#Catherinette can still become synonymous with Lesbian#also I need to know what you've discovered in regards to Saint Nick and Saint Catherine#are there any connections????? via @shitpostingfromthebarricade
I really want to be a catherinette. But I guess I'd have to become catholic first and tbh I've been to church (for certain family events) unbaptized a couple of times and it's super funny cause the priest always talks like everyone there is baptized and I feel like a spy. It's great and I don't wanna lose that
Also I hate the catholic church but I will admit they did kinda go off with the saints. I love saints and I wish they had nothing to do with catholicism. Saint Catherine (of Alexandria, not to be confused with st Catherine of Siena) specifically I recommend people look up because she's awesome, although the historical figure probably didn't exist the story itself is great, and as far as saints go she probably had a big following given how many things she is the patron saint of. The wheel? Children? Unmarried women? I wanted to know if she had anything to do with Fantine or Cosette or parallels but as far as I can tell, not really? She is known as a great scholar who is pure and also incredibly good at rhetoric. So she was the one probably in charge of protecting Cosette and Fantine, and that's it as far as I can tell.
The thing about Saint Nick and Valjean: I think it's clear that Valjean has a lot of catholic associations with jesus and etc but the fact that he meets cosette on christmas, and when he was mayor he broke into people's houses to leave them money and was an unmarried recluse, who was generally beloved by all, and made dolls for children and gave coins away to all the little boys who he met. Leaving a coin in Cosette's shoe. That's all Saint Nicholas. And in my research to find out more about the Saint Catherine feast I discovered there are some events that merge the two together and call it 'the feast of Catherine and Nicholas' and they allow unmarried young men to wear silly hats as well. Also in all the photos in color I found the hats were yellow and green, just to make it clear. Idk if this is a Thing or if it was just that one event that did that.
So no, I don't think it's a coincidence that Cosette leaves Montfermeuil with Catherine in one hand and Saint Nicholas on the other. They're the saint of unmarried men and the saint of unmarried women and girls, and they are definitely widespread enough that any catholics reading the book would probably see that right away in 1862, these are some of the most popular saints there are.
Ok last thing, St Catherine is the patron saint of: Unmarried girls; apologists; craftsmen who work with a wheel (potters, spinners); archivists; dying people; educators; girls; jurists; knife sharpeners; lawyers; librarians; libraries; maidens; mechanics; millers; milliners; nurses; philosophers; preachers; scholars; schoolchildren; scribes; secretaries; spinsters; stenographers; students; tanners; theologians; University of Paris; haberdashers; wheelwrights; a couple of colleges and a lot of places in the Philippines, Brazil, Malta, Germany etc you get the idea

hello, lauren! a little behind in sending, but they do say better late than never right? oops, i forgot to say who i am, i'm your secret santa! i hope you had a wonderful saturday and your sunday is great, too! can you tell me a bit about some of your favorite muses and face claims? ❄️
that's okay, being behind is the name of my game ksksdfjjf im always a little slow. but aaa yay!! i'm so excited!!
so i think my ultimate favorite muse/muse i've had for the longest time is (erika linder, she/they, nonbinary lesbian, 28) JULES HELLSTRÖM (which she doesn't really have a lot in her tag tbh but anyway) she's fucking RUTHLESS when she needs to be, will always stand up for good and justice, so honestly she never backs down and is always ready to throw a punch. HOWEVER, within this load of anger she has, it's truly because inside she is v soft and caring, always trying to help others, protect others, and do good where she can. specifically to other women and nonbinary people. continued under cut!!
she's a big angry lesbian who is v loud about the things she cares about, v much an activist and hates rich people and hates men tbh im ngl. she's definitely the "scary hairy lesbian" that hates all men that Those All MenTM warn you about LMAO. she is by and large a moon child. like seriously i based her off of artemis kskskdjflskjdf. she lives for the night and never wakes up earlier than 3pm tbh. she kind of has two occupations, it just depends where i'm playing her that decides which one i use. her og occupation is a wildlife officer, because (artemis, really) she loves animals and respects the hunt, and wants to ensure others are respecting nature as well. on the other hand, she owns a whole ass bar, not because she's like wealthy, but her uncle leaves town and passes it down to her and she's like wTF?! i'll end this here but i could talk about her for awhile, i love her! also i just noticed i used she pronouns this whole time, but i want to end this by saying jules's preference for pronouns changes by the day lol. some days it's a they-only day, some days she's like yeah... yeah you can call me she, that feels nice. LOL idk
i don't know if i have any other specific muses to share that i can think of at the moment, but here's some of my favorite faceclaims!! (i rly only had a few like FAVORITES so i bolded those, and the rest are some that i've always wanted to play or just think are neat!)
im so sorry i didn't know how long or short to go so i just ksskdfjsldkfj but again i bolded the real og's

Tumblr media
So this week I got Annoyed™ at Kara-Meir and Garlandia’s designs (Partially due to @enkoro-rs suggesting I do Kara-Meir, after which I fell down a rabbit hole). Like with the Laniakea overhaul I’m going to put my reasoning/inspo under the cut for anyone that’s interested
Honestly, where do I even start with Kara-Meir? I guess I’ll just go top-down,
1) Hair - Based on the novel covers it seems like she was supposed to be blonde originally, and just have an absolute shit ton of hair. Since the flow of the in-game design’s braids didn’t make no goddamn sense, I found some ACTUAL braided bun hairstyles and combowombo’d them into one mega hairstyle.  The pins in the buns with the danglies are really just to be fancy, but I also wanted to incorporate the bits hanging off her belt in her in-game model’s concept art.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
pictured: whatever the fuck these are supposed to be
Tumblr media
2) Skin/Face/Eyes - So originally I actually colour dropper her skin from the concept art and then realized she was maybe a bit tanner than the concept, but you know what? Fuck it. I tried to keep her face shape from the concept since the cover art of her is just kinda “Generic white lady” but honestly she got a bit pointier than that in the end. I’m also not sure what her canon eye colour is supposed to be; Zooming in on the ref just gave me brown, which is what I ended up using, but if that’s not correct and anyone has the novels let me know.
3) Clothing - So I restrained her cape to something someone could maybe fight in, but my main concern was her armor - She’s supposed to be a knight but what’s up with the bikini boob breast plate? She’s portrayed as wearing both chain and full plate in the cover art and is clearly a melee fighter, so changing her to plate armor seemed obvious. Since she can wield Sunspear (t75) it makes sense to me that her Def would be somewhere in the 70s to match, which with the rework means necronium.
Tumblr media
So like, obviously Necronium is a particular aesthetic that didn’t seem quite right for her. Looking at her lore, she has a wolf theme in her backstory and since she's also supposed to have some smithing ability (she was raised by dwarves) I thought it'd make sense that she might make her own. She’s also been to Morytania in the books, meaning she could have access to Phasmatite (Her access to the Necrite is a bit more iffy but she is hanging out on Tuska after that event so she has at least some experience with the desert).  I had tried out the red glow initially but it looked like shite and didn’t really fit her anyway, so I think the gold is a better compromise both character-wise and aesthetically.
4) Sunspear - So she canonically has a sunspear, and I ended up using the current in-game design for it since her concept art one just seemed... unstable
Tumblr media
I get that it’s reforged or whatever but it looks like it’s gonna shatter on impact with anything
Truthfully, though? You know what she should have? One of THESE bad boys:
Tumblr media
AKA just a Grecian-style spear head. It’d also be more believable that she thinks it’s a dagger if it looks like this. I still think the in-game sunspear is a bit more ~dramatic~ but it should just be a spear tip quite frankly
Okay, onto Garlandia:
1) Hair/Face/Skin/Eyes - I’m grouping the hair in here since I honestly just left it as the in-game version (At least from what I can see from her chat head, I can’t remember if there’s some BS going on on her back or not).  Ancient Greek women did tend to braid their hair so that’s accurate-ish, I guess. For her skin though, she mentions in dialogue that “Her skin shed its colour”, but her model isn’t any paler than the other icyene in game. Accordingly, I made her significantly paler, and gave her a bit of frost bite damage on her extremities from the winter she had to endure after her wings were ripped off (I considered making it darker but there’s a point where they just need to be amputated since it won’t heal, so I went with something less intense to show that it’s healed since). For her eye colour, I zoomed in on her chat head but it wasn’t quite clear - 2/4 icyene in-game have blue eyes, but I went with gold to match the rest of her pallet.
2) Clothes - This is a big one since I spent a lot of time staring at Greek art trying to figure out what a Greek-inspired character would wear when they never want to be cold ever again (It would make sense for her due to the trauma). Additionally, her skin is kinda fucked, and having it be uncovered would probably just lead to sunburn which is the last thing she needs. The shape of the middle woman’s chiton below inspired the hem of her dress, since I wanted to give her a very flowing, fashionable look:
Tumblr media
She was supposed to have been a noble so like, fuckin’ Fashion, Baybee
Tumblr media
I also turned her weird metal underpants into a girdle, since a waist band of some form or another isn’t uncommon in the images we have of ancient Greek attire:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Garlandia, why did you have metal panties?
Since she’s a bard (I THINK?) I also strapped on some extra storage for sheet music. Her jewelry was inspired by the following pieces, though TBH she could probably be decked out more, I just wanted to leave her hands mostly free for that good good harp playin’
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
3) Shoes - These get their own section because I did way too much research for it not to. Basically, most Greeks straight up didn’t wear shoes, never mind socks. Also, in her model, is it just me or do her shoes look uncomfortable as fuck??
Tumblr media
Yikes girl are those cutting into your thighs?
Anyways, with her feet/toes being fucked up from frostbite, I wasn’t going to NOT give her shoes/socks, which meant I started looking at roman artifacts instead:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I found mention of romans wrapping their feet in fabric when it got cold, but the only “sock” I could find was from a roman fort in Britain:
Tumblr media
So, like, needless to say after all that and also getting suckered into reading about the nuances of gladiatorial combat for like an hour I ended up going for something more modern:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So anyways they’re 0% accurate from what I could find but I like the vibe
4) Himation - So remember what I was saying about how Garlandia would probably hate being cold? Check out these bad boys:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Basically the ancient Grecian version of the Blanket Cape, and also used as outerwear in the winter! It seems like the winter ones would have been made from wool, I’d imagine she’d wear it most places except maybe the desert or Karamja since those are warm enough on their own.
Anyways thanks for coming to my fucking runescape character redesign dissertation, next on the chopping block? Who knows. Maybe Zuzu (I heard her voice acting recently since I never play with sound and YIKES YIKES YIKES YIKES I HAD NO IDEA OH GOD)

February 8: Mountain Lion Mean Notes
Okay, so I was writing up notes on my Troped Western fic and then I clicked something and it all disappeared! I’m very upset and I hate the idea of starting again but like... I guess that’s what I gotta do :/
Mountain Lion Mean on AO3.
Written for @troped-fanfic-challenge
So as I said in my notes, I watched Hell or High Water on the Sunday the trope document opened and immediately became obsessed, and that was my main inspiration. I saw it and loved it and, like with most things I love, my first thought was how can I do this too?? I didn’t want to do a straight AU of it, because it’s just too good and I don’t want to mess with that kind of perfection, but I knew I wanted a similar mood. I also figured pretty early on that I would try to include a bank robbery.
For the first days after the trope doc opened, I mostly just gathered inspiration and tried to think Western thoughts. In addition to HOHW, my inspiration included:
The Western episode of Charmed
A Western Rock playlist I found on Spotify
This post of southwestern gothic aesthetics
“Ranch Girl” by Maile Meloy (also the inspiration for it is new moon and twilight, which, fun fact, was originally going to be a Western; I didn’t re-read the story but it’s been haunting me since I first read it c. 2001 and is probably a partial inspiration for everything I write)
William Faulkner (especially “A Rose for Emily” and A Light in August) for the “town POV” narration
Sigrid Undset for the floating third-person-POV
The wikipedia article on Westerns, for succinct summaries of the themes of Westerns
The original aesthetic, quoted from my notes: “The vastness of the west, the frontier, a little uncivilized, a little dangerous, tough looking men who don’t talk much, extrajudicial justice, the heat and the desert…“
By the time I sat down to brainstorm, I had a few ideas and a few images already in mind. I wanted to include a bank robbery. I liked the idea of Clarke as a gunslinger and/or purveyor of vigilante justice. I thought I might use Gina as a bartender (this was during the half-moment I thought I might write a Bartender Mechanic fic; obviously neither of these things happened). And I liked the idea of including Murphy as some kinda criminal or unsavory type. The image of Bellamy as a taciturn cowboy came fairly early too.
I was a little uncertain at first if I wanted to do an 1800s western or a neo-western, mostly because I felt like the tropes I was attracted to and the images in my head fit better in the 1800s. But ultimately I settled on neo-western pretty fast, because I thought the imagery and themes would work better in the modern day. Plus I just thought it would be easier tbqh.
My first concern was to not just re-write a shittier HOHW. I was really caught up in the logistics of the bank robbery; including too much of that would necessarily make it a copy of the film, so I tried to keep just the bare bones of the robbery + the general justification (saving the family land). Then I added additional portions of the scheme--not too difficult since I knew I wanted Gunslinger/Vigilante Clarke in there, and I needed some way to show that she takes Justice into her own hands--and additional characters. Again, most notably Clarke, but also Raven and Octavia. The characters have their own backgrounds, personalities, relationships, and motivations, all of which make the story more mine imo. I’m satisfied with the balance of Obvious HOHW Influences and original content.
At some point, I described it to my mom as “Bellamy is Toby, Murphy is Tanner, and Clarke is canon Clarke but in the modern West.” Which I still think is accurate.
Including Clarke, though, and privileging the various relationships among the trio of Bellamy, Clarke, and Murphy, made me feel like I was making an it is new moon and twilight knock off except with Clarke for Raven. I still kind of see it, tbh, in the sense that twilight was itself supposed to be a western--I think it would be fair to say that Mountain Lion Mean IS the fic I set out to write in February 2020--and in the sense that I could have written a different story in the same universe as Mountain Lion Mean that explored the Clarke, Murphy, and Bellamy relationships in a way that is similar to twilight. As is, a lot of that is unsaid and unseen. The two fics have different focuses, so it’s probably only apparent to me just how similar they are. Just like, to me, Mad Women and The Wanheda Tape are the same story even though they have very different aesthetics and plots.
Some excerpts from my notes that I think are fun:
I really want to work with the themes (haha themes) of frontier justice and also the sense that the west is infinite but also small, that nature is hard and impossible to wrangle but that the opportunities are narrow and it’s easy to get trapped in it, the melancholy nature of it, the dichotomy of nature (huge, powerful) versus man (small, struggling against nature and against man). Or some such. Or Murphy just robs banks.
Bellamy owns a struggling ranch. Clarke is a gunslinger (don’t really know if I can use this trope in the current day but possibly?) who doesn’t trust the law. Has a conceal[ed]-carry permit. Is the best shot in three counties. Murphy’s been in and out of prison most of his adult life, mostly for crimes like robbery and assault.
How do they know each other? Possibilities: Murphy knows Bellamy through Octavia (idk why…but I do feel like O should appear, riding a horse) (background Octaven? Just a thought), Bellarke are exes, Murphy used to work on the ranch. Clarke has killed someone (someone Bad) and gotten away with it.
I do like the focus being on these three characters, who have a long history but aren’t currently close, coming together for a mission (to rob a bank) for the benefit of one who is struggling (Bellamy) even thought this is an awful lot like both Hell or High Water and it is new moon and twilight lmao.
I like that mood from HOHW where actually Toby was the most dangerous, and the smartest, and he won—the idea that Bellamy is the taciturn cowboy who’s not good at sharing his feelings but he’s also the mastermind in the end. Is that the twist? You get the impression Vigilante Gunslinger Griffin and Actual Ex-Con Murphy are planning something, but then it turns out to be Bellamy who executes the plan? [Not quite how it turned out lol in that I think it’s decently obvious that Bellamy was a major part of it the whole time but I did try to get some of this in with Octavia in the final scene--to really drive home Bellamy’s importance, as the ring leader, since otherwise one could ask, what does he even do?]
Midway through the planning process I came up with some more images to work from:
B and C out at dusk on the ranch, she’s shooting can, a bit of UST perhaps
M shows up at the bar and there’s an awkward silent entrance—perhaps he’s just out of prison
Murphy or Clarke guns akimbo [I picked Clarke to emphasize that she’s the gunslinger, but I had Murphy shoot out the security cameras to show that they were using his robbery experience]
Bellamy being silent and awkward
At this point, it was just about putting all the pieces together. That’s how I tend to plan Troped fics: I lay out all the pieces I need or want to include and then I figure out the shortest and most efficient distances between them. For example, I knew I needed a bank robbery and for Clarke to administer some vigilante justice--so I use that justice as a way to launder the money. They fake a will for her victim and “give” the money to themselves.
I did worry, and still worry, about the timeline re: the Bellarke marriage and the will because I’m quite sure it doesn’t make sense and doesn’t work. But it also... it doesn’t keep me up at night because the whole point is that it’s a scam!! Worrying about legality in a scam is sorta... lol. What I mean specifically is that I wanted it to be clear that Clarke does not kill Kane FOR this scheme. They use something she already did to their advantage. So she and Bellamy can’t be married at the time Kane is killed. That implies the murder was pre-meditated for the bank robbing purpose. But I’m also fairly sure (and I should know this because I took T&E but like...honestly can’t remember) that the people in the will are counted at the time of death, not the time of probate, or you could like... adopt extra kids or marry or divorce someone to affect the will. Plus all that stuff about simultaneous death etc. etc. Also, on a practical level, if Clarke wasn’t married, Kane wouldn’t have an obvious reason to write her spouse into the will. But I get away with this in my head by saying, first, no one’s going to say the husband that’s standing right there doesn’t count as a husband--the law is the law but it’s implemented by people and they fudge corners all the time. They do what seems to make sense even if you’d lose points for it on a law school exam. And second, the will could have been written with the assumption or hope that Clare would marry. Possibly even, though I don’t say this in the fic exactly, on the condition of marriage--Clarke gets 100% to share 50-50 with her husband if she’s married, 0% if she’s not. Doesn’t really matter. It’s supposed to read as outwardly clever and create Mystery and play with the Exes Aesthetic even if it doesn’t hold up the strictest scrutiny. (JDs don’t @ me.)
I justified including the marriage as a necessity because Kane could possibly leave money to Clarke’s husband but he wouldn’t leave money to some rando. I do stand by that part.
I also decided at some point that I wanted to include Background Octaven but be really subtle about it so it was something else the reader would have to piece together: that Raven has a girlfriend, then that Octavia has a girlfriend but, hey, isn’t Raven a bartender?--and then it comes together in the last scene as we see that their relationship was factored into Bellamy’s plan all along: some of the loot goes directly to Octavia and her partner, officially as payment for Raven’s services, unofficially because Bellamy wants to give O a gift. Anyway. Either it was too obvious or too subtle/boring because no one mentioned it but I thought it was cool lol.
At this point in my planning I basically had everything I needed, so I wrote a quick outline of scenes, as I always do, to see how it would flow scene to scene and if I had a place to put all the necessary plot info. I also ended up doing “what I need from this scene” lists for each scene so that I knew what I had to have on my mind to include before I sat down to write each one.
The actual writing was done over 3 days and fairly easily and quickly. I had a lot of fun not just with planning but with the actual process of creation. I think it’s because I was just honestly excited to be in this universe and play with this aesthetic.
Not to blow my own horn here but some parts that I was particularly pleased with were:
“Arkadia hasn’t seen a drop of rain in thirty-two days. The asphalt on the highway shimmers with heat; the air crackles with heat; the heat rises, stifling and strong, from the parched dirt and the cracks in the pavement.” Like I’m sorry but that’s a good image, I like that a lot. Whenever I felt discouraged, I just read that again and felt better.
The description of past Bellarke because boy howdy do I not care to write romance anymore but that was fun. I thought it was hot.
Transitioning Murphy laughing until the coyotes can hear into Bellamy hearing coyotes at night into Bellamy still hearing them during the day. I don’t know if it worked quite like I wanted to but in my head that is a very Cinematic transition, okay? I also like that even though Clarke and Murphy aren’t literally riding off together in that scene, for the reader, they are leaving the narrative never to be seen again. So they get their Dramatic Exit.
Octavia’s explication of the Theme and Bellamy’s possible motivations. I’m pretty proud of myself for actually having a theme and I think I did a good job of explaining it without being too heavy-handed. I also think it was perhaps risky to end with the POV of Octavia, a character who’s barely been in the fic before the last scene, but ultimately that decision felt right to me and I think it had a good flow, a nice mellow exit from the narrative.
What I didn’t like as much was a lot of the first scene. I think it has some great bits but it was the most re-worked part of the fic, and there are still some paragraphs and phrases that I feel are a little stiff. For example, this is a paragraph that I cut entirely:
Diyoza was sure the Griffin daughter did the deed back in January and she's sure about it still. She even gives a quote to the Sun-Times about it, despite her troubles with Green. But she had no proof then, not even a body to justify a murder charge, and she has little proof now. So no one believes the investigation will come to anything.
As you can see, it gives no new information. There were other sentences and phrases that weren’t doing work but were interrupting the flow, which also got cut, but I’m still not sure that the flow is perfect in the final version.
Also displeased that I edited out a * from the version on AO3, thus letting two scenes run together. How embarrassing!!! It’s fixed now though.
Overall though I’m so pleased! I love this fic and I love that I can love things again. This year has already been so hard, just like being battered again and again by waves of a storm, and it’s only 5 weeks in but this experience was so unabashedly good and I’m so grateful for it.

men are actually so stupid it’s so funny “im in pain cos i like u” ok bitch and how is that my fault??!??!?!??!?!?!??!!?
THAT being said....i devote my life to king x ram and probably king i also really like how their interests were actual interests not just passing fancy biggest pet peeve is when they make like production design do all the work with ZERO PAYOFF
honestly i feel incredibly satisfied.i read the tags b4 i even contemplated actually watching and i saw that i guess ch 25 (?) of the novel is out, and there’s some weird shit but honestly.....i cant believe im saying this............ram’s home life hits hard (not for me personally but the idea of it) his dad is a fucking piece of shit so i can kinda get lashing out but not rly to the extent that i read in some spoilers (which i didnt totally understand)
the sad part is, men do this all the time, and women obviously can cheat too. it’s just such a burden and to ask your child to hide it from your family? that’s such narcissism and it’s toxic. he’s what at most 19 and his fucking father is asking him to hide his affair with his young-ass NEIGHBOR he grew up with LIKE ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME? idk how they will handle it in the show, but that will really fuck you up and traumatize you. it sucks that it’s in the middle of a time in his life that’s supposed to be enjoyable (i will always defend kids first or adult children etc oh well)
that was honestly in a weird way a rewarding watch? i just mostly watched king and ram parts and i really really like lay talay (i hope he does more stuff!) and perth is super cute (that is his name right? lol) and wholetime i was like OMG CRUSHES and the friendships in the show are nice! idc abt the other couples rly (ok in theory i care abt tharafrong but that is in a retroactive way i cannot take the stupidity frankly) but honestly i cant pay attention.
i am VERY surprised that i actually enjoyed the couple of hours i spent just now. granteed i basically watched like maybe 2 hrs out of 14 40-50m episodes but oh well! lmao
my major peeve is the editing ( mostly the sound editing and NOT USING FADES FOR FUCKED UP SOUND) and how overwhelming these ballads can be but that’s standard fare. all in all i’m like with a smaller budget and a lot to kind of build on....that was fun. and unlike 2gether i actually watched the last episode lmao im a woman who doesnt know shit about anything
oh 2things: 1. i hate fake tattoo makeup a lot bc i realize now that it’s too dark. i actually thought boun’s from uwma were real ? then i realized they are too immaculate. the designers from this show should take notes since perth’s fake tats got a bit smudged. i have a lot of my own and now it just seems glaringly obvious. not in a bad way like what are they supposed to do you know? i get the urge for tats to like ~mark you~ as characters (EYE personally wouldnt tbh also i hate th eneck tat but my bro has one that’s just as big so im tryna be nice) im just ???? LOL
2. the casting for ram’s little brother was rly great. they have different noses but their faces it’s so cute. he’s a tanner version of him minus the prominent nose. decent casting on their aprt
wow can u tell i have a one track mind

Mostly for my own amusement, here’s a compilation of my favorite non-SethKate moments in FDTD after I finished my most recent rewatch:
Freddie escaping from being tied to a stripper pole while they’re at the Twister—tbh I could probably make a list just of Freddie moments from s1-s2 alone. Season 3 Freddie? I don’t know him
Scott: “I’m all about my music now.” Richie: “Your music sucks!” Makes me laugh every time. Richard “Piss-Poor People Skills” Gecko strikes again
Seth’s reactions in s3 whenever someone calls him a feedbag, especially the first time it happens and he calls it a micro-aggression
Freddie & Kate on the case in s2! I really, really thought the first time around, right up until she pulled the gun on him, that she was going to end up following in his footsteps, especially when Oculto says the bit about the “crusty old ranger takes on an eager young sidekick who will one day fill his shoes”.
Uncle Eddie! Especially when he calls either Seth or Richie on their shit—“Right about now, he’s going to flash that shit-eating grin of his...”. RIP, Eddie. You were gone too soon.
Every sincere Gecko Brothers moment—from their fights in season one, to them eating about the problems in season 2, and running Jackknife Jed’s together in s3 and going back to their roots at the end.
Kate just being her strong and compassionate self. She is the embodiment of “do no harm but take no shit” and I forgot how she stood up to Tanner right from the start, and kept pressing Jacob to find out the truth, and wouldn’t let Seth slide on any of his bullshit (ok I know I said no SK, but I had to sneak that in), and absolutely tore into Scott & Richie after they got her killed. And then.... this amazing girl still forgives them all (except Tanner but who cares)
Both the “I’m Seth Gecko, motherfucker” and “My name is Kisa” moments—one of the many parallels drawn between Seth & Santanico/Kisa, that show no matter how different they are, they’re more alike than either would want to admit.
On the same note as the last point, I’m just going to say the writing in general??? I appreciated it a lot more on the rewatch(es) than I did the first time around, when you realize they’re not just spending valuable story time on something for shits & giggles; it’s actually building to something that comes later. There’s definitely some room for improvement—season 1 remains glacially paced and the issues with their women characters are obvious—but overall, I think most of the plot lines and characterization are airtight
Almost forgot: Professor Tanner finally getting punished by the narrative and permanently going to Xibalba. I hated how important he was in s3; it felt like they were trying to redeem him a little, especially with his frenemies shtick with Burt, but ultimately he was a serial killer and predator, and I’m glad he got his. (Now if only Carlos had gotten his just desserts, too...)

I hate what they did with Ali's character. I wish she still had that edge she had wen she was a bully. I'm dying for a scene where her full on monstrous side comes out while protecting her friends. I'd love to see her square off with ad or tanner or somebody and just verbally demolish them. Snatch their wig and leave them dead in a ditch.
I’ve seen people speculate that Alison is the one who killed Addison lol so I’m down with that tbh. But yeah no, how they treated Alison’s character was tragic. It seems they couldn’t find a way to make her unapologetic and fierce without making her mean. And it’s clear they had issues with that in general because I think they tried to do that with Hanna and instead, Time Jump Hanna was just bitchy and awful. I think they could have made Alison strong and unapologetic without making her the same high school bully she was, and she’d still have her edge, you know what I mean? :/ It sucks they didn’t.
I guess in one way I get it, who she was is what put her through so much pain so she kind of made every ounce of personality she had disappear because it was safer but at the same time, I think it’s just. Another way how women are treated. They had to redeem Alison and the only way they could do that was to make her a meek, timid shell of who she used to be.
