#tagging in case folks have those tags blacklisted as I do on the tumblr account I use for scrolling!

NOTICE as of 2/22/24: i have been posting a lot of Palestine stuff. it's not consistently tagged as Palestine. there is occasional graphic content, and i DO reliably tag that as "graphic tw" / "graphic cw", "graphic description of violence" or in some cases "child death". such content may include body bags and, very rarely, the deceased themselves if not particularly graphic. i reblog this kind of thing to keep some accountability in circulation -- and because we cannot look away. we must be ruffled from our complacency. HOWEVER. please take care of yourself. use a blacklist if you will find this triggering. there are other ways to bear witness. there are abundant resources on my blog and all over tumblr. much love to you, my friends.
uhhh i've been putting this off for like years but. pinned post?
you can call me any of the things people on the internet have through the years. sheyd, tepsul, corv, any of my actual names if we're in the DMs, whatever you like.
about me...?
i don't always tag things consistently. and i talk to myself a LOT in the tags.
i have been on tumblr since 2012ish? i took a hiatus from posting for a few years, but still lurked and managed my archives on my sideblogs. now i'm back! i can't tell who anyone is now, but if we interacted, i still miss you and think of you. (srry tho, i kind of sucked then.)
i work in Book World in various ways. which is to say: the creation of texts, the various stages of production of what will become books, and their distribution. i have to interface with trad pub a lot, but my heart is more oriented towards indie and DIY and small press. working on it! <3
i have multiple sideblogs that may reblog from you. i'm not usually willing to confirm those usernames to you tho because this is my personal anonymous-ish corner of the web! in all honesty, this blog feels less like my main than the others. if i could change it, i would.
i suspect no one who would fit my DNI would even linger here for very long. so i don't really need one. just don't suck, okay? i think we can handle that!! :P and if i follow you or interact and you don't want me there, feel free to block me; you have a right to your space!
about me?? but personal this time
my pronouns are they/them. i'm bi but also... it's complicated. i'm polyam and very sex positive. y'know, ethical slut stuff. i'm seeing a few folks right now. do people care about anything else?...
if you're trans, i love you. thank you. i hope you are pleasantly surprised by something today.
some tags i use a lot:
writing
life stuff
jew tag
trans tag
feelgood
book world
some other tags i'm slowly building:
taking action
the world to come

days now really are just: wake up, make coffee, get basic rights taken away, answer emails, learn new damning information about the coup, have lunch, answer emails, realize there will be no consequence for the coup, work out, answer emails, try to decide if you want to go to that thing this weekend you were going to go to because is it really worth it when cases are so high?, make dinner, read up on the mass shootings you missed that day, go to bed, have more rights taken away in your sleep, wake up, answer emails

My Content & Boundaries
[No need to be alarmed! Nothing has happened to prompt this, I just figured it was about time that I pin a post like this.]
Welcome to my kink blog! This post is here to introduce myself, disclose what type of content that I may reblog or post here (including trigger warnings) and state my boundaries concerning who I want and don’t want interacting with me or my blog.
Intro:
Hi! I’m pudgecuddles! I’ve been here in the community as a lurker since 2018, and finally got around to making this sideblog about 2 years ago under the handle “prettypudgy”. I changed my username slightly after some twitter douchecanoes took screenshots of my content and made threads mocking it.
I am 24 years old and identify as female. Please use she/her pronouns when referring to me. I won’t be mad at all though if you use they/them or he/him, but I’ll probably just gently let you know what I prefer  :)
I am aromantic/asexual, meaning that I do not experience romantic or sexual attraction to people of any gender identity or expression. I still experience aesthetic attraction, and of course enjoy the concept of weight gain as a kink.
Although I am participating in them, I am not looking for RP partners at the moment!
My Content and the Content I Reblog:
Although I do like fluffy and mild WG content (ya’ll who make that type of content are amazing and beautiful and deserve all the love and reblogs in the world), I do enjoy darker and less popular tropes/kinks as well. Up until recently the majority of the stuff I’ve reblogged has been cute and moderate, but I have been working on my own stories and RPs which happen to be on the more intense/darker side.
My content going forward may include topics such as:
Extreme Weight Gain Immobility Mind Break Pet/Pig Play BDSM Humiliation Manipulation Feminization Dub-Con Watersports Eproctophilia Slob Abusive Relationships (it’s not something I enjoy writing, but I may reblog it)
I will always tag specific topics and tropes that may not be for everyone such as immobility or fart kink stuff. And definitely triggering content such as dub-con or degradation. For example, I will tag it as “Immobility”, “cw Immobility” and “tw Immobility”, in case someone has only one tag blacklisted.
Please keep yourself safe! This community is supposed to be a comfortable, creative area where users can curate a homepage of content that matches thier tastes and respects their boundaries. I will not be offended at all if you decide to block me or my written/rendered content. All I ask is if you’re already an acquaintance or mutual of mine that you let me know before you do  :)  You don’t even need to tell me why, I just don’t want to wonder if I made you mad or were ignoring me on purpose.
Zero hard feelings, seriously! The block button is there to protect you!
Boundaries:
Please do not hit on me, or unexpectedly discus sexual topics without me knowing your age and instigating it. It is different if I already know you and am comfortable speaking with you like that.
Yes: Pudgecuddles: Wow that drawing is ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) You, 18+: Wanna see him get bigger? ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
No: Pudgecuddles: Wow! I love your line work! It’s so clean and really compliment’s the shading! You, 18+: Wanna see him get bigger? ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
No: Pudgecuddles: Wow! I love your line work! It’s so clean and really compliment’s the shading! You, 16: Wanna see him get bigger? ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
Yes: Pudgecuddles: Wow! I love your line work! It’s so clean and really compliment’s the shading! You, 16: Thank you so much! ^_^  What do you think about the shape of his hands?
Minors: If you do not have your age, (or at least an 18+ only, or “I am an adult!”) in your bio, I will either ask you for your age or choose not to interact directly with you. This is not a punishment or a personal vendetta. I just do not feel comfortable interacting directly with minors when it comes to NSFW kink content. I am okay with reblogging your content, as supporting those in the community that are still young and exploring their identities in a safe and distant way is very important to me. I am so happy for you that you have found a welcoming and protective space to safely explore your sexuality and discuss your favorite groups. It’s what I wish I had when I was younger.
But I ask that you don’t attempt to private message me or participate in conversations that are sexual in nature.
Bigotry: Do not interact with me, my blog or my content if you do not support all LGBTQ+ identities. This includes but is not limited to: Transgender folk, Bisexuals, Pansexuals, Polysexuals, Omnisexuals, Asexuals, Aromantics and Non-Binary/Agender peeps. TERFs, exclusionists and Battleaxe Bisexuals are not welcome and will be insta-blocked. Same with those that participate in “discourse” on these topics.
If you do not believe that Black Lives Matter or support Donald Trump or any conservative party, politician or policy, please unfollow and block me. They have killed thousands of people and actively lobby against minorities.
This is the only time that I will be political on this blog. I am infinitely more outspoken/advocating on my main, but this sideblog is supposed to be a stress-free, kinky escape from the horrors of reality. I go on my main to reblog petitions, I go on here to reblog erotica.
This does not mean that I do not care, or that I am not an ally or that I enable racists or transphobes. It just means that I recognize that sometimes people get burnt out from constantly being reminded of the policies that harm them, or acts of violence against their race. I want this blog to be an escape, for both myself and my followers.
Hate/Trolling: Hateful or negative comments on me or my friend’s content will get your account blocked. This ranges from “ew” to telling them to kill themselves. This behavior is not tolerable anywhere, and the more extreme comments will be reported to Tumblr staff. Comments saying our content is disgusting will automatically tell me you think it’s hot and are in denial. How very sad. I will dedicate my grossest story to you specifically.
Inter-Community Drama: Mob behavior, brigading, witch hunting, call out posts (vague or by name), vitriolic hate and bullying of any type is something that makes me extremely uncomfortable due to having experienced cyberbullying in the past. Making people deactivate, continuing to attack them after apologies and other related behavior will get you blocked no matter the quality of your content, your standing in the community or our relationship history.
I cannot deal with seeing that behavior and it scares me continuing to interact with those that I learn can so easily turn on their friends like that.
That’s All Folks!

20 Tumblr Confessions
I got tagged by @quantumlevitation howdy.
Rules: Answer the questions you are comfortable with and ignore the ones you are not and tag 8 people to do the same.
1. When did you Join Tumblr, and when did you become active and started posting (broken down in case if different)?
Back in 2013? 2012? I forget when @some-creep told me “Make one loser”
2. Would you reblog your first ever tumblr post after responding to these questions?
... I mean, maybe??? It’ll be very a product of its time.
3. How many blogs do you follow?
420. Because I like the weed number.
4. How do you find blogs to follow; do you explore Tumblr by topic to find interesting ones, pick from the tags of the ones who look interesting, see them on your dash via current followers - or how?
Dashboard. Dashboard and links sent to me by friends because eventually it piles up into 420 just blaze. It will always become 420 Just Blaze.
5. Do you have any other blogs, and if so why and what are they about?
I had an NSFW blog once. Deleted it after the purge because no one really likes looking at me. I’m boring.
6. How often do you change the theme of your blog and how many themes have you gone through overall (as far as you remember)?
I will never not be a blog dedicated to that one time in the Code Veronica comic when Chris fucking uppercutted a god damn HUNTER with righteous fury.
7. Do you customize your themes or apply a theme as is?
Yes? I don’t recall... I just made myself the blog of Chris decking a Hunter.
8. Do you automatically follow back or do you check the blogs of all your new followers or only if they appear interesting?
I check first usually, just to make sure it isn’t a weird spam porn bot... it’s usually a spam porn bot.
9 How many of the blogs you started following within the first few weeks/months of joining Tumblr do you still follow (all, most, some, hardly any)?
Really all of the ones that didn’t delete or stayed.
10. How actively do you use Tumblr’s messaging system?
I’d use it more if I got proper notifications when I got a message.
11. How many drafts do you have currently saved, or do you post/reblog straight away without saving drafts.
I live fast. Anything in my drafts is there so I can go find it again later!
12. Do you use Queue when posting?
It never works anyway so why would I?
13. Do you use XKit, and if so, what are your favourite features in it?
Once upon a time. I forgot though.
14. Do you use tracked tags, and if so, what are your favourite tags you check most frequently.
I do not...
15. Do you use tracked blogs, and if so, how many blogs you track?
What blogs?
16. Do you keep your Tumblr secret from people you know in real life?
I try. Some people found me once.
17. A) Have you ever blocked anyone? B) Do you have anyone blocked currently, and if so, how many?
I block the porn blog bots anymore. Was blocking all Jacksepticeye blogs going through a tag once for a game because it was all Jacksepticeye. Even blocked the Jacksepticeye tumblr account. Same with pewdiepie stuff because I JUST WANTED THE FANART
18. Are you (to the best of your knowledge) being blocked by anyone, and if so, how many, and do you know why?
Probably. Because I’m fucking amazing, and bitches be jealous.
19. Do you use blacklist, and if so, what do you blacklist against?
I did once upon a time, to block those YouTuber tags from being in certain game tags, like Resident Evil, Silent Hill, The Walking Dead TellTale and Wolf Among Us TellTale once upon a time.
20. Have you ever made a RL friend through Tumblr, someone who you have also met in real life?
Nope. No one fucking lives near Indiana because Indiana is a sinkhole of scared MAGA folk and public transit is non-existent.
I tag uhhh... fuckin’..
@viobliterator @hundinfaust @as-sweetasmilk @jojohko  @digital-slime and literally you reading this. Yes I see you, lookin’ ass.

Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
If tumblr’s forcing people to test the beta without giving them a means to turn it off... Now seems like an okay time to bring this back.
I made a cheep, very very basic alternative for RPers. For those who dont want to completely retreat to Discord. Which I have, as of now, affectionately dubbed
                             “BETAESCAPE”
It’s a site members can join to share photos, write short or long posts, reply to other folks, like posts and do all the basic social media functions. It’s a meat and potatoes platform that gives the members a functional website without having to subject themselves to having to move to facebook or twitter or going discord-only.
Pros:
It functions as intended
You can write “Quick posts” with no formatting and no character limit (that I’ve discovered) or you can write “articles” with as much formatting as you want.
Nested/threaded replies that you can add basic formatting to! And you can add pictures to your replies as well.
Members get a profile where you can have an avatar, a header and can write a brief bio/rules/muse list/whatever you like.
You can post pictures, videos and even attach FILES!
You can blacklist!  Instructions are provided on the moderator blog for how to do this.
You can instant message other members. Which includes being able to send files over IMs.
You can tag other members in posts with the @ function
It’s FREE TO JOIN. Some premium functions may cost money and may be lost without donations but creating an account (or multiple) will NEVER cost you a cent.
THERE’S AN APP! Just download the MIGHTY NETWORKS app through your app store and find “betaescape” to access all functions from your mobile device.
Cons:
It is unfortunately not what tumblr used to be. There is no “reblogging” to add comments. You cannot “share” a post at all. Tumblr had a very unique posting system that not many other sites have had and is difficult to recreate. This functions a bit more like Twitter but with the option to make bigger posts. (But if you like or reply to a post it will show up on your activity for your followers to see. So there will be a means to track your replies)
It’s VERY simplistic. No frills. It’s free and made by someone who is NOT a coder. And even if I was, this is not the kind of site builder that really allows for coding. You use what they offer
Image quick posts only allow one image at a time. You can post as many images as you like in an “article” but there are no “photoset” options. But that part of tumblr still works just fine for content creators who make edits. It’s the writing part that this site is intended for.
If you want to blacklist a topic, it must be a topic made by the HOST (me). Unfortunately it’s impossible to give members access to create their own ‘topics’. But if you want a topic to blacklist something, you can message me on that site and ask that I create a topic for people to use so you can blacklist. The standard tagging system isn’t what works on this site.
I currently do not have the premium options that include things like Polls, groups and events. But if a lot of people express interest in joining/USING the site I may consider it. But considering this is really just a “worst case scenario” option, I haven’t yet gotten those features. Because they cost real world money.

Do you have any advice for dealing with people on tumblr who make fun of privileged groups that you belong in? I know the jokes arent directed right at me but my mental illness makes it feel like they are and it triggers thoughts of my trauma with bullying. I know ppl are venting abt oppression and that's ok but I'm finding it hard to sit through shit like "white cishets are gross" every day bc it makes me feel gross, but if i tell someone to tone it down, I know I'll get hate. What should I do?
hey anon,
i do in fact have advice for people who are triggered by jokes of this nature! this is a common feeling i find leads to people who are privileged in certain ways yelling at people who aren’t privileged in the same ways about how their mental illnesses are negatively impacted by this. so using my experience and some other folks, i’m going to put together a nice checklist of things you can do to move on past it.
i’ma call this the just keep swimming approach.
look at the context of the post. is the post DIRECTLY about you? are you doing behaviors listed in the post? or is it just a joke? if the post is mentioning behaviors you engage in and they’re negative/harmful to others you should consider working on changing them then.
if you are not doing the behaviors/and it’s not directed at you then just ignore it. blacklist terms/words/etc that are in the post or you can even just unfollow the folks who put those types of posts on your dashboard: your social media experience is dependent upon your control of it. you follow people who post things you like–like honestly i don’t even follow all my friends across all their social medias cuz they’re my friends and i can talk to them in other ways. in other words i’ve recognized that i don’t need to follow my BFFs tumblr where all she talks about is xyz cuz xyz is triggering to me and so i didn’t and moved on to following folks who don’t make a habit of blogging about xyz.
under no circumstances should you go to someone who is oppressed by an aspect of your identity (aka don’t go to a blogger of color as a white person) and tell them that they can’t blog about the oppressive behaviors and tendencies that all white people benefit from. that’s redirecting the convo to be all about you and your issues and assumes that the person blogging doesn’t have their own issues and such to deal with and can handle yours as well. it’s not fair to them to expect them to do constant emotional labor.
the just keep swimming method is how i manage my online experiences from topics such as fandom wank to mental health issues. i choose when and how i get involved. i have a blacklist a mile long and that’s completely okay cuz i’m not going and trying to control others social media accounts. if they do post something that needs a tag so i can blacklist it (like say, rape) i shoot them a message and they’ll go and tag it. most people on here at least are fine about tagging things in my experience. and if someone’s blogging habits are to never tag anything? i don’t follow them.
tldr: the problem isn’t about how to deal with people making fun of groups you belong it–the issue is in controlling your response to such situations. you cannot control the actions of other people and only can control your own reactions.
so blacklist, unfollow, mute, block even–as long as someone’s not doing something against the TOS (in which case you should report them) please utilize the just keep swimming method.
you are in control of the content you see on your online feeds and disengaging doesn’t make you a bad person--but a smart one, one who actively takes control of their feeds to make it safe for them.
stay safe,
kei

disconnected thoughts on fandom and the indieweb
Recently I discovered the IndieWeb project, and I... think I am a lot more intrigued by it than by other Better Social Media Platform pipe dreams and decentralization projects I’ve seen? Because it’s not a monolithic platform that has to be all things to all people, or even one that has to gain a critical mass of userbase before it’s useful for anything. It’s just a bunch of people, making sites that work for them, and banging out protocols so their sites can talk to each other and hook up to the social-media hangouts du jour.
The basic idea:
- Have a personal website, preferably a personal domain name, that is the hub for your online identity and stuff. Posts, tweets, pictures, links, reading list, events, whatever you’d normally be posting to social media. You host it, you control it, you own it. You tweak it to fit your needs, no Xkit required.
- Once the original archival copy is up on your personal site, cross-post it to whatever social media sites it belongs on. You don’t have to quit your Tumblr habit, or convince your friends to quit theirs, or give up the audience you can reach on a large site.
- Use a pingbacks-on-steroids tool to collect all the responses (likes, reblogs, comments, etc) from the various sites you’ve cross-posted to. Ideally, display them at the bottom of the post back on your website.
As an idea, I like it a lot. In practice, a lot depends on what tools are already available, how useable they are, how capable you are of coding/templating/configuring to fill in the gaps, and how difficult large sites make it to push/pull from them automatically. That’s pretty much what I’m interested in exploring in the near future, for my own use if nothing else. I already have most of my Tumblr content backed up to a Wordpress install on my own shared hosting account, so I’m kinda curious see how much IndieWeb compatibility I can manage using plugins and template tweaks.
Indieweb and fandom:
As a potential tool for fandom to wean ourselves off the various hellsites we’ve inhabited over the years... okay, it’s an interesting thought. One with lots of unanswered questions, but interesting.
Lots of unanswered questions, so the rest of this is going under a cut.
- Upside: I know a lot of older fans are still nostalgic about the early blogosphere and even--heaven forfend--the Geocities days. Many things about them were shit, but the archipelago of personal fan shrines, indie blogs, having a personal site with a personal archive of your work, etc. was awesome. And the “own your own creations” ethos fits in nicely with AO3′s “we have to own the servers” philosophy.
- Enabling factor: Fandom builds and customizes stuff like crazy. Yes, including the younger generations who weren’t around for the “build it yourself” days and seem to think AO3 burst fully formed out of the forehead of a long-lost deity. What, you haven’t noticed that even on a hobbled hellsite like Tumblr, teenagers are using the relative freedom of the theme system to spontaneously rediscover all the sins of Geocities web design? (I rib with affection, as someone who definitely had a page with flaming torch gifs and a sparklecursor back in 2001.) Full, out-of-the-box, point-and-click setup is necessary to get fandom to adopt something in any decent numbers. But once we’re there, a disproportionate number of us start tinkering with anything that’s customizable, and when someone with actual coding skills comes out with a useful tool to supplement missing capabilities, it spreads like wildfire.
- Gaps and directions to expand: Indieweb principles include “scratch your own itches,” so here are my itches, which I’m going to shamelessly project onto fandom at large.
Import--needs rock solid LiveJournal-clone and Tumblr support if your site is to serve as an archive. I don’t know if there even is a working Wordpress plugin to import from LJ or Dreamwidth. The best-supported Tumblr->Wordpress importer is actually better than most standalone Tumblr backup tools, but it still mangles video posts/embeds. It’d also be cool to have import tools for AO3, Deviantart, and other major fanwork repositories.
Once your Tumblr posts are in, there's no way to automate the very first thing I’d want to do upon liberating my data from the vise-like jaws of What Tumblr Wants You To Do With Its Site: separate out posts I created, posts I added comments to, and posts I just shared via reblog. A nice addition would be the ability to copy Tumblr tags to a metadata field that’s separate from Wordpress tags--WP tags tend to be organizational, whereas on Tumblr, tags are often a sidechannel for comments that don’t propagate on reblog, thus filled with all sorts of crap.
On that note, Itch #3 is mass-organization tools. Select all posts that fit certain criteria and do a mass edit on their tags, categories, post types, or other taxonomy data. Lots of fandom folks have years or decades worth of content from various sites, making organizational tasks highly impractical to do manually. I’ve dicked around with a few Wordpress mass-edit plugins, but none of them seemed to work that well.
Not sure how well the existing backfeed tools support Tumblr notes, but for fandom to bite, the Tumblr support oughta be pretty damn slick. And the cross-posting should ideally support all the features of a native Tumblr post, because by god, we will use them, and we will notice if an expected one is missing. I can spot IFTTT cross-posts from AO3 without even reading text, and tbh my eyes usually skip right over them, unfair as that may be.
If this project extends to feed readers/aggregators, the embrace of multi-site cross-posting implies a need for deduplication. Preferably getting rid of Tumblr’s charming “barf the full post back out onto your dashboard every time someone you’re following shares/responds to it” behavior in the process. For fandom use, it’ll need a blacklist feature. And I’d love some more heavy-duty filtering, selective subscriptions (like to just one tag of a blog), creating multiple feeds based on topic or on how much firehose you want...
This may be a personal itch, but at least for personal archiving needs, I’m sick, sick, sick of the recency bias that’s eaten the internet since the first stirrings of Web 2.0. Wikis are practically the only sites that have escaped chronological organization. It would be cool to have easily-manipulated collections with non-kludgey support for series ordering, order-by-popularity, order-by-popularity with a manual bump for posts you want to highlight, hell even alphabetical ordering. None of these things are remotely unsolved problems, but they’re poorly supported on the social-media silos most people’s content lives on these days. Fandom’s suffered from this since at least the days of LiveJournal, which had the ominous beginnings of what’s since become the Tumblr Memory Hole. Relentless chronological ordering + the signal-to-noise ratio of any space with regular social interaction = greatest hits falling down the memory hole unless a community practices extensive manual cataloguing. Hell, LJ fandom did practice extensive manual cataloguing, but even within that silo, there was so much decentralization that content discovery was shit if you didn’t know the right accounts to search through. Like, fuck, at least forums bump threads to the top if they’re still active--LJ and blogs have the same "best conversation evar falls inexorably off the map as new posts are added, no matter how active it is” problem that InsideTheWeb forums did in 1999. (Anyone else remember InsideTheWeb? AKA 13-year-old me’s first experience with platform shutdown, frantic archiving attempts, and massive data loss. Fun times.) Tumblr and Twitter, meanwhile, spam you with duplicates of the original post every time someone you’re following replies to/shares it, a key component of the endless firehose of noise drowning out any attempt to hang on to the signal.
All those itches are things I could probably code myself if I got a stubborn enough bee in my bonnet, which might well happen. On the other hand, I have some deeper doubts, ones that aren’t going to get addressed by Wordpress plugins or shiny backfeed support:
The whole concept of IndieWeb fails to address (and might even worsen) what I suspect is the core dysfunction of social media. Which is the degradation of community spaces, and their replacement with a hopeless snarl where all content lives in individual accounts. There are a lot of weird effects that arise when the “social” sphere is built entirely upon the one-on-one connections created when someone subscribes to another account or gives someone else permission to view their restricted posts. Echo chambers, shame mobs, out-of-context remarks going viral, popular accounts setting off harassment storms whenever they disagree with someone, the difficulty of debunking hoaxes once they’re out in the wild... all of those are either created or made much, much worse by the lack of any reasonable, stable, shared expectation of who a post’s audience is.
Basically, if “own your content and host it on your site” also applies to your comments, interactions, etc, it starts running counter to one of the strengths of the Old Web. Which was community contexts where you explicitly weren’t posting to your own space or addressing everyone who might be looking at the main clearinghouse of all your different stuff. You were posting to the commons shared by a particular group with a particular culture and interests, not all of whom were people you’d necessarily want to follow outside that limited context, some of whom you might disagree with or dislike, but in any case you knew what audience you were broadcasting to. You knew what the conversation was, how similar conversations had gone in the past, and the reputations of all the main participants--not just the ones you yourself would subscribe to and the ones attention-grabbing enough to get shared by the people on your subscription list. And you weren’t spamming all your other acquaintances with chatter on a topic they weren’t interested in.
Shared spaces can also establish whatever social norms they need and moderate accordingly. (Plus, plurality of spaces = plurality of norms for different needs, which would solve a LOT of what’s currently ailing fandom.) Peaceable enforcement of a code of conduct, beyond the “minimum viable standard” sitewide abuse policy, is fundamentally impossible on social media, where individual muting is the closest thing you can get to moderation. That + unstable audience = any social norms that exist are so unenforceable it turns people into frothing shame-mob zealots, ratcheting up the coercive pressure on everyone the more it fails to work on the handful of unrepentant assholes who would’ve been permabanned from any self-respecting forum within a week. Moving onto personal sites with beefed up syndication/backfeed capabilities ain’t gonna fix that. Meanwhile the truly heinous dickweeds who’d ordinarily run afoul of the sitewide abuse policy will have the same capabilities, minus any risk of getting banned.
If there haven’t already been epic drama meltdowns caused by the “reply in your own space by making your own post, which includes a copy of the original post for context” model... it’s only a matter of time. You don’t even need malicious actors, just a human conflict where one party has overprotective subscribers. Or information turns out to be faulty and in need of correction. Or an argumentative type stumbles on the permalink of an acrimonious reply post that was actually resolved amicably several replies downthread. Or someone edits an apology into their controversial post and someone who’s been attacking it refuses to update their copy because tilting at strawmen is more fun. Or someone tries to make an embarrassing post go away by deletion and their co-conversationists don’t cooperate. Tumblr’s “reply by reposting in your own space and adding commentary” system already spawns endless floods of drama and misunderstanding, and that’s a system with some limits on the participants’ control, and relatively disposable accounts/identities if the shit hits the fan.
Basically, I’m all for personal websites as archives of your creations, but seriously dubious of them as archives of your interactions. Especially if the interactions aren’t well-segregated from the regular content feed that goes out to everyone who follows you. Yes, abuses of moderator power when interaction is all taking place on a site the mod controls are a thing. But if those sites are an archipelago of indie spaces rather than a monolithic platform, shitty mods don’t thwart the development of a healthy social ecosystem, they just drive everyone away to a competing space whose mod sucks less.
(Private/access-restricted archives of your interactions might be a compromise? You still have your stuff in case the other site goes down, but it’s not out there replicating the ill effects of the Tumblr reblog-to-respond model.)
Leaving aside all that, the IndieAuth component--using personal sites as stable identities you can log in with--is just as workable for community platforms as it is for cross-blog commenting. Proliferation of unlinkable accounts was one of the downfalls of forums, after all. That said, one potential point of friction is that fandom is far more pseudonym-centric than the devs and tech hobbyists who’ve coalesced around IndieWeb so far. But stable pseuds with years of reputation behind them have social effects that resemble real names more than anything else, so as potential culture clashes go, I’d hope that’s fairly surmountable.
As noted in the musings on LiveJournal archiving above: CONTENT DISCOVERY IS A BITCH IN DECENTRALIZED COMMUNITIES and that’s a major stumbling block for fandom. OTOH, platform-agnostic protocols with customization potential = room for experimentation with independently-run discovery/search/tagging layers. (Life goals: stay uncool enough that my “Like Uber, but for ___” elevator pitch ends up being “It’s like Technorati, but for fanfiction of Kirk drilling Spock.”)
Okay, that’s it, jesus christ it’s time for me to go to bed.

PLEASE DON’T SEND ME “PASS IT ON” MESSAGES !! as sweet as some of they are they can be really annoying. i don’t check my PMs here! if you need to get ahold of me either send me an ask, or email me.
apparently necessary reminder: google exists! i’m not a know-it-all source, honestly i shouldn’t even be your second plan after google unless it’s a question specifically based on me or something relating to me
i try to avoid fandom drama as much as possible and keep a generally positive space, so please don’t come and ask me about stuff like that. thanks.
if you want to commission me please send an email to [email protected]. do not email me through this address if your intentions are purely social and not work related
-what do you use to record and edit your speedpaints?
i use OBS to record, and edit in sony vegas
-what do you use to draw?
huion gt-191 and clip studio paint
-what are your pen settings?
just the default settings. all my custom stuff/things i’ve downloaded from CSP assets are just things i think look neat but probably never end up using.
-a blog called papersans is claiming to be you! are they a thief?
that’s literally me, i use it to archive my art so i can find stuff easier without having to hunt through my tag. also available for people who just want to see my art n not my other posts
-when is your birthday?
february 6th!
-what is your sexuality?
gay. i like men.
-how long does it take you to draw?
idk like. awhile? sometimes 45 minutes sometimes four hours sometimes a week.
-can i draw you/your ocs?
of course! pls show me after it would make me very happy !!!!!
-favourite band/singer/musician?
i don’t know a damn thing about myself here’s a spotify playlist
https://open.spotify.com/playlist/0Zk5o5g7nMnGt0vrJVEcDq?si=7cd248a0b64046ee
-will you do art for cheap/free?
nah. art is currently the only job/income i have, if ur interested in commissioning me you can either find my prices on like, any of my pages, but if not ur more than welcome to email me @ [email protected] and i can give you prices there !! -(venting or something involving abuse, suicidal thoughts, self harm, bullying, eating disorders, or other similar things in real life situations. even in fiction i’m iffy.)
i hate to sound rude or not be of help, but please don’t send these messages to me. they send me into horrible anxiety  for several personal reasons. if you’re having such negative thoughts i implore you to speak to someone you trust without an anonymous mask, or do your best to seek help from a professional. i have my own things to worry about and as much as i’d like to help, i simply can’t.
-(asking for advice that isn’t related to art)
i would love to help but i’m not an ~all knowing source~. i can’t give you tips for school. i can’t give you tips for life. not only will i probably not know a solution for you but there’s likely a chance i’m in just as bad a situation as you/going through the same problem, as silent as i am about my personal life. also don’t use ‘asking for advice’ as an excuse to vent about things or to send me a paragraph describing in depth something listed above/that’s potentially triggering. thank you.
even if you’re looking fr art tips i’m not a great source i’m still learning, ur best bet is looking for already existing sources and reading through those bc i don’t preach the word of Art God. i’m also awful at explaining things
-why didn’t you answer my ask?
Main reason is i’m just really really bad at socializing, so it’s not anything on u. i’m almost always low on energy and when i do talk to people it wears me out really quick. i’m also just. not gr8 at talking in general so if i can’t think of a reply i tend to just leave things n then end up forgetting about them
-how do you draw [blank]?
honestly my art style is such a fucked up thing that’s so personalized to my own use i can’t do or make tutorials. the best i can do is direct you to my youtube.
-can we do an art trade?
sorry, i’ll have to say no. i’m not necessarily busy but i get stressed very easily, so i try to keep my art to either personal stuff or work ! if you would like art from me, please considering commissioning me! mutuals and friends may be the exceptions here if they catch me at a good time or we make plans well ahead to do smth when we’re both free to work on stuff
-can we be friends?
please don’t ask this. i’m awful enough at socialization as is and i just don’t fit well with most personality types. not to mention this is just overall a bad question. it backs the person being asked into a corner where they either have to say “yes” and end up in a friendship that actually isn’t working out and is maybe only good for one side bc they’re getting any and all of the benefits, and if they say “no” they look like a total dick bag and come across as an ass. don’t ask this question. it’s not how socializing works. it’s not how friendships work. thanks. -can you tag [blank]? unfortunately i’ve been a real bad place in terms of memory so i can’t tag tons and tons of things. i try and tag more general/basic things but i’m sorry i’ll have to pass on specifics. if i post or reblog things that trigger u or harm you it might be best to unfollow for ur own safety!! very sorry
if it’s specific words you’d like tagged please consider blacklisting the word itself.
-how tall are you?
i’m 5'11".
-can you promo me?
i’d rather not, doesn’t sit well with me. if you have a commission post you want me to reblog i’m happy to! but i won’t just do text based handouts, y’know? not a fan of being used for visibility for no reason, and chances are if i do it for one person it’ll happen with hundreds of others and i don’t want my blog to turn into a free advertisement zone that just floods peoples’ feeds with promotions.
-you reblogged something from someone extremely problematic/unsafe
thank you for letting me know! tell me what it is they did, even better offer proof on it. i’ll likely delete the post and blacklist their url to hopefully prevent their name popping up on my blog in the future. i won’t publish these asks mostly to avoid discourse or in the event false information is provided. sorta just safety precaution i guess
-you’ve done something bad
again, thank you for letting me know! if i post or say something questionable please feel free to message me and i’ll try my best to address the issue and adjust accordingly. i’m aiming to grow as a person so critique is welcome, both on me and my artwork. don’t just come up and call me an asshole or a prick or something, actually point out the errors and explain why they’re wrong so i can better understand and it doesn’t just turn into a defensive round of who’s worse, because i tend to be a very defensive person.
-i think someone is stealing/reposting your art!
thank you very much for telling me! don’t message them right off the bat, come to me first and i will deal with it. i’ve dealt with this shit tons of times and it’s tiring as fuck but i’d rather repeat the same stupid civil message over and over again than start a giant calamity over something and end up with someone getting hurt. if you do get involved please stay polite about it don’t throw insults just a simple “hey this art was done by princeofmints/tv-headache/zachary jack/dirtypip/(etc my other account names) and he doesn’t want his art reposted, please take this down or add proper credit.”
-can i use your art as an icon?
sure man. only on places like instagram, tumblr, or twitter though, and proper credit in an easy to see place must be given. if a piece of art is of my ocs or especially vent art though never use it for icons. thank you.
-can i repost your art?
the answer is “no” but i know you’re going to do it anyways. easy to see credit is mandatory. if you see somebody reposting my art please let me know and i’ll talk to them. if you want to use my art in things like image edits, i don’t allow that. want to use my art in a video? if it’s something like an AMV sure fine just credit me and inform me beforehand, if it’s something like a cringe/comparison video. no. i don’t want any association with work like that whatsoever. you may not use my artwork for fanfic covers.
-can i colour/finish one of your sketches?
no. even if you don’t intend on posting it.
-what is [insert some form of media/fandom]
https://www.google.ca/
-why do you have an entirely separate blog for your FAQ? you know you can make blog pages, right?
i’m well aware of that and originally my faq WAS set up on a blog page, but unfortunately many folks proved to be either lazy or just couldn’t figure out how to get to a blog page on mobile so i had to set it up this way for accessibility purposes.
-tons of your videos are gone, what happened to them? will they come back? can you repost them?
i set old videos on private for my own sake, i don’t like having my old content available bc it just looks old and stale and i don’t like it. there’s nothing deep about it, i just don’t want people interacting with my old stuff. as deep is it gets is i just deleted videos related to fandoms i’m sick of bc the association is fuckin annoying. these videos will not come back into public. i do keep them posted for my own reflection sake, but that’s it. don’t ask me to bring them back. don’t whine about me not putting shit back out just bc ur a little sad n gonna cry. guilting people is gross, reevaluate yourself.
if you want a song from an old video, just ask me! I’ll happily let you know what the music is in case u liked ‘em and can’t remember the titles or artists. i’ve also got a playlist full of the music i listen to so u can comb through there n see if the songs u want are there
