Images by @Jim_abernethy // I so stoked about my upcoming Orca/Mobulas trip with a spotter plane June 24th thru July 1st, 2023. I've reserved a 12 passenger live-aboard dive vessels to insure intimate encounters for everyone, as well as a spotter plane for 2 of the days! I had the pleasure of enjoying these beautiful Orca with their babies while visiting @alexsharks_ in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico on my last trip there. On that day we were fortunate enough to find them right outside the harbor. We enjoyed their company in the water for 4 hours! It was truly amazing and life-changing! While many people wouldn't get in the water with them, I'm confident that is definitely changing because no Orca has ever bothered a human in the wild...EVER! Overnight Shipping || Shelly, Wes, & Rui

The quest for water continued in the dimming light of evening on the forested slope of the Rocket mountainside. Something about nighttime appealed to Shelly--maybe it was because of the dark-types on her team that she'd become so enamored with it--so she had made a point to slip out of the doors at sunset, catching the last rays of the sun to give her a lighted path in one direction, at least.

She'd kept telling herself she was done trying to make friends with her Sharpedo. She kept saying that, and yet here she was, listening for the sound of running water through the filter of wind-blowing and the occasional Pokemon cry. Shelly honestly wasn't sure if Darla was starting to grow on her or if she just missed Hoenn that much, but either way she was too proud to deal with the answer.

She was getting thirsty.

Surely, amongst all these trees there had to be some water. There were Pokemon flying around and skittering into trees, so it stood to reason that they had all found something somewhere to drink.

Shelly tossed her Pokeball in the air and caught it without looking.

The trickle of running water caught her ear and Shelly came to an abrupt stop, turning her head to try to source the sound. It seemed to be coming... from her left? Yes. Shelly walked off with certainty in that direction, finding herself rewarded with a decently-sized stream in just a few minutes.

"Whale... it's smaller than we used to, that's fo shore..." But Shelly released Darla directly into the water anyway, largely because she couldn't be bothered to go off and look for another water source when the sun was already almost down. The Sharpedo swam around in a small circle and then faced her trainer, hissing at her for giving her such a minuscule offering of a habitat. "It's gon' hafta work," Shelly snapped as she approached the stream herself. 

Lowering herself to a crouch, Shelly dipped her cupped hands into the water a safe distance from her rough-skinned partner. Finally, she had something to wash down her throat. And... well... Shelly could hardly call this a taste of Hoenn, but, like she said.. it'd have to work.

Shelly took her shoes off and stepped into the stream. The water barely came up to her knees--no wonder Darla was pissed. She was on her way to a sit when a yell caught the ears of the both of them. "Now what?" Didn't sound quite like anybody was in trouble, so Shelly wasn't about to go after them... but she was still peeved nonetheless. And here she thought she could have some peace and quiet...

PHOTO 13 - FINAL PHOTO ‘Surfing’ on orca which are stranded ¾ the way out of the water (i.e., when all the person’s weight is pressing on the skeleton and organs) is not the way a person who truly ‘respects’ these animals, behaves. The young calf, who we have been informed is Malia, was approximately 1.5 years old when this photo was taken. The weight of an adult male human, while standing on the spine (including the neck) of a calf in which the skull and vertebrae are not yet fused or fully formed, is beyond unacceptable. As a calf, Malia received extensive attacks from her mother (Taima, the female orca pictured, and who subsequently died from a prolapsed uterus while giving birth to her next calf who was stillborn). Malia would have to be kept in the ‘back tanks’ so that the public couldn’t see how badly raked she was from her mother’s teeth. The faces of the trainers are obscured to be sure that the outrage is about the behaviour, and not diverted towards the individuals (although, clearly, they should be held responsible for their actions, neither still works for SeaWorld). It is the systemic culture that prevails at this company, that we want to expose. SeaWorld’s claim that they don’t mistreat their orca is going to trial today. The evidence that SeaWorld misrepresents how it treats is animals is clear in these photos which have been supplied by a concerned citizen. The three brave Plaintiffs in the Anderson V SeaWorld court case are helping to expose the issues further. The documents which SeaWorld must produce, if the Judge rules in favour of the Plaintiffs, will truly show what goes on behind the scenes. PHOTO 6 Kalina the orca with rake marks and other damage which removed her skin and sub-dermal layer of tissue, from an aggressive encounter with Kayla (who ended up with a broken jaw).Hyper-aggression in these captive orcas is due to the extremely small tanks that they are held in and the over-crowding (in the wild, orca can escape altercations). Also, it is worth keeping in mind that in the wild orca have social structures that they CHOOSE to stay in, but at SeaWorld the orcas are forced to be with orca that they are not compatible with. This is against the law in the USA (under the USA Animal Welfare Regulations § 3.109 “marine mammals that are not compatible must not be housed in the same enclosure”). These orcas were housed together after this event, until Kayla died on 28 Jan 2019).
