THE NOT-ULTIMATE OBVIOUSLY PARTIAL AND INCOMPLETE GUIDE TO EATIN' IN GOTHAM
So you're coming to Gotham City. Where does the discerning traveler get their nosh on? `Cause there's no WAY that we're eating at TGI Friday's.
Well, you're in luck, friendo. This native is going to spill on some of the most famous places in Gotham, as well as less-known local joints that everyone should try.
LUIGI'S Best. Fookin'. Pizza. In. Gotham. Yeah, they sell by the slice, but getchaself a pie. It's worth it. Classic sicilian, the crust is JUST a hair thicker than norm, but still bendy and thin - it's just not bendy enough to drop all the toppings on the floor when you pick it up. Best of all worlds, amazing homemade sauce. 10/10.
CHEZ VOUS Y'know the stereotypes about French restaurants being snooty and overpriced? Yeah, toss `em out the window. Chez Vous is the only French takeout joint I know. It helps that the Tarte A La Tomate is basically a puff-pastry pizza with mustard instead of red sauce. It's all very rustic French, even slipping in some Basque cuisine, and it's all damn good - but the best part is it won't break your wallet. Twelve bucks'll get you through almost any dish on the menu. Also, yes, like half the menu is fully vegan. 9/10, they lose a point for pretending they don't know what you're talking about when you ask for "the French pizza thing".
KATYA'S Formerly "Katya's Italian Kitchen", 3rd Street. Still called that according to the sign that they haven't changed yet. Just plain good Italian. Homemade pasta, and the mushroom tortellini is perfect. It's an open secret that it's a mafia front, but it stays in business because A) the Zucco family hasn't really done anything outside of white collar crime since Tony Zucco got fingered for murder a decade-plus ago, and B) it's pretty deece. 8/10, a little overpriced but solid, don't spring for the calzones.
BIG BELLY BURGER There's about twenty locations in Gotham, and if you want fast food, yeah it's damn good. They used to have the HQ here and they still treat their restaurants like they're the 'flagships' for the franchise. Expect a big honkin' slab of steamed meat with gooey white cheese in the middle, whatever veg you want (they nickle-and-dime you for anything past pickle and onion but they have a REALLY impressive selection anyway) and the trademark Big Belly Sauce (which I think is just thousand island without pickle but it's still good). The only weakness here is the fries, which are okay, but not great. 7/10, gives me heartburn every time.
BAT-BURGER This place gains points from my point of view by relentlessly mocking the asshats who keep trying to make Gotham a worse place to live. WHY YES I WOULD LIKE TO JOKERIZE THOSE FRIES! In all honesty it's a good mid-grade fast food place that gets extra points for proper seasoning on everything. Just don't go to the one in Old Gotham, the manager is constantly drunk and I doubt it's EVER been properly cleaned. 7/10 for most locations, 3/10 for OG.
THE ICEBERG LOUNGE Okay, y'know how it's an open secret that Katya's is a mafia front? The Iceberg Lounge isn't a secret, it relishes in it. This is Ozzie Cobblepot's one 100% legit venture, which is why it keeps surviving when he gets thrown in the slammer (I think it's technically owned by a separate property management company now, so they can't touch it anymore…). Big band music, glorious art deco themeing, and legit the best seafood in the city. 9/10, if you can afford the splurge it's worth it.
CUBBY'S DINING CAR This diner has been in business since 1937, and they've barely changed the menu since 1937. That means that yes, you can still get a hot Dr. Pepper here, and yes, it's still gross. No-frills breakfast standards and burgers. The "Cub Sauce" is just chili sauce, it's a nightmare for the digestion but it's almost worth it. Bonus points for having a loose meat "miscellaneous poultry" sammich they call "Skymeat". The owner claims that this is a local thing from West Virginia, I really don't buy it. 5/10, menu is a mixed bag but it's an experience, and they never close which is nice.
LOU'S CANDY SHOPPE While nominally 'just a candy shop', this place actually has a really good menu. Old fashioned malts and egg creams, Gotham style dogs that are as good as any street cart but prepared in a marginally cleaner environment, and even cheesesteaks (with whiz, always). The walls of Lou's are plastered with Gotham history, which Lou himself refers to as 'his trophies', basically anything that he lived through. 8/10, there's only three tables or this would probably rate higher.
IL-SHAN-TEN If you want decent Japanese food in Gotham Proper, this isn't a bad spot. It's halfway between an izakaya and a diner, and they make really good donburi. The place used to be a mahjong parlor (hence the name) and it's evidently gotten kinda trendy lately? Expect a crowd, but not a bad crowd. 6/10, a little overpriced, but serviceable.
THE GOTHAM BAR AND GRILL They say this place used to be good years ago. I don't believe it. As a bar, TGBaG is halfway passable, so long as you don't want a cocktail more complex than a boilermaker. As a grill, it's godawful. Burgers come in two varieties - underdone and burnt. Steaks are stingy, the fish and chips tastes indescribable (and not in a good way, but in a Cthulhu kinda way). Fries are passable. 2/10, avoid, the name does not make it a local institution, and the fact that it's been in business since `39 makes it an anomaly, not a mark of pride.
BLACK BASS BAR Now this is more like it. Closed from six AM to noon, seedy as all get out but lively and fun. The embodiment of a dive bar. Classic Brit style fish and chips, decent mini pizzas, cheap and greasy. 8/10, no, the bartender won't sleep with you but she's fun to hang with.
FOOD JUNCTON I think it's supposed to say "junction". Had to end this with my favorite anomaly. This place is right outside the stadium (GO KNIGHTS) and it's literally an old carnival food trailer that the put on a foundation and called good. It serves gyros and kebabs in various forms, all to go unless you want to sit on the curb (which a lot of people do). The only drink they serve is mystery-flavor Kool-Aid. Cheap as balls, homemade tzatziki or "happy sauce" (which is equally homemade ranch that they refuse to call ranch), always good. 12/10, a must-have.
Alright, that's it, if anyone has any requests for a short review I'll add `em in later with a reblog.

Oh shit guess what they're opening next to my local bar? A ballet academy. Reminds me how the original TGI Fridays in Manhattan that pioneered the "fern" singles bar was located just down the block from a stewardesses' dorm

The reason BK and In-n-Out are raising prices isn't exactly because they have to pay their employees more, BK is already in the clear about that, but because they have to pay their suppliers more. In reality every company that pays some of their employees minimum wage will have more costs to pay, and that cost gets passed on to their next clients. And since fast food is just the end of a long chain of suppliers, all those 2 cent price increase cumulate into dollar increases.
And because everything will cost a dollar or two more, minimum wage workers actually aren't any better off.
Ya, I know it's not all going to the employees of that particular location, current increase is more toward the employees than supply chain stuff though.
Consider that the CA min wage went up from $13 in 2020, incrementally till the start of this year it was at $16, which is where it's still at, unless you're a fast food worker, then it's $20 and that started on April 1.
Product and supply shouldn't have gone up then because the beef supplier doesn't have to contend with the extra wage increase, not legally at least.
Gonna tighten up the supply of good employees, since why am I going to go and deal with karen over at wall mart for $16 bucks when I can make $20 in the kitchen at McD's.
Which a lot of these places are going to have to increase wages to get people applying, WallMart had to do it when Target instituted a $15 starting wage across the board or min wage in that area whichever is higher.
So the +$4 on April 1 is aimed at the employees, I also will guess several different groups likely decided to take a hit between Jan and April to try and spread out price increases some might still be some merit to the supply chain thing but the jump to 20 is just fast food places.
Oddly enough, minimum wage in the state for tipped employees is the same as for not tipped employees, so Chip over at TGI Fridays is making $16 an hour plus tips, which doesn't mean don't tip because he gets taxed on them if you tip or not, but that's nice for the tipped employees who may wonder why they didn't get the $20, except panera since they're not tipped.

Canton gets state's second Raising Cane's- Another popular southern-based chicken chain is planting its flag in Southeast Michigan.
Baton Rouge, Louisiana-based Raising Cane’s is coming to Canton Township after the township board of trustees on Nov. 28 approved plans for a location at 44250 Ford Road. The chicken joint will take over a space previously occupied by TGI Fridays.
Raising Cane’s features chicken tenders, chicken sandwiches, coleslaw, Texas toast, and sweet tea by the jug. The Canton Raising Cane’s will be around 3,700 square feet, according to Township documents. The restaurant will have dine-in and drive-thru service. The space will include about 1,650-square-feet for indoor dining, and an outdoor patio area.
Raising Cane’s officials did not respond to a Crain’s request for more information.
The Canton location will be Michigan’s second, following an East Lansing location that opened in October 2022 at 301 E. Grand River Ave.

Jackson-based Grand River Brewery opens today at 1 E. 14 Mile Road in Clawson. The new brewery, which also has locations in Jackson and Marshall, will operate out of the space that previously housed restaurant Pumachug. Pumachug closed in November 2022.
The space features sit-down dining on one side, with seating for 50, and a 49-seat bar in an adjoining space. Grand River Brewery will have a staff of 50 employees. Grand River Brewery will offer 15 draft beers, and five taps featuring batched cocktails. Food offered will include a Nashville Hot Chicken sandwich, burgers, woodfire pizza and steaks.

New Irish pub now open in Clawson- The sister bar of a popular Rochester hangout is now open in Clawson.
Gus’ Snug opened on Dec. 4 at 38 S. Main St. in Clawson. The new Clawson spot is a venture from Dimitry Goyfman and Kevin VanDyke, the co-owners of O'Connor's Public House. The opening of Gus’ Snug is the first expansion for O'Connor's in its 19-year history. Gus’ Snug takes over a space previously occupied by Moose Winooski’s.
At 3,000 square feet, the Clawson spot at 38 S. Main St. is about half the size of O'Connor's, Goyfman said. Gus' Snug is about 3,000-square-feet, nearly half the size of Rochester's O’Connor’s. The Clawson pub has seating for 100 guests, including a 20-seat bar. Plans call for a 70-seat outdoor patio and biergarten in the rear, and a 30-seat outdoor space on Main Street.
The menu includes corned beef from Grobbel's and Fairway Packing Co. in Detroit's Eastern Market, as well as fish and chips and shepherd's pie. Gus' Snug's has nearly 20 draft beer options that include Irish favorites like Guinness, Harp and Smithwick's.
Goyfman previously told Crain’s he and VanDyke invested about $700,000 into the business and are projecting about $2 million in annual revenues.

TGI FRIDAY-NAH REVIEW
Hello, so today I went to TGI Friday’s located at 2 Hawes Way in Stoughton. Don’t get me wrong, the wait isn’t long at ALL!
Once I got seated, the waiter came and asked if my teacher and I wanted drinks to start off with. I got water with slices of lemon and my teacher asked for some tea even though they don’t sell it. The waiter hooked my teacher up.
Like I said it was fast. The waiter came back with our drinks within seconds. It seemed like she just left and came back and the restaurant was kind of packed that day with big tables with a lot of groups. I wished I knew the lady's name again. The vibe I was getting from her was that she was very spiritual. Once again shout out to that waiter.
When I looked at the menu, I really didn’t care for it. I’m a chicken broccoli alfredo queen! Once I saw they didn’t have that I was like “Ughhh” and all my teacher got was mozzarella sticks. My last pickings was the spinach and cheese dips with the chips and it was supposed to be grilled chicken and shrimp with mashed potatoes and broccoli because that’s how it looked in the picture.
Again the food came VERY fast but once I saw my food I was confused on how there was marinara sauce and cheese under my shrimp and grilled chicken. I’m not going to lie. I've tried it just to see if I’ll like it but it was disgusting. The only thing I liked was my broccoli and water with a slice of lemon.
Personally if you are big on wings and bbq ribs you should really go because they do have a lot of different types of new sauces.
So, what I can say about TGI Friday’s at this location is that it has fast service. Also, I give it a 4/10 stars.
APPLEBEES SHORT AND SWEET REVIEW
I enjoyed my appetizer but my main dish was too spicy for me so they took it off my receipt. I found that to be very nice of them and they went above and beyond for me, great service!
I would go there again and tell all of my friends of how I was treated with great service and respect. I did enjoy being there. I do thank them for all of their hard work and how polite they were to me.
When I got another main dish which was the chicken broccoli alfredo, it was so great and I enjoyed it.
There is only one thing about it: if you're into a lot of the alfredo being saucy you should ask for extra sauce. I liked the broccoli so I asked for more broccoli.  So in conclusion: I would rate APPLEBEES an 8/10 stars!

TGI Friday’s Happy Hour
Tumblr media
Fridays are for long island cocktails, cheesy fries, and hanging out with friends – at least in my book that is. That’s why I was thrilled to find out that TGI Friday’s food and drink specials can satisfy my cravings not only at the end of the week, but every day in between, as well. Even better? TGI Friday’s Happy Hour is an ongoing event, taking place from the time the restaurant opens to the time they close for the night. Here’s a look at how to save some cash and get cheap drinks and appetizers by ordering off the Friday’s 5 menu.
Does Fridays have Happy Hour?
Tumblr media
TGI Friday’s advertises that their happy hour takes place all day, every day. The restaurant franchise has happy hour deals on their Friday’s 5 Menu. Why is it called the Friday’s 5 menu? Well, customers can get a variety of drinks and appetizers for just five bucks at any time of day. Some of the most popular menu items on the Friday’s 5 menu include: - Go Big June Bug – A fruity cocktail made with melon and banana liquor, Malibu rum, lemon juice, and pineapple juice - Aperol Spritz – A classic cocktail with Aperol, Prosecco, and soda - Skillet Queso Chips – Seasoned potato chips with melted cheese, hot poblano queso, pico, jalapeños, and cilantro - Coconut Libre – A bold cocktail with lime juice, cola, and rum. - Loaded Cheese Fries – Friday’s signature French fries topped with melted cheese, bacon, and chives. Customers must be seated at the bar to get $5 appetizers.
Tumblr media
What time is happy hour at TGI Friday’s? According to the TGI Friday’s website, happy hour is all day, every day. However, happy hour specials are subject to change and may vary by location. Check with your local TGI Friday’s menu to confirm which drinks and appetizers are on special for happy hour.
Happy Hour Drink of the Month
TGI Friday’s is not currently running a drink of the month promotion.
Does TGI Fridays have half price appetizers?
As of now, TGI Friday’s does not have a promotion for half price appetizers. However, there are currently a few appetizer specials on the menu, including: - Beverage, appetizer, and entree for $12.99 for lunch - Two appetizers, two entrees, and two desserts starting at $20 - $5 happy hour apps in the TGI Friday’s bar
Tumblr media
Other Popular Specials
Note: Due to changes in the restaurant industry, Fridays has reduced their menu, so you may notice some slight changes or some of your favorites missing. However, there are several specials still on the menu that you can enjoy when you dine-in or order carry-out. Some of these include the Guinness Pub Burger, Philly Cheesesteak Burger, Loaded Cheese Fry Burger, Big Ribs Whiskey-Glazed, and Philly Cheesesteak Egg Rolls.   To see even more deals from your favorite restaurants, check out our Fast Food Happy Hour page. The post TGI Friday’s Happy Hour appeared first on Fast Food Menu Prices. Read the full article

With around 14 million annual visitors, Niagara Falls is already a potential cash cow for the many area businesses serving tourists. But at some of them, visitors contentious fees added to their bills — and CBC Marketplace has found they're growing. If noticed at all, tourists typically see them next to provincial sales tax or the city's Municipal Accommodation Tax.
Tourists and critics say that placement on the bill gives the appearance of a government-mandated charge. But that is not the case.
Just as there is no consistency in how much — Marketplace found they ranged from three to 12 percent — there is no single name for the added fees. They go by NFDF, Niagara Falls Destination Fee, TIF, or Tourism Improvement Fee. There's even an LF, or Luxury Fee, among many others. While they are at every hotel, restaurant or attraction, random spot checks conducted by Marketplace over nearly a decade show number of businesses adding fees to customer bills is growing, as is the amount.
For instance, a $150/night hotel charge would see up to an additional $18. "It's a total cash grab," a server at Milestone's restaurant told an undercover Marketplace producer. When asked by customers, she says she "cringe[s] every time I'm about it because that's what it is."
The restaurant charges a six percent "Luxury Fee" at its Niagara Fallsview location, a charge that exists at most others of the chain, according to the restaurant's parent company, Foodtastic.
Critics of added fees say they lack transparency when an array of names is. Many visitors may not know the Marketplace spot check. In a hidden camera spot check of hotels and restaurants, journalists asked for an explanation of the added fees and misleading from front-line staff.
At the Days Inn, a staffer described it as a Tax before correcting herself and calling it the Mandatory Charge, which the hotel combines with the recently instituted Municipal Accommodation Tax (MAT) of the only fee collected by the city. The Radisson front desk described it as an environmental fee: "It pays to recycle."
The Skylon Tower overlooking the Falls charges the lowest figure documented, an added three percent on top of the admission price. Staff explained Attractions and Promotions Fee pays for renovations and landscaping, among other things, but could be if requested.
At a nearby TGI Fridays, a server said the NFDF, or Niagara Falls Destination Fee, "goes towards improving the tourist experience" at IHOP server said he had to explain the 10 percent NFDF as "mandatory" and going toward "maintenance and fireworks." The city's famed fireworks are paid for by a separate fund, which receives money from the MAT.
Ching opposes fees that could as taxes and is concerned by front-line staff providing false information. "I would say this is very problematic," he said.
The server at Milestones was upfront about the Luxury Fee. "I always joke that it should be called the BS instead of the LF," she told Marketplace journalists posing as tourists. She described the fees as "insulting because the prices are jacked up in tourist areas already."
The Ontario government has allowed destination marketing fees in tourist communities since 2004. Multiple communities adopted such fees, including Niagara Falls. The city also now collects the MAT from hotel stays. The money funds tourist initiatives in the city.
But the fees to the MAT are collected by a third party, like a tourism authority is solely another revenue stream for the businesses that them, according to Thomson.
While hotels show the added fees when a reservation on the Marketplace visits does not provide notice of the menus or signs.
Marketplace reached out to all 12 establishments we visited. The parent companies of Days Inn, Milestones, Embassy Suites and Starbucks sent us statements, saying they don't control the pricing and charging those extra fees is unique to the independently operated locations in Niagara Falls.
The Radisson said it is four percent resort fee is on the low end compared to its competitors and goes toward amenities guests can enjoy while staying at its property, not an environmental fee Marketplace was told.
The company said it's working with staff to ensure the messaging is clear moving forward. In 2017, Ontario's then-Tourism Minister Eleanor McMahon told Marketplace: "If businesses in Niagara are not being transparent and they're not telling people what the fee is used for, then not only am I concerned about that, but we'll engage and do something about it."
And yet there is no indication the government took any action. Marketplace shared its latest findings with the Ontario Ministry of Tourism, Culture, and Sport and asked if it would investigate how the fees are marketed and collected. Instead, it directed us to Ontario's Ministry of Public and Business Service Delivery, which said businesses cannot misrepresent consumer fees as taxes, and any misrepresentation about the purpose of a fee may be considered a violation of the Consumer Protection Act.
The ministry also said any corporation convicted of an offence could be fined up to $250,000. Ministry investigations can begin, but there is no indication the provincial government plans to investigate or engage in enforcement.
Longtime Niagara Falls Mayor Jim Diodati believes businesses should be transparent and inform customers about the fees before they purchase them, as well as explain why they are necessary.
However, he claims that the city is powerless to effect change. Diodati is calling on the province to use its powers to "investigate to find out if it's allowed, if it's legal, and the question is if it's a good idea."
He does defend the addition of fees for these businesses, especially with the devastating impact of the COVID-19 pandemic across the tourism sector.
Though he acknowledges that restaurants and attractions could take a different approach, such as raising the cost of their rooms, meals, and admission fees rather than adding fees that many tourists don't understand.
Diodati has advice for tourists. "I always tell people, first off, make sure [it's] buyer beware, and if it's on a hotel bill, you should have received an email confirmation. You should have read it, right? Do your diligence, do your homework, right?"
And if it's not on the bill, he says, "Well, then you don't have to pay it."
