in an SO, the most important thing is that they need to understand sometimes i just need time to myself. i’m not mad at them at all but i tend to isolate myself whenever my mental health deteriorates and i sometimes go a few days without contacting people simply bc i don’t have the energy to do so. whenever it does deteriorate, it’s usually because i just feel really down out of nowhere and it lasts 12 hours to a week.

i don’t really work well with clingy people. i feel like i’d be okay if my SO focused on volleyball a lot bc i respect that they need time to work on their own things, so i wouldn’t say that i need lots of attention in relationships. i also spend more time on studies (future med student *fingers crossed*) than extracurriculars.

an ideal date to me is either going to an amusement park or the mall. i LIVE for the adrenaline roller coasters give me and i just think everything about it is super fun. malls are also nice bc i love shopping haha. nights in are cool too bc it means skin care and movie marathons :)

my favorite relationship dynamic is light hearted bullying. making fun of people and getting made fun of (with love ofc) is definitely a love language, and i’m not taking criticism <3 but i still want to be able to talk to them about serious stuff so knowing that i can wholeheartedly trust them is big for me

you’ve turned your back towards him, your chest rising as you let the cold night air fill up every crevice of your lungs. bokuto couldn’t see your face, but he could imagine the serene look that must have fallen on your features. a look that he had grown accustomed to in the years he’s known you. a look you’ve worn on the rainy nights you’ve stayed over at his place. the same one he’s stared at during late afternoon study sessions in the library.

he doesn’t fully understand why he’s followed you out onto the rooftop of his former high school, the very same place he had first laid his eyes on you. the reunion is still in full swing, and while he relished in answering a million different questions on the state of his professional volleyball career, he’d much rather reach a hand out to touch your shoulder. so he does.

your eyes widen in suprise before they flash with hurt, face falling at the sight of his uncertain smile. it’s a look he’s seen before, the last one he saw before you slammed his apartment door. bokuto’s response remains the same, a flinch and an ache in his chest. from the suddenness of your leaving. from the coldness in your voice.

“what are you doing here?”

“i should be asking you that.” he chuckles, though it felt forced. the intensity of your stare, the heartbreak in your eyes, makes him look down at his feet. “everyone’s wondering where you are.”

“i’m sure they’re wondering where you are.”

bokuto looks up to find you staring at the horizon. there’s a sharpness in your words, laced with a pain that he knows he’s caused. his mind is racing, filled with everything he’s held in for the past couple of weeks. he loves you. he’s been loving you for as long as he’s known. he didn’t mean what he said. he didn’t mean for volleyball to occupy all of his free time. he didn’t mean to make you feel less important because of his place in the public eye. if he could, he’d travel back in time to redo everything. 

but the words are caught in the back of his throat, stuck on the tip of his tongue, all of them wanting to escape. he settles on three instead, “i miss you.”

he’s met with silence, you didn’t even bother looking back at him. there’s more that he wants to say, but couldn’t find the courage too. his own voice seemed foreign to his ears, a vulnerability in his tone that he’s never heard before. there’s more that he wants to say, more that he needed you to know. bokuto grabs your hand, a strange mix of comfort and unfamiliarity in how you let him hold it but refused to intertwine your fingers. like you used to.

the music from the reunion a few floors below fill the air, certainly a strange choice but bokuto was grateful nonetheless. his lips press into a thin line, letting the lyrics do the talking for him.

‘and i know i've kissed you before, but i didn't do it right, can i try again?’

you knew what he meant, what he was trying to say. the night was winding down for your old schoolmates, but it felt like the longest one was about to begin for you and bokuto. you sigh, but say nothing. squeezing his hand instead, hoping he understood.

‘try again, and again, and again’

he does, a wistful smile on his face as the song eventually fades out.

Koshi Sugawara!

Sugawara has a natural knack for understanding how people are feeling. He can pick up on subtle clues that other people seem to miss and knows how to comfort or support people.

He knows how to not take himself too seriously, too. With him, there’s a balance - one day, you could be making fun of random people’s outfits and making fun of each other until your sides hurt from laughter, and another day he could be the support that you need. (light hearted bullying is absolutely a love language and it is one of the best ones!!)

He is very focused on the volleyball club. Being vice-captain has a lot of pressure and a lot of responsibilities, as well as having to deal with the workload from college prep classes. 

I can see him not being too clingy with you, but he’s not one to say no if you want to be affectionate with him. 

Lots of study dates. He really admires your goal of wanting to go to med school, and he knows you can do it. He wants to help you in any way he can, whether it be mentally, emotionally, or physically.

Very proud of you and all you’ve accomplished, and shows it in various ways. Some days he’ll say it aloud, and other days he’ll leave a present on your desk. 

When it comes to your self esteem, he’s always there to lift you up and he also knows how to balance you out. On days when you feel like the worst person alive, he knows just how to reassure you and make you feel better. And when you think you’re the sexiest? He can’t say anything against that <3

He also is the type to slowly show you that yes, while your academic achievements are amazing, you are too. Even if the two of you don’t last, he hopes you learn that you are worth more than your grade.
