Spirituality first addresses the emotional aspect of mind’s crisis. But gradually it goes deeper and enfolds the intelligence, whose wont is ever to seek enlightenment. Once the intelligence is illumined, the mind’s turmoil subsides.

This much-needed alliance between the mind and intelligence does not usually take place for all. Intelligence, if at all, comes to play much later. Till then, mind rules the scene; and conflict, distress and helplessness inevitably result, as in the case of Arjuna in Kurukshetra.

You know that perception always proceeds from the perceiver. Whatever may be the object-dimension of the universe, when an individual begins to see it, it simply becomes the perception of the individual. And in that perception you can bring about such a great revolution that ‘everything and all’ will become equal to or alike the Self.

Whether you experience something inside or outside, it should constitute the worship of the all-enfolding Presence. Perceptions, when instrumented by senses, indicate external objects. When effected by mind and intelligence, they are referred to as internal objects. The two do not make any difference, when it comes to the question of worshipping the Supreme all-enfolding Presence.

When you see an object through the eyes, are the eyes seeing or do the eyes merely help in seeing? Where is this experience of seeing taking place? Where are the experiences stored? The interactions and perceptions proceed from the mind, they subsist on the mind, and they finally terminate in the mind. So where is the focus and fulcrum of your life? Is it not your mind? Are you conscious of this? Are you aware of it?

When will your mind be sufficiently infused with the majesty of the Cause as different from the non-majesty of the effect? One thinker and one thinking-substance producing a number of thoughts! What do you think of the might of the thinker? With this knowledge, can your mind overwhelm bodily identity and subsequent attachments? Can your intelligence along with its findings, overwhelm all other so-called facts that are perceived, along with their influence? Can your ‘ego’ become subtle, glorious and elevated? Now, the question is how soon can you do it! And how well will you find stability in your realization!

You have a pair of small biological eyes. Using these eyes, you are able to see a mustard; you can also see a mountain. You see the endless, extensive sea and finally the unbounded universe. In the matter of perceiving, eyes are only instrumental. It is the mind that perceives, and the seen magnitude also is imprinted in the mind. If the infinite impression can be imprinted within you, tell me, is your mind circumscribed by the body or is it infinite?

If the mind were to comprehend the imprint of the mustard, the mountain, the endless sky and also the unbounded space, what should be the extensiveness of the mind itself?

In informing, helping and guiding the seeker, there are three constituents. One is the scriptures, no doubt. But even more important is the presence and interaction with the Sadguru, the Knower of Truth. Even if both are there, the seeker cannot be assured of reaching his goal, if he is not given assiduously to his own sādhanā.

Scriptures as well as the Guru can only enlighten the seeker, with endearingness and emphasis as to what his sādhanā should be. Sādhanā also should be very specific to get rid of the “delusion about the body and the Soul”. Ignorance and delusion fall only when the seeker is able to realize the Self in him, in all clarity and fullness. Self experience, verily, is the last word.

It is incorrect and un-scriptural to think that mind can function only with desires. Mind has equally the potential to function without desires. Between desire-free and desire-ridden actions, the former is far more precise and effective. Desires instantly bring delusion and clinging – a great hindrance to knowledge. Let the mind be rid of desires and possessiveness. You will find its dimensions instantly grow sky high.

To glimpse the oneness of oceans is not difficult, it is evident before the eyes. To lead the mind to quietitude is the first step. Thereupon, it should be led to nirvāṇa, redemption. At no time does the true content of the mind undergo any change. None of the mind’s functions has any power to change mind’s essence. Nirvāṇa prakaraṇa of Yoga-vāsiṣṭha Rāmāyaṇa discusses this truth in various ways, until at last the seeker is able to live and move in the world unaffectedly, enjoying the ecstasy of freedom, liberation.
