In Artforum’s November issue, “Tauba Medium,” an essay by Caroline A. Jones, heralds the opening of “S v Z,” the artist’s exhibition at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, on view from December 18, 2021 to May 1, 2022.“Meaning in written language is not only content but gesture,” Tauba Auerbach observes in this 2010 rumination on style and handwriting. #taubaauerbach

Artista nacida en San Francisco en 1981, es una artista visual que no se centra en un solo medio si no que explora tanto la pintura y la escultura como la fotografía el libro de artista. Es un arte muy gráfico, abstracto, que se centra en el color casi como un ente, de manera que su obra es como un espectro de colores que fluyen entre ellos de manera suave y natural. En la base más temprana de su desarrollo, Auerbach comenzó a desarrollar unas pinturas a partir de elementos propios de la rama de la tipografía y la caligrafía y las formas de las letras, despojadas de su principal significado y utilizadas unicamente como elemento visual. Su obra, especialmente la escultórica, nos hace sentir quizás como si estuvieramos en un viaje en barco con el movimiento de la marea o incluso en avión atravesando turbulencias. Son obras llenas de movimiento y dinamismo. Son obras hipnoticas y placenteras a la vista, esteticas, bellas, que atrapan la mirada y te envuelven, te hacen desear estar dentro de ellas y llenarte de color y empaparte de las formas. A pesar de lo joven que es, esta artista cuenta ya con un largo recorrido, y ha expuesto en grandes centros como la sucursal del MoMA de California, el MoMA en Nueva York, el Museo de Arte Moderno de París y una larga lista de otros centros de gran importancia. Llama la atención su aparentemente inagotable creatividad, ya que parece no conocer límite en el medio utilizado ni la rama artística, llevando a cabo una exploración de carácter ecléctico, ya que se mueve en todas las ramas, y crea hast láminas de explosión de color, hasta esculturas en madera e incluso instrumentos, como un organo que creó a partir de madera y está diseñado de tal manera que solo puede ser tocado por dos o más personas, quitandole así el carácter individual que tiene el músico en relaión con su instrumento. Esta obra fue creada de la mano de el artista Cameron Mesirow, y funciona a través de pequeños teclados que se le entregan a cada persona. Es por esto que una sola persona no puede tocarlo, porque no tiene en sus manos un teclado con un rango de notas suficiente para poder crear un sonido mmusical y funcional. Además, depende de que una de las dos personas toque las teclas para que las del otro suenen. Esta pieza está construida, entre otros materiales, por diferentes maderas y piezas de cuero.
