Las mujeres salen todos los días con un cartel en el pecho que dice "dispárame", "asítame", "violame", "asesiname". Este cartel ha sido creado por hombres que estigmatizan a las mujeres y las ponen en bandeja de plata para ser devoradas por una sociedad misógina. Las mujeres que viven en Honduras caminan como blancos rojos listos para que los hombres les disparen un dardo en la frente. Honduras tiene la tasa de feminicidios más alta de América Latina y una de las más altas del mundo. Aún así, en el siglo XXI, las mujeres siguen luchando por sus derechos; no por el derecho a votar oa trabajar, sino por el derecho a vivir. Al cierre de 2021 más de 240 mujeres fueron asesinadas violentamente y a principios de 2022 se han reportado más de 19 casos de feminicidio. Las mujeres salen todos los días a la calle con el temor de no volver con sus seres queridos. Pero el miedo no les impide ponerse la armadura y salir a protestar contra la injusticia de género con la esperanza de un cambio, de una mejor sociedad para sus hijas. Mientras la desigualdad de género y la violencia de género aún prevalecen en Honduras, las mujeres están alzando la voz para ser escuchadas y asumir el poder. A pesar de las adversidades, una mujer ahora gobierna y está rompiendo con todas las etiquetas y prejuicios.

En diciembre de 2021, Xiomara Castro se convirtió en la primera mujer presidenta de Honduras. Esto le dio esperanza al país en su conjunto, pero para las mujeres la expectativa era mayor ya que ahora hay alguien como ellas por quien luchar y con ellas. Este Día Internacional de la Mujer, actuemos, reflexionemos y respetemos a las mujeres. Celebremos la feminidad y el logro de aquellas que a pesar de los prejuicios han luchado hasta el final y siguen luchando para romper toda injusticia, estereotipo y prejuicio en su contra. Ser mujer no es ser vista como un objeto para sexualizar, usar y tirar por nuestro mal, nuestra “forma de vestir”, por nuestra apariencia. Ser mujer significa que somos dadoras de vida, somos las que soportamos el dolor sin miedo, nos arriesgamos, somos amables y gentiles, somos valientes, somos luchadoras por la justicia y la igualdad. Las mujeres dan amor, dan esperanza, las mujeres crean nuevas formas de esforzarse y triunfar; hacemos historia. Las mujeres son dignas de respeto, somos dignas de seguridad y dignas de igualdad. Pero lo más importante, somos dignos de la vida. De Rosa Parks, Emmeline Pankhurst, Madre Teresa, Xiomara Castro, los millones de mujeres asesinadas en todo el mundo, y para ti y para mí, IWD fue creado por y para nosotros. #stopkillingourwomen #BreakTheBias
