General Kirigan closed his fingers around hers, running his thumb along the back of her hand. She shifted her neck, twisting around to meet his dark cool gaze. “Until now.”

“I will see you later?” he croaked, calling after you like a needy little boy afraid of sleeping in the dark.

Fairy Tale Prologue - poly! Kanej x fem! reader

A/n: So this is set after crooked kingdom and rule of wolves I hope you all like it! Btw I know it's short and doesn't really explain that much but more will be revealed in chapter 1!

Summary: Inej Ghafa had heard stories of people who weren't quite human, she always thought they were stories. But now with Kaz's life on the line, she might just have to give in to the fairytales.

Fairy Tale Masterlist

The waves crashed upon the rocks hard enough to draw blood.

Fog crowded anywhere you could go and it was so thick you could cut it with a knife. But if you thought that the sky would have emerged in the darkness you would be wrong. The sky was red, blood red. It didn't ombre it didn't shift it stayed its crimson colour. Never changing.

There was seemingly no night or day here as the sun never touched its red heavens nor moon, and as it was said before the sky was never rapped in darkness. The red of the sky reflecting onto the water making it look like a sea of blood. No sailor or pirate could escape how much scarlet there was.

Even with all of this though there were still stars in the sky. Yet these stars still were clouded in insanity as they were all black twinkling lights in the ether.

All that treaded through these waters had gone mad and drowned themselves in the damned waters. No, pirate or sailor ever dared come down and brave the waves of the Devil's gate. If they did they would all meet the same fate; Death.

But Inej Ghafa was not a sailor nor a pirate she was a liberator. She was the captain of her crew shouting out orders while also participating in even the smallest tasks from cleaning to saving multiple people's lives. Although she's a hero among a good amount of people, she was not with all. She killed her victims punishing them for their crimes. That was why she was allowed to cross the devil's waters.

But she could only do so alone.

So Inej Ghafa did. She took her boat the Wraith and sailed it all the way to rocky shore that held a tiny cove. She was on a mission, and she couldn't give up now. She had to do this for Kaz, he needed this.

Or he might not survive the next months.

Carefully she climbed into the cove and she remembered to leave all her weapons on her ship. Inej remembered the legends her parents had told her for bedtime stories and her younger self might have scoffed at the idea of following a legend. Though as she looked back she was never as desperate as she was now.

But everything else had turned out true this just needed to be the last step.

Slowly as she walked in a beautiful woman beyond words was sitting on a rock, came into view. Her y/c/h hair simmered and her bodice was absolutely stunning. Inej thought she had never seen something more beautiful in her life.

As she came closer the girl's eyes started to open and when they finally did open fully their eyes meant and Inej's knees felt weak. And there was only one other person who had ever made her feel that way.

"I need your help."

The girl smirked and suddenly any innocence Inej could see in the woman had disappeared. Her look was one of trouble but also one of royalty, she was not someone to be messed with and Inej thought that perhaps she was a real saint because that look held so much-

"And what would that be?"
