Revisiting a favorite house from 2022 that finally sold. 1945 unique home in Berlin, Wisconsin SOLD for $1.2M, which isn’t bad for all of this.
If you don’t remember this house, you’re in for a treat. Look at this unusual paradise.
I’m wondering if the plants conveyed, b/c it would be a real job to start from scratch.
Actually, I would hope that it came fully furnished. Isn’t this like being on vacation every day?
This is a koi pond.
Here we have little foot bridge.
Not to be picky, but I wonder why they left this wire and hoses exposed.
The indoor pool has been drained to await the new owner.
Now, we’re headed to the house, proper.
How about these cabinets?
Check out the cool, Zen kitchen. The furniture had to come with the house, b/c it looks custom made. Look at the flower stools.
Butterfly dining room chairs.
Weird figures sitting on the family room couch.
This bd. is open to the large living area on one side. Don’t know if I like that.
This must be the main bd. and it has a balcony overlooking the large living area.
It has a whimsical en suite.
There is a total of 6 bds. and 6 baths.
Here’s a multi-functional family room.
Interesting room has a little hut with a bed on top. (They were using the hut for storage.)
There’s a shower room in here also.
17.49 acres also include a private lake.
Actually, from what we’ve seen, $1.2M isn’t bad, considering.

Paris
HonoUmi. Hard-6 "Write a fic happening outside of any canon location (no Tokyo, Numazu, Hakodate,...), with some focus on that location"
Words: ~550
Summary: Paris Syndrome. An infamous version of culture shock, most attributed to Japanese tourists in France. It's a malady capable of ruining a holiday completely, and Umi is determined not to let it get in her way.
Also on Ao3
********************************
Umi had heard of Paris Syndrome, of course. It was a well known phenomenon. A feeling of culture shock so severe that it left some tourists in hospital, causing terrifying symptoms like outright delusions as well as anxiety and vomiting.
So when they’d decided to take their honeymoon in Paris, she’d made sure to do the research ahead of time. She looked up Parisian travel advisories. She’d read up on Parsian culture. She’d taken lessons in French. And she’d made sure to explain to Honoka that things were different there, that French people considered different things rude than they did, and that tourists were easy targets for pickpockets. She’d come into the trip determined not to be disillusioned, to be armed with knowledge and understanding so that she wouldn’t be let down.
And because of that, she’d been unprepared for just how amazing it was.
Yes, the culture was different, and some people were as rude as she’d expected. Yes, the metro smelled awful, and there was a lot more trash on the streets than back home. But none the less, Umi found herself utterly bewitched. The architure, all paved stones and complicated arches. The landmarks, the Arc d’Triumph, Notre Dame, the Louvre. The busy streets, full of unusual shops and performers. And the food, strange, exotic, but unavoidably delicious. She found herself enjoying their trips to the shopping street near their hotel almost as much as the actual museums and tourist attractions they visited, every day finding something new. There was something so familiar about it, like the shopping district back home, and yet entirely different and alien.
They were only there for a week. They both had their jobs to get back to, and they couldn’t afford to stay in a nice hotel forever. Umi had drawn and redrawn the budget a thousand times, and she knew better than anyone that even one extra day would start to stretch their accounts. But after all the stress, all the planning, and all the fear of ruining their honeymoon by getting sick… Umi loved Paris, and loved their time there together.
But that wasn’t only because it was Paris. Iit wasn’t just that the city was beautiful. It wasn’t just that places they visited were amazing. It was who she was with. Honoka was by her at every turn. They held hands as they walked in the museums. They leaned against each other as they stood side by side on the train. And when they tried new food, it was together, feeding each other bites of their meal and sharing in the joy of finding something new.
Paris wasn’t a disappointment for Umi. It was better than she could have ever dreamed of, everything she’d feared and yet no less amazing for those rough patches. It was new, familiar, exciting, calming, and utterly, utterly wonderful.
And so, she reflected, as she watched France fade into the distance, Honoka snoozing against her as their plane headed back towards Japan, back to their daily life and their apartment and chores that need doing, it was the perfect place for them to have gone.
Because marriage was all of those things as well. And unlike Paris, Umi didn’t have to go home after seven days.
She could stay with Honoka forever.
