Instead of throwing herself into misery, @lanaparrilla decided to emerge as a queen. On her new path, she has taken a break to get to know herself and focus on issues that she is passionate about, such as children.“Children don't have a voice the same as adults do. I love to work with children who either come from broken homes or have gone through some sort of abuse in their life because when you believe in a child and you let them know that they are seen and accepted for who they are, they will soar,” she says.

Along with the cast of Once Upon A Time, she raised $35,000 for the Children's Hospital of Orange County. She has also worked for NYC Together, a non-profit organization that seeks to reduce violence on the streets and give opportunities to youth in her home in Crown Heights, NY.

She also uses her social media account to raise awareness on a variety of issues. One of her projects is to promote the vote in collaboration with former First Lady Michelle Obama. In fact, she has previously worked with Obama to inspire young people to pursue a college education. Through her platform, she managed to get 25,000 children to enroll in college.

The centerpiece of the GOP plan is a move to lower the corporate tax rate from 35 percent to 20 percent, starting in 2019. [...] And the bill makes other changes that reach far beyond the tax code itself. It repeals the individual mandate from the Affordable Care Act, a major change that was added in recent weeks as part of a broader GOP effort to dismantle the Obama-era law. The individual mandate creates penalties for many Americans who do not have health insurance, but the repeal would leave 13 million more people uninsured. It authorizes oil drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge in Alaska. And by curtailing deductions for state and local taxes, it will put pressure on some state and local spending on education, transportation and public health programs.

The tax package still must clear a couple more hurdles before it can become law. There are numerous differences between the House and Senate versions, ranging from when certain tax cuts expire to how the estate tax is handled, and though none are seen as showstoppers, complications could arise. There will be major implications for the taxes paid by families and individuals based on how those discussions go. And the negotiations over the tax bill will proceed as Congress simultaneously faces a Dec. 8 deadline for government funding to expire.Nonetheless, GOP leaders still aim to get a final bill on Trump’s desk before Christmas.

This has to go back to the House for approval of the revised version, and that is happening in the next couple of weeks.  Guys, I know this is a lousy time of year to have to be calling and yelling at your reps.  That’s exactly why they’re doing this now - they want their constituents too busy and exhausted from holiday preparations to object.  Don’t give them that.  This looks pretty grim but we can still fight - because it looks grim, it’s all the more important that we do.

Vivian Deboo will serve more than 6 years behind bars after losing his bid to serve his time in home detention. Congratulations to the brave brothers who fought so hard for this sentence ! Vivian Fredrick Deboo, 74, was arrested in December 2016, but waited until the day before his District Court trial to finally plead guilty to multiple counts of indecent assault and gross indecency. Under new laws introduced in NSW, this would not result in a reduction in his sentencing, if it occurred in NSW. These laws must be made nationwide, too many offenders use this ploy to put their survivors through as much stress as possible and yet still receive a deduction in their sentence for pleading guilty. We should not be rewarding them for this behaviour. The court heard Deboo was a respected member of a South Australian church, (WAS being the operative word there), when he groomed two young brothers and forced himself onto them at locations in the Adelaide Hills and on the Fleurieu Peninsula in the 1990s. His survivors and a large group of their supporters packed the courtroom for his sentencing, with permission granted for them to fill the seats usually reserved for jurors. They clapped and cheered as Judge Simon Stretton refused to grant Deboo home detention and instead imposed a non-parole period of five years and three months. "The only sentence that can justifiably condemn these acts is a life sentence, however, in the judicial climate we are in we are very satisfied with Judge Stretton's remarks and his sentence," he said. "We feel it does bring some justice and some closure to the horrendous atrocities that this man has inflicted against his victims". “My brother and I have suffered immeasurably through this court system because this monster has refused to admit his guilt and he has dragged us to hell and back. "Today we stand united that justice has finally fallen upon Deboo's head."- We at FACAA wish to wholeheartedly applaud these two brothers and their supporters. It was so awesome to read about supporters showing up for the right side of the fight to end child abuse. Well done one and all, but especially to the two brothers who have fought so hard for this decision.
