My Winston Byrd Headcanons:

She was a lot more of a mellow person before being locked up. Though he was still rather excitable, Winston had far better of a hold on his emotions back then. Especially their temper. Some people would've even described her as gentle.

They were always fascinated by toons and their culture. Winston spent a lot of time researching it, both for work, and on her own time. (In fact, it was this fascination that led her to take this job in the first place.) Of course, this interest didn't necessarily indicate any real respect for the toons, and despite his efforts, its attempts to emulate their mannerisms were clumsy at best.

Winston's hobbies included bowling and whittling. He actually bowled competitively, and even won a few awards for it. (Fun fact, this hc spawned from a joke I once made about freeing Winston and taking her to various places, including the bowling alley. It has since been enshrined into my beliefs.) These days, Winston can sometimes be found sitting in the dungeon and carving figures with their knife and whatever happens to be laying around. (Usually, they're of people. Perhaps ones he used to know.) Of course, any skill she once had in this is undermined by her shaking hands.

He will eat just about anything. In my headcanons, cogs can digest anything combustible, but some things are much more healthy and pleasant to eat than others. But Winston's learned not to be picky. Dirt, wood, leftover gags, it doesn't care. If he were to be reintroduced into society, he'd have a lot of table manners to relearn.

Other cogs tended to regard him as being endearingly weird. They found Winston's interests a little strange, and found it especially odd when she'd let some toony phrase or another slip into their speech, but its demeanor was charming enough that most people just saw it as an interesting quirk. Nowadays though... if a cog were to meet it, they'd see her as frightening or uncanny. And/or just plain tragic.

They don't really have a concept of time anymore. Winston's internal clock is pretty much busted, and the only lengths of time that exist in his perception are A Couple Minutes, and Basically Eternity. She knows her sense of time is fucked, but it's only half aware of just how bad it's gotten. Sometimes, a few minutes stretch into infinity, and sometimes, hours pass without him realizing.

AHHHH I DO ! AND I AM SO GLAD YOU ASKED. heres a few of my head thoughts grinnn. ill put them under the cut :3c

- flint, holly and ben are friends. a chum of mine pointed out their potential, given flint likes drama, ben spreads drama and holly starts drama ^__^ theyd be at a mall and watch people from the corner before sending holly out to start something for shits and giggles

- william and alton are sooo straightman funnyman duo to me. i think usual conversations between them consist of alton rambling on and on to say something so small in five hundred words, with william responding bluntly in two

- big love for brubuck but i need it to be said that dave and buck are goofy and best friends before theyre lovers. as in theyd do dumb shit together and they are the best of friends while being in love is more of a byproduct. i mean of course theyre in love. they broke the space time continuum to be together as high roller. if thats not love i dont know what is

- dana and tawney speak regularly now! i remember reading somewhere that dana was the host of suitopia fm, tawney’s favorite radio show. originally dana saw tawney as just a fan, but after some time theyre mutually pretty close!

- theres not much to basis this one off of, but i think itd be neat if buck ruffler and buck wilde were acquainted in some way. nothing much, usually just light hearted conversations between the two. usually ruffler getting wilde to speak more, in which wilde appreciates

- chip and spruce are soo. so important to me. this is less of a headcanon given the fact their friendship is canon, but i like to hope that they still close regardless of anything. no matter what chip is trudging through, spruce is stubborn enough to stay at his side. its sad spruce is unaware of the override, though ..

- cosmo would strangle buck if he wouldnt get fired for it. send the investors in

- i remember seeing one of daves vinyls in grahams room on his wall. maybe graham is a fan of dave? i really didnt take him to be much of a jazz guy, though. i dont think dave would like graham though. i for one think dave would put graham in a casket

- brian probably attempts to make some contact with winston. i think he finds winston interesting, but more in a subject type of way. of course, winston enjoys the company nontheless

- william Deeply dislikes desmond. and its mutual. desmond would beat the hell out of william, but unlike will he actually has some form of self control

- mary, misty and holly are pretty close, too! mary and holly are stated in canon to be pretty close, and im sure misty would be loved among them. i like to think theyre in a relationship, more of a subtle thing. theyd go to the movies together :3c

- i like to think that misty and chip are pretty close, too. in a similar way to the above, there is a bit of love, but again nothing more outside of polite acknowledgments — theyre still close! love language is just spending time or something. they both like the quiet which is funny given one of them is a Chainsaw and the other is a Storm

- alton and spruce are friends to me. they deserves to wreck destruction and laugh unintelligibly at eachother. mary hates both of them Deeply due to harming the ecosystem

- the three directors got somethin going on between them to me . dana wilde and desmond they probably play toono together and then the other two beat up the winner

- this ones rooted in canon, belle and dave having some kind of beef thats usually limited to verbal back and forth insults. why is the meemaw and the jazzman fist fighting. dave youre going to be put in a grave belle is scary strong

- cathal and flint should be friends i think. theyd play vidya games together ^__^ the he theys are playing mario kart its true

- prester hates the Entire litigation team. that old man Hates them with a Burning passion. the only one he somewhat enjoys is barry. courtney, mundie and kilo are plotting to kill prester i think!

- also erfit sads and high roller are all friends. shrugs

(paceplace) / honestly ttcc writing is very messy i agree. i love the game to bits and dissecting it but the flaws in it are as enriching to pick apart as it is frustrating to discover. it really, truly does break my heart that toons aren't as appreciated as the cogs and i wish there were toon characters you could focus on in the same way the mgrs are. the NPCs you meet along the taskline are charming and i adore every single one of them but as much as i personally like them i don't think its enough to capture people's attention in the broad sense.

irt my qualms w/ how ttcc handles its game i think one of the many main issues boils down to the fact that they're disorganized. their issue w/ how lore has been distributed has been addressed twice by the team itself iirc (once in th same tweet where they confirmed fire\\setter as canon and once in their writers backstage post from around a yr ago). their writers backstage post helped give a little more perspective on why the lore was scattered around Like That.

as all over the place as the lore is, i do feel it's important to mention that they said in their backstage writers post they plan on eventually migrating all of their social media comics to the website so things like the rain\\diver comic is very likely to still be canon they just haven't added it in yet. idk why they don't add it around the same time its posted on social media my guess is maybe they're still trying to organize all the lore or redo some of it since its so all over the place (a couple of the comics we have rn on their website that are considered canon has info that was technically retconned) but yeah. i have hope that the way they handle their lore and (hopefully!) their taskline when they get around to rewriting it will improve in the later updates. i try very hard to stay on top w/ clash's lore esp since i have ppl come to me w/ questions regarding clash's story, characters, etc. but sometimes it is Very headache-inducing so i sympathize w/ how confusing/frustrating it is to a casual player. or just any lore-enjoyer tbf. i swear on my life i almost went crazy trying to make a timeline with btl

anyways you don't have to answer this if you don't want (i gen. apologize for the wall of text i really tried to get straight to the point w/ what i'm saying. and even then there's still a lot i wanted to say) but i'm really glad to see discussions on it. oftentimes criticism gets mistaken for hate and it shuts the entire convo which Peeves me. even if w/e's being criticized turns out to fall flat its better to address or talk about it than it is to not, imo.

It's so strange to me that ttcc doesn't really lean into more how the cogs affect the toons, or toon society for all that matter, its a wonder people are so baised with cogs because we really dont get anything about toons. Their less part of the game and more set peices for this war, which sucks!

Theres obviously alot more room to write about toon lore and it would be easier to implement it in game, yet it gets brushed aside to further characterize the cogs and thats sad bc alot of the toons are cute and unique! Ttcc has great toon designs!

I also have to agree with the way the lore is handled, id even go as far to say big updates themsleves are handled in a frankly. Unprofessional manner. I mean, compare the update live streams done in jokey powerpoint slides to ttrs panles where they talk about progress on the updates. We really get little to no inside information until it's already ready to drop. Sure the game updates more regularly but all these updates are starting to feel like filler and padding. I at least can hope that hammerspace and mix and match at least come with some toon lore?

Its a shame that alot of what drew me into this game ends up weighing it down : (

Okay so, theory: Whenever the Managers play social deduction games, Prester Vergil is usually the first to go.

When he's not the first to go, that's usually a sign that he's the imposter/werewolf/mafioso/Toon-in-disguise/whatever for that round, and as such gets voted out.

Why?

Because everyone hates Prester, so the imposter/werewolf/mafioso/Toon-in-disguise/whatever will usually go after him first for some in-game catharsis. It's literally the only reason they invite him to game night.

the idea of the mgrs coming at prester specifically is so funny to me 😭 absolutely deserved though. i like to think holly puts in thrice the effort to take him out to cope being in the same playground as him

My Thoughts on the Dynamics Between the Matched Pairs of Taskline Managers:

(Which are obviously correct, because I have the url /joking)

William and Desmond have had mutual hatred since the day they met. It's not a passionate hatred, they just annoy each other. Desmond lets his superiority over William get to his head, but William neither respects, acknowledges, or despises him being his replacement. (Which bothers Desmond, cause now he can't rub it in his face.)

In some of my AUs, Alton and Buck are cousins, but this isn't a hard HC of mine; it's just a good reason to throw two separate Texans into Nova Scotia and London respectively. Related or not, they've known each other a long time, and know everything about how to get under the other's skin. Er... um. Whatever the Cog equivalent of that is. They yell at each other in board meetings. They punch and wrestle each other on the regular. They argue over who's to pay whose repair bills. I think Buck is the younger of the two, but he pretends to be the older. Despite all their animosity, which is genuine, if one of them really needed help, was really stuck in a bad place, the other would come get him out of there. And then he'd hold it over his head for the rest of time.

Neither Winston nor Dana knew each other personally. But Winston's quite familiar with Dana's radio show, and adored it greatly. She might've even gotten a little parasocial about it. On the other hand, Dana has some... contradictory opinions on Winston, finding his methods to be both revolutionary and ineffective. Dana really looks up to her predecessor, and regularly references its work when it comes to Toons. But Dana also feels he is better, more effective, more ruthless than Winston ever could've been. Because.... if he isn't then, who's to say they won't share Winston's fate?
