Can we PLEASE consider the IMPLICATIONS of the new doll quests for the keepers?!

Like, I’m assuming Erissa is using them to spy. Not super worrying, you might say. Who cares if she’s keeping an eye on the castle or on a runestone that’s no longer active. Or on a location where something happened to occur once.

But I’d like you to consider some of the other locations here.

This is a HORRIFYING development for the keepers! Do you understand the implications of this?! Erissa is surveilling all these locations which means she KNOWS about them! Places that were supposed to be secret and that hold powerful artifacts!

AND YOU CAN’T EVEN FIGHT IT PROPERLY! Yes you can scare them off. FOR A DAY. Then they RETURN!

did i wait almost a year for a new quest? yes. was it worth it? kinda

however i'm surprised by myself because i actually like erissa so far. yea her design is a lil weird, but the whole hobby horse thing is actually really interesting (i am more interested in the hobby horse itself then her though i will admit)

i also noticed something interesting during her intro in-game. i'm not sure if it's intentional or not because i have not kept up with anything game related since late 2023 but the white textures / hair on erissa's horse actually look like real hide and mane grafted onto the yarn? and the nails in the hooves?? ohh it's giving me vibes similar to the doll scene in coralline. i really hope nihili gets some lore and isn't just a plot design for erissa

(because if I didn't share this information with these 2 people who will read this, I would be tearing off the panels with my teeth from the excess of thoughts in my head)

You know what she reminds me of now? If you spill something in the kitchen and it is difficult to wash it off, the kitchen floor becomes sticky for some time. It's a very unpleasant feeling when you walk there, because your socks or slippers or something stick to it... Erissa is the kind of sticky floor in the kitchen.

She gives me the vibe of a goblin who sits in the basement and she sits in the basement and everyone watches the sun... So she puts a stick out through this small basement window so that people can trip over it.

Even though she seems like such a mean child who doesn't respect anyone, do I see potential and a cool character in her? You can see that she is strong and does not hesitate to use her strength to the detriment of others. I feel the same way about her as I do with Darko, I'm supposed to dislike her and act against her, but does she have something nice about her? I would give her chocolate and a pat-pat on the head and tell her that she is a good child.

When I see her, I think "Playful destructiveness, realizing one's own agency" and on the one hand it is so silly, but on the other hand it is disturbing? Like Erissa, she seems to be an ordinary girl wearing a sweater made by her grandmother, but in fact she is some kind of demon with incredible strength that could kill anyone.

And here I should give an end, but this writing always comes out so akward to me, so I'll just say that Erissa promises to be a very interesting character (if they don't screw it up) and I'm glad that Darko is back BECAUSE DARKO IS GREAT. I love the sso fandom and I love Darko.

Erissa's Doll

It's finally done! Here is my take of Erissa's dolls..or puppets? Do we know what SSO is calling them yet? I admit, I messed up the proportions a bit and it isn't exact to the game model, but I'm still so proud and think it came out really cute! This was the first time I made my own pattern, and while there are things I think I would do differently next time, I'm still pretty happy with her!

DISCLAIMER! This is my first pattern, so it may read rough. These are the exact steps I used to make the doll in the picture, but feel free to modify to look closer to the original.

MATERIALS

Weight 4 in 3 colors. I don't have exact amounts because this yarn came from my stash of rug yarn. Definitely less than a full ball, probably about 1/3 to 1/2. I believe it was Loops and Threads brand. The bows used a very small amount, less than a fist's size each.

4mm crochet hook

Don’t FO the first leg, leave a hands length tail.

After you finish the second leg, chain 2 and join with the unfinished loop of the first leg.

Rejoin leg 2 with a sc and continue to sc around leg 2.

Continue to sc down the chain and around the next leg. You should have about 52-54 stitches in this round, give or take. Consider the point where you rejoined the second leg after coming back on the side of the chain 2 the start of your round.

NOTE: About here on, your stitch counts might not match mine, and that's okay. The rest isn’t so precise, so if it looks good to you, you’re good!

Stuff the legs.

This is where we start decreasing. On each “decrease round”, you’re going to DEC at the front and back of (for lack of a better term) the crotch.

Stuff firmly and sew to body, stuffing the joint as you close it. Be careful to line your stitches up so the eyes face forward, and don't list to the left like mine did.

So at this point, I know it would be more accurate to attach the arms fluffed and sewn a bit open to the body…but I decided to lightly stuff and slst the opening closed, leaving a tail for sewing.

BOWS (make 2 in different colors)

r1 - ch36, slst into first chain to close the loop, making sure the chain doesn’t twist [36] r2 - (into the sides of the chain) ch1, sc35 [36] r3-10 sc36 [36]

slst and weave the ends.

With the same color, we’re going to make the bow’s knot.

r1 - ch 11 [11] r2 - sc in the second stitch from the hook and down the remaining 9 stitches, ch1 and turn [10] r3-4 - 10sc, ch1, turn [10] r5 - fold your work so the short ends touch and slst to join down the short side [4]

Leave a long tail for sewing.

To assemble, scrunch/gather the first part of the bow you made and slide it through the “knot” with the openings at the top and bottom. Rolling it up and twisting helps. Then fluff out the sides so it looks how you like.

Then assemble! Your head should already be attached. Go ahead and add the arms about 6 rows down from the head connection, or place them visually. Attach the bows to the top using the tail from the knot. Fluff the bows and you're done!

I know Jay is technically more androgynous, and i did try to go for that in one of the earlier concepts, but i just couldn't find an outfit that worked as well as i hoped.

The colours are different I definitely wanted to go down a more autumnal, desaturated vibe for my own colour preference

The eye needs serious blocking but I knew that anyway I’m just waiting to make more squares in the same proportion!

They’re about the size of my hand so hopefully I won’t need many squares

Spoilers for the new story quests

I was expecting them to be a bit longer, but I saw that one of SSOs comments on insta said that the next ones would be out later this summer, so I'm not that annoyed.

It took Maya getting hurt for Alex to finally start acting seriously for the first time in ages, finally.

I actually quite like Erissa for now, she does seem kinda goofy and annoying, but she has the potential to be very competent in fighting the Keepers.

But I was kinda confused when Avalon and Evergray said that they and Fripp were all leaving Valedale to find the other pages of the light ceremony book. I mean if they're not going to return for a long time, then why did they not gather all of the Soul Riders together and tell them. It seems like quite a big thing, now that Valedale is missing some of it's most powerful inhabitants, leaving it open for attack. Yes I know that the Soul Riders will be there to protect it, but they've got no experienced keepers there anymore to guide them. Rhiannon hasn't been on Jorvik nearly as long as them, and she doesn't seem to have enough expertise on what to do should an attack happen. Maybe I've missed something?

Anyways, when Darko was brought back I swear to god I just didnt click anything for like five minutes. I was really excited to see him again, but I was also worried that they might've turned him into a joke character to make the others look good. I was so happy to be proven wrong lol. I appreciate that they still remembered how powerful he is, and didn't let Erissa manhandle him, although she was kinda justified I mean he did just laugh at her after she put in the effort of saving him lmao.

Overall, I'm happy lol
