I had a revelatory adventure on July 9th, visiting Joshua Tree National Park with my friend, Susan Neville, after winding up the Idyllwild Arts workshop. Use this link to see the Steller story I made when I got back up the mountain: https://steller.co/s/5uBja3Sw4gG 

Posting this here to the blog, a couple of days later, I realize that my experience in the desert was profoundly emotional, as well as physical. I took the journey using mostly black-and-white camera replacement apps on my iPhone. 

After recovering from the physical strain, I see now that this was both a story about the desert and a chronicle of the emotions I've been feeling so deeply for the last week as our nation is unable to wake up from the nightmare of fear and racial hatred based on nothing more than the illusion of skin color.

In just over 24 hours, “Clear A Way” has been faved by hundreds of folks on Steller and received over 6,250 page views! Amazing! 

If people have a story to tell and want to do it with words and pictures, Steller is an amazing community in which to develop. Can’t thank Mombo enough for the Stellerverse feature that triggered this much attention and connected me with so many new storytellers - in just one day!  

Since this is anything but a “pretty picture book,” I’m pretty excited about the possibilities for yolking my poetry and iPhoneography in Stellers. More soon!

Holy Mackeral! Steller has opened some big fat doors for me this week by listing me in #stellerverse for my story, “Lonely As a Spoiled Moon.”

“Lonely As a Spoiled Moon,” my instant poem and my iPhoneography from a hike on Sunday afternoon, made Top 20 stories read in the last 24 hours and, as of this morning at 9am, had had 3,036 page views! Are you kidding me?

And all this without me actually understanding that much about how the app works - much less how to deliberately connect with people there who are word-and-image artists like me. I finally figured out today that the hashtags in the text of people’s stories and on the end pages are searchable on Steller, so I’m beginning to find some new artist friends there. Still a lot to sample and experiment with, though… 

It only took me three days to figure out that simple thing… ;^( Duh!
