WedsSport TC105N vs TC105X: Everything You Need to Know

If you’re into racing, as in time attack, GT300, GT500, and other racing series, then you’ve probably heard of WedsSport. More specifically, you’ve probably heard of the WedsSport TC series. This series of wheel began back in 1993, and it was designed to be lightweight and strong without breaking the bank. The current generation TC series wheel, TC105N, has been a great success in racing and tons of enthusiasts choose this wheel for track toys and daily drivers. The latest evolution of the TC series will be arriving in summer 2018. This new TC105X is designed around modern cars which are not only heavier than cars of the past but also have significantly more power.

Like the current TC105N, the TC105X had a ton of R&D time in Japan’s SuperGT racing series. The data that WedsSport collected from this racing series was vital to the development and helped them design a wheel that could withstand extreme stresses without being too heavy. Compared to the TC105N, the TC105X has six fundamental changes that make it stronger. These changes don’t alter the visual appearance on the wheel, so it still has that 10-spoke design that so many enthusiasts love.

The first change that WedsSport employed was revising the N-Frame structure. The N-frame of the TC105N was designed to improve spoke rigidity and improve impact dispersion. By making the N-frame slightly taller on the TC105X, WedsSport was able to improve spoke rigidity even further. As you can tell from the photos below, the N-Frame is somewhat larger on the new model, but unless you were specifically looking for this difference, you probably wouldn’t notice it.

WedsSport has used this design in their previous wheels and found great success with it, so they are applying it to the new TC105X. By having large cuts in the sides of the spokes, a ton of weight was shed without affecting strength, since the cut increases the spoke’s surface area, creating better load dispersion. The outgoing TC105N uses flat spokes on the opposite side of the spokes with the n-frame. It’s pretty easy to see the difference in the photos.

Barrel Profile

The barrel of the wheel is one of the most critical parts, as it connects the face and the rear of the wheel. A weak barrel is much more likely to break for an impact, so it’s crucial that the barrel uses a strong design. Of course, the barrel is quite large, so using too much material results in a very heavy wheel. The TC105X features a drop-center which WedsSport uses in some of their other wheels. The drop-center acts as a reinforcement for the face of the wheel and improves overall wheel strength.

The flanges of the wheels are the furthest out part of the wheel and undergo a lot of abuse. For the TC105X, WedsSport flatted out the front flange and thickened the rear lip. This slightly improves strength overall and makes the rim of the wheel less likely to break.

Further reducing weight are small cuts on the backside of the spokes. On the outgoing TC105N, the back of the spokes are entirely flat, but WedsSport found that a small amount of material can be removed without effecting spoke strength. So, the TC105X features small cuts on the back of the spokes. It might not be a substantial weight saving, but in an already lightweight wheel, minor changes matter.

The final change for the TC105X is the center area, which has been slightly modified to increase total surface area, improving load distribution. This is a minor change, but as we mentioned above, the smallest differences matter when improving an already great wheel.

Should You Upgrade?

If you currently have a set of TC105N wheels, you might be wondering if you should upgrade. If you love going to the track and having the lightest possible wheel is important to you, then you should upgrade. If you use your car as a daily driver, you can upgrade if you want, but it’s not necessary. The TC105X is an evolution of the TC series, not a revolution. The changes are small, but add up to an overall improved wheel compared to the TC105N.

Without the Acura NSX, modern supercars wouldn’t be the way they are. When it hit the market in 1990, it blew the competition away by offering supercar performance and Japanese reliability. The NSX has since become a performance icon. Like most cars from that era, however, the stock wheels were never particularly good looking. Luckily, the 5×114.3 lug pattern of the NSX means there are lots of aftermarket wheel choices.

The TC105N is super popular for enthusiasts who want a lightweight and robust wheel with a simple design. The TC105N has tons of testing time in Japan’s SuperGT racing series and is trusted by thousands of racers all over the globe. The TC105N was the wheel of choice for our client, with their Acura NSX.

The simple ten-spoke design of the TC105N flows well with pretty much any car. This particular car uses a 17×8 / 18×9.5 fitment. レーダー探知機も役に立たない国内最強の移動式オービスが名古屋高速のトンネル内に出現！

【軽トラ横転事件!? 渋谷ハロウィンの暴動】もし愛車が輩に囲まれたら!? WEB OPTION流に対策術を考えてみた

ハロウィン直前の週末(28日未明)、渋谷駅前で暴徒化した群衆によって、軽トラが横転させられるという事件が発生した。 撮影：ゆうきゆうさん（ゆうメンタルクリニック院長） この軽トラ横転が発生したのは、「渋谷センター街」。状況は各メディアが報道しており「28日午前１時すぎ、渋谷区のセンター街で走行していた軽トラックが取り囲まれ、荷台に乗り込まれるなどした。危険を感じた運転手が車を離れた間に、横転させられ、左側のドア付近がへこむなどした。けが人はいなかった。運転手から被害届が提出され、同署は器物損壊容疑で捜査している」（毎日新聞、28日）と報じている。 また、軽トラが横転させられる様子を撮影した映像もネット上で拡散、SNS上では「ふざけるな！」「轢き殺してぇ」など過激なコメントを発信するクルマ好きも見られた。正直言って、WEB OPTIONを見てくれている人の大半は同じ気持ちだと思う。 では、自分の愛車が同じような状況になったとして、いったいどういう対策法があるのだろうか？ チューニング業界関係者を対象に、WEB OPTIONが独自にリサーチした対策法のなかで、最も効果的(?)であろう回答をまとめてみた。 その1 白煙モクモクのバーンナウント 現実度 ★★☆☆☆ 適合車種：ラインロック装着車 「相手は暴徒化しているからどこまで効果的か分からないけど、白煙と音でビビらせて逃げるしかないよね。だからラインロック付けてバーンナウントをかましてやるの！」(チューニングショップ経営者O) 競技スタート前にタイヤを温めて最適なグリップを発揮できるようホイルスピンを誘発させる行為をバーンナウントと呼ぶ。これを行いやすくするパーツがラインロックで、ブレーキラインにバルブを割り込ませて意図的にフロントブレーキのみロックさせるのだ。おもにゼロヨンのスタート前などに行われる儀式だ。 その2 レブリミッター炸裂 現実度 ★★★☆☆ 適合車種：レブリミッター装着車 「Bee☆Rというチューニングショップが販売しているレブリミッターを装着することですかね！ あれは設定回転数で点火カットするレーシングパーツなんですが、レブカットの瞬間は壮絶な炸裂音とともにマフラーから火が出る！ あれを連発されたら恐ろしくて普通はクルマから離れるはず。かなり火も出るからマフラー側の人間は火傷するでしょうけど…」(チューニングパーツメーカー関係者N) Bee☆Rが販売するレブリミッター(24000円)。設定回転数で点火をカットする装置で、燃料カットではないため燃料に火が付いて炎を発生したり、爆音を発したりする。レースシーンを想定して開発された電子パーツだ。 その3 NOSパージバルブ攻撃 現実度 ★★★☆☆ 適合車種：NOS＆パージバルブシステム装着車 「NOS装着車限定だけど、パージさせまくるのはどうかな？ ワイルドスピードとかでプシャーって白い煙を噴射してるアレね。目の前で噴射されたらかなりビビると思う。あ、噴射ガスも歯医者が使う麻酔とおなじ笑気ガス(亜酸化窒素)だから、違う効果をねらえるかも!?」(チューニングショップ経営者Y) NOSのオプションとして用意されているパージバルブ。本来は、NOSラインにエアの混入を防ぐために使用前に少量放出するものなのだが、映画の影響もあって今では完全なパフォーマンスパーツとなっている。 その4 360度ドライブレコーダー装備 現実度 ★★★★★ 適合車種：とくにナシ 「自分が捕まるのはナンセンスですからね。やっぱり、全方位録画できるドライブレコーダーを装備するしかないでしょう。愛車はボロボロにさせられてしまうけど、横転させ���輩の顔をすべて録画しておくことができるので、後日、器物損壊などの罪で逮捕できるはず」(チューニングショップ経営者B) これはユピテルが販売する「720°(360度+360度) 全天球日本製ドライブレコーダー Q-01」。車両の前後左右、上下を完全にカバーする最強ドラレコだ。実勢価格は6万152円。 その5 定常円旋回で吹っ飛ばす 現実度 ☆☆☆☆☆ 適合車種：FR車全般 「バカに囲まれたら円カキ(定常円旋回)しかないやろ！ ただし、回転スピードを抑えた白煙多めの円カキやで。これなら、周囲の人間に当たってもちょっと吹っ飛ばすくらいでまず死ぬことはない。まぁなんだかんだでこっちが罪に問われてしまうやろうし、愛車も相応のダメージを負うことにな���けどな。目には目をってやつや。だから、円カキの練習しとき！」(ドリフトショップ経営者S) 写真はイメージ。機械式LSDが入ったFR車なら定常円旋回はむずかしくない。 （WEB OPTION編集部） あわせて読みたい * 新型スープラ情報も続々。日本を代表するチューニングカー雑誌「OPTION」のウェブサイト「WEB OPTION」がスタート！ * 【最強ホイール解体新書】日本の鋳造技術をフル投入したウェッズスポーツの最高峰モデル「TC105X」デビュー！ * 【直撃!! 噂の真走】箱根ターンパイクをMotoGP世界王者マルケスが激走!! 横浜ゴムから圧倒的な存在感を放つスポーツ系アルミホイール「ADVAN Racing RZ-F2」が登場

横浜ゴムから高級感漂うスポーツ系アルミホイール「ADVAN Racing TC-4」が発売
