I don't know when acting came to be more about awards than about the work. Judging who's better than the other person shouldn't be part of why we're doing this job. It should be about entertaining people.

Being followed is weird, that people want to discuss where I ate lunch or what I wear when I go to lunch... the private life is just gone.

When I was growing up I was in love with the classics. I read the entire Shakespeare canon by the time I was 12. I loved it!  Everyone else thought it was boring or dry. To me, it’s about sex and violence and all the great, fun stuff. I think if I have a legacy that I want to leave it would be trying to introduce that material to a modern audience in a way so they could see it the way I do.

I wasn't like a Hollywood child actor - "I'm five! I can sing, I can dance, I can act! I wanna be a star!" - the movie I did [at 13] was because the director was a friend of my dad's. I told my parents, I don't want to do this any more. My dad said, "You have to love it, if you don't feel that way, do the other thing, whatever it is." I'm very grateful that he did that. I would have listened to him if he'd said, "Keep going". I would have tried, and I would have done it for a few more years probably, but I'm absolutely sure I wouldn't be acting today. I would have crashed and burned after a while.

In high school, I did my whole punk rock thing, with bright pink highlights and a nose ring. I was stuck in the 90s - even though I didn't go to school in the 90s - and Kurt Cobain was like my hero. And my dad's side of the family is very biker, backwoods New Jersey. So this isn't new territory for me. I've met these people and know the type very well.

I was shy and a hard worker, so acting was a way to focus whatever nervous energy I was experiencing onto a goal.

I think that part of the difficulty of being a celebrity is that you may have to hide what you’re feeling and you aren’t totally allowed to be yourself, because you’re in the public eye.

Perry’s got a twin sister called Terry and she shows up and she’s pissed off that they all killed her brother. So, it’s basically a badass revenge story about this six foot four woman named Terry who’s there to avenge the death of her brother.

Acting is somewhat mysteriously taught. There are so many different methods and systems and processes for teaching acting because it will always be an elusive art-form.
