"I have no idea. I suspect it was either being chased or the little guy thought the distance from the branch to the ground was shorter before he climbed up." Andreas replies, looking over to the other, giving a crooked grin, and doing a little shrug. "Nah. I should be able to boost myself with my very strong muscles." He pauses for a second before laughing, "I'm joking, by the way. I've just climbed a lot of trees." He makes his way over to the tree, looking up to the kitten. The kitten was focused on the chicken wrap the other had in their hands, watching whenever it would move.
"It must cat kryptonite. Look at that little guy! He's laser focused on your wrap." Andreas says, looking over to the other. "I feel bad taking your food, man. It looks really good too." He lets out a sigh, "it's like I always say...everyone likes pickles, until you're in one." Actually, he never said that, he was pretty sure he heard it in a move or show somewhere. "Also, I'm second guessing the climbing part of my plan. Should we maybe entice the little guy to jump into our arms and just stand underneath it? I could stand like behind you with arms open or something. Don't cats land on their legs all the time anyway? I don't know. I'm no cat expert. I've never had one before, and I've always leaned more towards sugar gliders and dogs. What do you think?"
Tumblr media
Sudesh always likes being on the move and eating lunch was no exception, it was common to find him walking through the park with a wrap in one hand and his phone in the other. Normally he'd take in his surroundings but an arcade machine he was restoring was giving him something to riddle over — was a busted Bubble Bobble machine that had been in storage for years worth it? No doubt. But he couldn't find why the thing wouldn't work after hours of troubleshooting.
Looking up, then around, Sudesh soon realises it's him that's being spoken to and lifts his head in acknowledgement. "What's up?" Although he soon finds out. Standing at the bottom of the tree looking up, he can't help but think this is why he's not a cat person. Or a dog person. But a third, most people think is worse, a reptile person. "How the fuck did it get up there in the first place?" Sudesh voices his thoughts, turning to the person. "Sounds like a plan. Want a boost or something?" He then gestures to the wrap. "Maybe take some chicken with you for good measure? Isn't it like cat kryptonite? I don't know."

I found him screaming in the wind, laughing like a maniac, with his running shoes tattered and his hair drenched and draped over his face.
My tea stall only had the usual customer at this time of the night, and we both turned to look at this banshee of a teenager running along the road. We turned the other way when he passed us by, leaving a trail of muddy splashes behind him.
"What a madman!" Sudesh said, laughing over his steaming glass of tea.
"I hope he doesn't get hurt," I craned my neck, hoping to still see the boy.
The rain battered the tarp over my stall, and cars and lorries sped past the highway, their blinding headlights lighting us up. It was hard to make out a screaming, laughing teenage boy in this downpour.
"We're lucky to be in a tea stall," Sudesh laughed. "If I was somewhere in the dark, alone, I'd be afraid all my past sins have caught up with me. Give me that pack of biscuits."
I pulled down a tan packet of Parle-G biscuits from the wooden plank that served as a shelf and handed it over to Sudesh. As he tore it open and allowed the biscuits inside to fall out like dominoes on the plastic stool, I took a seat in front of him.
Sudesh hummed in surprise. "The tea stall man is the customer tonight? To what do I owe the pleasure?"
I grinned and took one of the biscuits. "I can't resist the magic of those glucose biscuits. And I know you're one patron who won't say no to my filching a few off of you."
Sudesh would have laughed, but he turned his attention instead to the boy, who approached the stall, hunched, drenched, and red-eyed.
"Look who's here. The howling ghost of Mirdanpur himself."
I got off my seat with three more biscuits and retreated to behind the counter. The boy looked unsure of what to do at a tea stall in his state, so I tossed the counter rag at him. He looked at it confusingly, until I suggested he use it as a towel.
Sudesh swore at the glass of tea that took away the Parle-G biscuit he had been dipping in it. Now it was mush at the bottom of the glass, unseen until the tea would be drained.
The boy mimed a glass of tea himself. "How much?" he asked hoarsely.
"On the house, mate," I answered, "If you'll tell us why you were running and laughing like a madman along the highway at 1 am."
I heated up the kettle of tea and motioned toward the empty plastic chair. Sudesh pushed the packet of biscuits to the other side of the stool, but the boy politely refused.
"Go on, it's on me," Sudesh laughed.
"I don't like those biscuits," the boy answered sheepishly and sat on the chair. He tapped his leg violently like a drummer, and looked up at the tarp.
"I don't know if I can explain what I was doing," he said, and yawned. His lean, long face made the yawn seem cavernous, like a cat's.
I put a glass of tea on the stool - right at the edge of it, really - and leaned against the counter. "Teenagers do a lot of things that can't be explained."
The boy picked up the glass with two fingers along the rim, and blew onto the surface to cool it down. "I'll try."
Sudesh exchanged glances with me and leaned back in his chair.
"I'm in a server full of people who don't like to be alive. We call ourselves the Prisoners of Consciousness. We've been together for years now, and we've been miserable for so long, miserable at this existence, at this world, at everything. Including ourselves. Especially ourselves. And now… the admin is going to shut it down, because… well, never mind the because."
"Well, fuck," Sudesh leaned forward. "This sounds like a police matter."
The boy laughed weakly. "The admin lives in Finland, so good luck with that."
"Kids these days," I groaned.
"Anyway, so he suggested we do something to mark the end of the server. Something we'll remember all our lives. I didn't think much of it at first, but then, I was running in the dark, in the thunderstorm, along the highway, at midnight."
"Hard to forget madness like that," I said.
"Exactly. But do you understand the keyword? It's something I'll remember the rest of my life. And I want to remember it for the rest of my life. I want to live a long life so I can remember that moment for as long as possible. Does that make any sense?"
"No," Sudesh said.
"Yes," I said at the same time. "I don't understand what your situation is, or what this whole business was with your prisoners and servers, but I understand wanting to carry a memory for a long, long time."
The boy smiled now. It was an honest smile. He put the glass to his lips and tears blotted his eyes, perhaps from how hot the tea was.
"Now, thanks to you, I'll remember this moment for a long time too," I said. "So while your memory is your own, it has also touched my little stash of memories. Now I have something to remember for the rest of my life."
The rain was lighter now, and Sudesh got up from his seat, stretching himself as much as he could with the low ceiling of the tarp.
"I'm off. If I take too long, wife's going to think I've taken up drinking again."
He opened his umbrella and stepped out of the stall.
"Kid, listen. Try the biscuit with the tea. It's really good that way - just be careful not to hold it in the tea too long, or it'll fall in."
The boy nodded, and picked up one of the biscuits from the stool.

"Oh yeah? Are we on nickname level now?" He teased, playfully nudging him, "Well, now I'm curious, what would my nickname in your phone be? Mr. National Geographic?" Aki jokes, chuckling a bit.
Tumblr media
The sun was halfway set, casting a color of fiery orange amongst the clouds. This was his favorite part, when the night met the day. It almost felt like they were in another dimension in this moment, one filled of more color and peace. He glances over in Sudesh's direction for a second, and he couldn't deny how beautiful he looked with the colors of the sunset bouncing off his skin. He thought about inching his hand closer, for a second, and telling Sudesh what he was thinking. Instead, Akiak returns his gaze forward, he tells himself that would probably be a bad idea.
He chuckles, hearing Sudesh call himself persuadable, and he can't help but agree, "I mean, I did get you to come out on this nature hike with me. I'm still pretty shocked, if I'm honest." He feigns a look of offense at Sudesh's next comment, bringing the hand that was on the bench up to hold up one finger, "I beg your," he reaches over to gently poke him, "pardon? Of course I'm going to pay. I was the one who dragged you out here, right? You know, forcing you to brace the bugs." As if on cue, the buzzing of the nighttime critters can be heard. His gaze travels up to sky, "I hadn't noticed the sunset had finished."
In his defense, it was easy to forget about things when he spoke to Sudesh. He looks back down to meet Sudesh's gaze when he hears the compliment, his lips slightly parted, leaving him momentarily speechless. Aki could not remember the last time someone had shown him that kind of kindness, let alone compliment his smile, and he wasn't sure how to receive it. "You're far too kind, Sudesh. Are you sure the altitude isn't messing with your head?" He jokes, softly smiling. "For the record, I find your smile to be quite cute too." His hand reaches over, giving Sudesh's hand a gentle reassuring squeeze. After a second, he brings his hand back to rest on the bench, "You can let me know if you want to head back, by the way, I wouldn't blame you. The darker it gets, the chillier it'll be. I wouldn't want you to think I am trying to recreate The Blair Witch Project."
"Mr. Impatient? You should change my name on your phone." Sudesh repeats with amusement. It's not the first time he's been called that, and he knows it will not be the last, but the joking nature in which Aki said it was a change.
Tumblr media
While the nature on the way up was notable it didn't hit Sudesh until he took a few minutes to let himself relax and simply observe, the beautiful colours of the near sunset making him realise he can't remember the last he saw one. While he preferred adrenaline coursing through his veins he was starting to see why people liked this sort of thing. Maybe. But as quick as he considered, the thought soon changed as he places his hand down on the bench and feels the warmth of Aki's nearby.
"Pretty much. What can I say? I'm an easily persuadable guy," he says with a grin knowing it's the furthest thing from the truth. In reality, he's stubborn even when he knows something is good for him. "I never said I'm letting you pay before you start getting ideas," Sudesh is quick to point out. For a second he contemplates nudging his hand closer, but he's never been confident with touch unless it's violence. "To be honest, I don't mind what we're doing and you're—" words weren't his strong suit either, "—you're too cute when you smile like that to be in my bad books."

so i'm watching this indian variety show called laughter chef, very trashy, very indian, just a bunch of renown indian tv celebs trying to cook except they're all TERRIBLE at it and end up making shitty stuff that a professional chef has to eat and evaluate. i'll be doing some occasional commentary since a) i'm not really watching anything else b) it's quite fun and one of the nicest things itv has done in the last 10 years maybe ?? although it has certain questionable elements which ... well it's ok, you can't expect an itv product to be non-questionable.
i'll start by saying that arjun bijlani needs to take his foot off my neck because those outfits are going to be the end of me !! this week's blue suit and the pathaan fit were so immaculate TT also are you telling me he's hot, short AND can cook ?? that's the perfect man your honour. also that man could flirt with a rock if given a chance, i LOVE THIS TYPE OF MENNN OMG
not really rooting for any couple, but i like some individuals like arjun, reem and ankita (ah !! scandal alert, i know she's not well-liked due to big boss but i haven't watched it, i don't care about the general opinion on her. she's fun, she's quirky, she'll yell at everyone and anyone and tolerates a man-child of a husband. enough elements for me to like her). also rahul is kinda cute, they should let my boy speak sometime TT
the nia-sudesh segments need to be either cut out or drastically reduced, they're both unbearable and the edits are terrible
episode 13 had kashmira breaking down due to krishna, honestly their couple dynamics are so emblematic of what it means to be in an indian marriage. krishna does nothing at all, nor he knows the basics of cooking or just ANYTHING in general, but since he's more successful than her (or at least that's what he thinks), he gets the free pass to portray kashmira as a dumb woman who can't even distinguish masale (spoiler alert, he doesn't know either). she gets all sorts of names, while also being the only one that's actually cooking or at least trying to do so. she puts in all the efforts and ultimately her husband downplays that as well because the outcomes aren't very good. girl you should run if you ask me.
