NFU asks Welsh government to 'keep a close eye' on bird flu

The National Farmers’ Union of Wales (NFU Cymru) has urged the Welsh government to “keep a close eye” on the spread of avian influenza (bird flu) after further cases of the disease were confirmed.

NFU Cymru poultry members have said that new cases of the highly pathogenic disease in Buckley, Flintshire, and Tattenhall, Cheshire, have heightened their concerns.

The union’s response comes after a statement issued on Tuesday (November 8) by rural affairs minister Lesley Griffiths.

The minister confirmed that Wales would not yet be introducing a mandatory housing order like the one now in place in England. She said the situation remains under daily review.

Earlier this week, NFU Cymru members held a meeting with the interim chief veterinary officer (CVO) for Wales to discuss their growing concerns over the latest outbreak of bird flu.

During the meeting, the Welsh government reminded all keepers that they must keep their birds safe by applying the biosecurity measures in the All-Wales Avian Influenza Prevention Zone, as well as the Welsh government’s current position on housing measures.

NFU Cymru poultry chair, Richard Williams, said; “Everyone connected with the poultry industry is extremely concerned at the current AI (avian influenza) picture and the priority for everyone at this time is protecting our flocks from this disease.

“While NFU Cymru recognises that the disease picture in Wales is different to that currently seen in England – where housing orders are already in place – Welsh poultry keepers present at the meeting felt that it was vital the industry in Wales kept ahead of the disease.”

Williams said that the general feeling of those in attendance at the meeting was that the Welsh Government should also introduce housing measures as an additional protective shield for birds in Wales.

“NFU Cymru urges Welsh government to keep a very close eye on the continued spread of AI and to take fast action if and when it is required to prevent further cases,” Williams said.

“I make no apologies for repeating the important message that all poultry members must continue to practise enhanced biosecurity at all times and to be vigilant for any signs of disease in their flock.

“I would also ask members of the public who keep smaller flocks of birds such as chickens, geese and ducks to also follow Welsh Government’s biosecurity advice.

“All bird keepers – whether they be larger commercial businesses or those with small ‘backyard’ flocks – have an important part to play in reducing the risk of AI,” he concluded.

For the classical genre, I chose "Love is like a violin" by Barry Tattenhall. If I were able to arrange these songs in the best-sounding order, this would've been placed at the very top. This is a good introductory song to set the tone and ambiance for the playlist. This is a beautiful sort of baled, very light and airy. There is a perfect balance of violin and piano, with a sweet and happy feel. For the next song for the genre of blues, I chose to Make a little love tonight by Elmore James. This of course has an older timeless feel, more upbeat. With instruments like piano, guitar, and saxophone. This is a song that'll make people put a little boogie into their step. As stated this is a piece of musical history, in this song James talks about buying his girl a diamond ring and insinuates making a little love tonight. The next song in the genre of pop is " Love on top" by Beyonce. Of course, everything Beyonce is a musical masterpiece. " Love on top" is about being so in love and having that love be your everything, as Beyonce herself states "you put my love on top". This song is very upbeat and bold. For the genre hip-hop I chose Kendrick Lamar's song " Love", for a hip-hop song this is a little more relaxed, Lamar states even if we were in inconvenient circumstances "would you still love me", and "just love me, I wanna be with you". For the rock genre, I chose the song " I wanna know what love is" by Foreigner. This is a song that can be played at almost every function time or place, which is something all of the songs listed have in common. This is an overall crowd-pleaser, with more electric instrumentals. Foreigner stated, " In my life, theirs been heartache and pain", and " I wanna know what love is, I want you to show me". Last but not least, one of the greatest love songs of all time, is " I will always love you" by Whitney Houston. This is the perfect ending to the perfect playlist. Nobody does it like Whitney. This song starts out slow and by the chorus a beautiful belt. This song will have everybody in their feels.

19th Century Marble Entrance Hall Renovated in Tattenhall Cheshire

This Black and White Marble tiled hallway floor at a Grade II listed property in the village of Tattenhall has quite a history. The building was constructed in 1865 and at one time it has been the home to the high sheriff of Cheshire, and the family home of Edith Wignall the daughter of Sir Henry Tate the founder of the sugar company Tate and Lyle. In more recent years the property had been used as a council building and even a nursing home for the elderly. After a long history of decline it has now been restored to a lavish family mansion however the marble floor had suffered over the years and still need attention. The current owner had been in touch as they wanted it restoring and basically brought back to life. As it turns out I had already planned to go to Tattenhall the following week to work on another listed building which was formerly the village bank. After discussing the Marble floor over the phone, I agreed a date and time to pop over from the bank and inspect the floor in detail. I can provide a rough quote from photographs, which has been especially useful recently, but it's far better for all concerned if I'm able to properly survey the floor first.
