Happy night before the WNBA regular season starts to everybody who celebrates! I've gotten a couple of asks about trying to get into the W and which teams to support etc. etc. The best way to actually get into it, as with anything, is probably to just start watching games and seeing what team you vibe with. But I also figured I'd give y'all a ranking of my support of teams based solely on my opinion, partly based on player/playing style and partly based on vibes.
New York Liberty: Listen, I'm not actually a Liberty fan if we're honest but Breanna Stewart is my GOAT, and my favorite player of all time. Therefore where she goes, I go. Also on the Liberty, we have JJ who I adore (and has apparently locked a new level) and Betnijah Laney who is so underrated but so fucking good. If you're gonna root for the Liberty, a reminder that Sandy Brondello might have coached a team to a championship, but it doesn't mean she isn't gonna make you question her coaching at least once every game. When the Liberty are great, they're GREAT. When they're not, well...
Connecticut Sun: The closest I have to a home team and home to the most versatile player in the country, Alyssa Thomas. Can do everything, will do everything and is still so underrated. Brionna Jones is back from injury this year and I'm so excited for her and DB to be a lethal frontcourt duo. And if you're here for the Huskies, MoJeff is back home baby and I have a feeling ONO is going to take a big step this year. The issue with the Sun is they are very much always a bridesmaid, never a bride meaning they make it to the semis/finals but never win, will things change? Stay tuned!
Seattle Storm: For the longest time, because of Stewie, this was my team and I'll always have a soft-spot for them. They've gone out and made themselves into a super team of sorts with a core-4 of SDS-Jewell-Nneka-Ezi and while the pre-season hasn't quite shown that super team, I think time to gel will make them as good as ever. They also have a young core that I'm really excited to watch them develop with Nika (MY GIRL MADE IT) and Jordan Horston. Seattle's culture is one of the best in the league and while they might not win this year, if you're looking to stan for a long time, Seattle, with new team ownership member Sue Bird, is a solid choice!
Minnesota Lynx: The dynasty in rebuild. If a man hadn't ruined it, this would still be Maya Moore's team and she would be the face of the league but I digress. You know who the Lynx do have though? Napheesa. Fucking. Collier. My girl has been underrated for so much of her career, robbed of so many things (*cough* NPOY her senior year *cough*) but watch, this year or the next, Phee is gonna make the league give her her things i.e she's gonna be MVP. Also in Minny, your all-Rookie team favorites Dorka and Diamond are back and my girl AP is also in the mix. Again like Seattle, this is a team with a solid winning culture and if you wanna be here a long time, Cheryl Reeve will figure it out.
Washington Mystics: No Elena Delle-Donne and Mike Thibault is clearly tanking for Paige (mans is literally admitting it this not an assumption) so if this is your team, you'll be good soon, but probably not this year. Despite that thought, the Mystics always just kinda figure it out a little bit and I'm excited to see how Shakira Austin develops. And of course my MVLi is on the Mystics and she's gonna get a lot of playing time and I'm just very excited for her.
Phoenix Mercury: The Mercury have no business being this high on any list I know but they have DT and BG and I'm always gonna love those two. How far can a coach whose only qualification is basically being a "girl dad" take a WNBA team? Well I guess we'll find out (it's looking unlikely). Also the potential for drama on this team is always high because if you've seen the infamous picture, they have Kahleah Copper and Sophia Cunningham, what could possibly go wrong right?
LA Sparks: Before we get into now, let's get into the past because this team once upon a time had Nneka-Candace-Chelsea and fumbled all three. Just think about that. ANYWAYS moving on, Curt Miller (traitor of all time) is an interesting character, some love him, some hate him, but most can agree he's relatively a good coach. I genuinely do not know what's gonna happen but I think Rickea and Cam have the potential to become one of the best duos in the league eventually. Also Kia Nurse? Apparently in a mood to be a menace and I'm here for it.
Dallas Wings: Arike and Satou. That is it. That is all. I personally think Dallas is one good move (idk what move but it definitely wasn't a good move to trade Crystal) away from becoming a perennial championship contender. Arike and Satou is a good duo to start with but they're missing something and I can't quite put my finger on it. Either way, this is team built for offense and when they're winning, it's fun to watch, when they're not well...it's a good thing I'm not that invested. ALSO LOU IS BACK FOR THEM THIS YEAR!!
Indiana Fever: Never underestimate the Fever's ability to fuck it up. A lot of new fans are about to realize that this franchise does not know what the fuck they're doing for the most part. You hope having two generational talents in AB and CC will change that and I genuinely hope it does, because I would love to have them higher on my list. But for now, with absolutely no trust in anybody on that coaching staff, I'mma just watch it play out and hope for the best. Also shoutout Nalyssa Smith who I think is gonna get overlooked but have a great season.
Las Vegas Aces: Is it blasphemous to have the reigning champs this low? Potentially but blasphemy is also in treating a pregnant woman like shit and not putting your teammate with domestic violence charges/allegations on blast. Listen I'm not a complete hater and I do genuinely think the world of A'ja Wilson and Chelsea Gray. But I hate their us vs the world mentality and I'm not a huge Becky Hammon fan (that woman can coach her ass off though). Despite all of that, Vegas is still a fun team to watch and I expect them to continue to be the best team in the league.
Chicago Sky: GOOD FUCKING RIDDANCE JAMES WADE. The Sky are this low for me solely because it feels like a brand new team. They've lost a lot and gained a lot and I'm so excited to see Angel and Kamilla be the twin towers. More than anything I'm very excited to see T-Spoon as their head coach. Ngl though, beyond that, nothing really moves me and the Sky as an organization, we all saw the press conference room, really, really, really don't move me.
Atlanta Dream: Honestly they just kinda dropped this low for no reason other than for some reason, I just don't really care about them? But it's also because I keep forgetting that they have Tina. Fucking. Charles on their team now, which means if I ever do this again, they'll be much higher because Tina Charles is AMAZING and I love her and she raises this ceiling of this team to something else. Also very excited to see Rhyne Howard progress along with her.
That was long for no reason really and I think it was more me ranting then anything of actual help but it's W season lovelies, prepare to potentially be sick of me! WBB IS BACK!!

I’m slowly inching my way forward in Rebirth, and I have to say I am actually really delighted with Cait Sith so far. It’s not like I know yet how he works in this canon, but still… lol I see you Reeve. “It feels good to do good”? Hanging his head in shame at the sight of the Avalanche wanted poster? Giving an impromptu lecture on the history of Corel Prison and lamenting that it’s not living up to its potential? I see you Reeve.
Also, Cait Sith is friggin adorable, singing a meow song to guests with his little Scottish voice and having to jump to reach elevator buttons.
Progressed a little further and OMG they showed us Reeve doing his thing. He appears to indeed be doing both genuinely joining Avalanche and spying for Shinra at the same time, if enjoying himself too much and showing too much of himself is anything to go by. Plus, Tseng is clearly aware of what he’s doing and went from him to Rufus to report on Aerith’s position… although it’s not clear yet whether anybody but Tseng knows this, and we DO know the Turks have some mixed feelings about lots of things, so it’ll be interesting to see where this goes. I’m pleased they managed to keep “Cait Sith invites himself to join the party” while also making it more plausible, ie he joined up by being aggressively helpful.
Also, everybody knows that Cait Sith is being controlled by somebody and is something resembling a robot, like without even questioning it. L O L. Of course, they lightly questioned him and he immediately jumped to I AM NOBODY IMPORTANT JUST A LOW LEVEL SHINRA EMPLOYEE WORKING A JOB DON’T WORRY ABOUT IT, so maybe they assumed he was an autonomous robot not unlike Chadley until that moment, who knows. The excess of magic and whimsy in Rebirth has made me realize that these people do indeed live in a world of magic that is sometimes very silly, they’re not gonna question the existence of a sentient magic cat robot person, it’ll only be a shock when they realize one of the Shinra directors was expressing himself by helping them and singing a silly meow song. And also reporting on their movement to Tseng, because if he doesn’t prove his loyalty to Rufus his job could be in danger. So what if he helps them a little too enthusiastically and has an absolute blast doing it?
(Hahahaaaaa my fanfic Reeve is much better at and more concerned with hiding this than canon Reeve, I can’t even tell if he’s actually hiding it from people who aren’t Tseng or not. He’s at least hiding it from his assistant, probably. Oh dear I knew I should have finished my fanfics before Rebirth, even though they aren’t supposed to be fully based on the remake trilogy I am definitely gonna feel obliged to do some rewrites.)
(It does please me to note that there is so far zero reason to see Cait Sith as a separate person from Reeve, very clearly he just basically is Reeve, and we were also shown that he was using his computer to photoshop the wanted posters at a time he also should be actively controlling Cait Sith. Yayyyyy headcanon accurate so far!)
It really does delight me that Reeve is having way too much fun doing this. Of course he is, the man’s horribly repressed.
And Cait Sith is indeed fun to play!
Look, there has been so much else incredibly good and fun and interesting about Rebirth, but Reeve is, still, my favorite, and he’s undoubtedly not as common to talk about as, say, Zack, so I am just gonna commit to being a person who just rambles about Reeve on tumblr periodically because I love him.
I’m just at the desert sidequests section after completing all the Good Saucer/Corel Prison plot—fantastic job with Barret’s character development, by the way—and I am so psyched for the 1000% more Reeve content this game is bestowing upon me. I’m just gonna state for the record real quick that as of right now, I think:
-he controls Cait Sith with his mind, with a magic ability, and Cait Sith is also largely a robot
-he is playing both sides, attempting to mitigate his guilt and the evil things Shinra does by helping Avalanche, while also passing information on them to Tseng (who passes it on to Rufus) probably to prove his loyalty and keep his position
-I haven’t totally decided whether this was all his own idea or if somebody told him to go spy on them, but he is clearly way too into the Join Avalanche part of the plan and is going above and beyond on his own initiative
-because we were directly shown Tseng’s involvement, if the Marlene kidnapping happens, I think it will 100% be something Tseng sets up as insurance. It wouldn’t be Reeve’s idea, not with how sympathetic he is towards Avalanche, and Tseng has some history there and knows where Marlene is and how much she means to them.
Okay, I suspect I started repeating myself at a few points in there so I’m gonna stop. Prepare yourselves for me to just lose my mind and ramble every time Cait Sith and/or Reeve do anything remotely important.

Nick Visser at HuffPost:
A fraternity member who directed monkey noises at a Black University of Mississippi student during an anti-war demonstration was kicked out of the organization on Friday after video of the encounter spread on social media. “Phi Delta Theta General Headquarters is aware of the video regarding the student protest at the University of Mississippi,” the organization wrote in a statement on Sunday. “The racist actions in the video were those of an individual and are antithetical to the values of Phi Delta Theta and the Mississippi Alpha chapter.” “The responsible individual was removed from membership on Friday, May 3.”
The confrontation took place during student demonstrations at the University of Mississippi, or Ole Miss, on Thursday. Protesters gathered to voice their opposition to the U.S.’ support of Israel during the country’s ongoing war against Hamas following the Oct. 7 attacks, part of a growing wave of demonstrations on university campuses around the country. As a small group of students chanted “Free Palestine” and “Stop the Genocide,” they were confronted by a far larger bloc of counter-protesters. Videos of the encounter showed the counter-protest group growing aggressive, surrounding and yelling at the demonstrators. In a disturbing moment, a white student is seen making monkey noises directed at a Black woman as others taunt and cheer.
Videos of the counter-protesters were shared widely on social media and prompted support and adulation from Republicans. Mississippi Gov. Tate Reeves (R) said the response “warms my heart.” Rep. Mike Collins (R-Ga.) added his own cheers as the Black student was jeered, writing: “Ole Miss taking care of business.” Jaylin Smith, 24, told CNN she was the woman in the video. The Daily Mississippian, the university’s student newspaper, reported she was called “Lizzo” and various obscenities, with some chanting “Lock her up.”
James Staples, the man who was behind the racist monkey noises at a Black woman named Jaylin Smith during protests against Israel's genocide of Gaza, got booted from Ole Miss's Phi Delta Theta fraternity.

Hollow Fantasy AU I’ve had in mind:
(Kaidam can be seen as platonic or romantic but honestly any ship works here)
part 2
Kai was basically raised in a very religious, closed off, secluded village. He was adopted by his parents. Eventually, he accidentally showed his pyrokinesis powers at the age of 11 and his parents rush him to the pastor. Immediately seen as the devil, things get out of hand and under the stress, Kai’s pupils dilate, his nails sharpen, and small studs sprout from his forehead. He’s locked under the church with chains until Davis comes to save him. Someone discovers them and they run from the village and through the woods, followed by pitchforks and torches. Eventually they reach a cliff and Davis urges Kai to fly away with his fire abilities. Under the pressure, more dragon-like features appear, his horns begin to form and scales protrude from his cheeks and forearms. Eventually Davis runs back to distract the mob, saying one last goodbye to Kai. Kai ignites his hands and leaps off the cliff, stumbling at first, but in that exact moment, his wings tear through his clothing. He flies over the ocean for a day, exhaustion seeping through his bones. Eventually he falls, crashing into the ocean, all his dragon features retracting.
Mira, is your typical water nymph. Though instead of being connected to a pond or lake. She’s connected to the sea. She was adopted by her fathers who live by the shores. Mira, swimming far off, finds Kai. She isn’t too put off, known by the kingdom for the amount of drowning people she’s saved. She creates an air bubble around his head but he stays unconscious. She takes him back to the shores where she finds Adam waiting for her. Startled by the boy she’s holding, helps her carry him to land, where Mira extracts the water clogging the red-heads airway. Kai gasps, coughing as his blurry vision focuses. Questions are asked, Kai doesn’t say much of what happened, other than he ran away from home. Words are spoken and the three slowly become acquaintances. Kai doesn’t say a word of his fire powers until they walk away from the shores and deeper into the kingdom. Adam and Mira see Kai eye boggling the kingdom and start explaining things. Eventually Kai asks the question on his mind, pointing out the multiple people using magic. Adam explains how this kingdom was one of the most high ranking ones, famous for their trades, magic remedies, and how they’re accepting of magic abilities and creatures. With this revelation, Kai hesitantly shows his pyrokinesis powers, earning looks of awe. After learning that Kai was new to these powers, they offer to introduce him to their friend Reeve. Who was learning magic from the royal families personal mage, his grandmother, and could teach Kai a thing or two.
After a quick tour of the kingdom, Mira and Adam finally notice the injuries Kai sustained. Kai brushes it off and says its fine but Mira and Adam insist on helping him. Adam and Mira speak in hushed whispers, before turning back to Kai, after a slow process of explaining, its revealed that Adams the prince. A soon to be king. He invites Kai to stay at the palace so he can heal, thats also where they can find the mage and Reeve. Kai reluctantly agrees, already taken aback by the fact that this person he met was royalty and how different everything was from his secluded village. They reach the palace and Mira bids the two boys goodbye, going back to her own home. Adam immediately brings Kai to the medic and later introduces him to his parents asking permission to have him stay awhile. With approval, he introduces Kai to Reeve, who is in his study with his grandmother, learning to be the next royal families mage. They exchange words and Adam leaves the three be, returning to his princely duties, or as he calls it ‘training’. Which Reeve teases him about. Kai and Reeve become quick friends and have fun learning magic from the elderly woman. Adam comes back to bring Kai to the boys new sleeping chambers. Kai rests better than he’s ever rested in his life.
A few days pass as Kai becomes acquainted with his three new friends, also meeting Mira’s side friend, Skeet, who she hangs out with sometimes. That is until Adam brings Mira and Reeve to Kai’s sleeping chambers to wake him up in the middle of the night. They sneak throughout the castle, sliding against portrait covered walls and reaching a dome-like room. Adam asks Kai to light the wall torches covering the room and Kai does so. Suddenly they are faced with tall glass shard murals. Arranged in a way to show pictures and paintings. Reeve and Mira start to get excited, asking Adam if this was the whispered prophecy that has become butchered with its retellings all around the kingdom. Adam nods, explaining the actual version. ‘Long ago, The Hollow, Adams families kingdom had an ancient artifact called The Ishibo. (The mural shows a glowing purple stick placed upright in a stone placement, surrounded in a beautiful garden.) It made the crops grow healthier, it aided them in wars, it created a forcefield around the kingdom and protected them from dangers. (The mural shows this all) They prospered with it. That was until a weird strange man and a dragon terrorized the kingdom and stole it. (The mural shows a man riding a dragon and burning the kingdom to the ground.) They’ve been getting by ever since, but yearn for what is rightfully theirs. The prophecy claims that the tenth prince, which is Adam. Will leave the kingdom at the age of 16, sought out the dragon, and slay it. Bringing back its head and the Ishibo. (The mural shows a man dressed in armor standing before an exaggerated dragon-like beast. After, entering the kingdom and holding its head triumphantly along with the Ishibo.)’ 12 year old Adam finishes the retelling of the story and points to the prince holding the dragons head in the mural. Claiming that’ll be him in the future with determination.
Kai takes a step back, eyes wide, still staring at the glass prince holding the dragon head and then towards the prince standing off against the dragon. Eyes darting back and forth between the two murals fearfully. His panic goes unnoticed as Mira, Reeve, and Adam talk about the prophecy. Kai’s breathing picks up pace as not-so-long-ago memories flash through his mind. Of his sharp talons, his dilated eyes, the horns protruding from his head, and the wings that burst from his back. Suddenly, Adam asks if Kai’s okay. Adam retracts his hand when he brings it up consolingly, only for Kai to flinch away. Mira and Reeve notice too, shooting him concerned looks. Kai swallows, reassuring them that he’s fine and congratulates Adam on his huge honor of being the chosen hero. Adam nods proudly, thanking Kai. Adam and Kai walk Reeve and Mira back to the front of the palace so they can return to their homes. Adam walks Kai back to his room, once again asking Kai if he’s alright since the talkative red-head hadn’t said a word. Kai once again reassures him and closes the door to his sleeping chambers. A sleeping chamber which he does not sleep in for the rest of the night.
Two days pass and Kai’s quieter then he’s ever been, not contributing as much in his and Reeves lessons with the mage. And not hanging out with Mira and Adam as much. Just keeping himself locked in his room. Adams parents, the queen and king begin to wonder if they should start looking for a home for the boy. They don’t have to wonder any longer. On the second night of Kai’s muteness, he picks up a messenger bag filled with trinkets/mechanical items he’s collected, necessary clothes, and rations. He folds the note he wrote. And exits his room quietly, igniting a small flame on his finger to light his way, extinguishing it a few times when he hears the clanking footsteps of guards. He sneaks into his friends room and leaves the note by his bedside. Before finally leaving the palace. He rushes through the kingdom with his bag, growing faster in speed as tears prick his eyes. He wanted to stay so badly. In a place he could finally call home. In a place he finally felt safe in. But even if he stayed and hid what kind of thing he was. It’d eventually come to light. And everything would be his fault. Everyone would finally see the kind of demon he was. His emotions grow along with his distress, making his dragon features resurface. He reaches the forest, not stopping for a second the deeper he went. His pace slows when his exhaustion increases. His now pointed ears perk up when he hears a rustle. He stops to pause, which is exactly what they wanted. A net shoots out from the darkness and wraps around Kai. He yelps before hissing on instinct. Another net shoots out and big muscular minotaur figures, covered head to toe in animal skins come out from the shadows. One orders another to hold Kai down. Kai writhes in the nets, his breathing coming out ragged as his pupils grow thinner. More scales escape his flesh and a tail grows from him along with his wings. The minotaurs praise themselves for their rare find and shove the half-dragon into their jail cart. Locking the bar doors shut and throwing a sheet over it. They jump into their wagon and drag the prison, along with the dragon, away.
Mira exits the ocean the next day after her routinely morning swim. She wringes her hair of water, only to look up and see Adam and Reeve running at her in full sprint, feet hitting the sandy shore. Her face opens in concern and waits for them to reach her. Adam and Reeve try to speak through heavy breathing and wheezes, hands on their knees to steady themselves. Adam gives up in trying to speak coherent words and hands Mira the note clenched tightly in his hand. She reads the carefully written note. She reads as Kai thanks them, as he thanks Mira for saving him, for Adam taking him in, for Reeve helping him control his magic. And she reads as he apologizes, for who he is, and for leaving. Never explaining what he is, and why he’s leavings. Adam takes one more deep breathe before speaking. “I checked his room, he’s gone. Kai ran away.”

Sightseeing - Junon Area
It's the middle of the second day since they made it through the mines. The bare mountains and dry ground glowed red in the sunlight, and the beast man couldn't help but be reminded of his home. The Junon area couldn't hold a candle to Cosmo Canyon, but the similarities still drowned him everytime his thoughts drifted.
A whisper in the grass and Red remembered running through the canyon with his mother. Wind blowing through the mountains and he could swear he could hear his grandfather's laugh. Workers gossiping around roadworks and the beast man expected Cosmo's marketplace around the corner.
Stars, he missed his home.
A sharp curse next to him brought him back to the present and he turned his attention towards Cait, who had stopped walking. The robot cat looked genuinely angry, ears flat against his skull, eyebrows drawn in a glare and a hiss on his tongue.
Red's ears flicked and for a second he didn't know what to do. He had seen Cait jovial, frustrated, even sad when they came across a stray kitten in Kalm. He didn't know how to deal with an angry Cait Sith. "...What's wrong?" Red asked carefully, giving his friend companion his full attention.
"They're belittlin' 'im again!" Cait spat and started pacing. "Laughin' at 'im for caring! Shootin' 'im down at ev'ry turn! Even Palmer's--!" Suddenly the cat stumbled a step backward with a shocked expression, before it dissolved into actual growling. "An' now 'e shut me out!"
Palmer. Another executive mentioned by name. Red is starting to wonder just what position Reeve holds in the Shinra hierarchy. But he tucks that thought away for now, Cait Sith takes priority right now. The cat looks about ready to actually start throwing rocks.
"Does that happen often?" the beast man asks carefully. "The belittling?"
"Urban Development is the laughin' stock of th' entire company," Cait explains darkly. He is still pacing. "Why care for th' city when there's still land in Wutai? Why invest in security for the reactors when there's robots tae be built, materia tae be researched?! Why fix roads or build houses when they could always use more troopers instead!"
Red regrets asking, frowning as Cait talked himself into a frenzy. He sat down and watched as the cat kept clenching and unclenching his hands, nostrils flaring with each heavy breath Red knew Cait didn't actually need. Neither of them spoke for a while.
Finally Cait Sith sighed, his ears drooping and, mirroring Red, sat down heavily on the ground. The anger left him as fast as it had come. "...The wors' part is tha' 'e won't even let 'imself get mad," he muttered, his tail anxiously gripped in both of his hands and hunched over just a bit. "'e knows there would be consequences if he ever dared tae talk back. At best they would replace 'im wi' someone who cares jus' as little as they dae, at worst they would go after everyone under 'im instead.
"So 'e doesn't."
Red stared at the sad cat for a bit, his ears flicking and his tail lightly thumping against the ground in contemplation. Then he stood up again, walked over to Cait and curled up around him without comment. Cait glanced over at him in light surprise. "...do you miss him?" Red asked quietly.
Cait looked down at his hands, still gripping his tail. "...dae ye miss Cosmo Canyon?"
A bearded smile, a hand in his fur. "Nanaki—"
Red flinched and turned away. Silence for a minute.
"...o' course I miss 'im," Cait finally muttered in response. "Ev'ry day. I wish I was there tae cheer 'im up. I wish I was there tae bite their ankles for not listenin' to 'im. But..." The robot cat finally let go of his tail and leaned back, nestling into Red with a little smile, ears perked up again. "I wouldn't give 'is freedom up so easily either. Travelin' the world wi' a friend, not havin' tae be careful not tae be spotted by anyone, actually seein' th' stars ev'ry night!"
Red smiled at his compa-- his friend's returning enthusiasm and shifted his tail so it laid lightly over one of Cait's boots in response.
"An' ye never kno'," said friend continued with a pointed hand, "when we're finally in Upper Junon maybe I can pull some strings, get ye some honest to Odin stew after Reeve's sad attempt!"
"For someone who clearly doesn't cook all that often it wasn't that bad," Red defended with an amused huff, and they stayed on the ground for at least another hour, chatting over nothing but forgetting their problems for a while.
He still deeply missed his home, but Red figured that this was okay in the meantime.

"Heehee..."
"...?"
"'e apologized for cuttin' me off without warnin'."
"Hm. It's a start."

Transformers: Mosaic #567 - "The Gift Of Friendship"

wada sez: What do you mean, Christmas was a month ago? The Transformers: Mosaic archive train stops for no holiday. On deviantART, Reeves talked about the strip: “was a really rushed mosaic art wise but luckily we had a great (and super fast) colourist to help improve my rushed line art. and of course, franco's lettering skills are awesome considering there was so much text and such small panels. breast feeding flowers are always funny, as is 'angel bee' and finally we now have an answer to the question on all transfans lips- if prime has an energon axe in the cartoon, what energon weapon does cosmos have hiding behind his hand? an energon spade/trowel!! doubt anybody noticed, but ive got sideswipe beating up sunstreakier like he did in last years 'appreciation' xmas mosaic. sludge is a really annoying character to write about. it's awkward to read his narration when he has such a broken speech pattern, but you can't have him speak normally so trying to find a middle ground was challenging. [...] from the time i thought up the story to the final finished product i think took about a week and a half. never again.” He also shared his original idea for a Christmas strip, which he would’ve done if he “had more time”; I’ve mirrored it below, after Villa’s Italian translation of the strip.
Tumblr media
festive mercy 'christmas: late night' starscream is in a security room at decepticon hq arguing with megatron. monitors show the decepticon party. various funny images such as laserbeak tied down on a plate like an xmas turkey.
screamer says "you have no right megatron! i deserve to be at the christmas celebration. not stuck on security detail" megatron says "deserve starscream? you deserve to be stamped down into sub-par decorations for your pitiful performance against prime earlier"
'earlier: christmas afternoon' outside in the snow prime is beating the shit out of starscream using a huge christmas tree prime says "you shall not ruin today for the humans starscream. not this day. not christmas day!" screamer says "mercy prime- i beg of you"
'christmas: early evening' decepticon hq party. starscream is obviously scared as the decepticons are running around. the decepticons have their head replaced by optimus heads. thundercracker says "merry xmas starscream" screamer says "eeep!!" screamer thinks 'everywhere i look i see his face'
now we see that the decepticons dont have prime heads- its just starscreams imagination. a decepticon is throwing up as others get drunk. screamer says "er yeah thundercracker. you too." screamer thinks 'my nerves are shot. i dont know how much longer i can bare this' megatron is watching starscream shake with fear megatron thinks 'look at him. the coward. however, when pushed, prime is an intimidating foe. perhaps his temperary fear is somewhat... understandable?' starscream is whispering (keep away keep away) as his fellow cons dance around him (imaginary prime heads on the decep bodies). megatron thinks ' exposing his fear- humiliate him- a truely delicious present for myself.' decepticons are all cheering "merry christmas!!" megatron thinks '... and yet...' megatron says "starscream relieve soundwave in security. the spoils of war are for winners only" screamer says "th- this is intolerable!! " relieved yet afraid to show it. megatron says with a smirk "and one more thing- merry xmas you waste of energon" screamer replies "merry xmas you over sized scraplet"

Recently watched Superman: The Movie (1978) for the first time in well over a decade and it really is a great movie so I got some thoughts that I want to put somewhere before I forget.
The cold open of theater curtains showing a mockup of an old Superman serial featuring Action Comics is a great nod to the character's past. Then the title flying out of the old theater screen is a fantastic visual as well as a good transition to kickstart the credits sequence accompanied by the iconic music
The set design of Krypton is phenomenal; the glowing clothes, the crystalline look, and the streamlined technology feel alien and futuristic in a unique way, although it is a little odd that everything is so white except for Kal-El's baby blanket.
The trial of Zod, Ursa, and Non has the striking combination of visuals that are the trio being held in a spotlight by spinning rings and the stern Kryptonian judges' faces being projected onto the otherwise dark dome surrounding them
Marlon Brando keeps pronouncing it "Kryptin" for some reason. Like when I'm joking about watching "The Batmins"
Genuinely very sad goodbye scene from Kal's parents
Pretty much every wide shot in Kansas is super beautiful
As is the custom, Ma and Pa Kent bring Clark up right. I appreciate the moment where Clark tells Pa about how he gets so mad at bullies that he wants to tear them apart because first off, you can tell from how he says it that he knows it'd be wrong to do that. And second, Pa doesn't yell at him for having those feelings, he tries to help him deal with them.
Clark doesn't just bail on Martha to go find himself, and he makes sure she'll have help on the farm while he's gone
The sequence of the Fortress forming itself has amazing practical effects and editing
Maybe it was because I was watching the Blu Ray version with extra scenes but the abstract montage of crystal Jor-El teaching Clark about the universe and his abilities and giving life lessons ran a little long but it was cool
Clark is very much playing up his meek, clumsy identity but him being Reporter Clark Kent as a person is not totally an act. He makes sure half his paycheck goes to Ma back home because he wants to make sure she's taken care of and he tries to be polite and helpful around the office, which tracks with who he is at his core
I think Lex being a business tycoon/scientist is pretty integral to the character but I don't mind this version's "Napoleon of crime" shtick. I like that Gene Hackman's hair being a wig in-story is hinted at when Otis is poking around the spa and he finds a spare hairpiece
I know everyone knows this already but Christopher Reeves is a perfect casting choice and he does an amazing job at making Clark and Superman superficially different but obviously the same person at heart. Even when he says something a little corny as either one, there's so much sincerity to it
Clark feeling a little guilty about enjoying being a hero is on-brand. I like that Jor-El reflects Johnathan Kent by encouraging him but also giving guidance so he doesn't lose who he is.
The moment of Jor-El saying "I've sent them you. My only son." is veering very close to the common Superman-as-a-Jesus-allegory mistake but it's the only time in the entire movie I remember it doing that, so I can't harp on it too much
Lois is just a force of nature and the only reason Clark can keep up with her as Superman is because she's starstruck
This version of Superman and Lois are down just HORRENDOUS for each other
The flying date scene is great and I think the poorly-aged flying effect is countered by the nighttime background and the chemistry between the characters. That being said, the "can you read my mind" poem is just. What. Why is this
The scene of Lex, Ms. Teschmacher, and Otis attempting to tamper with the nukes and then having to do it again because Otis screwed up is so goofy I forgot they were villains
Great moment when Superman shows he can be intimidating by just staring down Otis.
I like that Superman is saved by Ms Teschmacher because she believes in him which is a surprise to Lex because he only believes in himself
Really great effects in the scenes of the destruction from the San Andreas fault
This shot is underrated
Tumblr media
The moments of Superman realizing Lois is dead have so much weight to them and are amazingly shot
I kind of wish they explored the consequences of him "interfering in history" because otherwise it is sort of just a convenient deus ex machina
Everything ends tied up very nicely (except the Zod squad but after two hours, nobody's thinking about that) and sometimes that's all a movie needs
It's astonishing really how much they manage to fit in this movie considering they give a lot of scenes more time than you'd expect
Overall, movie good.
