[ BIRTHDAY GIFT ]
“Professor Say’ri!!” Yuzu notices the lady’s figure within this muddled crowd of a line. It is that same line that prevents the student from greeting her properly with a bow. Hopefully her justified tone is enough to symbolize her respect for the master.
She shifts her position on line slightly to get closer to Say’ri, making sure it isn’t enough for a spoiled sport to force her back to the end of the line. “Are you here to deliver your tribute for the noble’s date of birth? It was admittedly difficult to specify a present for one I barely know, but…”
Yuzu reaches for a belt within her dress to reveal something wrapped in white cloth. She lifts the cloth partially to show off a shortsword underneath, but is quick to keep the gift preserved in the light wrapping.
“If he is a fellow attendee of the academy, I am sure he would find preference in a light blade,” Yuzu smiles at herself in satisfaction before a pensive frown takes over. “Unless…his preferred style is not swordplay? But fie, everyone should enjoy the hold of a blade!
“Lady Say’ri, did you find a gift that…mayhaps could be more liked?”
There's so much noise in this godsdamned crowd that Say'ri barely makes out the voice of a familiar ally; her head swivels back and forth before her eyes finally lock with Yuzu's, and a swift nod is what she can manage to acknowledge her as the two of them shuffle through the throngs of patrons to come to stand next to each other. Despite the inconveniences of the overpopulated area... the princess of Chon'sin still wears a delighted smile on her face, excitement for the celebration reflected in her eyes. "Yuzu! 'Tis good to see you here- as for my gift... 'Twas quite a struggle indeed to pick something proper." As her student reveals her own gift, Say'ri's eyes widen. There's a beat of pause before she breaks out into laughter, removing the package tucked under her arm to fiddle with it-- it takes a few seconds before she's able to wrest it free and undo the wrapping to display her own offering to the birthday boy. Where Yuzu's is a shortsword, Say'ri had procured a katana from Chon'sin-- specially crafted on a personal favor, the sheen of the blade a testament to the care and skill put into its forging. This was an opportunity to begin to spread the specialties of her nation, and proffering a sample to one of the nobles of this land would serve as her starting point. "It seems we had the same idea! 'Tis perfect-- an opportunity to learn both styles. I cannot fathom a better offering, Yuzu; there is no downside to having a fine blade on hand. To have two is only a boon."
"Only a fool would not cherish these gifts."

“Forgive me for the intrusion,” Yuzu speaks while approaching the energetic blonde, “but it has caught my attention that it is your birthday today.”
Despite their explosive first encounter, occurring right before Yuzu’s temporary retreat from the academy, she knows little else about the girl. Still, she acted so brave within the monastery’s danger-filled catacombs, that the samurai would be full of guilt if she did not interact with her during the occasion.
Thanks to the lack of familiarity, Yuzu wastes little time with casual formalities. She immediately takes a step back, crouching low and nearly bending on one knee.
“Young Elise of Nohr,” the Hoshidan announces, “I have come here on your day of birth to present you with a gift, a keepsake pertaining to our first meeting.”
With that, Yuzu scrounges about a large-ish bag and pulls out a lightweight bow made out of white tree and pine. It looks to be no better than a plaything, but the gifter pulls at the bowstring to show off its strong endurance. Arrows from this bow are sure to still leave a mark.
“I am aware we have not spoken since then, let alone after the trials a few moons back. However, if you have failed to master your ‘pinksplosion,’ or desire to improve your bow skill in general…I am still open to providing support. If not, I insist you take this present nonetheless."
Yuzu takes her eyes off the bow and looks back at her fellow student at eye-level. “Happy birthday, Elise.”
Out of the mental list of expected present-givers she may or may not have (and even if she does NO ONE is allowed to judge, it’s perfectly normal to be excited about presents on your birthday), Yuzu was definitely not amongst them. Not because she doesn’t think they’re friends or anything — she does, really! She just hadn’t realized they were at birthday level yet.
…Or kneeling level, apparently.
Hands fly up to cover the way her mouth opens as she gasps at the sight of the bow. “Really? A bow? For me? You’re giving me a weapon on my birthday?!” Her eyes are wide, hands nearly shaking as she grips a bow very much unlike the ones she’s allowed to bring into battle.
For a moment she says nothing, almost as if unsure how to react, before her expression shifts to one of pure joy. “EEEEE, thank you, thank you, THANK YOU! THIS IS AMAZING!!” Elise squeals, hugging the piece of wood tightly as if it were one of the plush toys typically gifted to her. But it’s not a toy. It’s a WEAPON. That’s, like, THE most mature grown up gift you could give somebody! Finally!
“Or, uh, I mean — my sincerestest of gratitudes, Yuzu of Hoshido! I promise I’m gonna treat it super well, it’ll never EVER break! Ooh — wait right here! I’m gonna go get arrows RIGHT NOW! You gotta tell me how much better I’ve gotten, hehe!”

[ Champagne ] - Imported from the western shores of the Adrestrian Empire, the school purchases 70 bottles of this stuff well in advanced for this day alone. The bartenders are under strict orders not to offer any student more than one glass.
This drink is...new, for the budding samurai. The staff explicitly told her that she only gets one shot at consumption, so she would be wise not to waste it. Of course, Emma is still much too young to gamble with such dangerous beverages, so she would have to find the proper partner...
...is that one of her house's teaching assistants? Spouting out about love to no one?
"Yes...to love. A treasured virtue to fight for," Yuzu slips next to Laslow, holding her own champagne glass forward for a toast. "I never took you for the romantic type, professor."
Startled, he looks at his side, surprised to find someone responding to his ridiculous announcement, let alone with a drink in hand. She looks passingly familiar; a student of his house, maybe.
Now there's a surprise. An eyebrow raises. She must be new here if she wasn't aware of his rather vocal views on the subject. "Moi? Then I've done a poor job of cultivating my reputation around here!"
He tips his glass against hers with a laugh. "What's the point of living without love, yeah? That's always been my philosophy." Champagne bubbles pop and fizz on his tongue before he swallows a polite sip of the beverage.
"I'm glad someone agrees with me! Here, a token of my appreciation." One handed, he fiddles with his brooch, pricking the pad of his pointer finger in the process. Laslow hisses at the sting. "Heh, guess I need to be more careful."

Somehow, by the grace of the goddess herself, Shamir is in the lead. Which she really doesn't care about right now, considering her vision swims and she knows she needs a glass of water stat. But their competition isn't over yet, and so she pushes herself to her feet once again, unsteady in the sand as she marches forward to rise to the occasion. Last time. Just one more. She can make it that far, right?
Shamir rolls: 2. 0 points for Round 3.
Wrong. This time, she doesn't even make it to the bar. Her world turns into a blur and a step to the side ends with her stumbling sideways until she loses her footing in the sand, collapsing in a rather pitiful heap with zero attempt to right herself or peel herself off of the ground. It feels nice, to stay here.... to just........... lay down.... while everything around her is a strange mix of colors and sounds that just kinda make her want to puke. "Hrrk......" And she might, if she even tries to get up. So she lays there, no damns given for the state of her pride, mumbling something about how she wishes someone would turn out the lights. "S'too damn noisy... Ah shit..." @craneswings

i will say, having modded switch games myself on a somewhat underpowered laptop i definitely believe the switch 2 can eventually be emulated with decently low overhead. nintendo is still skimping on its specs and the structure of their os and consoles hasn't changed much since the gamecube so the people who work on emulation have a lot to work with. if you have even a decent computer and are willing to wait it will definitely be cheaper to wait for emulation cuz it's really not such a pipe dream. not everyone is in that position tho so please remember this is just a valid option not the Only Moral Option Forever
#stealing games is awesome and will always get easier with time since release#but timing or tech is sometimes exactly the problems people face#if you don't already have a decent pc waiting for emulation and getting one is going to set you back more than just buying a console#i just wouldn't compare nintendo emulation to other modern consoles#because of how poorly protected nintendo games are#yuzu is a work of art and really shows the true potential of well supported emulation#i've had yuzu updates take bowsers fury from 30 fps to a clean 60 while recording without me changing my setup#nintendo is basically asking for their games to be emulated unless they've finally changed their workflow and security completely#which for such a big company and such a successful product is unlikely

In a period full of no instruction, it is the recent arrival of Professor Say’ri that makes Yuzu perhaps look forward to days of instruction once more. Yet another lady that has become one with their blade, to be a mighty threat while wielding a sword. And yet, there is one detail regarding the swordmaster that Yuzu is incapable of resting her finger on…
“Instructor Say’ri,” Yuzu gathers courage to greet the lady one day, with a very generous bow to her senior. “I am Yuzu, a fellow student of the sword. May I ask…how is it that you are able to wield double the blade-power at once? What secret martial technique allows thou the capability of literally flashing your foes with multiple blades?!”
The samurai initially held her hands appropriately to her sides, but she is soon rocking them in fists ahead of her very enthusiastically. Like a reporter attempting to learn of her hero’s secrets.
Say'ri is certainly accustomed to receiving questions about various things on her person-- whether it's her choice of swords, her attire, or inquiries into her origins or culture... but it's rare that she receives such earnest attention in an attempt to learn from the ability she holds as a master swordswoman.
It brings nothing short of a warm smile to her face, returning the courteous bow with one of her own, a light chuckle escaping. She's never had a chance to truly teach someone, so her position as an instructor is quite the novel experience; if all of her students are to be as vibrant as her, then perhaps she'll enjoy this far more than she initially believed. "I suppose it would not be incorrect to say that my homeland, Chon'sin, has a unique culture in more than one way-- this includes our swordplay. Should you have the time, I would gladly expound upon the differences." "'Tis no small feat to temper one blade, let alone two." Say'ri rests a gloved hand on the hilt of one of her katanas, an expression of thought crossing her features as her dark brows furrow slightly. "You are already familiar with studying the way of the sword, aye? There is no secret, nor method of achieving such mastery in a single day." "Your first task is to treat your single blade as an extension of not only your body, but your soul. If you cannot maintain such a flawless form with one, you cannot expect yourself to begin to make use of two." Say'ri's thoroughly fond of the enthusiasm she shows, and she's already making a mental note of who she should keep an eye on as time progresses. "Within you burns a bright flame, Yuzu. May you ever kindle it as you journey onwards."

[ FASHION POLICE ]
There is something that screams…”familiar” to Yuzu as she peeks over many of the other party guests. True, nearly everyone has chosen to wear something showy or fancy for the evening - and Yuzu is thankful that she does not stand out as much as she potentially did the year prior. But then there are a select few that catch the samurai’s eye without having to look extremely luxuriant.
This lady here, for instance, stands tall while wearing a light mask. Obviously, Yuzu knows of one person who would go around wearing masks outside of masquerades but…it would be harsh to assume everyone hides their face for the same purpose. Who is this person anyway? Beyond the white robes, Yuzu cannot recall any staff member or student with such flowing silver hair…
“Meep!” Yuzu blurts out once she finally realizes that while the crane has been staring so intensely, the lady has been staring back. “M-My apologies…I have just never seen a covering so mystifying, that is all.”
The chance for small talk was killed before there was even a chance, but Yuzu tries so anyway. “...do you plan on entering the masquerade with such a mask?”
Who was this.... child?? She just comes up and then stares for a while. And then has the audacity to stutter out an apology. Thrasir stared back with her ever present expressionless face. She tilted her head, a faux representation of curiosity.
"No, I do not plan on entering the masquerade," she replied blandly. Masquerades were a pointless charade. What was the point in it? She wore her black mask usually to add to her look as a General of Hel. A show of solidarity with Líf. This mask though merely covered her eyes as... perhaps a filter. Something... to help her see the world differently. Muted.
"Did you want something from me?" Thrasir asked with a sigh.

IN preparation for the festival, it was paramount that the knights help sort through and manage inventory. It was a mock-battle, but a festivity nonetheless; and hey, what better way to celebrate a tradition than to duke it out about it! Sorting through the armory that would be moved to Gronder was tedious, though. Catherine had probably counted this crate of bows four times now, and it had felt like she would be there forever. So, when tasked to leave to procure more weaponry, namely swords, she had jumped at the opportunity.
And, well, taking an assistant in one of the students would probably be a welcome change of pace.
She strut up and down the line of traveling merchants, eyeing their spreads. It wasn't unusual for the monastery to allow more merchants than their market could reasonably hold, especially before a celebration, but the overabundance of noise was quite out of the ordinary. One merchant in particular caught her eye, and she waved over Yuzu to where she stood. Nodding a greeting to the wizened swordsman, her gloved hands gently slid up the length of the blade, feeling for knicks. To her fingers, it felt quality enough; but there was something off about these swords.
"Hey, Yuzu." Her booming voice carried easily over the din of the market. "Mind if you try these swords for a second? I can't quite put my finger on it, but something's bugging me."
She cast a questioning look at the merchantl; and at his confirmation, she grabbed the sword she had eyed and tossed it to Yuzu.
"Catch."

Hiiii pls 🖊🖊🖊 for Yuzu 💖
@mystery-salad
YUZU!!
send me 🖊 for an oc fun fact or headcanon!
anyways. the big canon divergence in her timeline is that she becomes champion of kralkatorrik after the departing, making a mess of everything, but things actually started deviating a lot earlier. it takes them longer to get to the bitter harvest for various plot reasons (they get, uh, sidetracked), and in that time mordremoth fully (and forcefully) bonds trahearne to himself as his champion. he basically comes to the conclusion that it would be catastrophic for pact morale and the future of the sylvari for the world to see him wholly subsumed by mordremoth, and that mordremoth probably wants him to fight against the commander when her and her team make their way into his clutches, so he claws his way out of his nest and runs into the woods, hoping to never be seen again.
yuzu and friends find bitter harvest empty, with no sign of trahearne. canach volunteers himself in his place, wanting to prove himself reformed. he climbs into the mess of floral viscera that trahearne left behind, opens up his mind to the dragon after weeks of pounding, and allows them into the dream. their version of the fight really is a migraine and a half. this puts canach out of commission for a good year or so as he recovers from the psychological ordeal, meaning that he’s not assisting the shining blade— and neither is yuzu, because she’s in the heart of maguuma trying to find trahearne. (when she does find him, it doesn’t go well). the krytan civil war gets stretched out and has more casualties, and yuzu is absent from almost all of it because the rest of her fixation in season three is entirely on primordus and jormag.
this also means that path of fire is ultimately just yuzu and rytlock, because canach is trying to get his footing again, and kasmeer stays behind in divinity’s reach to run support for the queen (her crisis of faith is wrecking her but she’s instead throwing herself into the war). as you can imagine, only having rytlock in your party as your single voice of reason in the fight against balthazar does not lend itself to the most sensible decision making, and they don’t have a mesmer in the group to facilitate the canon plans with impersonating archon iberu, and so really can you blame her for going to the big guy for help—
#rytlock and her. forever and always. officially the only two members of their guild. her one supporter despite everything#meanwhile her and trahearne are the most divorced trammander couple.#it’s a lot of yuzu trying to fix things (badly) while no children starts playing louder and louder in trahearnes head#ty for the ask fox <3#khismat#mystery-salad

“Your hair. Does it fare well?”
A ridiculous question. They have endured crumbling chaos, splitting grounds, and aggressive golems, and rather than their health, all Yuzu can ask about is the quality of the exterior of her teammate’s head?
Of course. She need not worry too deeply about the former when they are alive now, no?
“I veer little from my normal style, but a dear ally had made her best attempt to have me experiment,” Yuzu idly plays with one of her front bangs with a free hand, cherishing its looseness and practicality. “I am aware we hold little time for cosmetic restoration now, but if later serves better…it would bring joy for me to be of assistance.”
When they had been trapped in those dark catacombs, it had felt like they would never see the light of day again. Even so, the sun rises again and again, regardless of what happens in the lives of the people living in this world. The sun will rise, just as it always does, and they will go back to asking each other mundane questions instead of wondering which injury will be their last.
"Oh... yes. Thank you... I'm fine now."
Indeed, where her hair had gotten tugged had stopped hurting far quicker than where stone had gauged and bruised her skin. Those, too, would eventually become long forgotten memories.
The ribbon Yunaka had used to tie up her hair some time ago is askew now; holding most, but not all, of her up off the ground. All of the running and getting it snagged on things had ripped hair out of where it had been tightly tied. By this point, her hair is half up and half down, back to dragging on the ground behind her.
She could easily tie it again, especially now that they have a moment to breathe again. She probably will, once she no longer feels tired down to her very bones.
(As much as she treasures her hair, unwieldy though it is, she sometimes wonders what it would be like to move as easily as Yuzu does.)
"Then later... you can help me..." Sophia offers a tired smile. "...If you... will let me braid yours."

Shamir's not blind to the fact that she's being pitied, and the thought makes her want to speak up-- but it's a silly competition, made outside of any official capacity. If the student feels like she needs to make things harder on herself, then so be it; it's not like Shamir to care about the little details of these sorts of things. It's been a waste of time from the beginning, and now it's only serving to make her look.... really, really bad.
Roll: 1d20 = 4!
That shot was a little better than the last, but something is off. She knows that arrow should've sailed straight down the middle, but it veered off to the right instead-- violet eyes narrow as she turns her bow in her hands, unsure if something's gone awry with the structure. The string looks fine, her grip hasn't changed... maybe it's just an off day, where her vision opts to play tricks on her. Either way, she's got to salvage this. She's one of the top Knights of Seiros, she can't be losing to a student when she knows that she can do so much better. There's a bit of luck involved in this, though, and Shamir simply sighs and shakes her head. "It's not my day."
@craneswings
no secondscoping, please
a duel for the ages!!

𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐢 𝐰𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐝 prompt | no longer accepting
The open field wasn’t exactly the perfect place for Sakura to be, but as she was asked to accomplish some errands in her homeland, Hoshido, she couldn’t refuse the plead and immediately took a break from the Monastery to take care of her home country’s business: she simply had to recover some lost ambassadors from Mokushu, a bordering country that always was a bit ambiguous throughout the whole war period, but eventually fell as it declared war against Hoshido. After the events of the war between Nohr and Hoshido, Sakura asked for a reconstruction of the land, assuring she would lead the negotiation with the new ruler.
The ambassadors from Mokushu were heading towards their land to discuss a new trade route, but they were captivated by some bandits along the road –or at least, that was what the delegate reported to Sakura as soon as she reached the castle. “We can't let them die on the road” she stated, worried and sharing a gaze of concern with the others court nobles and officials. “I’ll take care of their rescue, I’m the one who wanted to do the negotiation with Mokushu..” she added, looking a bit desolate since she surely wouldn’t want to go alone, till, a familiar face showed up with a gentle tone as she offered to escort the petite princess in the mission.
“Miss Yuzu..?” she recognised her, even though the two of them didn’t spent much time together, nor there, nor at the monastery. But one thing was for sure: she was a very diligent samurai, Sakura has heard of her deeds, especially the one of her family. In all response, the Hoshidian Princess made a small bow and shared a radiant smile as soon met her gaze –she definitely was in good hands, she was sure of it.
As the couple departed, the sun went down very quickly, making a brief appearance in the sky behind the mountain, as the two of them reached the destination where the ambassadors were lastly seen –the Mokushu's Forest. As soon as she realized of the place, a shiver ran down her spine, as she clearly remembered the terrible fate that soon followed the events happened in that forest; she did her best to cover the angriness mixed with sadness, doing her best to reply Yuzu’s concern, “It’s nothing, really..” she dismissed the conversation pretty quickly, concentrating on the surrounding to find where the prisoners were hidden: exploring the forest led the couple to a small clearing, where an old shack was, apparently abandoned, with the main door open.
Yuzu warnings didn’t reach Sakura’s mind as she immediately approached the entrance, discovering the three ambassadors all tied and gagged, “Found them!!” the enthusiasm was too loud maybe and a suspicious sound came from her right, from the bushes nearby, but the reaction of her partner was swifter and as Yuzu threw herself to cover Sakura, an arrow was shot from the bush, piercing the arm of the poor girl who came to protect the pink-haired girl.
“Miss Yuzu!!!” she yelled, taking out the healing staff and already reciting the soothing words, while a hand was placed on her wound, but the effect of the healing was so immediate that Yuzu could immediately stand on her feet to counter-attack. “Let me help too!” the petite priestess cried as she put the staff aside and bring put from her small pocket bag a tome. “The won’t have a chance against us!” she hissed, exchanging a quick glance with the samurai girl and then casting the Blizzard spell on the bushes: three bandits rolled out in pain, one managed to escape. Yuzu didn’t wait for a further second and with a dash, she reached the stomach of the fugitive, making the most of her blade; the man was on the ground.
“We made it!” she exulted, almost forgetting to free the three man inside the hut, but first of all, she wanted to make sure she showed enough gratitude to the saviour of her life; she put the tome away, drew closer to the purplish-haired girl and gently picked one of her hands in hers, squeezing it softly, “I’m glad you chose to accompany me. You’re a lifesaver –MY lifesaver” she lastly giggled, turning to liberate the ambassadors and finally getting back home, with the mission accomplished.

“Observe, Yuzu my friend, as this bird is captured in my brilliant trap! Who needs bows when you have a simple trap like this?” L’Arachel boasted, observing the turkoose rapidly approaching a bird food covered net.
She had not expected she would get a chance to show off her amazing hunting skills today, but with the kitchen requesting some turkeese and her friend Yuzu among those attempting to help, doing so was the obvious choice! She gets to spend time with a dear companion, showcase a more competent side to her after the bear incident, and impress a skilled fighter with her own abilities.
Giddy with excitement, rubbing her hands together, L’Arachel watches as the turkoose tilts its head as it spots the bird food, before skipping over. Getting closer and closer and closer, finally it reaches the spot it should stand on and the net… does nothing?
Freezing in place, hands awkwardly pressed together, L’Arachel watches with an increasingly unhappy look on her face as the turkoose happily eats the bird seed before skipping off away, none the wiser of L’Arachel’s trickery.
“I do not understand. The trap should have been flawless. Perhaps… Yes, that must be it! Something must have tripped the mechanism while we were not looking, possibly another devious little birdie! Our poor net did not get any use.”
Walking out of their hiding spot, L’Arachel approached the net to dust off any remnants of bird feed off of it, before promptly stumbling back and falling on her behind as the net sprung up, the trap finally activating. The shock on her face gives way to anger, as she turns to Yuzu with a determined gaze.
“My dear compatriot, may I count on your expertise going forward? I do not know what this bird has just done, but I do know the consequences of its actions. This. Means. War.”
