Garden Optimization: Dual Planter Method

Yesterday, I learned that my previous garden optimization was, in fact, not optimized. I based the original post on research I did myself, but looking back it was not the most sound research. Yesterday I saw the list of combinations on the star stable wiki, and this new garden appeared from that.

This garden is almost fully optimized, but there are two interactions that do nothing. This is intended in this method, as this method intends to have an even number of all plants planted at all times. If the even number does not matter to you, replace the jute marked with a * in the 6-planter with rubia.

Now, for 3-pot planters, the layout is as such:

Bee Balm - Flax - Chamomile This activates the BB-F and F-C interactions for Druid's Sorrow.*

*Alternate of the above: Bee Balm - Chamomile - Flax. This replaces one of the Druid's Sorrow interactions with a Lumopetal interaction.

Jute - Rubia - Moss This activates the J-R interaction for Druid's Sorrow, and the R-M interaction for Lumopetal.

For the 6-pot planters, the names below eachother will mean "across from", and the layout is as such:

Chamomile - Flax - Bee Balm Bee Balm - Chamomile - Flax All of these activate interactions. (BB-F for Druid's Sorrow, F-C for Druid's Sorrow, and BB-C for Lumopetal)

Jute* - Moss - Rubia Moss - Rubia - Jute These almost all activate interactions. (J-R for Druid's Sorrow, and R-M for Lumopetal)

there's something kinda funny how one of the main ways to farm jorvik shillings in this game now is through the path of terra, and more generally by selling lights from hollow woods

you're selling aideen's light. The Goddess Aideen offers you Her blessed light to aid you in your progress through the ancestral druidic arts. and you trade it for money.

you gather 2192418 lights, enough blinding lights to dissipate all the haunting darkness and push garnok back from whence he came. aideen looks upon you from above with pride.

but you shove the lights in your closet, as if but mere clothing

and mutter, "there's a festival very soon and i want the pretty medieval gears, i'll sell all those lights lol"

So. I had heard that light was a good banking strategy, especially if you make different size stacks to have custom selling amounts. I thought I was doing pretty good getting about 2k light a day just by running around and doing the puzzles. Of course I'm still unlocking things on the paths, so I haven't been selling it. I stumbled upon this reddit post where people are sharing tips and tricks and my god??? GARDENING??? Can get you so much light??? And in turn, so many shillings???? And just in time for the Equestrian Festival???

Might be slow here but for anyone struggling, for me personally the planting pattern that worked best looks like this:

Middle : Bee Balm (fertilize that shit)

Left : Chamomile

Right : Flax

Just slap the Bee Balm in the middle

Gets you both Druid's Sorrow and Lumopetal growing

wait how is planting flowers in the garden better than just extracting light from the seeds??

cause you can get 25 light per seed and if you plant it and wait you will only get 10 light, whats the point?

i mean sure there's the special flowers but you dont really get enough to make up for it also you lose a ton of light unlocking all the nodes to get there, am i missing something?

Maybe I'm late, or maybe this will help someone. I think many people have encountered the fact that when collecting rare plants, the game kicks you from the server with the message “suspicion of cheating.” Maybe I figured out how to get around this. The game considers it cheating if you have collected 2 or more rare plants in a row (it throws me out on two already). But if you alternate picking with planting - you collect a rare plant from the garden, plant a new one in this place, or collect an ordinary one. In any case, it seems to me that it is important that there be one or more other actions in between collecting rare plants.

I would be lying if I said I didn't find it a little tedious but it's easier to zen my way through if I have something to listen to/half-watch on the side while I do it.

I did the whole garden for months but nowadays I really just do the ones around the little raised pool and the semi-circle against the hillside. Because I was growing/gathering way faster than I was crafting (I mostly craft hay and treats, so I make Rarity fertilizer by extension).

If I had any advice to give, it would probably be:

Use the mouse directly instead of the E key. It's more precise.

Click the ground where the plant is growing from, not the plant itself (this is often why people click the wrong one).

If your camera is like mine and likes to rotate a little right as you click to harvest, try to keep your horse facing directly away from you before you click.

Plant just one side of a 6-plot cluster so your mouse only has to move horizontally. Unless you're a crafting addict, you're not going to start running out of materials even when growing only half the garden.

Also, unofficially, pay attention to see if one plot in a trio yields flowers more often than the other two even when fertilized. For me, the left one seems to have a higher spawn rate.

I have such mad respect for people who can grind Path of Terra farming in Star Stable. How do you do it??? It's so absolutely mind numbing. There is nothing enjoyable about it, it's just excessively tedious (and clunky) repetitious clicking

Anything requiring precision clicking in SSO is gonna be clunky, so a whole mechanic that is just that? For like 20-30 minutes harvesting and replanting an entire garden? Awful. Miserable. Wretched. I don't know how some of you guys have the patience and I am in awe of you.

im back in the trenches so heres some small(ish) scale stuff i wish sso had:

you could talk to the npcs even if they didnt have quests, even if its just a single line or like “what im busy” when you get too close to them like how they do in fort maria. i love that stuff. i want the mean npcs to tell me to get lost

you could forage for horse food? like why can i forage for rubia and jute and whatever but theres no carrots or apples i can pick. please im spending all my money on gear

kind of related to the last one and ive mentioned it before, but i wish horses had randomly selected favorite and least favorite foods that would give more or less xp if you fed it too them.

the soul riders should have things they do. anne should do dressage training, lisa could go on trail rides, linda could be wandering around the silverglade library, etc. just something so theyre not standing around doing nothing for months.

are all the crafting stations in valedale? if so thats stupid. add crafting stations to ranger outposts and the rescue ranch and other things. if thats already a thing then disregard this

you should get a crafting kit, not for everything, just for like some of the small stuff you get from path of terra or whatever, maybe make it so you can only use it while sitting down somewhere to give sitting and actual use

ngl the Path of Terra REALLY brought me back to sso in the biggest way like oh you can unlock the ability to gain hxp from the plants that grow around Jorvik? Okay you have my full attention I'm going to actually collect light now

Here's an arrangement I'm using on the six-slot mounds to maximize contact between plants that give you a chance to grow rare flowers.

Next I'm going to mix in some chamomile touching the bee balm as well so I can grow both types of rare flowers on one mound.

thoughts/quality of life suggestions for gardening

Overall I like the concept and like, 75% of the execution of the gardening/Path of Terra stuff. It's really just "mm, really wish X was a lil different"

Planting and harvesting one at a time is annoying and time consuming, especially with all plots unlocked. I would love a garden map to manage all plots, perhaps like the stall manager in our stable. Have "Plant All X" and "Harvest All" buttons. Pull up the garden map to see what is growing where. Check half the plots, select a plant, a fertilizer, and done rather than going one by one and clicking over and over in and out of the planting window. I've misclicked on plots that already have plants, enough times it's annoying. I noticed it with the rune 'carving' puzzle but clicking in SSO is unpleasant. Clunky? Laggy? The mouse control in SSO hasn't been smooth on laptops, fussy trying to turn my camera and dragging items to use. It became pronounced with rune carving and planting. The larger the carving puzzle, the more clicking required, the more I got annoyed until I stopped doing them. Doesn't help that I'd click and it wouldn't register me clicking on the puzzle sometimes. Getting off topic.

The Glow Get My Stuff powder is stuck in my inventory. I can't move it to a different spot. By extension, I can't move it to my wardrobe, which is annoying because I have limited backpack space, every spot matters when digging in Dino. Hopefully this is a bug.

Craft multiples at once! I have so much flax let me craft 10 or 20 hays at once! Let me make 10 fertilizers in one go, or Garden Powders, turn in seeds for Light, etc. Maybe make a slider or drop down scroller to select how many to craft, and show how many items it'll consume. Just something to speed up crafting, especially for things that you can and would reasonably make a lot of, like fertilizers and hay.

I hope one day they'll revisit the horse powders, fix them (because I know some of them are mega broken), and turn those into craftable things. The flower powder at the very least would make sense.
