Cobra takes its New Years fireworks *very* seriously. Finally got a 788th HMS & Technoviper and am pretty impressed with the size. And the already great Technoviper looks great in 788th colors.

I am currently at the end of my two day rewatch of Renegades, and every time I rewatch this show I am reminded of how much I like this villain power couple. Even though they are canon in other media, they haven’t been treated with much care in the building of their relationship since the old comics. They feel like actual people—bad people, but really nonetheless.
When you go from Rage, the mild flattery and flirting but not quite there, it’s always business first and James striving to keep his company independent. Then there’s Enemy of my Enemy, as they inch closer to politeness, still business but the tension between them grows closer and more obvious that it apparently obvious to Mindbender. The sympathy she feels at the end of the episode when she flinches as the helmet drills into place for James, it implies that they are more than just co-workers because she’s never reacted that way when anyone else who defied Cobra Industries was punished with how the episode originally started with a scientist being exposed to being on Breaker’s blog. There’s a lot to talk about the writing in general.
When we get to one of top tier episodes Castle Destro which can be talked to high heaven, we got discuss Homecoming Parts 1 & 2 in which she’s wearing her new battle suit. It’s never explained in the first part, we straight up don’t know anything about it until the second part in which she says “It’s a gift from Mr. McCullen—I mean Destro”, she had to momentarily correct herself. Clearly adjusting to the events that happened two episodes prior. The layers keep adding to themselves.
Now getting to the huge piece Barnasstro cake, Castle Destro. After the Joes enter his castle and discussing the latest weapon, he asks Baroness and her first response is to disagree and that she isn’t needed. Now, after recounting some of the previous episodes, I notice that Baroness is trying to actively a) push down her feelings towards James and b) she’s aware how she’s overstepping their co-worker relationship as of late. I do feel like at that point she was trying to rein herself in, but Destro incites her to come. They have their cute villain dinner while watching the heroes fight for their lives. I know we can all talk about the dinner scene, but I wanna touch on the funny moment when Destro orders his team to destroy the plane (Baroness’ plane), and she immediately whips her head around at him, and he’s like “I’ll buy ye another.” That part always get me because it’s either the build up with their closeness or just how comfortable they are with each other that makes the joke work. When it comes to later part when they interrogate the Joes, he tries asking Baroness about the TechnoViper, and she immediately tries brushing over his concerns because Cobra Industries comes first! Bad way to continue a relationship after having a romantic dinner, Baroness. God, it makes you wonder if they were ever going to come back to that and make it the testing point of their relationship but oh well! Hasbro went chucked it away. The way that Destro tries to manually take control of the situation, implying he has some level honour like most of his comic and 80s series counterparts. He even takes the fall for the failure away from Baroness even though she expressed clear concerns about it, and after she clearly tried cover up the TechnoViper thing. He still cared about her regardless.
Then there’s Cutting Edge, when he just straight up sends an assassin. Clearly he learned from the last time in Enemy of my Enemy, but his determination to break free from Cobra is still strong. Though we could ask questions of how strong their connection is, as he legitimately watched his not yet-girl get her butt kicked. Sure he get hit first, but he was probably already that would happen in order to not arouse suspicion. He calls her after they reach Cobra tower, asking if she’s alright before suggesting that maybe Cobra Industries needs…a better leader. Props to him raising her up. She’s trying to overlook what he’s implying and wondering if he sent the assassin. Then she quickly hangs up, probably harkening back to episode three when he hung up on her. Again, so man layers to their relationship. And again I must wonder if he calls back again after Jinx left and probably got into a fight with the Baroness. He better have a make up present after all this. Honestly how much of that unspoken conversation about the TechnoViper is still there? How much are the writers willing to push to test their relationship of if Baroness would be loyal to James or to Cobra. God, the possibilities. I don’t think they are toxic, but the way the writers have certain dialogues that aren’t brought up again or the implications of the assassination attempt. Wondering if James is curious or concerned about how far her loyalty to Cobra is. Or more specifically the Commander.
Then there’s the series finale, in after Destro gets hit in his tank, Baroness’ first question is to ask of his status, but the Commander brushes over her concerns and orders her to stay on mission. Again her duelling loyalties clash but her loyalty to Cobra comes first. They could look into it later after they won? Oh look, the series is cancelled and Baroness got sucked into the MASS. James doesn’t know because we don’t know if he’s alive. The only person that made it out of the rubble was the Commander! I doubt he’s gonna dig up Destro after being exposed. Then we’re never gonna know because Hasbro decided to cancel it because it was a) they couldn’t have competing toy sales when they were planning a movie; b) the writers and executives said that second season’s plot was too similar to either the first G.I. Joe movie which makes no sense because the show would’ve still been in production after the first film aired or it was too similar to the upcoming G.I. Joe movie at the time, which brings in Hasbro not wanting competing toy sales; and finally c) Hasbro wanted to change Renegades so that it could be more like the Avengers??? All I know is either Hasbro had bs excuse or the writers and executives were really stumped to continue season two because they didn’t want it to be too similar to the movies which is weird because they let Marvin and Hershel be cousins in the series as they are in the movies. They make certain problems in the writing department, but writing a good plot wasn’t one of them.
Every time I rewatch this series, I honestly become more sad because it could’ve reached the heights it’s brethren series Transformers: Prime did, as they had a better villain cast than Prime to me in some cases. I love TF:P, but I can always criticize TF:P, the Decepticons were my favourite and half the storylines for them got dropped as the series went on. I don’t know if that would have happened with Cobra in Renegades because they were so good at letting some Cobra members have their own goals like Tomax and Xamot, but I wish the Cobra crew got the same esteem as the Decepticons did.
sometimes im like “oh baronestro wasnt THAT great” and then i rewatch renegades and im on the floor like “i was wrong i was so SO wrong they are TOO GOOD AND IM GOING TO DIE”

The "Giant Cobra Mech (Mark II) is a humanoid robot that has a cobra cowl designed into the front of torso and a cobra head. It is 28 ft tall with three fingered hands on each arm.
One was used by Major Bludd's forces while in a race with G.I. Joe to recover the Ion Correlator, although it was diverted by, and later fell into a crevice with, the stone guardian of the palace that the Weather Dominator component fell into. The Stone Guardian had been unwittingly activated by one of three Joes that had entered the palace first during the second animated mini-series.
