It was your first time taking a vacation together.

With the type of hectic schedule Dongmin had to maintain, you barely managed to book the hotel of your dreams for this weekend, which was actually your one-year anniversary. Two days was all you had, and you planned to enjoy them to the fullest, start to finish.

‘Please, just… change the subject, noona.’

‘This is great, we can just drop everything and head out to the beach! I’m living for this weather,’ you said, clapping your hands in excitement.

Dongmin nodded in agreement.

As expected, the hotel was splendorous. You noticed that while your boyfriend was checking you in. Taking those few minutes to look around, you found yourself ogling the crystal-clear glass constructions that separated the lobby and the waiting area. The outer wall was also steel and glass, so you could enjoy the beautiful landscapes of Jeju even from there.

‘Let’s go,’ a low voice called, and you followed the tall figure to the elevator.

‘I think it’s here,’ he guided you to the door and used the card to open it. ‘After you.’

The outdoors had never really been Annie’s friend. Beneath the bright colours on her skin was a genetic pasty whiteness that was only enhanced by her tendency to stay inside. When she was younger it was to hide from sunburn, as she became a teenager it was to hide from the comparisons to the girls with their natural (or not-so) tans and by the time she was living with Sean it was to hide the bruises.

Getting her into a bathing suit where others might see her was still an effort, years of body dysmorphia on top of everything else having eaten away at any and all of her confidence, but Minnesota was pretty good at breaking down her reservations.

Annie had lathered on the sunscreen before stepping foot out of the house—for the sake of her skin, but more importantly for the sake of her tattoos—knowing that she’d spend a lot of time on the dock watching Brock. Her sketchbook filled up while she was in Minnesota, a nice little souvenir to take back to Vancouver and a way to invigorate her portfolio for when people came into the shop with their only idea being that they want a tattoo that day.

Brock was zipping around the lake on a Sea-Doo, his voice intermittently cutting through the wind as he tried to talk to her across the water even though she couldn’t hear a whole sentence leaving his mouth—especially not when Coolie was barking beside her. She pulled faces at him, trying to get across that he was talking to himself but if she couldn’t hear him then there was little chance he could accurately see her expression.

Brock shouted out to her, and all Annie could shout back was a very sarcastic, “Yeah, baby, you look so good!” which he responded to with a loud, enthusiastic yell because he hadn’t heard her at all.

Midday rolled around and Annie stood up, stretching her legs and her back. Brock started to move towards the dock and when he was on it, his hands were around her waist and dipping underneath the t-shirt she’d pull on.

Annie cringed when he pressed his lips to hers, protesting, “You taste like lake.”

It only encouraged him, though, and he pressed kisses across her face and pulled her tight against him so that he could transfer the water from his body to hers—when the squirming became slightly more panicked, he was quick to let go.

“We need to shower and then we can go see my mom.” Brock turned his attention to Coolie who had started to whine because he thought he was being ignored.

“We? Bud, I didn’t spend the entire morning on a lake.”

“I did and I want company.”

Brock whistled and Coolie made a mad dash for the house, reaching his arm back out for Annie to take his hand. She took it easily and was just as easily led up the path from the dock.

The house was ridiculous, frankly, if only because it was unnecessarily large and had cost less than half what a similar house would have cost in Vancouver—in fact, the only reason it had even approached the one-million-dollar mark was because it backed right onto the lake and had it’s own private dock.

The ensuite bathroom was its best feature—Annie was partial to the bathtub, mostly, but the shower was just as immaculate, and she was going to ask for both of them to be put into Brock’s house in Vancouver.

Stripping took next to no time at all; Annie’s shirt had come off when they were walking into the house and Brock’s board shorts coming off as soon as he was standing on the tiles. Annie’s bikini was gone before the water was even warm enough to stand under.

Brock reached for her again and she stepped into him, breathing in deeply as he started to kiss down her neck and across her shoulders while she ran her hands over the muscles in his back.

It was short lived.

“You taste like sunscreen,” Brock huffed, guiding Annie immediately into the spray and reaching for the bar of soap. “The sun didn’t even see your shoulders.”

“It might’ve later. I didn’t know what I was going to wear.”

Brock merely hummed, his mouth brushing over hers.

Annie was so on edge that the movement of the soap, with the brushing of Brock’s fingers, had her nearly panting by the time the soap was removed entirely from the equation. Brock’s hands moved over her skin, washing away soap residue, caressing every inch of her body from her shoulders to her feet.

She was pressed right up against him—he’d washed her legs blindly, lifting them up around his waist one-by-one—and rolling her hips was the best way to release some of the desire she was feeling even if it only made the desire increase. Finding purchase on the shower was always a fine art as it clearly hadn’t been designed with shower sex in mind, but when they found it they were golden.

“How quickly do you think I can get you off?” Brock breathed in Annie’s ear, right at the moment he lined himself up against her.

Annie gasped, her leg tightening around his waist, as he entered her.

“You know exactly how quick,” she sighed, rolling her hips to increase the friction.

It was quick, nothing either of them was ashamed about. They were never short of opportunities to take their time.

They did manage to actually shower, more so Brock of course, before dressing and corralling Milo and Coolie into the truck so that they could be with his mom in time for lunch.

Annie wound down the window when she was sitting in the truck, her hand outstretched and feeling the warm summer air through her fingers. Minnesota was different to Vancouver in just about every way, but it wasn’t so far removed from Rodney, Ontario, and it wasn’t something she ever wanted to let go of.

Especially not when Brock was beside her holding her hand.
