Ch 25: The Attack Verse 2

Noah entered the makeshift operating room in the council building, their heart racing with adrenaline. They had been trained for this, but it had been a long time since they had performed surgery under such chaotic circumstances.

As they began to assess the injured council members, they couldn't help but think about the philosophical arguments that had been consuming them lately. Was it their duty as a doctor to heal anyone who needed it, regardless of their actions or beliefs? Or did they have a responsibility to prioritize those who were working towards the greater good?

But in this moment, he pushed those thoughts aside and focused on the task at hand. They washed his hands and donned his surgical gloves, his movements precise and calculated.

One of the council members, a man with a bullet wound in his shoulder, groaned in pain as Noah approached him. "Don't worry," Noah said, trying to calm him. "I'm going to take care of you."

As Noah worked, their mind couldn't help but drift to the events that had led them here. They had always believed in using technology to improve the human condition, but the apocalypse had forced them to confront the limitations of that belief. They had seen firsthand the ways in which technology could be used to harm, rather than heal.

But in this moment, they was doing what they could to heal those who needed it. As they worked, they hummed softly under their breath, letting the rhythm of the music guide their movements.

Hours passed as Noah operated on the injured council members, repairing broken bones, stitching up wounds, and doing everything in their power to prevent brain death while the nanites crudely knit together wounds. When they were finally finished, they stepped back, their hands shaking with exhaustion.

They looked at the people they had just operated on, wondering what their future held. Would they learn from this experience and work towards a better world? Or would they return to their old ways, using their power to harm rather than help?

Noah didn't know the answer. All they could do was hope that their actions had made a difference, however small. They began to pack up his medical supplies, ready to return to the survivors' settlement and continue his work, whatever that may be.

Went to a stupendously awesome session last night at/not at the Apple Store on Regent Street. As part of the Big Draw Festival, a cohort of lovely Apple Store employees herded a group of us down to the Royal Academy where wandered through the public spaces back into the studios where art-making magic has happened for 250 years. And as much work as I’ve made on the ipad, this was the first time I felt I got a proper entry into life drawing on it. Absolutely loved it: it was the quintessence of Steve Jobs assertion that Apple exists at the intersection of technology and the humanities. A narrative is not so much the story but the telling of it, the way the story is put together. While editing i should always keep the narrative in mind. Narrative can easily be directed to video editing as a whole.
