You know, when I started thinking about which of the new members of Overwatch Cassidy would relate to, I didn't think that one of the characters would be Symmetra. But holy shit their stories share so many similarities-

Used for child labor

Both were on the poorer side of the equation after being orphaned by the crisis

They have a mentor that happens to be an elite member of Talon

Both are more morally good then their respective mentors

Both have never really felt like they fit in with their respective groups (Symmetra having that being pointed out to her by her superiors)

Both have a tendency to question their higher ups, especially their mentors

Both have someone who was close with them that was from a much more stable background, but as a result of circumstance their on rocky footing now (Lifeweaver and Ashe)

I'm now convinced that at some point those two are just going to trauma dump on each other and it's just going to be;

"I was used for child labor and my mentor who I thought saved me is now a part of Talon."

"Same here wtf!!"

Overwatch lore eternally frustrates me because there's definitely seeds and beginnings of incredibly cool stuff, but in the six years since launch they've done fucking nothing with it. They could do so much with the building blocks they have, and yet. Shit like:

Are Echo, Athena, and Orisa omnics? Did they gain sentience through Aurora's awakening, or just by having incredibly advanced Al? If so, how do they feel about not fitting in both the world of Humans and Omnics? How will their feelings on the matter affect their actions going forwards? This especially goes for Echo, as her existence as both a copy of Mina Liao and her own unique person (similar to Jack-O Valentine) could easily lead to existential dilemmas.

Considering Tracer and Sigma have very similar backstories, and space and time are one and the same, did Tracer hear the melody?If so, did she tell anyone? Has she been hiding it since the accident for whatever reason? Does she know that Sigma experienced the same thing? It'd be fun to see her hear of Sigma's condition and go on a personal mission to free him from Talon (possibly with Sombra's anonymous help)

The conspiracy that Sombra was implied to be unraveling that hasn’t been mentioned since her reveal ages ago

Literally anything relating to Symmetra and Lucio past their initial backstories, because goddamn are they being squandered right now. I’d be stoked to watch/read a solo adventure featuring them discovering the corruption at Vishkar’s core (including their relation to Talon) and teaming up to combat it. Conversely, having Symmetra fall deeper and deeper into Vishkar propaganda and illusion until she’s a member of Talon, still fully believing her actions are for the good of the world, would also be interesting

There’s probably more examples I can think of, but none are coming to mind right now. Anyways fuck Blizzard, play Paladins

I decided to continue drawing some designs for Overwatch 2 characters, I made a Dva acrylic charm last year and really loved it, so here is Symmetra! I probably won't manage to make a design for every single hero, but I'm hoping to have more than a handful done for an April or May shop update :)

Persephone Symmetra and Statue Sojourn!! Symm is inspired by Sicilian flowers and sojourn is a bit of a mix of marble statue and tanagra figurine which I know doesn’t make too much sense but just roll with it
