It has been a while since the last entry. I think I must write down my thought here.

最後の日記からしばらくが経つ。 久しぶりだけれど、今日のことは書き留めておかないといけない気がする。

"We can change the world by the design approach." I declared to many fellows at the beginning of the course. Today, something took me into the fog and barely lost my way.

「デザインは世界を変えられる。」 僕はコースの初日にたくさんのクラスメートの前で宣言した。 今日、その信念が揺らいだ出来事が起きた。

I have been working for a homeless project in London for almost a year now. Today, I was at Charing Cross to see a lady who I had a chatting on the street the day before. She insisted "Being on the street is not a life. I saw many of them died." Homeless people live on the edge. Drug addiction, abuse, and violence, etc...

僕は一年近くに渡って、ホームレスのプロジェクトに取り組んでいる。 今日、僕は昨日の夜中に出会ったホームレスの女性に会いにCharing Crossの路上にいた。彼女は僕に「路上生活は生活と呼べない。多くの仲間が死んでいくのを見た。」と言った。ホームレスの彼らは毎日をギリギリのところで生きている。クスリや虐待、そして暴力。

I immediately noticed that a homeless guy seemed to receive something from a neighbour that I could not recognise what it was due to the distance from opposite side of the street. When I returned to the place after hanging around the area, the guy collapsed on the pavement and had a bad seizure. He was freaking out and throwing up. Eventually, he lost his conscious. Until Ambulance came there, I faced to the reality and depression of the street.

向かいの路上にいるホームレスの男が、何かを受け取っているのを僕はすぐに気がついた。それが何かは定かではない。 しばらくその辺りを歩きまわって戻ってきた頃には、その男は路上に崩れ落ちていた。彼はひどく痙攣して、奇声をあげて吐き散らしていた。そしてそのまま意識を失った。救急がくるまでの間、僕は彼の側で路上のリアルに寄り添っていた。

It made me considering the role of a designer. "Designer" could not solve the problem. Then, what have we got to do?

デザイナーの役目ってなんなんだろう。 デザイナーはきっと問題を解決できない。 じゃあ何をすべきなんだ・・・？

I have picked up the voices of homeless people behind this life cycle for my project. Even one or two stories would represent the street life. The man could be me, or could be you or your family. The boundary is a blur.

僕はこのリアルの中にある彼らの声を集めている。 例えそれが一つでも、二つでも、その背後にいる大勢の彼らの声を代弁していることになる。あの男はもしかしたら僕だったかもしれない。あなたか、もしくはあなたの両親だったかもしれない。その境界線なんてすごく曖昧だ。

I determined to deliver the "real" even though I will be desperate again.

この先もその「リアル」を伝え続けようと強く思った。

Malborough, Devon. Jan 2020. As storm Brendon rolls over us I am staying warm and dry inside, hope you are too. Inspiration has been hard to find so far this year, I thought I would wake up im 2020 with renewed direction and drive... but I have never been great at this time of year. I love sunshine and warmth and at the moment that is pretty hard to find. But it's funny how inspiration arrives, the morning before I took this series of shots I got really excited when I saw there was a foggy/ misty night ahead... suddenly from greyness came sparks of creativity.
