Sorry I’ve had spotty activity! I’ve been going through a rough depressive episode, probably the worst one I’ve had in a very long time. But! I’m back on antidepressants and still as in love with our EggBoy as ever!!! Taking prompts again!!

Ooh opinion that I’m gonna maybe get hate for!!

So. Tootsie, the musical. I saw it because I love santino fontana and want to support original Greg from CEG. I didn’t think it was a story that needed to be told again. It’s not appropriate for the time and it is inherently a dated story. BUT I think the reason they won best book was not because of the things that have been labeled as transphobic and misogynistic but because there was so much theatre humor!! The underlying storyline is extremely problematic. I’m not contesting that. But people forget that people who have been in the theatre industry for YEARS are the ones voting and it has jokes designed for them. As someone who has been involved with theatre for 13 years, I can easily say the theatre jokes are what cracked me up. In addition, the female characters aren’t the most developed. I agree. But, we do see a badass female producer, an independent career based woman who isn’t afraid to advocate for herself, and a stereotypical anxious female that learns how to be confident. I wish these characters had more stage time but alas they didn’t. That is problematic because with the little time they had, they really did carry the show on their backs. The music is catchy, albeit not life changing or extremely original, it’s fun! ‘What’s gonna happen’ is basically me on a daily basis, ‘gone,gone,gone’ is a total bop, and ‘Jeff sums it up’ give me a reason to sing ‘ya really fucked it up, sca do do do do dow.’ So yes, tootsie is problematic. But, there are still things to consider before you scream No tOnYs!¡! Or bOyCotT ToOtSiE!¡! When it comes down to it, it’s based on an iconic movie, which seems to be a formula for success right now. Not everything is a life changing piece of art. Remember, broadway is sustainable because of tourists, therefore shows need to appeal to the masses. That’s why shows like mean girls and tootsie appeal to people. They are fun. In the end, broadway is a buissness like everything else. Obviously capitalism sucks but that’s how it works right now. Now, we see original shows doing well but that just can’t always be the case. ANYWAY, thanks for coming to my tedtalk. Pls be nice to me. I KNOW TOOTSIE IS PROBLEMATIC OK THX
