My attempts to write dialogue have long been very rough and rushed and over the top in exposition but I think 2020 me had the right idea in making Casey say "You need to fuck the fuck off" I think he should still say that at some point it's very in character for any version of him.

Matilda: Are you almost done?
Courtney: Uh-huh! Is he getting restless?
Matilda: Erm…
Courtney: Oscar’s outside if you wanna find him.
Matilda: Sure.
Courtney: And tell him he’s not supposed to be smoking!
…
Matilda: You’re not supposed to be smoking.
Oscar: I was just pretending-.. to look cool, y’know?
Matilda: [snorts] You’ll fuck yourself up, like nanna did.
Oscar: Your nan was pretty cool though.
Matilda: Yeah…
Oscar: Thanks for doing this, by the way. I know it’s kinda short notice.
Matilda: Isn’t it usually the woman who does all this wedding planning bullshit?
Oscar: Sexist much? She couldn’t plan a piss up in a brewery anyway-.. and she deserves it, and she loves surprises. So, yeah.. all she’s gotta do, is turn up in whatever pretty outfit you’ve cooked up together n’ have a good time.
Matilda: I wish it could’ve been us, sometimes.
Oscar: What?
Matilda: It would’ve been so much easier if we’d had.. chemistry, or whatever.
Oscar: We don’t though, do we?
Matilda: Fucking-.. obviously! God, you’re so vain; what did you think this was, a confession? You may as well be my brother.
Oscar: The fuck else am I gonna think when you say shit like that?
Matilda: We grew up together, we understand each other-.. we’ve even slept together. Why didn’t it feel right? Why is it so hard to find someone I have an actual connection with? Like we do, but.. romantically. You two you make it look so simple.
Oscar: I don’t know.. I guess fate had other plans, if you believe in that sorta stuff.
[Robin whimpers upon seeing Courtney, immediately reaching for her]
Oscar: He’s hungry.
Courtney: Clearly! What’s up?
Oscar: Tilda’s super jelly-.. she’s finally interested in what’s between a guy’s eyes as well as his legs.
Matilda: [laughs] Fuck off.
Courtney: Awh, you’ll find someone special sooner or later.
Oscar: And when you do, you’ll understand how simple it can be.
Matilda: [scoffs] With me? Doubt it.
Courtney: Bah! You’re impossible to console.
Oscar: Triss needs a lift, by the way.
Courtney: Now? We could-…
Oscar: Nope! The boy is hungry n’ I’ve got shit to do; Tilda can do it.
Matilda: I wish you’d stop tryna force-…
Oscar: [whispers] He has a girlfriend numbnuts-.. pleeeeease just take him? I’m running out of cars.
Matilda: Okay, okay! Get off me already.

Last time I went through withdrawal I ended up in the hospital. I can't do it again. I've basically been forced to semi withdrawal every two weeks bc of how the refills are spaced. My legs get so restless I can't sleep. My brain is fuzzy and I can't think. After a couple days the vomiting and headaches start. I'm terrified. I need to work, how can I do that while being forced to go through hell. Yeah maybe I shouldn't be on constant opioids at 26, but can we at least get me off them safely? Can we pursue alternate methods? You're taking away my scuba gear and refusing to help me get back up to the surface. She told me this in one sentence: "I am referring you to the clinical pharmacy for dose optimization and tapering". The pharmacist didn't know anything about that referral. She gave me basic advice that will only work if my doctor agrees to give me more than 10 days to taper. Everyone in the reddit post I made is telling me to save my meds cause I am not getting more. Fuck she didn't even mention referring me to pain management like she's supposed to.

So today was my first day teaching an after school elective theater class (10+ 2nd 3rd 4th grade girls) and holy shit y'all I have even more respect for teachers now than ever before because that was BRUTAL lmao it was like they could smell my fear and knew they could trample all over me. Maybe my viewpoint is skewed, seeing as I was a really meek, easygoing kid at that age, but I can't fathom just...blatantly ignoring the teacher when they tell you not to do something. I get theater is a bit more loosey goosey but damn I can't imagine treating any of my past theater teachers (or any adult for that matter) with such disregard. Hoping that they were just crazy because it was their first day back at school after summer break and they'll mellow out a tiny bit by next week.
There were two super sweet and responsible 4th graders that I'm probably going to have to lean on to get through to some of their classmates. Like appoint them "team leaders" or whatever.
Either way, no more Ms. Pushover next Wednesday--Miss Helen is gonna lay down the fucking LAW lol I'm going to print out a set of class rules and expectations and have the kids repeat them back to me, and I may invest in a fucking whistle to cut through how loud they can get. If any of y'all have a background in teaching or otherwise dealing with large groups of children, feel free to drop any tips or suggestions you might have to get a handle on a rowdy crowd of munchkins and gremlins without yelling or being overly strict.

Finan's backstory in the series (my theory)
I've been working on this theory for a while, and I've finally written it down in full!
Well, we know that in the books Finan was born into nobility as crown prince of the Ulaid kingdom. A marriage between him and the princess of the Ui'Neill was arranged, but Finan fell in love with his younger brother Conall's wife, a simple dairy maid. They fled south to hide. But the Ui'Neill along with Conall pursued them, the girl was killed in front of Finan, he was stripped of his title and wealth and eventually sold into slavery to Sverri.
But I have some reason to believe that Finan's backstory in the show may be different. There are only three little facts we know about his past, according to the brief comments he made in the third and fourth seasons.
Finan's father died before he was taken into slavery, and Finan was apparently physically abused by him (at least as a child).
Finan's mother seemed to be a wise woman, and apparently also died before the events on the slave ship.
Finan saw members of his family in Ireland die from the same sickness seen in season four.
I took some of this information from an interview with Mark, where he says that this background was given to him by the director. So this could mean that those "men as strong as bears" he was talking about were members of his family... maybe that's how his father died?
These facts lead me to believe that Finan did not belong to a noble family, but to a family of warriors in the service of a King or a Lord. So they would have been more exposed to the horrors of disease.
I also think Finan's reaction to Uhtred's ascension to the throne of Mercia is indicative of this, as he was very happy and proud to present himself and the rest of the boys as royal advisors, as if he had never had such a status before.
Finally, the official fact sheet of the series introduces Finan as "a former warrior of Ireland". Other characters such as Steapa are also introduced as "warriors" without giving them any other title.
In addition to all this, Mark has mentioned in some interviews that although he had hoped that Finan's past would be mentioned in the series as in the books, the director not only had no plans for this but did not even confirm that the two pasts are the same.
After this analysis, I come to the conclusion that Finan definitely did not belong to a noble family but was a warrior in the service of one.
Now, how did he end up on the slave ship? I guess we will never know, but I theorise that after the kingdom of Ireland to which Finan belonged was stricken by disease, it plunged into a socio-economic crisis, for medieval Ireland was not known for its resources, it was considered a poor land unlike England. So perhaps the ruler decided to sell some of his warriors as slaves in exchange for goods, remembering that Sverri's ship was a merchant ship. Perhaps this idea could explain why Finan tried to excuse Halig's mental breakdown to Sverri by saying it was the fever.
This wouldn't be the first time that the show has made a change of origin to its characters, for example, although not very significant, in the books Aelfwynn is Aethelred's daughter and not Erik's, Aethelred is Uhtred's cousin on his mother's side, among others. Not to mention the radical changes in the personalities of some other characters such as Aldhelm.
I may have theorised too much and filled in all the missing gaps with my assumptions, but with the little data we have this is the conclusion I came to after some time of thinking...
I would love to hear your opinion on this theory and I don't know, perhaps come to a new conclusion✨️

I keep saying all my story ideas are about isolation but that's not really true. Restless is about losing large chunks of your life you can never get back.

@alittlebitofmuse ¦ continued from here
Gale hesitated, feeling as though he had expended a vast amount of his courage just to ask the initial question. He wasn't even sure why he had chosen Halsin, or why he had dared to broach the topic of his own worries. Perhaps it was best to blame sleep deprivation for the intrusion. Yet, Halsin was as receptive as ever. With that thought, Gale realized why he had chosen the archdruid to confide in, at least partially.
"I understand you're not well-versed in the ways of sleep, well, not as we humans are, but given your vast life experience, I was hoping you might have some solutions for sleepless nights. Perhaps a potion, meditation, or some other practice? My last few nights have been rather... restless, and I'm concerned that my fatigue could lead to mistakes that might harm our team."
