One year ago, I was standing at Cape Reinga on the edge of beginning the biggest adventure of my life. Te Araroa. I was terrified. Truly terrified. My expectations were too high. Little I knew that I was about to live the best and worst days of my life. It was three months but it felt like three years. So much happened. Good and bad but it's all part of what made this adventure so special. I never thought I'll be able to pull it off. Even so my trail took unexpected turns, I don't regret any of it. I walked beaches, floundered through forests, crossed rivers, climbed mountains. I cried of pain, but I cried so much more for the wonders I was witnessing. I was overwhelmed by the kindness of people I met. I met some awesome people, specially one that will always have a special place in my heart now. Will I do it again? Damn straight I will, I actually can't wait for it. It changed me, somehow, someway. Even so I'm still confused of who and what I want to be, I know now that I have the strength to accomplish anything. All I need is perseverance. Thank you Te Araroa for teaching me not to give up #teararoa #teararoatrail #ta1617 #hiking #hikerlife #hikingalone #hikingadventures #hikingwithfriends #unlikelyhikers #peoplewhohike #newzealand #discoveryadventures #soulsearching #oneyearago #sweetandsourmemories #mydreamsarestrongerthanmyfear #thereandwalkagain

zacefron: "Wilderness is not a luxury but a necessity of the human spirit, and as vital to our lives as water and good bread." - Edward Abbey. Sadly we didn’t get to hike the roughly 2000 miles from the top of New Zealand to the bottom but it’s safe to say this view alone was worth the route we decided to hike. I highly recommend hiking with your significant other because it really brings you closer together. ✌🏼❤️ #TeAraroaTrail

Day 102. We wanted to shoot the Church of the Good Shepherd ever since we were here in 2013. Yesterday the conditions were better (not perfect) for a first attempt. We got out of the tent at 12'ish and found the church surrounded by photographers. We squeezed ourselves in and hoped for the best. #newzealand #teararoatrail #teararoanl #teararoa #laketekapo #churchofthegoodshepard #longexposure #astronomy #milkyway #wellpartofanyway

Te Araroa Trail comes to central Wellington
A series of distinctive bronze wayfinding plaques are to be installed on central-city footpaths today to mark one of the rare urban sections of the 3000-kilometre Te Araroa national walkway.
A series of distinctive bronze wayfinding plaques are to be installed on central-city footpaths today to mark one of the rare urban sections of the 3000-kilometre Te Araroa national walkway.
Eleven of the plaques are to be laid in place on footpaths in Bowen Street, Lambton Quay, Willis Street, Mercer Street and in Civic Square and on the waterfront to enable trail walkers to make their way from the northern suburbs and then on towards the Town Belt on Mt Victoria and the Southern Walkway to the end of North Island section of the trail at Shorland Park, Island Bay.
Installation of the plaques will concentrate on Lambton Quay this morning – with one plaque installed outside Cable Car Lane around 11am.
Bill Wakelin, Chair of Te Araroa Wellington Trust, says the numbers of people walking the entire length of the trail – from Cape Reinga to Bluff - is growing each year with about 200 mainly international walkers taking on the challenge this year.
The plaques are being installed in preparation for the peak time of the year when most people take on the whole trail which typically takes three or four months for the very fit and ‘committed’.
Bill Wakelin also hopes the presence of the plaques will encourage local people to follow the local sections of the trail which take in Te Ahumairangi (Tinakori) Hill, Trelissick Park, Mt Kaukau, Ohariu Valley and Colonial Knob.
Further north, the trail passes beside Porirua Harbour and the Taupo Swamp north of Plimmerton. Early next year the spectacular new section between Pukerua Bay and Paekakariki, featuring two swing bridges across ravines on the cliffs above the Main Trunk rail line, will also be completed.

Day 90. Blue Lake Hut to Caroline Bivvy (2003km). Another start of the day with a steep ascend. After the first ascend we were rewarded with a great view of Lake Constance. The walk around it was not easy as the lake was overflown and we had to crawl over tussock on a steep hill. After that a very steep climb to get second highest point of the Te Araroa, at 1870 metres. This photo was taken 200 metres before the summit and you see Bibi taking a photo of Lake Constance. The descend after that was steep again and involved a lot of rock climbing. The walk down to the bivvy was long and not fun as it started raining. The bivvy is a 2 person one so we knew we had to pitch the tent in the rain. Not a fun ending of the day, but we made it. #waiaupass #teararoa #teararoanl #teararoatrail

It is almost a week ago since we finished the Te Araroa in Bluff, feels like forever. The random tourist did a good job capturing our celebratory champagne (10 bucks sparkling wine actually) poppin' 🍾🎉 #teararoa #teararoanl #teararoatrail #bluff #fiffydrink #popthatbottle
