Lawlight Week 2022: Day 2 [Sun]

Light hated it when L stayed up late staring at his laptop, unblinking and silent, eating hard candy after hard candy and looking like a rank combination of a drowned rat and skeleton.

"Ryuzaki," Light said, looking at his captor and wrinkling his nose. Stop crinkling that fucking candy wrapper. "Do you think we could turn in soon?" He asked the same question nightly, whether it was at 9:30pm or 4:00am, though it was fruitless. No matter how exhausted Light was on a given day, when he was permitted to sleep was the detective’s purview. 

L shook his head. “I’m not tired.” 

“But I am! And I can’t go to sleep without you because of the handcuffs, which were your idea, by the way.” 

L shrugged. “Maybe in a little bit, Light-kun.” Don’t -kun me, you bastard.

Light couldn’t help but think of pressing L’s face into the cold tile floor with the heel of his hand. It would have been nice to watch him struggle before resigning to defeat. Then maybe he could get an extra hour or two of sleep. Light wasn’t sure if he was irritable from sleep deprivation, but seeing L sit like a boiled shrimp made his lip curl in disgust. Stop fucking sitting like that. I hate looking at it.

L shifted into a marginally more human position as if he was able to read Light’s thoughts, but not without fumbling the chain that connected their wrists together. Light tried not to groan. Stop jerking the chain. I’m attached to the other end, you cretin. 

The minutes stretched like molasses in a room with no lights beyond the blue glow of computer screens. Twenty minutes might as well have been two hours.

“You’re pouting, Light-kun. Do you still want to go to sleep?” 

“I think it’s obvious that I do,” Light said brusquely, barely stifling a yawn. Despite wanting to convince L to permit him to sleep, yawning aloud felt like a concession. 

“That’s unfortunate. You know I’m an insomniac, Light-kun. You can nap on the couch if you’d like, as long as you stay close enough to my desk so that I can keep working.” L contorted his body back into a Gordian knot. 

“Not everything is about you, Ryuzaki.” Light pressed his fingers into his eyelids until he saw sparkling pinpoints. 

L spun his desk chair in aimless half-moons. “Can we play a game first? My mind is still on the case. Maybe it will settle my nerves and then we can both sleep.”

Tom Waits has been such a huge influence for me with music. What an amazing artist with such a unique sound and huge variety of musical styles. I absolutely love his album Used Songs (1973-1980), a collection of Jazzy songs from other albums he's made. I couldn't pick what song from that album to share so here is three of them. If you want to hear a darker side of Tom I recommend the album Bone Machine.

Step Right Up || Mim + Ferb

The last time Ferb had attended the carnival he had been caught in the middle of an odd situation— with Candace’s now girlfriend. This year he was here with his own girlfriend, walking along beside her through the crowd. (A lot had changed since then, apparently. For the better.) 

He winced as his hearing aids went from helpful to constantly going off until it seemed just like a block of the same level of sound being drilled right into the center of his brain. Ferb elected to reach up and turn them down completely. With all the people and their chatter, plus the noise of the rides and other attractions, he should have known better. The relief was instant, his body language relaxing against it. 

As they reached the block of games Ferb turned to look down at Mim, eyebrows raised a touch, to ask where she would like to begin.

currently writing up lamb's two basic verses. PRE & POST - being bitten by the stranger. the main differences between the two is that in her PRE VERSE lamb may or may not have her children trailing behind her & -------- her blood has the ability to heal & soothe. after being bitten, her blood is constantly struggling to overpower the 'disease' that was fed into her, & as a result of being stifled & diluted so, its effects are rather feeble. what HARM the concoction of her blood may do to another living being remains to be seen.
