This fic has everything I love in a story (cannibalism as a form of devotion, religious imagery!) and it’s so surprisingly tender despite the horrors the characters go through.

Cyclic by SuperBlondie (baeksoo, E, horror, emotional manipulation)

I’m obsessed with the way this author writes horror. The atmosphere is so tense and urgent and you can really feel Baekhyun’s fear in this. And Kyungsoo..he’s absolutely terrifying.

came the last night by unniebee (Chanyeol-centric, M, gothic horror, haunted house)

Beautifully dark and sad gothic horror about a man restoring a mansion and the ghosts that haunt it. A fandom classic. Many people recommended me this fic and I was hesitant because of the pairing but it’s a chanyeol centric fic for most of the story and it’s so worth reading it.

without any noise by taonsils (mirokkuma) (chansoo, T, time loops, character study)

Reading this fic was so cathartic and healing in ways I can’t begin to describe. Chanyeol’s struggles feel so real but the heavy subjects are handled with so much care. It’s a beautiful story and I hold it very close to my heart.

metamorphosis by sophluorescence (sophluorescent) (baekxing, E, cult of celebrity, body horror)

Baekxing are so deliciously messed up in this fic; so determined to destroy each other (and themselves) if that means that would make the audience love them even more

The Me In You by Nyxessa (Jongdae-centric, G, Obsession AU)

Such a great obsession fic explaining the mv. It’s so hazy and tense and unsettling that it’s going to make you feel like you’re there with the exos.

0K by zoke (Jongdae-centric, M, serial killers)

Murder! So much murder and things that aren’t supposed to happen and jongdae being his best unhinged self. I love it.

in the d(r)ead of night by silvercompass (Kyungsoo-centric, G, Lucky One inspired)

A story that follows exo after they escape the labs in lucky one. Was it really that easy? I seriously love this one, it kept me on the edge of my sit from beginning to end.

(Not) Quite The Same by the_casual_cheesecake (subaek, E, canon compliant)

Let me scream about this fic characterization because it’s SO GOOD!! The author…they know, they understand them! Also, this story is the reason I love canon compliant fics now wow

"Hey." He watches Joonmyun stand and add the new ball of yarn to the pile on the table. It's the last one, a labor of love and boredom worked out over many hours. "Pay me, jerk. I may work for cheap, but I'm not free."

Joonmyun laughs and bends over to kiss him. "Thank you for your help."

"Aren't there machines or something that would wind yarn faster?"

"Sort of, but I don't mind doing it by hand. It's not hard." It's not, but it is boring.

"But it's boring." His boyfriend just smiles. He's heard it all before and will hear it all again. Knitting is nothing like chasing down a soccer ball or throwing opponents to the mat. It's stationary work that requires consciousness. The times he's found himself mindlessly automatic, he dropped stitches and added others and had to redo it all.

It's pretty much the exact opposite of anything Baekhyun would ever think or want to do. He's the restless sort.

Baekhyun has sat up and is trying to juggle three balls of yarn, but he keeps his hands too close together and drops them. "Could you teach me?"

Joonmyun blinks stupidly. "To juggle?" He may be a man of many talents, but juggling is not one of them.

"No!" Baekhyun throws a ball at him. "To knit."

The Nikeulom-neu is one of those places within the takaengdom that stands residual of an ancient time, long before the streets surrounding it converted to brick and adobe houses from the pit-houses lining the roads in the past. It is a pagoda, built of lime-stone (as is the traditional way), which sits atop the tallest peak within Opalayeon’s walls where it can catch the most direct beam from the sun-on-high (a time which sets it alight in shining, white-fired glory).

Opposite the temple, beyond the sheer salt-white cliffs and across the bay colored in swathes of jade and wine, is what the people call Noyalapo, or the Wall of Water. It is a crashing of the exterior sea with the interior bay, a great impenatrable wall of water which stretches into the clouds—at which point it turns to froth and foam and eventually becomes a cloud itself, floating in the atmosphere up above.

According to the legends, there will come a day the Noyalapo is brought down—and the outside can merge with the inside. The people of Opalayeon teach their children, who in turn teach their children, that upon this coming they are to greet the newcomers with open arms and gentle hearts; as the legend has it, the people who dismiss the Noyalapo are a sister-people—brethren in experience, perhaps even those who had once called the land of Opalayeon home.

Junmyeon wakes on the first of Tajen with breath misting in front of his open lips and the dew of the morning frosting his eyelashes. The winter has crept through the sliding doors between his bedchambers and the cliff-side walking bridge. 

He hasn’t a guard to dismiss—not like the places outside of the bay’s serene niche, where there are assassins at every step and poisons notched delicately between the threads of sheets—nor does he have a servant to call to his aide. Perhaps, where he to call out (in a sleep-laden voice, tinged with a whine), someone passing through the palace’s walls might heed his command. Perhaps. As it is, he chooses to instead sit up, smacking his lips as he does so (hating the dreadful feeling of dry flesh meeting dry flesh).

It takes a moment.

Another. 

Then, he notices the singing of the bells.

After, he notices the absence of salt-brine on the breeze.

And this can only mean one thing: the Noyalapo has fallen.
