Happy Birthday to Claude Monet who was born on this day in 1840. This portrait was painted by Monet’s longtime friend and artist, Pierre Auguste Renoir. They met in the studio of Professor Charles Gleyre at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris in 1862, and they quickly formed a long-lasting friendship. Monet and Renoir also painted together in the summer of 1869 at a small outdoor café and bathing establishment in the Seine River near Bougival called La Grenouillère (“the Frog Pond”). This week is also World Kindness Week. A good reminder to call or text your friend with some kind words, or perhaps, paint a portrait of your friend.

Master Copy of Claud Monet’s “Impression, Sunrise” or “La Soleil Levant” (1872). The very painting that sparked the impressionist movement, showing the revitalization of France after the Franco-Prussian War.

#Repost @paintings_i_love № 3134 Claude Monet (French, 1840 – 1926) Bouquet de glaïeuls, lis et marguerites dated 1878 Oil on canvas Private collection • Painted in 1878, Monet’s bouquet of gladioli, lilies and daisies beautifully demonstrates the artist’s ability to evoke the lavishness and vitality of flowers, rendering them with extraordinary freshness and spontaneity. Rather than relying on the trompe l’oeil technique often associated with the still-life genre, Monet drew upon his own creative ingenuity and his interpretation of the display before his easel, applying the newfound Impressionist technique to an indoor subject. In the present composition, Monet applied his exuberant palette not only to the flowers, but also to the vase and the table top which reflects the various colors of the bouquet—an effect which is visual suggestive of of the artist’s own palette. The vase itself appears to be decorated with a floral motif, and Monet’s subtle touches of the white pigment beautifully convey the shine of the porcelain. Having temporarily abandoned the still-life motif during his years at Argenteuil earlier in the decade, Monet embraced this subject again in Vétheuil, where he lived from the summer of 1878 until the end of 1881. Delighted by the rich vegetation that surrounded him, Monet often set up his easel in his own garden, painting its lavish trees, bushes and pots of flowers… • • • • • • • #Monet #ClaudeMonet #FrenchArt #FrenchArtist #Masterpiece #artforeveryone #art #fineartpainting #paintingoftheday #peinture #landscape #historiadelarte #storiadellarte #peintures #historyofart #arthistory #19thcenturyart #oldmasters #impressionism #impressionismo #europeanart #impressionisme #20thcenturyart https://www.instagram.com/p/Cowd_UqInT6/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
