Stigbergets Double Headed DDH West Coast IPA (Picked up at Systembolaget in Stockholm). A 3 of 4. If you just drink this blindly, it’s quite good -- lots of tropical fruit and citrus, and a hefty, even slightly creamy body. But it’s not exactly West Coast. Still good, though!

It's my first time in many weeks to post #VinylAndBeerSunday. Due to COVID-19, I have been down for the count. But tonight, I am spinning arguably the last full-on progressive rock release from the classic lineup of STYX. Their eighth album, PIECES OF EIGHT, has been self-described as a concept album about "not giving up your dreams just for the pursuit of money and material possessions." My favorite tunes are I'm OK, Pieces of Eight, Renegade, and Blue Collar Man. The album is a time capsule of the late 1970s, and each song does take me back to that time. I have accompanied these classic tunes with an interesting collaboration brew from EX NOVO BREWING COMPANY (Portland, OR) and STIBERGETS (Sweden). Their SWEDISH HITCHHIKER is a dry, hazy IPA with stone fruit, pine, and hops. So, what are you listening to tonight? 🍔 Review № 624 ━ 📍 Panem ★★★★☆ • The artisan bakery and café Panem opened in 2022 in Stockholm’s Old Town, helmed by the acclaimed pastry chef Gustaf Mabrouk. We usually wouldn’t pay much attention to a burger found on a café menu, but Panem is also a part of the same group that runs craft burger joints such as Barrels Burgers & Beer and Stigbergets Fot. Their menu consisted of a burger with beef, chicken or halloumi, so our choice was an easy one. Panem’s Cheese Burger was pretty classic, with beef, cheddar, lettuce, white onions, pickles and a sauce. It cost 139 SEK (13.5 USD) for a single-patty burger and 159 SEK (15.5 USD) for a double burger. We also ordered some french fries for 39 SEK (3.5 USD). • The buns come from their own bakery, and is the same kind that they use in their other restaurants. It worked great with their burger, of course, and was light, soft and fluffy while still handling loads of beef juices and sauces. The patties were a bit smaller and thinner than in their other burgers, and this made a double-patty burger a compulsory choice in order to let the meat and bread truly shine. The cheese was tasty and creamy, and the vegetables were very fresh and crispy. We missed something to cut through all the savoury beefiness trough, and we would have preferred an acidic (or even sweet) pickle as opposed to their salty variety to cut through and balance out the flavours. The burger sauce was like a tasty mayonnaise and only enhanced the deep umami flavours without adding much in itself. Their french fries were excellent though, and this well-cooked and tasty side-order is an absolute must. • We understand that Panem are looking to serve something different than their sibling restaurants, and we can definitely see that they’re still trying to find the best way to do so. STOCKHOLM červenec 2024

Tohle vlastně vzniklo dost zajímavě - naši kamarádi se chystali na Gudbrandsdalsleden a před tím chtěli strávit nějaký čas ve Stockholmu a nás k tomu přizvali :)

Společné ubytko jsme měli přes Airbnb v části Ormsaltaren a bylo to skvělý místo. Na poslední noc jsem pak měla hostel kousek od autobusáku.

Po příletu jsme si koupili lístky na autobus Flygbussarna (kde byla i skupinová sleva pro víc jak 3 osoby) a jeli se ubytovat. Na jídlo jsme došli procházkou na rybu do Strömmingsvagnen a bylo to fakt super. Pak jsem se courali po městě a směřovali do Moderna Museet, kde je vstup v pátek po 18:00 zdarma. Tam jsme si prošli celou expozici, která se nám moc líbila a šli do Omnipollos hatt na pivo a pak nakoupit do Lidlu :D

Druhý den jsem se vydali na snídani do Café Pascal, pak na vyhlídku Skinnarviksberget, ze které jsme pokračovali do nejlepšího sekáče Beyond retro a pak se ještě courali po okolních obchůdcích. Na oběd jsme chtěli do Meatballs for the People, ale jelikož tam byla docela fronta, tak jsme zamířili do Meetballs & Pancakes, kde také měli různě druhy masových (i nemasových) koulí a moc jsme si pochutnali. Pak už jsme prostě jen chodili po městě a obdivovali místní stavby a ochůdky. Taky jsme náhodou šli na pěknou vyhlídku Katarina gångbro, na jejímž konci je zdarma výtah. A celý den ukončili cestou metrem, jelikož ta tady stojí za to - všechny stanice mají zajímavé designy (lístek si koupíte tapnutím kartou při vstupu a pak by to mělo jít i při výstupu, ale my zrovna byli na stanici, kde se při výstupu netapovalo - takže nás lístek vyšel na 100 Kč) a pivkama v Stigbergets Fot.

Naši poutnící už dnes vyráželi na sever, tak jsme se sbalili, dali si společně snídani a doprovodili je na nádraží. Potom jsem si šli dát věci na hostel a projít se směrem k Nordiska museet, což je procházka kolem pěkné zátoky a taky pak moc hezký park. Oběd jsme si dali v Ikea, která je tu centru města. A pak už jsme moc nevěděli, co ještě podnikat, tak jsem seděli v parku a náhodou viděli střídání stráží. Následně jsme vyrazili k Stockholm Stadium a k půlkruhovému domu v jeho blízkosti. A pak už jen kafíčko, večeře, dokoupení suvenýrů a na kutě.

Ráno už jsem se jen sebrala, koupila si v 7/11 snídani (jelikož mezi autobusákem a hostelem nebyla žádná kavárna) a šla na autobus na letiště (opět jsem jela s Flygbussarnou a jedna solo cesta stojí 290 Kč). To mě dost překvapilo, jak bylo velké - na terminál jsem šla 15 minut pěšky a na gate dalších 20, takže je lepší mít trochu rezervu. No a to byl celý výlet.

Stigbergets Existens Essens Transcendens IPA (Picked up at Systembolaget in Stockholm). A 3 of 4. Smells of stone and tropical fruit, and the body is classic NE hazy in heft. Tasty and packs a lot into 5.9%, but doesn’t exactly stand out among the many, many in this style.

Stigbergets Bryggeri Amazing Haze 6,5% vol. Göteborg, Schweden

NEIPA, IPA oder wie-auch-immer-PA: Diese Version von Stigbergets fließt in komplett trübem Goldgelb ins Glas. In der Nase recht harzige, intensive Hopfenaromen, dazu etwas fruchtige Pflaume.. Geschmacklich dann toll ausgewogen zwischen einem wuchtigen Malzkörper, fruchtigen Hopfennoten und einer opulenten Bitteren, die das Ganze in Schach hält und lange bis in den Nachtrunk reicht. Schubladendenken beiseite: die Schweden haben schlicht ein ziemlich gutes IPA gebraut. Punkt. 9/10
