Bought two Taiyaki Ice Cream Uji Matcha and one Taiyaki Ice Cream Vanilla from Chateraise. The vanilla one comes with adzuki bean paste while the green tea one has a layer of brown sugar syrup flavoured bean paste instead. Both flavours are equally yummy other than the fish (waffle) not being crispy. But I am not complaining, as these frozen confection cost a wallet friendly S$1.80 each.

Taiyaki Ice Cream . . . I had one of these in Little Tokyo a while back, but the store wasn’t there anymore when I went back in 2019.

Taiyaki

Taiyaki, Tai for short, likes sweet things and pastels, and is always up to try new things. Her tolerance for heat and spicy food are pretty low, but she'll give anything a chance once.

She loves fashion and accessories; any accessories she wears, she made herself. Design is a passion and she likes putting together new looks — her friends get pulled in to try out any less feminine, less pastel looks she puts together.

She also knows a couple hundred fun facts about Red Sea Bream that she'll bring up if there's ever an awkward silence or need to quickly change the topic.

I designed Taiyaki after @ravenatural told us about GDA! I thought it'd be fun to make a dessert oc, and wanted to try something a little different from my usual vibe. Taiyaki is definitely the girliest oc I have now — she's also the first humanoid oc I've designed.

The "red sea bream" thing is a joke since Taiyaki (the actual food) is shaped like red sea bream (the fish).

I think that I’ve been avoiding the SomiSomi in Little Tokyo out of respect for the Pinkberry that they replaced. However, it was nice to see Pinkberry’s soft serve machines are still there and the décor and layout still remind me of Pinkberry. The pebble floors, wood benches, and counter are leftover from Pinkberry and the exterior design still looks the same, only they changed the color and signs.

SomiSomi specializes in taiyaki ice cream (ah-boong). You pick your soft serve ice cream flavor (matcha, cookies n’ cream, ube, milk, cookie butter, red bean, or 2 flavor swirl), the filling (red bean, taro, Nutella, or custard), and toppings for $6.95. The price includes toppings (sprinkles, toasted coconut, Biscoff crumble, cinnamon pebbles, Cocoa Pebbles, Fruity Pebbles, Oreo crumbs or graham cracker crumbs. You can opt to get the soft serve in a cup ($4.50). You can also get taiyaki (fish-shaped filled waffles) and drinks.

The strange thing about the swirls is that you can’t get any combination of flavors. They’ll only let you get two flavors if they’re side by side in the same machine. I also noticed that the soft serve is lactose-free, except for the milk flavor.

They were making the taiyaki cones to order. The cones need to cool a little before they add soft serve.

* Red bean soft serve, red bean filling inside the taiyaki, Biscoff crumble: You get a lot for $6.95, like two desserts – the taiyaki with filling and a lot of soft serve ice cream. The waffle was really good. It’s crispy on the outside but has a wonderful chewiness to it too (like a mochi waffle). It didn’t get soggy and the red bean filling was chunky and not too sweet. The ice cream was super thick, creamy, smooth, and dense. I liked how it wasn’t that sweet. The red flavor was very strong and tasted natural.

They have super cute SomiSomi spoons. I want to collect them all.
