Day 22
"I failed my sworn commitment on that fateful day in Doma, Lady Daigo. The people moved on, and they can look after themselves now. I will continue to aid those in need, but the life of Tamamo Gozen is best consigned to legend."

Hina’s Character Roll
Updated 21 Nov 2022
Names are presented alphabetically.
ARYA JHAVERI
(she/her) A denizen of Thavnair's jungles, where her tribe came to settle years prior to distance themselves from the Empire. She grew to assume the status of vice captain of the town guard, deftly wielding an alchemically-imbued spear - her efforts to protect the people during the Final Days earning her recognition. Arya acts as a more rational counterbalance to her fiery twin Anisha, who she cares for deeply.
EJI [of the] TORGUD
(blog/carrd)
(she/her) A passionate Xaela from a line of astromancers in her tribe; a dream of falling stars allowed her leave from her lifelong home of the Nhaama Desert. She often makes ends meet through performing, fortune telling and offering jewelry as cherished by her people. Eji is an amiable, charming individual whose ways may be considered eclectic and... somewhat flustering to outsiders, and she knows it.
HINAKO DAIGO
(blog/carrd)
(she/her) A Raen priestess who had served as the young master of her shrine (kannushi), she is well versed and at home with the esoteric and otherworldly. After she and her countrymen were forced to flee their Yanxian village and the Empire, she has since traveled far and wide to carry on the spirit of her work - at odds with man and monster alike. Hinako is known to be consistently genial with a warm aura.
MISUZU KURENAI
(they/he/she) While held captive by trafficking brigands, it is said he had awoken a new power within him after coming in contact with the crystallized head of an oni. It had been owned by none other than the Daigo clan of Hingashi, who rescued, subsequently took in and raised the young Miqo’te. Kurenai has grown to be a distinguished member and an adept fighter; He tends to live life one step at a time when not directly representing the clan in Kugane.
RHOYA SONATA
(she/her) A mixed-clan Miqo’te was once but a street rat in Ul’dah who attempted to steal from a foreign scholar. The scholar offered a way out and adopted her, taking her back to Old Sharlayan. There she got an education and took the reins on her life, becoming an archaeologist and explorer with a keen eye for ruins, inspired by early wanderings in the Sil’dihn subterrane. She is also a big fan of contemporary fashion trends.
TAMAMO GOZEN (Mikuzume)
(she/her) A NPC character: The legendary fox Tamamo Gozen is part of great many a tale in Yanxian folklore, among them the story of their bond with the king Shoen. Her devotion to Doma’s people thenceforth came to a head in her act of defiance against the Empire; For better or worse, “Mikuzume” was reborn that day, bereft of many a memory. After crisis was averted following a more recent altercation with onmyoji, the woman has been trying to find new meaning in life.
VISION ONE (Kharaa [of the] Khatayin)
(carrd)
(they/she/any) Near the twilight of the Allagan Empire, Vision One was the first in a culmination of a thousand years’ research and the boon of Omega: Highly advanced, highly adaptive synthetic life. The android only relatively recently entered the stage once again after their discovery in Azys Lla. As Kharaa, she has been working to come to terms with Allag’s complicated legacy and also her own personal identity.

"Choose 5 Servants to represent your FGO journey."
Inspired by this Reddit post
Emiya - My first 4-star from the tutorial gacha. He currently rests at NP3. I may not use him all the time, but he's reliable. His defense-ignoring NP is awesome for challenge quests even to this day!
Shuten-Douji - My first 5-star. I didn't even realize she was a 5-star when I first summoned her, but when I did, I was incredibly excited! Koyanskaya of Light may have taken my top Assassin spot lately, but Shuten is still great.
David - One of my top Servants back when I didn't have as many options. Harp of Healing saved me tons of times back in Arc 1, and the Sure Hit on his NP definitely helped with damage!
Scáthach-Skađi - My first foray into meta setups. I only rolled for her because I liked her design, but her being the Quick meta was an appreciated bonus. I may have Castoria, Tamamo, Oberon, and Koyanskaya now, but Skađi still has a place in my support roster for when I'd rather use Quick Servants.
Passionlip - I got her to NP5 (and Suzuka Gozen to NP6) in the process of trying to summon Meltryllis. I did get Melt and absolutely adore her, but I also came to really appreciate Lip. She's a great tank who can also dish out a surprising amount of damage, and she's a fairly complex character. This same summon/appreciate cycle happened to me with Space Ishtar (NP2'd her while trying to summon Calamity Jane) and Baobhan Sith (NP3'd her while trying to summon Barghest and Mélusine), but Passionlip was the first, so she gets the spot on the list.
Man, this was tough! Nitocris didn't even land on the list after all this consideration, and she's my favorite!
What about you guys? If you play FGO, which five Servants reflect your gameplay journey?

Shenanigans in the Grand Order, part 653
Suzuka Gozen's second interlude
Wait, Romani? Didn't Suzuka appear after Part 1? (Yes)
Hmmmm.
Tamamo, if you're here to get me to go through your second interlude, you'll have to wait a while.
Just because two people are from the same country, that isn't a guarantee that they'll get along, Romani. :U
Well, she peer-pressured a fellow kitsune to take up a bat motive...
A challenger approaches!
To be fair, I don't know what's usually going on either.

Uragirimono - [ FFXIV Reward ]
One of my favourite pieces this year.
The brief I got for this was described as an an asahi garlean who eventually fled to Eorzea and clung to her Doman heritage so she wouldn't be persecuted for being an Imperial.
So with that info, I decided to emphasise this duality, giving her the fur of Tamamo Gozen, Doma's guardian auspice, and a dark hand/claw covering her face as a sign of her garlean allegiance and split loyalties.
Pssst, this is a type of reward you can get over at...

How high are the chances that Ōtakemaru (大嶽丸) will appear in the Touhou Project? He is one of the original three greatest yokai in Japan. Kishin (鬼神) has already been introduced in the Wild and Horned Hermit manga, with Suiki (水鬼) as one of them, though I also hope for more of Fujiawara Chikata's Onis in the series.
I don’t have any uncles or other relatives customarily said to relay such info working for Team Shanghai Alice so I couldn’t in good faith claim I have any real idea what are the odds that ZUN will base a character on him.
As for whether I think it would work, you can find out under the cut.
Before Urumi no oni actually shown in the games was based on anyone other than Shuten Dōji’s underlings but it seems safe to say nothing’s off limits now, between her and Zanmu, whose counterpart wasn’t even regarded as an oni (at best you could make a case for tengu since Razan Hayashi considered his Buddhist opponents tengu and this category sort of kind of includes Zanmu since he’s mentioned in one of his tirades against Tenkai).
ZUN’s definition of kishin is basically made up, so I am not sure if it has any impact on who might plausibly show up. There is a real term for oni and oni-adjacent figures shown in scenes of hell, kisotsu (鬼卒) or gokusotsu (獄卒), but I don’t really see much overlap in use with kishin, which is ultimately a label I’ve actually mostly seen in onmyōdō context.
Also, the concept of “three greatest yokai” is an entirely modern invention. On top of that, Kazuhiko Komatsu coined it entirely based on the fact that the three stories whose antagonists he refers to with this moniker end with their remains placed in the treasure house of Uji. I’m not sure where the similar grouping with Sutoku listed instead of Ōtakemaru alongside Tamamo no Mae and Shuten Dōji originates, but I find it to be more representative, both because it makes the group into a genuine quintessence of all major medieval fears, and because there is a solid case to be made that these three are the big names with the most reinterpretations.
I have nothing against Ōtakemaru, but his historical popularity seems more limited. He’s somewhere between Kidōmaru and completely z listers like idk. Kugamimi no Mikasa in terms of notoriety and I feel like you could make a case for the likes of Zegaibō, Tarōbō or even Tesso over him as “greatest yokai” and whatnot.
Perhaps an argument can be made that Ōtakemaru’s relative lack of actual notoriety makes him more suitable for Touhou. That’s a point I can’t refute. However, in practical terms, I am not sure what a character based on him would offer that Suika couldn’t do better - all that sets him apart from just being a budget Shuten Dōji is the location he lived in and his opponent, and neither of these would really matter in Touhou most likely. Tbh I’m not even sure if there’s any real benefit to going with Ōtakemaru over Suzuka Gozen, frankly. Not even being the character with most potential in own story seems like a problem.
As far as other oni go, I’m not sure if I’d go with Fujiwara no Chikata’s minions either, they are pretty bland themselves; they work well in Megaten but that’s about it. Not like Suiki is a character in the proper sense in Touhou - I’ve seen people not even realizing this is a given name and I can't blame them.
As far as oni who would be fun to see go, Momiji instantly comes to mind (the story is even set in the right province lol), but there are many good candidates. Off the top of my head: the oni Ki no Haseo encountered (I feel like you could do a lot with the body parts patchwork woman from that story. Dr. Frankenstein themed oni?), the oni of Rashomon version from the Minamoto no Hiromasa legend which makes him a reincarnation of a master craftsman from India, or Abe no Nakamaro (my personal favorite, I have a character based on him).

What are the exact name ofthose Buddha statues Iori made you posted? Besides the Boss one
The Earth statue is Bishamonten, one of the Seven Lucky Gods of Japan. Aside from Ebisu, who is a purified Hiruko, all of the Seven Lucky Gods are regional variants of gods imported from China and India. Bishamonten specifically is Kuvera, a Hindu wealth god who was promoted to a Buddhist guardian deva (Buddhist name: Vaisravana). Notorious avatars of Kuvera include Li Jing (Nezha's father, avatar status canon to Type-Moon Pan-Human History), Sakanoue no Tamuramaro (Suzuka Gozen's husband, avatar status unclear in Type-Moon), and Uesugi Kenshin (Nagao Kagetora, avatar status maybe exclusive to Gudaguda).
The Water statue is Maha Vairocana, the most central and most perfected entity in Mahayana Buddhism. The Buddha above all Buddhas and Bodhisattvas, so to speak. In 752, Emperor Shoumu established that Maha Vairocana is the Buddha form of sun goddess Amaterasu, a belief established as canon to Type-Moon. Amaterasu/Vairocana shows her actual face in Tamamo's route of CCC, so she's the only one in the post where I put a picture of the actual Buddha instead of an avatar.
The Wind statue is a Bodhisattva known by the Japanese name Kanzeon (frequently shortened to Kannon) or the Sanscrit name Avalokitesvara, but certainly more popular by the Chinese name Guanyin thanks to their recurring presence in China's mythological epics. They're featured in The Investiture of the Gods as one of the Xians who completed their studies under Yuanshi Tianzun, and later they appear in Journey to the West as the Bodhisattva who sent Xuanzang on his journey and pretty much always the first one they call for help when they need intervention from a higher force. They're widely known for being a shapeshifter, resulting in many variants of statues of them both in masculine and feminine forms. During the ban on Christianity in Japan, the Christians got away with having Virgin Mary statues by establishing Mary's image as one of the many transformations of Kanzeon. Bodhisattva Kanzeon is the main object of worship of the Yoshinaka Temple, which is why both he and Tomoe have Avalokitesvara's sutra as their NP name. Surprisingly enough, Guanyin has yet to make any significant appearance in Fate/, so I went with Yoshinaka's armor as their image because the Yoshinaka Temple association comes with the strong implication that his armor is a treasure modeled after Kanzeon's image.
The Fire statue is Acala, more known by his Japanese name, Fudou Myou-ou. You may know him as the big angry Stand from Musashi's Noble Phantasm. Acala is a really minor Wisdom King in the original Indo-Buddhist side of things, but for some reason, he's immensely popular in Japan. The main story he's featured in is the story of how Sidharta Gautama became The Buddha. The most popular version of it is that Mara appeared to impede Gautama's enlightenment, but ultimately was driven away inside him Mara found the angry face of Acala, the Buddha's demon-conquering form. That's the version I'm more familiar with, so I would prefer using Extra's Buddha as Fudou Myou-ou's image, but another version says that Acala was either a messenger sent by Vairocana to ensure Gautama's enlightenment or Vairocana's own demon-conquering form. And Musashi's materials associate Fudou with Shiva (never heard of this connection before), so for canon compliance, I had to go with Shiva('s avatar Asvattaman).
And the Void statue is the Thousand-Armed Guanyin. It's a transformation where Guanyin copies the 1000 arms of Vishnu to reach out and save the biggest possible number of sentient beings in all worlds. I could use Yoshinaka again since that's another Guanyin, but I went with Vishnu('s avatar Rama) since this form is essentially Guanyin transformed into Vishnu. I also considered photoshopping 40 extra pairs of arms into Rama but I'm lazy and the pose in his card really doesn't help anyone trying to multiply his arm.
