Cellular phones are one of the considered essentials of today in all ages! These are used for working, schooling, socializing and it undeniably became a part of one’s day to day basis which means it is hard to go out without bringing a cell phone. Personally, my cellphone has been a holy grail! This is where I store my personal information, my daily reminders just like how it functions to everybody’s life, I can pay for my goods through my cellphone and it somehow dictates how my day would go because it has all these apps that I installed it with. Going back to the old days of April 3, 1973, the first cell phone was made by Motorela researcher and executive Martin Cooper. Since then and the following years, life has been made easy in terms of communicating, all thanks to you Mr. Cooper! As years go by, many developments and upgrades were made. One of the reasons why upgrades are made is to conform and address the sentiments of the consumers.

Are we humans perfect? Of course, no, so how come our phones can be perfect? The common problems that consumers experience with their phones is its poor battery life, storage space, long charging period, overheating, app crashes and issues with phone running slow.

Defining the hypothesis

The team conducted an online interview to random respondents to see their concerns and personal problems that we can generate a product to address it so. With the accumulated information, the team came up with an idea to create a product-- IC-Gen 1 5G, a solar powered phone. It is hypothesized that the product can address the needs, demands and problems of the consumers. The product will provide relief to consumers because these smartphones are portable in terms of charging, ecologically friendly, low maintenance cost, more efficient compared to the performance of the readily available phones, it has higher lifespan, it cuts off electricity bills, and importantly,  these phones are independent with external electricity sources but we made it a dual charging phone--solar and external electricity source to make it more fit to anyone who wants to go both at the same time.

Hypothesis testing and result

An online interview was done to random people and it showed several answers that we could work on however, the team decided to focus on what among these products would still be very functional and helpful in a man’s everyday life. The problem that we have chosen to focus on is the overheating and the long period of charging of mobile phones. After the online interview, the team generated a google form survey which includes questions addressing their problem. 60 respondents from different age groups responded on the survey and it showed that 56.7% of the total populace charges their phones 2-3 times a day; 61.7% responded that it takes 2-4 hours to fully charge their phones; and 81.7% said that they are interested in buying solar-powered smartphone.

Team’s options and decisions

People have been using smartphones that do not have long lasting batteries to suffice the daily activities that phones are mostly involved in. It is a hassle to go to a place and having to eye on electric sockets for charging opportunities. Today’s smartphones are handy but not as handy and hassle-free at this product that I am to introduce to you.

Solar powered smartphones are the product that me and the team has been eyeing for. This is what we call the IC-Gen 1 5G. IC-Gen 1 5G is a solar powered smartphone that has incredible specs.

IC-Gen 1 5G will generate power from direct or indirect heat of the sun which means it charges even when you are just walking on a nice day. These phones are handy and portable that you can easily carry it anywhere, at the beach, on top of the mountains, without having to eye on electricity sockets to charge up your phone. Anywhere you may be, your phone is always on the go providing no delays on your activities. The team came up with the idea of making these solar-powered smartphones using durable materials with modern technology in comparison to flagship smartphones with a smaller price to pay. The smartphone is equipped with a solar cell that is capable of charging with 30 watts and above depending on the heat temperature, meaning it can be fully charged from zero to 100 in just 48 minutes! This is a technological advancement in the world of smartphones, and the advantages of this solar-powered phone are revolutionary.

Other option of the team was the anti-radiation glasses however, this option is much focused on the current situation. The team decided to shift in working with a product that anyone at any age and any day can use even after the pandemic.

Lessons and insights gathered by the team

The team learned to consider the needs and demands of the consumers even after the current situation. We have learned to focus on the problem that the consumers’ needs to be addressed and not solely taking advantage on the pandemic
