Stonerpop presents Signs of Allegiance (Score)

Stonerpop is an artist, producer, and beatmaker with a focus on instrumental hip-hop. The sound is incredibly diverse, as the musician learned valuable lessons from iconic artists as diverse as Timbaland, Massive Attack, and Portishead, among others.

Somewhere in between lo-fi aesthetics and golden-age rap punch, Stonerpop's sound feels incredibly immersive and dynamic. The artist's most recent release, "Signs of Allegiance," marks a very ambitious project. In fact, this isn't just an instrumental release. It is the score of Stonerpop's first-ever short film! The project was an ambitious step for this creator, who made something genuinely one-of-a-kind.

The story deals with a career criminal who faces the challenge of revealing his decision to retire to his partner. Following a botched final deal, their loyalty is put to the test by a true life-or-death scenario, in which they must try their best to fit outside of their usual roles. The film deals with the concepts of honor, loyalty, and affection, and music is a truly important component of the storytelling as well, with Stonerpop's soundtrack contributing to telling the story in a very special way.

This project was a major undertaking for the artist, and it definitely paid off! You can now watch the short film in its entirety via Youtube.

Stonerpop – Subroutine [Downtempo, Trip Hop] Американские музыканты Jimmie Maneuva и Maudie Michelle, участники электронного дуэта Stonerpop, лауреаты множества престижных музыкальных премий первого января 2020 года выпускают свой новый альбом "American Dreams" с экспериментами в жанрах downtempo и trip hop, и на этой неделе представили видео на его второй сингл "Subroutine".

Based in Northern Louisiana, Stonerpop is an electronic-synthpop duo, comprised of Jimmie Maneuva, from Shreveport, and Maudie Michelle, originally from Idaho. Together they craft sounds as diverse as the cultures they represent, using thought-provoking lyrics, calming voices, and quirky synth melodies. 

Their compositions interlock cleverly woven instrumentation, naturally constructed around synthesizers and keyboards, injecting guitars over heavy and firm beats. Distinguished from other electronic acts, they apply a light melodic touch and layered texture, which compellingly playoff sharper rhythms. They range from a full-on and welcomed sonic assault to trance-inducing melodies, establishing their vital force to electronic music. 

Their new "Apollo" album follows their sophomore release of "Physical Business" in November 2017 and their debut "Stonerpop EP" in 2016. Following their debut, Stonerpop came to be among five finalists nominated for Best Local Band in DeltaStyle Magazine's 2017 Best of The Delta. In 2018, their music video for the track "Headglow" earned the duo an Official Selection in the African Smartphone International Film Festival.

"Erupt" – A Gritty Independent Film by Luretta Films

September 2023 – Pharoah Dickens is an extremely diverse creator and director with a passion for telling stories that actually speak to the intricacies of the human condition. His work explores many existential questions, as well as morality, loyalty, and ambition. At what ends are we willing to get to in order to obtain what we want? “Erupt,” the artist’s most recent project, is a perfect example of his ability to combine thrilling storytelling with deeper concepts. The film tells the story of Pro (Kalvion Thomas), a small-time dealer navigating the treacherous criminal underworld with his uncle Trouble (Roytrez Williams) and cousin Travis (Marcus Tramiel) against the backdrop of Shreveport and Bossier City, Louisiana.

The location itself is critical to the movie, as it provides an authentic setting that complements the film's narrative intensity. The soundtrack, curated by Stonerpop, enhances the gritty atmosphere. In addition, the artist BLAYZE has released a music video for a track named after the film and inspired by its narrative. The song, released in tandem with the video and the movie concept announcement, is actually a great opportunity for Luretta film to launch a true multimedia experience, which makes the whole project all the more special.

Don’t miss out on the film premiere, which will take place on October 7th, 2023, at the East Bank Theatre, Bossier, Louisiana.

SONG PICK: Stonerpop - Physical Business

Maudie Michelle and Jimmie Maneuva make music in Louisiana under the name Stonerpop. They released a new EP “Physical Business” with seven tracks that are quite different from what one might associate with the band’s name. The gamut of their songs ranges 80s style dark wave to chillwave with a good deal of other musical ideas thrown in. Listen to the EP from beginning to the end or you may miss something.
