Something I don't get is why part of the stardew valley fandom is constantly valoring the spouses and who is better and who is worse and why if you choose this character you have the worst taste ever and you don't deserve to make decisions.

Like, we're playing a game that lets you avoid reality, create your own farm and flirt with the local neighbours, we're here chilling and planting crops and blackmailing the mayor, why do we need to fight because this character is childish or this is boring? Can't we just love the game and the spouses, instead of puting them against each other to show others why they shouldn't have this as their fav character?

Also, there's people with vivid imagination who give the characters more backstory and personality traits than what the game shows us. I've seen lots of amazing fanarts and read some fics that I liked a lot, and I love how every creator has their own story about how the farmer lives their daily life in pelican town.

After all, kindness is an important part of the game.

...and destroying capitalism. That's important too.

Stardew Valley fanart!

I'm not sure if there's a headcanon shared by the Stardew Valley community about the secret statues or if there's any additional canon information but I made my own headcanons up about them! More under cut.

??HMTGF?? headcanon:

HMTGF is obviously a robot made up by our resident child prodigy/engineer, Maru. Maru created HMTGF as a child and it was meant to be an imaginary friend who could assist on mechanical engineering projects. She used household materials.

In order to bring HMTGF to life, Maru attempted to use the souls of sea creatures. Don't worry, ultimately no sea creatures were harmed in the making of HMTGF, but suffice it to say: Penny read a book about exorcising the souls of creatures and animating objects using them. Demetrius had to explain to them that it wasn't appropriate to use animals in this manner (He tried to explain what ethics boards approval entails but Robin just made a blanket "no including live animals in your experiments" rule).

Anyways, you find HMTGF abandoned in the dumpter behind Joja. Perhaps the sea cucumber's soul is successfully transferred into HMTGF, but who knows. It doesn't seem to move.

??Pinkylemon??

Pinkylemon is a representation of a little brownie-like creature that lives in Gus's home. Like fantasy brownies and other elves, Pinky cleans up the Saloon in exchange for bowls of milk or other treats. One time Gus was out of milk so he gave it duck mayonnaise, which it loved even more.

The statue of Pinkylemon was made by Leah out of wood, after she found out about the creature. Stockings and shoes were sewn by Evelyn, after she found out that a brownie lived with Gus, so thats why it has little clothes on the statue. Elliot is the one who told Gus more about the brownies. All the villagers who know of Pinky are pleased that a creature has come to the center of town.

??Foroguemon??

In the cutscene where Vincent and Jas (and the farmer) are spooked by what they see in the sewers, many people assume that they're seeing Krobus. But what if... they're not seeing Krobus, they're seeing Foroguemon?

Foroguemon is a frog that mutated in the sewers. Vincent eventually begins trying to feed him and becomes less afraid of him. Vincent sculpted the Foroguemon statue to prove that he was real, but nobody believed him; if you offer the strange bun to Vincent he gives you the statue and feeds the strange bun to Foroguemon.

Elaho's Cultural Flower Dance mod is now up and ready to go! Almost every character from the vanilla game now has unique sprites and portraits to reflect their cultural heritage, along with a few surprises and bonus content if specific mods are installed.

stardew valley bachelors/bachelorettes with tumblr

bachelors

sebastian: posts philosophical questions about the most random and unheard of stuff. usually gets anime stuff on his fyp even though he swears he doesn’t engage in any of it. definitely some dnd here and there.

shane: average tumblr enjoyer. reblogs the normal hell site stuff, occasionally puts in some memes of his own. a few have blown up. (he reads fanfics on here too, though he won’t admit it)

sam: would have an account, but barely uses it. his feed is mainly grunge skateboard pics and normal hell site stuff. fyp isn’t completely accurate because he never uses tumblr.

alex: pokémon. no, i don’t mean like gardevoir and lopunny, i mean straight up wholesome pikachu and ash content.

harvey: health tips, true crime stuff, stories of the clinically ill—that kind of thing. and a healthy dosage of anime girls. don’t tell anyone.

elliott: quotes from authors he likes. definitely some poetic lines with pictures of nature. occasionally gets writer memes, too—he tries to stay away from those (because he can’t be seen looking at memes; he’s too proper for that duh). also gets stuff about plants. if willy gets an account (which he won’t but bear with me) he’ll be sent fishing tips almost every day.

bachelorettes

haley: skincare tips, daily affirmations, aesthetic flowers, cute etsy finds. literally the preppiest girl to live.

penny: has tumblr (because of elliott) but never uses it. feed is literally all over the place because it doesn’t know what she likes.

abigail: like shane, she’s an average tumblr enjoyer: hell site posts, memes galor. but she’s got a bit more too it than that—smutty fanfics are both written and read by this girly. most definitely has written something about sebastian.

leah: art posts! uses tumblr to find artists to support via etsy or patreon. breaks off a bit of her monthly earnings to give to random artists.

maru: cool astronomy stuff, mostly. you know those long posts about planets and stuff that you have too short of an attention span to read? she eats those up. has hell site posts on her fyp, but only the interesting ones. probably has recent hyperfixation related things on there too.

emily: barely uses tumblr, but definitely goes on there sometimes. like elliott, she gets pics of nature and quotes; but her fyp are usually centered around astrology and crystals. makes a ton of friends on there, also has a few famous posts—but other than that she’s you’re average crystal girl.

I can’t believe how down bad I am for Harvest Moon SNES.

I’m surprised how good it looks and feels to play despite being the first of its kind.

I also didn’t realize just how much it influenced Stardew Valley. I knew SV was essentially a nod to Harvest Moon, and it has things in common with other HM games, but HM SNES has a hot springs that restores stamina, a farm that has a very similar layout to SV’s farm (but flipped), small babies that run around, and the bachelorettes have a lot of parallels to SV’s. Ann is essentially proto Maru. I’m sure there’s more but I thought that was cool as hell!

I started playing sdv because my best friend (cue: he's everything to me you have no idea) recommended it to me and i had a game save where I was on fall but had 0 progress on everything except maru so I deleted it

On my current file (2nd one) i'm in the middle of winter year 1 and I already have a coop (2 chicken), copper axe watercan and picaxe (or however you spell pico and regadera in english) and recently installed a coop + already have the kitchen upgrade in my house and the mushrooms thing in the cave

Maru reminds me a bit of my best friend (it's the glasses I think) but Sebastian does as well (it's the depression and the black hoodie I tgink) and it's kinda fucked up bc they're half siblings but my inability to date him (my best friend) makes me very emotional about those to (and also Harvey and Shane. It's the glasses and depression respectively, I think)

I'm very Friends(tm) with most of the town but I need to befriend Clint FAST (I have 0 hearts with him rn) because I want to see the second 6-heart event of Shane aaaaaaaaaaaaaa)

Also!! Gonna ramble a bit about my Stardew experience don't mind me-

I actually started playing because I watched my brother play and thought it was super cool!!! I got it on my tab though and I can NOT play SV with touch controls I could never fish correctly and it was so hard to move around I ended up making like no money and only having a high friendship level with Sam and Haley because I couldn't afford to befriend anyone else (those two are my favourites hfdj). I had 0 progress on the community centre and I stopped by the start of year two. Flash forward a few real life years and I got it on my laptop which was SO much easier I bought a new fishing rod (had to sell mine because I had no cash) and befriended the whole town and finished the community centre and also got some mods so that I could marry Haley too and I have an in-game child and a fully upgraded house and a slime hutch on YEAR 3 AND I'M VERY PROUD OF IT FHJDKFJDK <333

Also sidenote I knew fishing makes a lot of money so I picked the Riverland farm on my tab but then could never fish so it was just really inconvenient - but now I have separate islands for all my things like, the animals don't need a fence they have their own island there <3
