Coastermaynia 2024 Day 25- Skull Mountain

It’s Coastermaynia time! This is the first of three submissions I have for this year. Today’s prompt is Skull Mountain, an Intamin Family Coaster located at Six Flags Great Adventure. I’ll admit that it’s been a while since I’ve drawn this guy, so I opted to depict him in his usual outfit. But as a nod to his coaster’s enclosed nature, I gave him something to do— exploring a dark cave.

Skull Mountain is Great Adventure’s resident psychologist, specializing in grief counseling. Though there’s one thing that sets his services apart from everyone else— Skull Mountain works exclusively with the departed! Thanks to a book he happened go stumble upon one day, SM can communicate with the souls of those who still roam the earth after pasing. Through several sessions, SM helps these souls let go of their “unfinished buisness” and ascend to the afterlife. Outside of his job, SM is an avid listener of heavy metal and is the first person to bring out the Halloween decorations. Skull Mountain is friendly and empathetic, though he has no issue voicing his concerns/opinions (which is especially helpful when Joker decides to go all-in on that week’s trending meme).

Silly (non-canon) story time…

Batman, Skull Mountain, Superman, Toro and Joker go on a “guys trip”. Not wanting to rely on taxis or a ride-hailing app, the group decides to rent a car.

At the car rental place, Toro has to deal with an issue relating to the group’s chosen accommodation— he leaves the rest of the group to choose their car, confident that they’ll pick something within the budget.

Ultimately, the group is able to secure a car for a relatively cheap price; it’s a fairly new car, so it has the usual modern safety features and phone connectivity. Toro is happy to recieve a text from Batman that states these things— but Batman crucially doesn’t say what kind of car it is. This is deliberate on his part, and the group knows that Toro is gonna chew them out for it (of course, Joker finds this hilarious and struggles not to burst out laughing when he hears Toro approaching). “Sounds like you guys found a good car, I’m so glad we’ll be able to drive around without having nothing left to spend-“

Toro gets a good look at the car.

“You MOTHERFUCKERS!”

It’s a red Kia Soul.

Needless to say, Toro despises every second he has to spend in the car that inspired the park to wrap a gaudy advertisement over his coaster’s “B” train for over a decade.

So, the facade of Skull Mountain was damaged recently— the “skull” part of the mountain lost its lower jaw. But since my SM personification’s mask is only an upper half…say goodbye to that jacket!

A quick doodle I did this past week. Felt nice to draw something that didn’t need to be ultra-polished!

With the recent announcement of “The Flash: Vertical Velocity” on his mind, Joker has already come up with a way to mess with the ride’s associated Coasterdroid.

“Hey Harley-- You’d know what would be funny?”

“What?”

“When Flash opens, we should give them a baby doll to hold”.

Harley smirks, knowing where this is heading.

“What are they going to do with the baby?”

“Well, I don’t know if you can believe it…but we’re gonna ask them to place the baby in a microwave!”

Joker can’t stop himself from laughing.

“Best part is-- they’ll have NO idea what they’re doing! The look on their face is gonna be epic!”

“Actually,” Skull Mountain interrupts; Joker and Harley turn their attention to him.

“Wouldn't it be funnier if they had seen the movie beforehand? That they were in on the joke?”

“Nah, man! That would ruin the whole point. It’s funny because it’s unexpected!”

“I feel like they won’t be as endeared to you two as you think they will after this stunt”.

“Oh, we’re not doing this to endear them to us-- it’s just to amuse us. Mostly me”.

Skull Mountain is unimpressed; “Yeah, I figured so-- why did I even try to help?”
