Here's a story about a wolf.
It begins a long time ago when a much younger version of me went off to Europe for the first time. I studied in Italy. I walked cobblestone streets. So many cobblestone streets. I rode trains and saw places I might never see again. I came home and those journeys eventually inspired me to paint astronauts.
Last fall I traveled to Europe again. I began in Copenhagen, and spent the next 10 days heading north, first to Malmo and Gothenburg, in Sweden, and then on to Oslo, Norway for a gallery show I was supposed to be having . A show which, I found out just a few days before I was supposed to leave, had been canceled. Well, delayed. To a time and place that wasn't Oslo. This all happened for a very sad and extremely valid reason but it left me traveling Europe, alone, on a trip that suddenly had no real purpose. But it was about to find one.
From Oslo I flew to Riga, Latvia and met up with my brother at the airport, who had arrived just before me from Boston. We spent the next week traveling through Latvia and Lithuania to the places where our ancestors once lived. I didn't really have any preconceived notions as to how this part of the trip would go. There would probably be no long lost Listfield cousins to find. No one in my family is left in this part of the world. I guess I wanted to see where I come from. I wanted to walk the same cobblestone streets my ancestors once did. I didn't expect anything profound to happen. It did though.
Our trip ended in Vilnius, Lithuania's very charming capital city. Arriving late, and tired from the road, we wound up by chance walking along the river that winds its way through the center of town. The sun was setting, and it was a mild September night. People were about. Lots of people. So very many people. My brother noticed it first: something was happening. That's when we saw the wolf.
On the riverbank just ahead of us was a large statue of a wolf. Looming over it was an ancient castle tower, lit dramatically from below and perched precariously on a hill. As the last bit of sunlight faded, the wolf spoke.
I don’t speak Lithuanian, but some quick googling revealed that the wolf was sharing the story of the founding of Vilnius. It spoke in a booming voice, with occasional pauses as music swelled. Fire from an unknown source danced around the bottom of the wolf and eventually, as the night wore on, it was engulfed in flames. Smoke and hot ash fell on our faces. I wondered if we were a safe enough distance away.
As the fire subsumed, we wandered off, dazed, along the river bank with hundreds of Vilnius residents. We had just celebrated the fall equinox and the 700th anniversary of the founding of Vilnius. It felt like we had just been part of something very primeval. I felt Lithuanian. I felt pagan. I felt wolf. I returned to my hotel room, ash still on my face.
My next show THE EQUINOX opens March 21, 2024 at StolenSpace Gallery in London, and features 9 new paintings of an astronaut traveling to some of the places I visited on this trip, accompanied by a wolf who appears in one form or another in each of them. Sometimes as a companion, sometimes as a statue, a relic, a mural, a ghost, or a metaphor.
Epilogue: My third great grandfather was born in the small town of Šėta, Lithuania, sometime around the year 1837. His name was Wolfe.

4me4you visits Stolen Space Gallery which showcased “BE STILL, LIFE”.
‘Be Still, Life’ exhibition brings together StolenSpace artists who capture still life with a fresh perspective, who have put their creative stamp on the classic principle of ‘still life’ art.
We’re living in a world where peace, tranquility and ’stillness’ is ever diminishing, it’s hard to find that stillness when we are presented with fast paced technology, and information at our fingertips. With this show we pause time, offer quiet reflection, and a moment to pause and question what we surround ourselves with. ‘Be Still, Life’ examines still life in our contemporary, and how it has transformed from it’s art historical roots to be relevant in today’s society: a snap shot of the ‘now’.
Artists exhibiting: Beau Stanton, Bennett Slater, Dan Rawlings, Dan Witz, Dave Pollot, David Bray, Hans Sures, Jack Panik, James Joyce, Joram Roukes, Kathy Ager, Kristen Liu-Wong, Nick Sheehy, Noah Verrier, Paul Stephenson, Peter Frederiksen, Sarah Best, Simon Monk, Sofia Enriquez, Steeven Salvat, Thiago Nevs, Tom Gerrard, Usugrow, Xavier Casalta, Yohta Matsuoka.

D*FACE’s “Death And Glory.”
Available starting May 6th, 2021 is artist D*FACE’s collaborative sculpture project with Atelier Kismet entitled, “Death and Glory.”
The sculpture represents a significant landmark in D*FACE’s career as it was the opening statement to his first solo show “Death & Glory” at StolenSpace Gallery in London in 2006.  The piece features a hidden incense burner chamber inside the ceramic model, bringing the sculpture to life as it smokes and fumes with the incense of choice.

In December of 2019 I was invited to carve this redwood #buffalo #chainsawsculpture in a beautiful gallery in #ShoreditchLondon. I carved in the window over the course of a few days for a live audience. The event was hosted by @buffalotraceuk, who offered tastings once the sculpture was complete. @chainsawcarvingdaveflemons helped with the material, @goetzbaumpflege was some extra muscle, and @stihlgb provided equipment. It all came together beautifully! I love the city of #London and connect with it more each time I visit. It was amazing to be able to share my #craft publicly in such a #badass location! Thanks everyone 🙂 (at StolenSpace) https://www.instagram.com/p/B7EikASHGr2/?igshid=hqlzv658w0kp

426m2   The Southbank Show  in Stolenspace Gallery, London, 2018.
CURATED BY AND IN SUPPORT OF LONG LIVE SOUTHBANK
ABOUT EXHIBITION Long Live Southbank are delighted to bring you ‘426㎡’, a group show featuring the creative talents from skateboarding and beyond. ‘426㎡’ will dissect and explore the ever present relationship between skateboarding and art, giving us an intimate look at it’s DIY nature.
There is little wonder why so many skateboarders make art. Both outlets serve similar purposes, they offer the access to freedom of expression and can both be solitary activities; the onus is on you to create, nobody else. ‘426㎡’ is a reflection of the community itself. The work conveys a diverse understanding of what it means to make art and how we as skateboarders don’t limit ourselves to any medium or subject matter. From Arran Gregory’s abstract use of geometry to Jon Horner’s playful characters, the art of skateboarding is as multifaceted as the culture that inspires it. ‘426㎡’ will display this diversity of creation in a two week exhibition, showcasing some of the most well respected artists and illustrators from skateboarding and beyond.
Questions people often ask skateboarders are ‘When did you start skating?’ or ‘Have you ever broken any bones?’. Skateboarders will remember these specific moments because they are important milestones . Another frequent question is ‘What was your first skateboard?’- Memories immediately flood back to your younger self, glaring at hundreds of skateboard decks with different sizes, different artwork; endless choices. It is at this point you have to decide the chosen one, objectively looking at the art on show, syphoning through each deck or ‘artwork’, until one captures your imagination. Of course other factors do come in to play, the riders on the team or have they just released a great video? However, none of that matters if the artwork isn’t up to scratch. From the beginning it is clear that art plays a pivotal role in the identity of skateboarders and it is no surprise that it has resulted in a diverse creative community. Featured artist Arran Gregory states; ‘I feel it’s the ethos behind street skateboarding which carries with it the constant need to re appropriate what’s before you and apply your own vision- that’s like a catalyst for the creative mind.’
Southbank has been the beating heart of the London skate scene since 1973 and exists as the oldest continually skated spot in the world, frequented by people from across the UK and around the globe. It is a unique space where seasoned pros rub shoulders with local skate rats; a place where creative talent can be nurtured and allowed to thrive.
The title ‘426㎡’ takes its name from lost sections of Southbank long since hidden away from its skateboarding roots. Long Live Southbank has created a unique opportunity to breath new life into this hallowed ground; all 426㎡ of it. Artists from across the world who express themselves through different mediums and who all have a relationship with skateboarding, particularly Southbank, have contributed works to help raise the funds needed to open up historic sections of Southbank once again.
All proceeds from ‘426㎡’ will go straight to the fundraising pot and ensure Southbank continues to inspire future generations of creative individuals.

4me4you features the artist Geoffrey Bouillot- ‘TOKYOVERSE’.
Artist: Geoffrey Bouillot
4me4you recently had the delightful opportunity to explore the captivating exhibition at StolenSpace Gallery, showcasing the remarkable works of Geoffrey Bouillot.
Geoffrey Bouillot, a French artist residing in Tokyo, Japan, is celebrated for his monochromatic figurative paintings distinguished by their sleek lines and contemporary flair. Drawing from a rich multicultural background, Bouillot seamlessly merges influences from Manga, Pop Art, Cubism, and Italian Futurism, crafting a distinctive style marked by a fusion of techniques and aesthetics.
His deliberate choice to exclusively employ black and white hues enables him to hone in on the essence of his subjects, capturing their forms and textures with precision and clarity. In his series "Tokyoverse," Bouillot finds inspiration in Tokyo's dynamic street-style culture, particularly the evolution of Japanese street fashion originating from the vibrant alleys of Harajuku.
Here, he adopts a streamlined, minimalist approach, juxtaposing monochromatic backgrounds with striking depictions of female figures adorned in fashion-forward attire and futuristic floral arrangements. Skilfully utilising the shapes and contours of clothing, Bouillot imbues his compositions with a sense of dimension and depth.
Immersed in the creative pulse of Tokyo, Bouillot's work beckons viewers into a world of geometric precision and monochromatic vibrancy, reminiscent of the bustling fashion districts of the city.
