#OTD in 1955 – Death of Irish Patriot, Grace Gifford Plunkett, in her apartment in South Richmond Street, Portobello, Dublin.
Grace Plunkett, née Gifford was a cartoonist, caricaturist and illustrator who was active in the Republican movement. Her marriage to Joseph Plunkett, one of the leaders of the 1916 Rising, a few hours before he was executed, is the subject of a popular Republican song, ‘Grace’, written by Frank and Sean O’Meara in 1985. Ar deis Dé go raibh a hanam. She was born in the Dublin suburb of Rathmines,…

when i was thirteen, i had to write an essay about my journey to god. instead, i wrote about the time i cut my hand on a rusty nail.
rosaries and crosses adorned my math class, watching me, judging me, as i blushed when i pretty girl walked past.
the last two hours of every friday were dedicated to prayer in chapel. i would pretend i was talking with god, but i was always fast asleep.
mass was every wednesday. i refused communion. i've always gone hungry when it came to god.
my eyes swelled and my knees bruised from the wooden pews, where i laid my troubles, just for them to be watered and nurtured so they could fester inside of me.
sometimes i would stumble into confession and beg for mercy from behind the little screen and the priest asked
“how old are you?”
but it didn't matter. i was as guilty as a criminal on death row and my last meal was shame.
but now, im not in catholic school anymore. and now, i treat everyone i meet like i would my eleven year old self,
crying at the pews.

What Are The Dangers of Playing Loud Music When Driving?
Tumblr media
You’re cruising down the open road, windows down, and your favourite music is blasting through your speakers. It feels exhilarating, but what happens when that euphoria turns dangerous? While music can enhance your driving experience, playing it too loudly can lead to severe consequences, both on the road and for your well-being. Here’s a detailed explanation of the consequences of loud music on driving, as shared by a reputed driving school in St. Mary’s:
Diminished Awareness
One of the primary dangers of loud music is its impact on your awareness. High volumes can mask important external sounds, such as:
Emergency vehicle sirens
Honking horns
The sound of approaching vehicles
When you can’t hear these critical audio cues, your ability to respond effectively diminishes, increasing the risk of accidents.
Slower Reaction Times
According to experienced instructors at many a driving school in Blacktown, loud music can significantly affect reaction times. The distractions caused by intense beats and lyrics can delay your response to sudden changes in traffic, such as:
Braking by the car in front
Unexpected obstacles on the road
Pedestrians crossing without warning
A split-second delay could mean the difference between a safe stop and a crash.
Hearing Damage Risks
In addition to road safety, playing music at high volumes poses a risk to your hearing. Prolonged exposure to sound levels above 85 decibels can lead to permanent hearing loss. Over time, this deterioration can affect your quality of life and communication skills.
Staying Safe
To enjoy your music while prioritising safety, consider these tips:
Lower the volume enough to hear important sounds around you.
Be mindful of local noise regulations to avoid fines.
Limit exposure to loud volumes, both in and out of the car.
While music can make driving enjoyable, it’s crucial to keep it at a reasonable level. Prioritising safety can prevent potential accidents and protect your hearing, ensuring that every journey is a safe one. Keep enjoying the tunes, but remember to drive responsibly!

Louisiana students Ne’Kiya Jackson and Calcea Johnson wowed their teachers in 2022 when they discovered a new way to prove the 2000-year-old Pythagorean theorem in response to a bonus question in a high school math contest. But that was only the beginning.
A volunteer at their former school, New Orleans’ St. Mary’s Academy, encouraged them to submit their work on the famous mathematical theory to a professional conference, and in March 2023 they became the youngest people to present at the American Mathematical Society’s Southeastern Sectional conference in Atlanta. Their appearance elicited a wave of media coverage, including a spot on “60 Minutes.” The pair also received symbolic keys to the city of New Orleans and a shout-out from Michelle Obama.
Now Jackson and Johnson, who started college last year, have notched another achievement: authoring an academic paper detailing their original proof — plus nine more. Their work published Monday in the scientific journal American Mathematical Monthly.

Nervous About Your Driving Test? Tips To Make It Right
Tumblr media
Taking a driving test can be a nerve-wracking experience. But with the right preparation from a driving school in Blacktown, you can ease your anxiety and increase your chances of success. Here are some tips to help you stay calm and perform your best on the big day.
Get Plenty of Practice
The more you practice, the more confident you'll feel. Ensure you spend ample time driving in various conditions, such as during different times of the day and in varying weather. This experience will help you become a more versatile driver and better prepared for any situation you might face during the test.
Know the Test Route
Familiarise yourself with the common test routes used by examiners. While you won't know the exact route, being aware of typical patterns and tricky spots can help you anticipate and prepare for potential challenges.
Take a Mock Test
Consider taking a mock driving test with your instructor from a certified driving school in St Marys. This simulation will give you a taste of the real test environment, helping you understand what to expect and how to manage your nerves under pressure.
Stay Calm and Focused
On the day of your test, make sure to get a good night's sleep and eat a healthy meal beforehand. Arrive early to avoid any last-minute stress. During the test, take deep breaths if you feel anxious and stay focused on the road. Remember, it's okay to ask the examiner to repeat instructions if you're unsure.
Follow a Positive Mindset
Maintain a positive mindset. Visualise yourself passing the test and driving confidently. Remember, everyone makes mistakes, and the key is to stay composed and correct them calmly.
By following these tips and by joining a driving school in Blacktown, you'll be well-prepared to tackle your driving test with confidence and ease. Good luck!
