Preflight Checks
>connection: ok >prc vitals: ok >prc nrvlink: ok >prc syslink: ok >ping: 5ms
“Looks green! Boot ‘er up!”
A blinding light briefly fills your field of view before fading to reveal your surroundings. It doesn’t take long for your mind to adjust to receiving input from ten eyes rather than the standard two. You’ve trained for this, after all. Years of conditioning and several surgeries make this almost second-nature to you.
“Alright, girlie.” The deck chief waves a hand in front of one of your eyes. “Preflight time. Just follow my instructions.”
Right. Preflight checks. Should be easy. “Go ahead and give me a right roll.” Right, okay. You flex your right wrist, putting it in a fully upward position. Your left moves down. “And swap?” You adjust in the opposite direction. You’d go into a left-spinning aileron roll if you were in the air. “Perfect. Airbreak now.” You clench your body, causing the airbreaks to extend. “Alright, great. That seems to be working.”
“Hit the parking break.” Done. as easy as tensing your calves. “Okay, throttle up, slowly.” You breathe in deeply, air entering your intakes. With each exhale, your thruster plume grows until it burns a bright blue. “And disengage.” With a final, deep exhale, your thrust plume dies.
“’Kay, that’s the essentials done. How’dya feel in there?”
You move your right hand to give a thumbs up. Your right aileron extends upward.
“Alrighty then. Let’s get you airborne.” The deck chief pats the nose of the aircraft.
Your nose begins to itch, and you let out an aggravated groan. “Ah, sorry.” The Deck chief doubles back, his pager beeping on his belt. “Force of habit.” He scratches at the nose of the craft, right where he pat it before.
That’s better.

"Who's ready to do something stupid?"
Trevor raised her hand alarmingly fast, Maryam thought, following the gesture with an air of resignation. Eric and Paresh shrugged and raised their hands.
"That's the spirit," Serah said. "Alright Maryam, do something stupid."
Maryam dialed into the general fleetwide sysnet and switched on the VoTS verify mic at on the captain's chair. "A very good day, fleet acting under the MTE Weapons of Mass Destruction ageny. Captain Maryam Patoudi, acting G8, of the Lev Nitoburg."
The crosschatter started almost instantly. Maryam could make out the odd curseword and someone saying, "get that fucking idiot off the air," from other monitors on the bridge while Serah gave her a double thumbs up.
"Under the authority of cental enforcement acting on the strict limitations to The Major Treaty of Eath Civilation, section zero zero one, I am hearby ordering the unauthorized weapon of mass destruction designated Marzanna to cease all operations at once."
Her private fireline already had Vanya Steyr on it, their flat voice vibrating with an incandescent rage Maryam had not suspected Steyr possessed. "Patoudi. You are removed from your position effective immediately. You are to cease broadcasting and surrender to the nearest-"
Maryam closed the fireline. "You should find a processed and vetted data package from central data, documenting the major violations and parties to the violation." In the background chatter she heard Steyr issuing countermands and ordering targeting of the Nitoburg. Her voice remained even as she gestured at the gunner station. "Those of you in command of other fleet ships now have the option to either stand down, or assist in the impounding of the WMD Marzanna. Steyr, this is a final warning to cease hostilities"
"All fleet ships, fire at will on Lev Nicoburg, widen the Marzanna focus to restrain-"
"This was far, far more stupid than I could have imagined," Trevor said, as Maryam cut the air with her hand, and the Lev Nicoburg unloaded the full charge of all three system weapons at the Marzanna focus plates.
"Did it work?" Serah hopped up in her seat.
"Sit down, I do not know and we need to maneuver, very fast now!" Maryam dove into her pilot chair while Trevor redirected their apparent course across multiple different system jumps. "You all must buckle in immediately." The Lev Nitoburg emitted an almost musical series of pings as gravity cut out fully.
Serah yelled, "Score! We got em!" Maryam only had time for a glance as she pushed the local engines to slide the along a momentary lurch from the artificial gravity well, but she could see a visible hole darken the focus plate, spreading cracks along it while red and blue shimmered at all the edges. It trailed fragments and an aura.
Another, smaller hole joined it, and a minute later a fleet ship burst in a glare of ignited oxygen and collapsed system integration.
Maryam kept them spiraling as hard as she could under the sudden burden of inertia, closing a long slow arc to the Charybdis still tucked away against the belly of the Marzanna.
"They're shooting at us!" Paresh sounded almost indignant, shocked. Maryam realized he might have thought her plan was better than it sounded to her.
"Shoot them back!" she yelled, unnecessarily really, and tapped a command for the engines to head them straight on at the Marzanna. A quick glance showed Eric throwing up as Paresh tried to put in a firing solution while hanging onto the gunner console edge.
Trevor said, "we should move to a backup plan now, please." The whole ship violently swung to one side and half the bridge lights died. Maryam slid off her monitor, hauled herself by hand to a cheap plastic keyboard plugged in manually, and tapped in a code. She heard and felt syslink and maglocks let go.
The Lev Nitoburg bridge lurched again and all the lights but emergency biomes died. The local engine noises died. The weird little hum from the floors she always forgot about died. It was easier to hear screaming from the engineering and maintenance crew. A few more distant pops that echoed up the corridors.
Serah was floating gently towards the roof of the bridge, and Maryam couldn't tell how serious the bleeding was with it all being globs and drops. Plenty of it was probably hers, maybe Trevor's. The other woman was loose in her harness, hair lifting around her head. Maryam still clung to the monitors.
"Do you think we won?" asked Paresh.
"If we are lucky," Maryam said, "we might be provided a trail before our execution."
Dead in the aether, all two out of three system engines blown clear off, the local engines little more than sparking wreckage and a couple dead bodies, third system engine charred and blackened against the Lev Nitoburg like a strip of overdone bacon.
But Maryam's light cruiser on its pre-programmed flight, black as space and too small to matter anywhere but the heart of one tired woman clinging to dead keys in the night, the little ship flitted on its way and dove into one of the system drives of the Marzanna.
It blew appart, flew to hundreds of thousands of scraps in the blistering forces that restrained Genghis Khan and the wolf girl. Those pieces of shrapnel tore into the engine, pinpricked holes threw off carefully alligned glass and crystals, cut into powerlines and runic focci.
The little cruiser was a splash of water on a hot stove, it hissed and was gone. But for just a second the stove sizzled, and the engine blinked.

a story by @rox-and-prose and @cipheramnesia
Part 8: Vigil
"I am not prone to long speeches," Vanya Steyr had said, welcoming the incoming new hires to the G1 Major Treaty Enforcement Central orientation day. Maryam had thought they seemed very impressive, perhaps evem dangerous.
"You will learn all the information you need to start your jobs here. You will not learn one right way to do your jobs until you are in the middle of them." They had stood at the front of a sizable auditorium, and had not used any amplification. Maryam remembered even after the subsequent weeks of stultifying bureaucratic form memorization and procedural filing specific to Major Treaties, the departments, grades, fire safety, system safety, and so on.
Years of experience, climbing the ranks, passing pilot exams and system plotting. All of it each time seemed like the most information she could hope to retain, Vanya stuck with her. "When you are doing this work, at all levels," they said, "remember why we have major treaties. They are to protect us, earth and her civilization, wherever we may find ourselves. We protect ourselves from destroying ourselves, because it is our nature."
That was the most of Vany Steyr she had ever seen outside of the odd sysnet photo or short interview up until they took a personal interest in the Charybdis WMD case. Following Steyr's system jumps in the Marzanna, a ship that by what few specs she'd had the chance to glimpse was perhaps hundreds or thousands of times more dangerous than any WMD case she'd worked or reviewed, she worried over "it is our nature."
Maryam had always operated with the consideration that it was in the nature of everyone from earth civilization to protect themselves. This idea had given her comfort and guidance in her cases and the vast organized network of central bureaucracy. The scope of civilization, she sometimes pretended, was possible to see as one vastly extended process to keep its many inhabitants or societies safe. It drove fear and love and hate and hope and all those things.
She knew it was an oversimplification, but it gave her a place to start when she wasn't sure. The one possibility she'd never entertained until now was that Steyr had never meant it was in the nature of civilization to protect itself.
Trevor remained intensely focused in pulling the Lev Nitoburg off the map for the Marzanna's deep spacers. Maryam had no idea what was ever going on with the woman. Serah looked worried, maybe a little bit pale. It had been one thing to figure out Kan was spying for the boss, quite another to decide the boss was violating the most basic rule in civilation, while it happened right in front of their eyes.
Minutes ticked away between the system resolutions. Serah caught Maryam looking and gave a sick smile. She got up and went back to Serah, crouching by her chair. "Serah," she said.
"Hey," Serah said.
"There is no need worry so dearly," Maryam said. "This is the type of case we have all the time. It is nothing, a piece of cake."
"You're awful at lying."
"I am. But you have seen more of the Marzanna specifications than myself. Would you consider it falling within regulations? Would the Lev Nitoburg?"
"No... and... it's pushing it, toeing the letter of the treaty..."
"So it goes," Maryam said. "I only know I am of the belief that we owe it to our civilization to safeguard the treaty against WMD's, even if they are of our own invention."
"You're probably right." Serah looked at her screen. "Did you know that thing can project an artificial stellar gravity well?"
"I had some sense but I did not realize the extent of it."
"It could probably pull some planets apart. Maybe even destroy a sun, if you used it right." Serah's face was grim.
Maryam took one of Serah's hands in two of hers. Serah squeezed. "We are making the right choice." She squeezed back.
"We gotta be. Nothing but the right choice could ever feel this dumb."

Calm down
Times running out.
My experience with a sword like this was limited. With the assassin remaining in range, I slashed through his lower chassis. A large splatter of coolant covered the wall next to him as I raised the sword above me. It might not kill him, but certainly as hell, it would give him a taste of what I am capable of doing if threatened. I thrusted the sword down through his shoulder and left it there. A swift kick to his chest made the message clear.
“We will return… you can count on that.”
“I am sure you will.”
The Captain tapped something on to his wrist-mounted device and soon after the whole squad disappeared from the room, leaving the assassin behind. I quickly placed a system link on his body so I could see through his eyes. Just in time too, his body also followed in the transport.
>Opening SYSLINK… >WARNING: SYSLINK UNSTABLE.
How far did they go after the transport? The view that opened before me was breathtaking, a large hexagon shaped room lined with pods filled with glowing green liquid. The chassis of the assassin was picked up and carried over to one of the pods, then my link lost connection.
I unplugged the battery from my chassis and sat down. The spectral mode disappeared after 3 minutes and I now had new intel on the crimson and could use it against them next time I met them.
“That Assassin is going to be out of the fight for a good while now, but the rest could still take you on before he returns. Let’s keep that in mind and keep our trail hidden.” Valkyrie stated through my internal communications.
“Agreed, I don’t have any more of these syringes, but that worked better than I expected.” I said, going through the maps I had downloaded, comparing them to the location of the liquid nitrogen I had found on the terminal. I got up and secured the jacket over my chassis. It felt familiar; a large hole near the stomach area was patched up with a piece of cloth, matching with pattern already on there. Magazine pouches were stripped away, but the mounting points remained.
The guards who had been there first were all dead, no pulse on anyone and the amount of blood made it clear that if anyone had survived the assault, they would have bled out by now. I searched through their kits and grabbed the tags they had. I struck a knife in the wall and hung the tags from it. The weaponry of the patrol was the usual stuff I had seen around here. Vectors, pistols and an M4 styled AR. I grabbed the AR and magazines, filling up the empty mounts on my coat.
Geared up and ready, I loaded the rifle.
The storage depot was a quiet, open area filled with different containers, boxes and barrels. The power seemed to be low in the area, lights kept flickering on and off and the ventilation stopped for moments at a time before coming back online. I braced the rifle against my shoulder and kept myself ready.
Keep moving, there was a lot of ground to cover. Valkyrie kept an eye on my radar to see if anything was lurking around. I looked through some of the crates near a loading ramp, leading who knows where. Parts reminding me of my own, stacked upon said crates, but none of them were usable. Either missing critical components or just lacking in attachment points. It started to dawn to me that the tent had been set up on top of an existing research site and the outbreak was just them doing one of the “tests”. I wonder how deep this place actually goes…
I got back to the matter at hand and focused on looking around for the nitrogen. This place would go through one hell of a transformation if the temperature fell low enough.
It was a long search, but I found the canisters. A new problem however raised its head, there was no way I could move them alone. A large hall crane loomed above, but finding the controls would take time.
Slow boil, but the result will be good.

Installing Sims on a Different Partition
If you install Sims on a different partition, and would like the The Sims 3 folder to also move, you will have to edit files. This is because Sims is coded to save under C:/../My Documents.
THIS IS THE BEST WAY AND SMART WAY - Move your entire My Documents to the new Partiton:
1. Right click your “My Documents” and select “Properties”:
Tumblr media
2. Go to “Location” and write in the new Location you would like this folder to be (do not copy the above, write it the correct pathway for your PC!). In our case “My Documents” and not “Video.”
THIS WAY IS VERY RISKY - Only to be used if the above method does not work!:
1. Backup!! Syslinks are not meant for folders that are constantly changing and using cmd is not recommended at all if you do not have a lot of knowledge about PCs. So please be aware that this method is not one we recommend, but have posted only if all else fails.
2. Run the command prompt as admin: Windows Button > Windows System > Command Prompt
Tumblr media
3. Write in:
mklink /J "C:\Users\[username]\Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3" "D:\The Sims 3"
You will need to write : mklink /J "[Old Location]” “[New Location]”
You can do this for any folder type, so you can use the old/new location of the Electronic Arts Folder, or the new/old location of My Documents.
If this is successful you may see a weird file in the old location which is the “linker”.
4. You will need to manually move the actual folder to the new location!
