First post of 2019. On Friday I took myself out on a hot date and went to the Royal Academy to check out their exhibit of Klimt and Schiele drawings from the Albertina Museum in Vienna. The complete mastery each of them had over line and contour is profound. These portraits are three of Schiele’s. Limited myself to 5 minutes for each study, then added the lettering, tone and red later on the train and then at home. Good to continually fill the inspiration battery like this. And I’m lucky as the RA is a ten minute walk from work. Day 39/100 #the100dayproject Today in my pursuit of playing with different art/writing styles to find my own I did some #masterstudies of other #picturebookauthors and #picturebookillustrators I studied each story noting the problems, inciting incidents, ways they escalated the story and resolutions and then made a #sketch from each book to add to my notes not only to try their styles, but also, I remember more from seeing a picture than From just reading my notes. I learned a lot from each and this is just a sampling from the stack I went through. Now to take these back and get a whole new stack to study. A study I did a while back of one of my favorite artists. John white Alexander. I love his colours and brush strokes. I did this study when I did the art camp with @noahbradley a few years ago. I did quite a few commissions to save up money to get on that course and I always tell everyone to give it a go if they’re after some improvements. Day 855. Study. Recently I visited the @mauritshuis_museum. One painting in their breathtaking collection is ‘Lachende jongen’ by Frans Hals. I always feel joy when I see this portrait and it inspired me to make a study of the painting.
