[…] social concerns in consumer behavior” (Roberts, 1995, p.104-105). I updated Robert’s scale according to contemporary circumstances to reflect the changing nature of ecologically conscious consumption (see Table 1 below) and I used a 7-point Likert scale ranging from totally disagree to totally agree. I also translated it into Swedish so that the respondents—Swedish undergraduates—fully understand each questions. My updated SRCB is a 24-items questionnaire (see Del 1), which was tested on 3 academics and corrected when necessary. 

                            The second part of the questionnaire (see Del 2) concerned the consumer’s willingness to pay (WTP) for sustainable products, i.e. fair-trade coffee. Question 25. is based on Loureiro & Hine (2002) and Loureiro & Lotade (2005) who ask consumers to value different product sustainable attributes. Modifications were made on,

the number of attributes: Organic and Fair-trade—whereas Loureiro & Hine (2002) looked at Organic, Local-grown and GMO-free attributes; 

changes for the Swedish currency and language; 

and the range of bid intervals of the payment card method: 11 possible bids with intervals of 3.3% of the normal product cost—whereas Loureiro & Lotade (2005) used 10 bids with intervals of 1.5% of the normal product cost.

Additionally, Taylor & Boasson (2014) emphasize that it is important to define ecological and fair-trade products as respondents may not know what differentiate them. Therefore, I wrote down the following definitions in footnotes:

Ecological products (such as Änglamark or KRAV in Sweden) are made of organic materials, meaning that they come from organic farms where synthetic pesticides, genetically modified organisms and chemical fertilizers are not used.

Fair-Trade products (such as Fairtrade, UTZ Certified or EcoSocial in Sweden) aims to improve the working and living conditions for farmers and workers in developing countries through fair trade. A large part of the Fairtrade-labeled goods are also organic, but Fairtrade and KRAV are independent of each other.

Questions 26. 27. 29. are based on Laroche et al.'s (2001, p.508) questions to measure consumer’s WTP for environmentally friendly products. No major modifications were made but for translation purpose. Questions 29. 30. are translations of Taylor & Boasson’s (2014, p.7-8) questions on the consumer’s reasons for their WTP for fair-trade products—here: coffee.

                            Now the fun begins! I will start playing around with the variables…

Does the fact that people buy recycled toilet paper influences the amount of money they’ll pay extra to have fair trade coffee?

Are consumers willing to pay more for organic or for fair trade products?

Can a shopping place make consumers more sustainable?
