Navigating Excellence: Call Centre Services in Thailand
In today's interconnected global economy, effective communication is paramount for businesses aiming to thrive. Call centre services play a pivotal role in ensuring seamless interactions between companies and their customers. Thailand, known for its vibrant culture and burgeoning economy, has emerged as a hub for call centre services, offering a blend of linguistic proficiency, technological prowess, and cultural sensitivity. Let's delve into why Thailand has become a preferred destination for outsourcing call centre operations.
Tumblr media
Linguistic Proficiency One of the primary reasons behind Thailand's attractiveness for call centre services is its linguistic proficiency. Thai call centre agents are typically fluent in English, which is widely spoken in business environments globally. Moreover, Thailand's multilingual workforce, adept at languages such as Mandarin, Japanese, Korean, and European languages, provides a competitive edge in catering to diverse clientele across continents. This linguistic versatility enables seamless communication, fostering stronger relationships between businesses and their customers worldwide.
Technological Prowess Thailand boasts a robust technological infrastructure, making it conducive for call centre operations. State-of-the-art facilities equipped with cutting-edge communication technologies, including Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP), Interactive Voice Response (IVR) systems, and cloud-based solutions, ensure efficient call handling and superior customer service. Additionally, Thailand's strategic geographical location enables seamless connectivity with global markets, facilitating real-time interactions and swift resolution of customer queries and concerns.
Cost-Effectiveness Cost-effectiveness is another compelling factor driving the popularity of call centre services in Thailand. The country offers competitive labor costs compared to Western counterparts, allowing businesses to optimize operational expenses without compromising on service quality. Moreover, Thailand's favorable tax policies and government incentives further enhance its attractiveness as an outsourcing destination, making it an economically viable choice for companies seeking to streamline their customer support operations.
Cultural Sensitivity Thailand's rich cultural heritage and emphasis on hospitality contribute to its prowess in delivering exceptional customer service. Call centre agents in Thailand are trained to uphold cultural sensitivity, ensuring respectful and empathetic interactions with customers from diverse backgrounds. This cultural acumen enables agents to navigate nuances in communication effectively, fostering trust and rapport with customers across borders. Whether it's addressing cultural norms, customs, or preferences, Thai call centre agents excel in delivering personalized and culturally relevant support, enhancing the overall customer experience.
24/7 Availability In today's fast-paced business landscape, round-the-clock customer support is indispensable. Thailand's strategic time zone advantage allows companies to provide 24/7 availability, catering to customers across different time zones seamlessly. Whether it's day or night, customers can rely on Thai call centres to address their queries promptly, enhancing customer satisfaction and loyalty. This flexibility in service hours ensures uninterrupted support, empowering businesses to stay competitive in a global marketplace.
Quality Assurance Quality assurance is paramount in call centre operations, and Thailand prioritizes excellence in service delivery. Industry-leading practices, stringent quality control measures, and continuous training programs ensure that Thai call centre agents uphold the highest standards of professionalism and efficiency. From adherence to service level agreements (SLAs) to monitoring call metrics and implementing feedback mechanisms, Thailand's call centre industry is committed to driving continuous improvement and exceeding customer expectations.
In conclusion, Thailand's emergence as a preferred destination for call centre services is underpinned by its linguistic proficiency, technological prowess, cost-effectiveness, cultural sensitivity, 24/7 availability, and commitment to quality assurance. As businesses increasingly recognize the importance of exceptional customer service in driving growth and competitiveness, Thailand stands out as a reliable partner in navigating the complexities of global communication. With its dynamic workforce and dedication to excellence, Thailand continues to shape the future of call centre services, offering unparalleled value to businesses worldwide.

Love Sea Novel Excerpt: Mahasamut Punishing Tongrak (Special Episode)
Tumblr media
"Tongrak!"
Fun my ass!
That was what Tongrak thought as he looked into the intense, angry eyes filled with apprehension.
An hour ago, he was having fun because as soon as he stepped into the bar, he became the center of attention for both men and women. He knew he was attractive and always drew attention wherever he went. Palm had done a good job spreading the word across the island, because curious eyes were watching him from every corner.
That was enough to fulfill Palm's request. And... he'd already texted his boyfriend.
If anyone wanted to see Mahasamut with him, they'd get their wish tonight.
Let everyone know that the island's treasure already had an owner! And he loves the owner so much!
Tongrak thought proudly, answering a few questions from the locals, turning down a few advances, until... he met a fellow college friend.
At first, he just helped the Canadian guy who was confused about the menu. They hit it off, talking about their university and city, and he learned the other had just broken up with his girlfriend and fled to Thailand alone. They just clicked, reminiscing about the city they once lived in for years. That was all until...
The man in front of Tongrak pressed close, placing a hand on his thigh, causing him to jerk away, but before he could react, a large hand grabbed his own, furrowing his brow.
Tongrak tried to pull away again, but the warm palm still held his hand.
"Why not?" the man asked.
His light-colored eyes looked sweetly at him, but the writer wasn't swayed. His fair hand was ready to yank away, but then...
"Tongrak!"
Before Tongrak could react, the rough hand grabbed his wrist, pulling him into a warm embrace and a familiar scent.
His heart sank.
Tongrak knew who it was before even seeing the face of the hand's owner.
"Mut," he called out, startled. Tongrak looked up at the sharp-featured, tense, angry face with veins bulging on his neck.
Mahasamut wasn't looking at him, but at the Canadian guy with a scary look.
Mahasamut had a big build, and Tongrak believed that Mahasamut wouldn't lose in a fight. So, the tight grip on his wrist and the intense eyes that seemed to suck the breath out of the onlooker made his slender body tremble.
Tongrak didn't dare say anything, feeling the fury emanating from this man.
Mahasamut looked at the foreigner with dangerous eyes and then yanked him out of the bar so quickly that Tongrak didn't dare make a sound.
The last thing he saw was Palm crouching behind the bar counter, and even though he couldn't hear what the kid said, he knew they were thinking the same thing.... This is going to end badly.
---
---
Thud!
Tongrak jolted as his bare back was pushed against the wall of the house, his honey-colored eyes trembling, looking at the man in front of him with fear.
Mahasamut was furious... very furious.
"I didn't do anything, believe me."
"Then why did you let him touch your hand!?"
Tongrak flinched as the deep voice yelled at him.
Since they'd met, he'd rarely seen Mahasamut angry. The other was always calmer, always listening, always more mature. No matter how badly Tongrak behaved, Mahasamut would cool him down, gently guiding and teaching him. The only time Tongrak saw his lover angry was when he came to make up and was too scared to speak. But that was anger mixed with sadness. This time, it was different.
The dark eyes were so frightening that he almost stopped breathing. The large hand gripped his arm tightly.
"I didn't..." Tongrak heard his own voice shaking, trying to grab Mahasamut's hand as he explained, "he just suddenly grabbed my hand. Believe me. Palm asked me to sit at the bar for a bit. I just did what Palm asked, and I already told you that, too. I didn't do anything. Really."
Tongrak looked into those wild, furious eyes, pleading. He was almost ready to kneel and beg.
"Can you not be angry?"
With a swoosh, the writer flinched as Mahasamut brushed his hand aside to grab his palm and yanked it up to eye level.
"I saw him holding your hand."
"I shook it off."
The slender man tried to touch the rugged, handsome face, but the other turned away.
It's scary.
Tongrak's heart pounded. He didn't know if he was scared or intimidated when those sharp eyes stared at him, radiating an aura that would keep anyone away.
"Where else did he touch you?"
The deep voice was so intense, it seemed to vibrate through him, along with the tall figure pressing against Tongrak, the heat almost scorching.
Their eyes locked as if trying to read each other's souls.
"... my waist," he whispered back, barely audible.
"Ah!"
Tongrak stiffened, gasping as the rough hand pulled his shirt from his pants, and then the hot flesh squeezed his bare waist hard enough to leave a mark and slid up to his chest. He didn't dare look down, only at the eyes in front of him that shone with a crazed light.
Thump, thump, thump.
Tongrak's heart hammered in his chest, pumping blood to his flushed face until it was a deep shade of red.
"... where else?" a deep voice whispered close to his lips.
Tongrak averted his gaze briefly.
Should I tell him?
Deep down, he knew what was coming. He knew he would be punished and understood that he shouldn't reveal more than necessary. Yet something compelled him to answer truthfully.
"My legs."
"Take off your pants."
The listener shuddered at the command, looking at Mahasamut with a startled expression.
They both stood on the spacious porch in front of the house, prompting a repeat of the words.
"What did you say?"
"I said, take off your pants!" The command was repeated, louder this time, causing Tongrak to hurriedly unbuckle his belt under the unwavering gaze that offered no help.
Mahasamut watched him fumble in silence, but this silence made Tongrak's back slick with sweat, his heart racing with a mix of fear and excitement. His hands trembled as he undid his belt and took off his pants. The more Mahasamut watched, the more he shook.
He didn't like that Mahasamut said nothing, but he did like being watched like this.
The soft fabric of his pants pooled around his ankles.
A rough hand seized his thigh, squeezing it hard enough to make Tongrak gasp for breath. He looked up into those sharp, strong eyes, half of Mahasamut's face obscured by the shadows of the evening, making him look like a death god come to claim a life- dangerous, yet so devastatingly handsome.
The man pressed his body close, his muscles as hard as iron against Tongrak.
A burning hand slid up to his inner thigh, making Tongrak jerk in response.
Tongrak knew he should first try to cool down the other man, but his body responded honestly. His core burned, his underwear was damp with desire. Wherever Mahasamut touched, it felt like he left scorching marks. Even the deep voice that asked again was frighteningly arousing.
"Where else?"
"... that's it," his voice trembled with a pitiable crack.
And it was even more pitiable when Mahasamut whispered in his ear.
"Do you know I won't forgive you easily?"
Then punish me.
"What should I do to make you not angry?"
Please, punish me. Do it until I don't dare to do this again.
Tongrak looked up with pleading eyes as the handsome, fierce face leaned in close.
"Find a way."
Fingertips caught his chin, forcing him to meet those wild eyes, and before his brain could catch up, Tongrak opened his mouth to a kiss that plunged in fiercely, tasting almost blood. His heart raced with excitement, his body pressing against the larger frame, his hips grinding against the other's, shamelessly close as their tongues waged war.
Mahasamut liked kissing him, but this time it was hotter, more violent, and savage without tenderness. His sharp teeth nipped at Tongrak's lower lip, making him whimper, but the other man didn't listen to his protests, instead plunging his tongue into Tongrak's mouth, greedy and unrelenting. Pressed against the wall with no space between them, a large hand groped his thigh, fingers trailing to the very inside but refusing to touch further.
It was Tongrak himself who pressed his lower body closer, grinding his hips.
"Mut, ah, Mut," he moaned and groaned, trying to press closer to that hand while his mouth was still captive.
Mahasamut kissed him as if to devour him.
Their tongues tangled fiercely until saliva trickled at the corners of their mouths, and the taller man moved to kiss around his cheeks, down his neck, his hot tongue tracing his jaw before flicking over his Adam's apple. Tongrak shuddered, tilting his head back, his pale hand reaching to grasp the firm flesh beneath the cargo pants.
It was hard and hot, and he wanted it in his mouth.
"Take off your underwear."
Mahasamut commanded beside his cheek, and the listener didn't hesitate to strip off his underwear on the porch, revealing his arousal that was embarrassingly wet with precum.
The tall figure stepped back just enough to stare at it, making Tongrak squirm.
"Take off my shirt."
Now, whatever Mahasamut ordered, Tongrak would comply easily. His fair hands reached to remove Mahasamut's Hawaiian shirt, trembling as he watched it fall to the floor, his heart skipping a beat when the larger man grabbed the hem of his tank top and pulled it over his head with swift movements, revealing the line of muscles that moved beautifully, leaving Tongrak to stare at the man before him.
"Ah!!"
"Do you want it that badly?"
Tongrak shivered when a fingertip touched his slick tip. With just a brush of a thumb, he was close to finishing right then.
"Just looking at me undress makes you this eager? You don't look at others like this, do you?"
"No..."
"I didn't say you could speak."
Tongrak immediately shut his mouth, trembling under the teasing fingers, then squeezing himself hard. He wanted to move, to press against the rough palm.
"It looks like you'll have to endure a bit more, Mr. Tongrak."
That's when the larger man pulled him into the bedroom and pushed Tongrak against the bed, making his upper body fall against the mattress while his legs still touched the floor, spread wide to reveal his eager flesh. Mahasamut's sharp gaze pressed down on him, and then... a wicked smile, he said, "Go on, finish for me."
"Mut..."
"Ssh," Mahasamut placed a finger on those pretty lips and pushed it into his mouth.
And with that, Tongrak flicked his tongue around the long finger, drawing it deep into his throat, while his smooth hand moved to grasp his own center. His legs spread wider, allowing the sharp gaze to see every part of him.
If Mahasamut wanted to see, he'd do it.
"Uh, ah..."
Even though Mahasamut was just watching, Tongrak felt waves of pleasure, moaning from his throat while still sucking on the long finger as if it were that hot flesh. His legs lifted higher, his hand moving faster, aware of the wet sounds and the glistening moisture.
The first time Tongrak pleasured himself in front of someone was for Mahasamut, and he relished the sharp gaze on him, the shadow that partly hid Mahasamut, the long finger thrusting into his throat mercilessly, the embarrassment that made his flesh tremble with excitement, his hips moving faster.
"Ah.... ah!"
At that moment, his beautiful eyes widened when a cool liquid was poured on his sweet spot, and before he could react...
Mahasamut's thick fingers penetrated the tender channel that was still soft from last night's sex, thrusting deep to his favorite spot, making him arch his back like a bow, his legs tensing against the bed, his buttocks lifting off the soft mattress.
"I didn't tell you to stop. Keep going."
Mahasamut pulled his finger from Tongrak's mouth, his voice firm. WIth his free hand, he lifted Tongrak's legs higher, allowing the long finger that had almost completely withdrawn to thrust back into his tight channel.
"Ah... ah, oh Mut, Mut, right there, harder."
Smack!
"Don't stop!"
Tongrak's eyes teared up as he was spanked on the buttocks, leaving a red mark. His fair hand, which had paused, stroked himself again while his hips swayed uncontrollably as Mahasamut kept pressing on the sensitive spot inside. His mouth opened wide, moaning incoherently.
"Don't stop, no more, give it to me again." Tongrak moved his hand faster, begging louder, oblivious to the squelching sounds echoing around the room. Then, his tearful eyes pleaded with the owner.
"No more fingers, enough, ah, give it to me... now."
"Tell me what you want."
Mahasamut rose above Tongrak's body, his large hand on the beautiful chin, whispering low. His fierce eyes stared down, squeezing to force the pretty one to speak with a trembling voice.
"Fuck me... Mut, take me... I want you... please."
That was all it took for Tongrak's world to flip upside down. He was pushed into a crawling position on the bed, his fair buttocks raised to receive, his legs spread wide, feeling the rough palm push both cheeks apart, forcing him to grip the bed sheet.
Tongrak's eyes widened, tears streaming down as the hot, hard member penetrated his tight hole. It was hot, big, almost suffocating, but it made him climax instantly, his cries echoing throughout the room, and then...
"Ah!!!!"
"Who told you to cum?"
Just as it thrust in deep, Tongrak... finished.
"I'm sorry, I'm sorry, Rak's sorry, ah... sob, ah."
Tongrak cried out unintelligibly before jolting, his smooth hand grabbing the neck of the person behind him as the hot, hard flesh thrust in again. His tears flowed with intense pleasure. He knew that the already fierce Mahasamut was more violent than usual, not allowing him to rest, deliberately thrusting hard to drive him crazy. The large hand grabbed his front, stroking briefly before it was as hard as before.
"Rak, Rak's sorry, ah."
Mahasamut turned Tongrak's face to receive a hot kiss, forcing his tongue out to tangle outside his mouth while the other hand slipped through the remaining buttons of his shirt, pushing him to kneel on the bed, pulling him up to lean against the broad back, making way for the hot, thrusting member inside him.
The sound of flesh slapping against flesh echoed throughout the spacious room, igniting the desires of both parties and causing him to flare up intensely. Tongues entwined outside of their mouths, a lovely piece of flesh released a continuous stream of slick moisture. Then, the fair body shuddered as a large hand squeezed and teased a sweetly colored nub, pulling it until Tongrak quivered with a cold shock.
"it hurts..."
"Do you like it?"
"I like it. Squeeze again. Make it hurt. Ah, make Rak learn his lesson... Mut!" Tongrak cried out embarrassingly, yet his hips met each thrust without yielding.
And so, Mahasamut pulled the fair frame down to sit astride his lap, and before Tongrak could tense his legs to receive him, the large hand gripped his hips, lifting them just enough to...
"Ah!!!! Mut, too hard. Mn, it tingles, ah..."
Mahasamut relentlessly drove into him, plunging deep inside until it was overwhelming yet sending shivers of pleasure throughout his body, making him cry out loudly. Tongrak's hands clutched at the man behind him, who was panting and trembling. Mahasamut's deep, sexy voice resonated in Mahasamut's ears with sobs and gasps, unable to stop his hips.
Again, I can't, I can't...
"Ah!!!!"
Without waiting long, Tongrak released a cloudy white fluid that sprayed all the way to the headboard while strong arms locked around his waist, the strong hips pounding him fiercely. The deep voice filled the room before Tongrak felt a wave of warmth as the hot liquid overflowed inside him.
"Wait, wait, just a moment, let me rest."
"When did I say you could rest?"
Tongrak's voice shook as he was flipped to lie on his back, one leg pushed up almost against his own chest, but he was paralyzed when he met the sharp gaze directed at him.
Tongrak should've been scared, but why was he trembling with excitement instead?
Mahasamut was fierce, wild, and unyielding, like the sea during a storm, but Tongrak couldn't take his eyes off the man before him. This man was dangerously handsome, and he couldn't resist him. Before he could brace himself, he gasped and grabbed the large hand tightly as the handsome face buried itself in his tight entrance, pushing a tongue inside selfishly.
Damn it, even after all this...
"Harder, ah, it feels good. Go deeper, lick more. I like it so much."
He moaned, clutching the thick black hair tightly, ready to receive any punishment this man was willing to give.
Tongrak knew he shouldn't feel this way, but he... liked it when Mahasamut was jealous.
He liked everything about this man.
---
---
Maybe I should make him jealous again.
The thought occurred to him that if Mahasamut heard it, he'd be punished so much that he wouldn't be able to leave the bed.
But what could he do? He liked it!
It didn't matter. He was still paying Mahasamut, but this time paying with the currency called Tongrak.

I still can't believe that we finally got Mhok admitting his trauma and speaking up about his own pain and how he blames himself for his sister's suicide and that this is how the show chose to handle that.
We finally saw Mhok completely vulnerable, expressing his fear and his pain and the guilt that weighs him down, literally saying that he didn't answer her call and lost the person he most loved in the world and that Day's reaction to that is to break up with him.
It's not to comfort him or to talk to him, it's not to approach him, it's not even to try to understand.
It's to instantly center Day's discomfort with Mhok's guilt and grief and how he expresses himself and then send him away. Because Mhok being anything less than perfect is too much for Day to handle.
Day's mom can take his cell phone, cut off his internet and outright state that she would rather lock him up in his room and have him there and safe than out and happy but if Mhok dares to admit that he isn't comfortable going overseas because of his own trauma and pain that he's been trying to hide and hold onto on his own... that's too much.
Mhok was truly vulnerable, trusting their love and their relationship to be able to see that he was opening himself up in a way he hasn't to anyone else. We haven't even seen him tell this to Porjai and he has no one else and Day's response was to not just push him away but to tell him that if he didn't let himself be pushed away he was doing the one thing Mhok had promised himself he would never do.
Yes, Mhok admitted that he didn't like leaving Day alone or being where he couldn't easily get to him but he also explained the trauma of his loss and the guilt he carried from it and the blame he put on his own shoulders and Day didn't think any of that was worth comfort. None of that was worth anything with the boyfriend that he loved so much, that none of his boyfriend's pain could possibly be acceptable in their relationship.
No, Mhok had to be perfect at all times, had to hold his sister's memory in light and never worry about Day and never make a choice based on wanting to be there for a person he loved instead of just pursuing a career so he could 'take care of Day' with money instead of his presence.
The instant Mhok let himself be vulnerable, let himself try to lean on Day the way Day has so often leaned on him, he was summarily rejected and sent away to cry alone, to grieve both the loss of his sister and the loss his boyfriend, to face that he can never be vulnerable because being vulnerable and being hurt means that he cannot be loved.
Why? Why? I know episode 11 is meant to hurt but this feels like the wrong hurt. What did the show want me to feel here? Am I supposed to take away that Day only wanted Mhok as a boyfriend when he was Day's pillar and not when he needed Day to be a solid foundation for his healing? Am I supposed to think that Mhok was wrong to want to stay with Day and work on his career in Thailand rather than in Hawai'i?
Mhok would have lied to anyone in that moment because his want to stay with his lover was based in past trauma, in the loss of Rung, not in what was happening in the present. He admitted that. He was clear about that, that this was about his trauma and his pain and, apparently, that means he has to be alone.

Final Thoughts on The Trainee! (TL;DR That Last 4/4 Quarter Was a Major Fumble, But It Didn't Ruin the Whole Show For Me)
I had promised my friends @lurkingshan and @shortpplfedup that I honestly wouldn't write too much about The Trainee while it was airing, because I was mad sus about the crew of this show. Many of the crew of The Trainee had worked on an ill-fated GMMTV het drama called UMG, which aired last year, and which starred Nanon Korapat, Namtan Tipnaree, and Milk Pansa in an unfortunate, chemistry-devoid love triangle. It was a flop and I never finished it.
I had thought to think about where this crew came from about four episodes into The Trainee, when I realized that the MO of this series was to center not Ryan's and Jane's budding romance, but the inner workings of an office, and the infrastructures of making filmed content instead.
UMG was framed in a similar way. While the show struggled to contextualize romance among its characters, the center of each episode was actually about describing concepts regarding extraterrestrial life -- things like crop circles and whatever. (There were aliens in this show.) (Dammit, I can't find a gif of the aliens!) (Here's Milk with some boogie eyes instead, whatever.)
Tumblr media
As @lurkingshan wrote often during her watch of the series, The Trainee was ultimately a workplace BL, and I'd add to that that it was meant to serve as an educational series to GMMTV's unique audience. I wondered, early on in The Trainee, if I was just too damn old, as a working professional, to be an audience to this show. GMMTV's audience, of course, skews Gen Z and maybe very-late millennial -- GMMTV's shows are equivalent to shows airing on MTV or The CW by way of its majority audience market.
I certainly had a lot of experience by way of how interpersonal relationships mostly played out in this series (although I reeeeeally needed Judy to acknowledge her kissing Ba-Mhee and to talk about it, the way Jane acknowledged the power gap between him and Ryan after they started dating).
But, honestly? I ended up LOVING the breakdowns of how creating filmed content works, especially in regards to how viscerally and intensely these concepts were depicted.
And The Trainee stepped into some other territory, y'all! Many of us had intense discussions regarding bisexual inclusion and erasure once Tae and Ba-Mhee got back together. These concepts are sophisticated and important to ruminate on -- again, especially for a younger audience being fed most binary male-male and female-female queer media and concepts by a giant like GMMTV, which makes a ton of money on branding same-sex actors together. Queerness has a lot of spectrums, and bi inclusion was something I was glad this series unexpectedly took on.
So, against all this good stuff, that last 4/4 quarter sucked. I felt terrible for Ryan's 20-something hormones. Jane went to get a masters', and didn't even *call* his.... his boo? (Ryan wasn't Jane's boyfriend, obviously, maybe we could call Ryan his crush, his boo-boo, whatever.) Like. Jane didn't even come back to Thailand to visit, ever? Come awn now. If a show is feeding realism to a young audience by way of how corporate workplaces work, and how the art of an industry is made, at least please make the final romance a little more realistic!
(All y'all 20-somethings who were watching this show and wondering if you should wait five years for a potential boo to come back from overseas, please listen to your auntie here, GO DATE OTHER PEOPLE. Don't be like Ryan. Focus on *YOUR* NEEDS. This has been your reality-based PSA.)
But the rest of the finale was lovely for me. Jo, to me, was a realistic boss. He had a priority in keeping on Jane as an assistant director, because Jane was a great assistant director, and served well in that role, which served well for Jo's company. When Jane expressed an interest in growing, Jo knew that Jane couldn't do it in Jo's shadow -- and Jo said so. Jane taking a risk to LEAVE is a kind of risk I've had to confront time and time again in my own career, as I grew out of a workplace, and grew out of what that workplace was demanding of me. It's a wonderful notion for young people to contemplate on -- that movement in one's career must be first and foremost driven by the individual themself, for the sake of their own accountability to their growth.
I was thrilled to see Sea Tawinan in them white pants Ba-Mhee and Tae's engagement, Tae setting guardrails for himself to focus more on Ba-Mhee, and omg Pie's and Ba-Mhee's breakdown had me howling. Poon's a new fave as well. The Trainee confirmed my continued deep love and appreciation for Piploy, I think she's cute and great-great.
Tumblr media
I truly enjoyed this show. The crew ultimately de-centralized romance for most of the show to focus on how work lives and personal lives realistically intertwine. We are the same people at work as we are at home, with all of the messiness we bring to those tables, including unrecommended romances that may traverse age and power gaps. Things can get messy, but I think, other than the whole Judy thing and Jane ghosting Ryan for years (wtf man), The Trainee handled that messiness with empathy for the young people who did a lot of growing up during the course of this series.

WANDEE GOODDAY EPISODE 4
Tumblr media
We're one third of the way through now, and in my opinion Wandee Goodday is continuing to stay one step ahead of fan expectations, feinting in one direction before swiftly jabbing toward another. The erstwhile romantic sex comedy has since left its PWOP (porn without plot) novel origins far, far behind and is now confidently punching above its weight class in the ring (yes, boxing metaphor to start things off in honor of the Phadetseuk gym 🤣).
So WDGD Ep.4 was brought to us via the kind sponsorship of the emotion jealousy – we had Yak getting the baby green-eyes at Dee's antics around Ter, so unsubtly that even clumsy Dee could suss it out:
Tumblr media
(above) Wandee Goodday Ep.4 [1‌/4] 10.25 – Dee asks Yak point-blank at the breakfast table "Are you jealous?"
But WDGD then sprang nimbly in a different direction, shifting its emotional center of gravity when Dee started feeling the pangs of jealousy around Yak's pre-existing crush on Taem (after getting hit on the head with Kwan and Ter):
Tumblr media
(above) Wandee Goodday Ep.4 [1‌/4] 15.42 – In answering Yak as to whether Taem would have liked Yak's declaration of love on the balcony, we see that Dee – perhaps surprising himself here – was personally moved by it too (and also a little bit crushed to feel Yak's affections directed away from him, ostensibly toward Taem)
I really wasn't expecting this change of tack – like a lot of people I'd thought WDGD would make Yak's pining after Dee the main emotional trackway for the series, but now it looks like we have Yak aching over Dee and Ter, balanced out by Dee aching over Yak and Taem. These two! 😍
Given the complexity of emotions expected of him, Great doing a Mary MacGregor in Ep.4 was a fair bit shakier and less grounded compared to his heartfelt and clear-cut yearning for Dee in weeks past. In my opinion, Yak came across as a little too carefree and unaffected for someone who should have been struggling in the cross-currents between Dee and Taem.
Maybe that's just me. Or maybe Yak is just playing things out with Taem when his heart's true calling is for Dee, and getting Dee's help to woo Taem is all part of a bigger plan to win him over? 🤔
Anyway – surprise, surprise! WDGD then began showing us Ter feeling the stirrings of something rather like jealousy when he realized (like everyone else, except for the oblivious pair themselves) that YakDee was a thing:
Tumblr media
(above) Wandee Goodday Ep.4 [1‌/4] 7.38 – Dee and Yak bump into Ter and Kwan on their way back from buying a Thai-Chinese breakfast
Ter has been painted as very much a self-serving individual, the devil incarnate possibly (and yes, the vast majority of us clocked the number of the beast as his apartment unit):
Tumblr media
(above) Wandee Goodday Ep.4 [1‌/4] 9.36 – Ter outside his apartment number 666, contemplating the breakfast sandwich Kwan had given him
But looking at things again – Ter's apartment number really is just a sign placed on the wall of his apartment, and part of me is wondering if we're meant to read it as a metaphor for how we can sometimes have a label on the outside, that has very little to do with the real person residing within.
As an aside, I dug around some Thai websites to see if the triple six is all that ominous in Thailand – and the findings are mixed. There are plenty of Thai language articles that actually have to inform readers about the negative connotations of the number (suggesting that its bad reputation isn't quite as entrenched in Thailand, and its Biblical sense of menace is perhaps diluted). And there are more than a couple of sources attesting that it can also be viewed positively depending on the cultural framing – see these links here and here. 🤷‍♂️
WDGD also took pains to humanize Ter in showing us how happy he was at discovering Dee had left him a food gift in the past (remembering that food = love in Thai BL shorthand), and how much he seemed to miss it compared to Kwan's gift of a breakfast sandwich.
In case you didn't notice (I didn't either the first time around) Dee's food gift of congee with pa thong ko (ปาท่องโก๋/Thai-style Chinese crullers/youtiao), that he hung on Ter's doorhandle at Ep.4 [1‌/4] 9.11, was actually the same breakfast food that Ter saw YY and Dee walking hand-in-hand back with to Dee's apartment.
This was a clear a signal as any, from Ter's point-of-view, that Dee's loving affections were now trained toward Yak instead – and you can knock me down with a feather if that isn't pain we're seeing on Ter's face at the realization of what he's lost.
So I'm not quite ready to paint Ter as the über-villain just yet (though we may have to do so later, depending on where the narrative takes us). We're being shown a character who – at least in the beginning – was living more for himself, who's possibly closeted (remembering his Ep.1 [3‌/4] 3.26 "I like girls" comment) but also going through some sort of personal awakening even as YY's presence in Dee's life stirs up feelings he might not have known he had for the latter.
Here's to hoping Ter gets a better story arc out of this, but we'll see if WDGD really has the time or inclination to go there, or will take the lazy route and dish up Ter as nothing more than a flatly-painted, unvarnished villain (not an alien concept among the less ambitious BLs).
Now, I was originally going to post a bit more about WDGD's loftier thematic ambitions (there are some signs flashing, and they point to this BL having a social conscience) but I think I'll give the series more time to flesh things out to see what the final message is. But the following disparate elements coming together do seem to be telegraphing a message with an underlying, socially-driven impetus:
Director Golf's name doubling as the hospital's one;
The orthopedics and Dee's care for little Namphu;
The doctors and nurses;
The supporters on either side of the scholarship divide;
The found families.
I will probably write more on this later – unless WDGD decides not to follow through with it! But for now, I think at least part of what WDGD seems to be saying on a socio-political level is this – that those in positions of influence/authority also have a duty to serve the community under their charge.
This is the message (I think) behind Director Golf's cameo at the Café for All, in which they were both proprietor and/or manager as well as server to the customers, emphasizing how this duality of leadership and service can (and perhaps should) also go hand-in-hand:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(top) The Eclipse – Ep.4 [3‌/4] 4.31; (bottom) Wandee Goodday Ep.2 [3‌/4] 7.28
It's a particularly pointed comment, given how many politicians have been accused of using their time in government to further their own interests rather than those of the people who put them there. (And especially since Director Golf has also spent time in politics, and may well have come up against this firsthand.) Of course it's not just in Thailand where these accusations are flung about – they also get tossed around in the broader Southeast Asian context and indeed in the rest of the world as well. But perhaps it's not entirely without reason that WDGD is messaging this, at this time (see these posts/articles linked here, here, here and here – you may need to read between the lines a bit 😉).
So putting their money where their mouth is, Director Golf ended Wandee Goodday Ep.4 with a pretty groundbreaking act of service – that PSA on the importance of HPV vaccination. 👀
Tumblr media
And aligned with Director Golf's clarion call on inclusivity (that was sounded especially loudly during their time as a politician in Parliament), we're also shown that the would-be vaccination recipients include people who look like (to me at least) a non-binary individual, a gay couple, a straight couple and a lesbian couple: 😊👍
Tumblr media
(above) Various people at the HPV Vaccination Center – Wandee Goodday Ep.4 [4/4] 11.37
We've been spared the usual embarrassment of clunky product placements (much like The Eclipse was) that seems to plague many a GMMTV series, not that I'd really been bothered by it all that much (they're an intrinsic part of the BL cultural landscape at this point).
But Director Golf really seems to be saying: it's not just about the money anymore. BL does have influence in the wider sphere, and it should (and should be allowed to) wield that influence as a force for the public good as well. 🤩
I may be reading too much into things again (like I've done before) but at the very least, Wandee Goodday imbued with a social conscience makes me feel even better watching this already feel-good vehicle! 😍

Phi, any recommendations on shows that invoke the same warm fuzziness as We Are? I need friendship and soft giggles in my life again.
Soft BLs Centered Around a Friendship Group
example: We Are
Tumblr media
This is Thailand's bailiwick, so the ones that satisfy all your criteria are gonna be Thai.
There are in order of my personal preferences. Best at the top.
My School President
Cherry Magic (Thai remake)
Love By Chance (AePete cut)
Destiny Seeker
2 Moons 2
2 Moons Ambassador
2gether series
En of Love series
My Engineer
Nitiman
La Cuisine
Make it Right series
Gen Y series
Secret Crush on You
Tonhon Chonlatee
Tumblr media
I will say that The Kiss series+ has my favorite friendship group but I can't in good conscious call Dark Blue Kiss soft. So it's not on this list. But I wanna give it a nod.
Much smaller friendships groups but they kinda there?
Oh! Boarding House
Love Class 2 (Korea) it not hard but also it's not really about the friendships until the end. But it's the closest Korea as come to this kind of BL.
The New Employee
All the Liquors
My Day
DNA Says Love You
Tie The Not
Papa and Daddy
Second Chance
My Lascivious Boss
Stupid Genius (most of the "stupid" series from Vietnam)
My Gear and Your Gown
21 Days Theory
Ai Long Nhai
My Secret Love
Tumblr media
Good Friendships Groups but Harsher BLs
Bad Buddy
Until We Meet Again
The Sign
SOTUS
Theory of Love
Deep Night
Love Sick series
Oh! My Sunshine Night
Pit Babe
Tumblr media
Usually I stop my pulls at 7/10 but in this instance I included some 6/10s. Just FYI. Some of the ones lower down in each category really aren't all that good.
Hope there are some here you haven't seen. My personal suggestion might actually be La Cuisine. I think it's giving the requisite softness.

Can I get a 💃 for firstprince?? 😊🙏
for you, my dear, this one is *lightly* inspired by that scene in call my by your name ;) here we see more of Alex & Henry on their honeymoon in Thailand! continues below the cut
dancing with the locals
Alex was suddenly being tugged by the wrist to the dance floor by a nice older lady, probably his abuela's age. He turned back to Henry, sitting at the small bistro table sipping his drink. Waving his hand in a "shoo" motion, he gestured for Alex to join the local woman for a dance.
Henry watched with heart eyes as his husband spun the woman around the dance floor. He could only imagine how long it had been since such a young, handsome man had danced with her like that, and his heart swelled watching Alex give her this attention.
Having watched Alex take to many a dance floor, he could tell his husband was holding back on his usual hip gyrations and sensual movements. Obviously, Henry thought. He wasn't trying to woo this elderly woman like he had Henry so many times before.
As Henry looked around the outdoor bar, he took note of many faces turned toward his husband. His husband, the center of attention in every room without even trying. His mind wandered to their wedding night only a week ago, all eyes on them as Alex twirled him around the dance floor, finishing with a dramatic dip and a kiss that they finally did not have to hide behind closed doors.
Lost in thought, Henry didn't even notice that the slow song had transitioned into a more upbeat one, and Alex was approaching the bistro table once again. With his hand extended, Alex asked, "May I have this dance?"
Henry was blushing despite himself, and despite the fact that he was whole ass married to this man. Nevertheless, he took Alex's hand and followed him to the dance floor.
They danced and swayed, allowing their bodies to flow into each other to the beat of the music. In this foreign land, away from all duties and responsibilities, they got lost in each other without a care of who was watching.
request a ficlet!

Throughout history, the dates that count as the "new year" have changed a couple of times due to regime changes and political decisions within Thailand. Today, the official new year is on January 1st, like the rest of the world. The 1st of January is called ปีใหม่ (“pi mai”), ปี is “year,” and ใหม่ is “new.”
Alongside this is Songkran-สงกรานต์. Songkran is considered the Thai New Year that takes place in mid-April. The date of Songkran used to be calculated each year by a royal astrologer, but now, for practical reasons, it is officially on April 13–15 every year. Taking place during a long weekend, Songkran is the time of year when people emphasize the importance of honoring their ancestors and taking a break to go home and spend time with their families. Offices and shops close to accommodate the holiday and travel plans, which can be the whole weekend or extend to the entire week.
Like many Thai traditions, Songkran has a lot of Brahmanism influence and many aspects that involve Buddhism. Buddhism is the most prominent religion in Thailand, with more than 90% of Thai people being Buddhist. Therefore, many significant acts during Songkran symbolize cleansing, unity, and good fortune for the upcoming new year. Bathing Buddha images and making merits with family members is traditionally done, and other fun activities, such as water fights, feasting, games, and folk dance, are also part of the celebration (UNESCO, TheNationThailand).
Currently, to boost tourism in Thailand, the Thai government has extended Songkran celebrations in various ways. Places such as Silom Road and Khao San Road are spotlighted as destinations to attract international travel, all while encompassing the usual Thai traditions of water fights, street food, and music (SindhornMidtown). Many places and institutions have begun their countdown to Songkran!

Here, at SongkranFest, we will be counting down the days to Songkran by sharing information about Songkran! This information will help our participants become more knowledgeable about the Thai New Year, as well as help them center Thai culture in their fanworks.

To raise enough cash to make the deal happen, Golden Gate sold off Red Lobster's real estate to another entity — in this case, a company called American Realty Capital Properties — and then immediately leased the restaurants back. The next year, Red Lobster bought back some sites, but many of its restaurants were suddenly strapped with added rent expenses. Even if Darden had kept Red Lobster, it's not clear it would have taken a different route: A press release from the time says it had contacted buyers to explore such a transaction. But in Maze's view, the sale of the real estate was sort of an original sin for Red Lobster's current troubles. He compared it to throwing out a spare parachute — chances are, you'll be OK, but if the first parachute fails, you're in deep trouble. "The thing that private equity does is just unload assets and monetize assets. And so they effectively paid for the purchase of Red Lobster by selling the real estate," he said. "It'll probably be fine, generally, but there's going to come a time in which your sales fall, your profitability is challenged, and your debt looks too bad, and then suddenly those leases are going to look awfully ugly." That time, according to recent reporting, is now. With struggling sales and operational losses, the leases are an added headache that is helping push the company to the brink, though bankruptcy may help Red Lobster get some wiggle room on them. Eileen Appelbaum, a codirector of the Center for Economic and Policy Research, a progressive think tank, and a longtime private-equity critic, said in 2014 that private equity wouldn't be the solution to Red Lobster's ills. She isn't surprised about how this is all turning out. "Once they sell the real estate, then the private-equity company is golden, and they've made their money back and probably more than what they paid," she said, noting that this was a common theme in other restaurants and retailers and adding: "The retail apocalypse is all about having your real estate sold out from under you so that you have to pay the rent in good times and in bad." After the real estate move, Golden Gate sold 25% of the company in 2016 to Thai Union, a Thailand seafood company, for $575 million and unloaded the rest of the company to an investor group called the Seafood Alliance, of which Thai Union was a part, in 2020. Golden Gate likely came out ahead, but the same can't be said for Thai Union, which also controls the Chicken of the Sea brand. It is now looking to get out of its stake in Red Lobster and took a one-time charge of $530 million on its investment in the fourth quarter of last year. In 2021, Red Lobster refinanced its debt, with one of its new lenders being Fortress Investment Group, an investment-management group and private-equity firm. According to Bloomberg, it's one of the "key lenders" involved in debt negotiations now.

͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏͏ ͏ ͏ ͏✧˖°☀️ . . ࣪. SUNLITE was a South Korean girl group under Flowerbank Entertainment. Debuting in 2017 after the conclusion of their survival show, Finding the Sun, which is the only Flowerbank-hosted survival show. Originally debuting as a six-piece, the group would fail to gain the public's attention until two years into their career and the departure of one of their members, Lucy.
They would hit virality in early 2020 with their TikTok classic, Cupid, skyrocketing the once nugu girl group to stardom. Flowerbank worked quickly to keep the hype around the girls, keeping them booked and busy throughout all of 2020 and 2021.
Despite their success domestically and internationally, Sunlite would lose another member, Mina, at the end of 2021, citing "contractual disagreements" as the reason for her departure. Quickly, netizens would notice the remaining members liking posts shading Mina and calling her deadweight and that Sunlite would be better without her. Mina, the remaining four members, and Flowerbank have never commented on this matter besides snide comments the members would make.
Now a four-piece, Sunlite is Flowerbank's favorite homegrown success story. Flowerbank often mentions their organic growth and natural progression to where they are now in the industry. All four members have resigned their contracts with Flowerbank and plan to stay a group until they're little old ladies.

TYLER RODRIGUEZ, 1999 ... Tyler originally began her idol journey under BigHit, being a member of the now scrapped girl group LUVZYOU. LuvzYou never got off the ground, being scrapped just four months before their supposed debut. Tyler, though left devastated, refused to give up on her dream and applied to compete in Finding The Sun. On FTS, she'd grow a dedicated fanbase, being praised for her dedication, humor, and talents, finishing the program in third place. Tyler is a well-known and respected producer, going under the alias ITZTY, and has worked with many Flowerbank groups as well as ITZY, ZB1, Enhypen, Aespa, and many more. She is the FACE OF THE GROUP, the MAIN RAPPER, the PRODUCER, and the LEAD VOCALIST of Sunlite.
JEONG MIHEE, 1997 ... Mihee was one of Flowerbank's longest trainees, training for seven years by the time she went on Finding The Sun. After showing her undying dedication to performing, Mihee would finish the show in first place, becoming the group's center. She would go on to debut solo in 2022 with "ILY2," which was produced by Tyler. Mihee is the first one to defend the members of Sunlite online and soothe any tensions between them and the former members. She is often referred to as "Mother" by their fanbase. She is the CENTER, the MAIN VOCALIST, and the LEAD DANCER of Sunlite.
STAR VORAPAT, 2000 ... Star was simply born to be a star. Noted as having the hardest time on Finding The Sun, being massively disliked by netizens for her "mean look" and "blunt attitude," she would end up finishing in 6th place thanks to international voting. Despite her initial rocky start with netizens, the internet slowly grew fond of her the more she was able to show her talents and her fierce dedication to Sunlite. However, she is a divisive character amongst the fans due to her initiating the feud between Sunlite and former member Mina and refusing to let up or let it go. She recently made her acting debut in Thailand, starring in the GL "Flowers in the Ocean.". She is the MAIN DANCER, the LEAD RAPPER, and the LEAD VOCALIST of Sunlite.
SARAH "SIYU" SONG, 2001 ... Born in sunny California, Sarah, professionally known by her Korean name Siyu, was born to a musical actress mother and a stage director father. With her natural abilities, Siyu began trying out for K-pop companies at the age of 12 with the help of her mother, being accepted by SM, JYP, and Jellyfish Entertainment, but she turned them all down to train under Flowerbank. While on Finding The Sun, Siyu would be a favorite amongst Knetz for her sweet attitude, visuals, and heavenly vocals. She would end up finishing the show in second place. Siyu has the most OSTs under her belt, being more known for her OSTs than being in Sunlite for a while. Though she has over 30 OSTs to her name, she has yet to debut solo, claiming she "hasn't found her sound yet.". Siyu is the MAIN VOCALIST, the VISUAL, and MAKNAE of Sunlite.
KIM "LUCY" SUJI, 1998 ... Lucy was very quiet while in Sunlite. Though noted for having a beautiful voice and ranking fifth on Finding The Sun, her performance left much to be desired, and she was often picked on by netizens online. She was the center of a hate train in 2018 when a clip of her performing went viral for being "lazy" and missing a few of the steps. Though her members, specifically Mihee and Tyler, would defend her online and in person, the hate seemed to follow whatever Lucy would do. She was given the nickname "the prettiest dozen" by alleged fans, even being referred to it at fansigns. Due to this, Lucy would go on hiatus in 2019 for depression and anxiety before completely withdrawing from the group just a few months later. While still under Flowerbank as a songwriter, Lucy has not been seen publicly since she deactivated her Instagram in 2021. She was the group's MAIN VOCALIST and SUB-RAPPER.
LEE MINA, 2001 ... Mina is a very divisive character in the fandom. Called a "firecracker" by her former members, Mina showed a highly skilled level of performing and rapping but had a hard time working with others. She would often argue with leaders of her team on Finding The Sun, finding it difficult to do things that weren't the way she wanted them. Despite this, Mina would end up ranking fourth on the show, earning herself quite a dedicated fanbase. Mina's problematic behavior has been documented from even before the group's debut, a stan account allegedly belonging to Mina would expose her for being a troll and saying very nasty things about various groups, taunting idols for their looks, and spreading malicious rumors about them. Though Flowerbank denied this account belonged to Mina, fans still believe there's enough evidence to connect the account to her as well as various instances of her being just an overall not nice person. Despite these claims, the girls would defend her and would tell people to leave Mina alone. That was until her abrupt departure in 2021 when the liking of shady tweets about her began. Mina has been shady towards Sunlite herself, stating she never liked their music and is glad she's an actress now and not a "cheap idol". Mina was the group's MAIN RAPPER, LEAD DANCER, and SUB-VOCALIST.

flower/plant in dramas
Prompted by the conversation I had with @colourme-feral about plumeria and jasmine being featured in the first episode of I Feel You Linger in the Air (and also, plumeria was featured in KinnPorsche during the scene with Khun Spikes our beloved), I was tempted to write this post. Honestly, I always love to see how flowers or plants or even parks (not theme-parks) are used in dramas. Flowers and plants give visual localities and in many cases it's a part of natural and cultural elements of a place where the drama is set. And for me, it is always interesting to see how people 'place' their priority on parks, or to some extent, forests, through a piece of media; are they treated just as a side / decorative elements (as an escapade, or simply a break, destination, maybe), or as center stages? (Sorry, I was once an architecture/landscape architecture graduate and still, until today, have this default interest towards these living elements -- tropical flowers and forests my beloved! --, and since I LOVE watching my Asian shows, how they were presented there - will I always write about them, though, that's another case.) So, I am thinking of making some posts about flowers in dramas (specifically in Thai dramas). As I focused more on the Southeast Asian context, I might miss some facts about of the flower(s) from the perspective of other regions, but hopefully I didn't leave out anything significant.
part 1 - plumeria/frangipani
Plumeria (or also popular as frangipani) is a genus of flowering plants native to the Neotropical areas (including Mexico, Central America, the Caribbean, Brazil, and Florida in the US) but had been spread throughout the warm tropical regions as ornamentals. I'm not going to list its different types of species but given that Plumeria is known more as a common name, here's a list of how the flower is also called across Southeast Asia's region: Frangipani, Cempaka, Kemboja, Bunga kubur (Malaysia); Kamboja (Indonesia); Kalachuchi, Kalasutsing-puti, Kalasutsing pula (the Philippines); Lan-thom-khaao, Lam-thom-daeng, Lee-laao-dee (Thailand); and Dai (Vietnam). Please feel free to correct me if you see any of these names to be wrong.
There's no clear evidence on how and when exactly the plants came to Southeast Asia, however, two temples in Indonesia (one built in the 9th century and the other in the 14th century before the European came to the region) had the flower trees depicted in their relief.
In Southeast Asia, both the flower and the trees of Plumeria are considered sacred. The flower is strongly associated with religion and temple life in both Hindu and Buddhist cultures, for examples, it is used by the Balinese Hindus in their temple offerings.
The Plumeria is also linked to ghosts and graveyards in the Philippines, Indonesia, and Malaysia where the trees are often planted at cemeteries both to give shading and to function as signage. Bunga kubur, one of the known names of Plumeria in Malaysia, literally means cemetery/graveyard (=kubur, or kuburan in Indonesian) flower (=bunga). Locals believe that the flowers give shelter to ghosts and spirits. In Malaysian-Indonesian folklores specifically, the flower's fragrance is even associated with a certain type of mythological creature that is a vampiric spirit (who likes to hang out on the trees), thus the flower often perceived as bad luck.
However, on the other side, Plumerias are also commonly used as ornamental plants in houses, parks, parking lots, and other open area as part of the elements of modern landscaping.
This interesting article compiles five interpretations of Plumeria flower meaning across various cultures, those are: (1) Peace, joy, and warm welcomes; (2) Openness to new relationships or loyalty to existing ones; (3) Ties to death and immortality; (4) Fertility, rebirth, and femininity; and (5) Medicinal healing powers.
The article above, with additional information taken from here, said that in Thailand, the way they would say Plumeria (ลั่นทม / lân-tom) was similar to the word for 'sorrow', or 'gloomy, sad, and depressed' (ระทม / rá-tom). This might be why the flower had a negative meaning to the people or community in the past and considered an unlucky plant. However, this perspective is changing and now Plumeria (or Frangipani) has a new name that is ลีลาวดี / Lii-laa-wá-dii/Lee-laao-dee.
Lastly, here's another article that talks more about Kalachuchi (another name for Plumeria) flower.
the flower in dramas:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
KinnPorsche -- Remember our Khun Spike. Plumeria flowers here were used as offering or signage on top of the grave.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I Feel You Linger in the Air -- A Plumeria flower here was used as a prop, depicted falling from the sky onto the top of a plate of jasmines. It might hold some symbolisms: a welcome, an openness, or transfer of 'spirit' or soul across the time dimension.
Next, I plan to write about jasmine (Part 2) and hibiscus (Part 3).

Another violent man trying to worm his way into spaces with vulnerable women. Did he feel like a woman when he attacked a women’s health center?
By Anna Slatz March 20, 2024
A trans-identified male serving a 53-year sentence for multiple domestic terrorism charges is suing the Bureau of Prisons, demanding transfer to a women’s prison. Emily Claire Hari, formerly known as Michael Hari, led a ragtag right-wing militia called Patriot Freedom Fighters, later re-named to the White Rabbits.
Hari, along with the small group, began engaging in criminal activity in 2017 with the intention of carrying out acts of domestic terrorism. In August of that year, Hari’s group set an improvised incendiary device near the Imam’s office of the Dar-al Farooq Islamic Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota. One of Hari’s associates, Micheal McWhorter, would later confirm the purpose of the attack was to “scare Muslims out of the United States.” No one was injured in the attack.
In November of 2017, Hari and his “soldiers” targeted the Women’s Health Practice in Champaign, Illinois, where they threw a pipe bomb into the building. The bomb did not detonate and was found by a receptionist of the clinic who called police to safely extract the device from the facility.

Hari and his militia would go on to engage in a series of petty crimes in an attempt to gather the funds to continue their operations, including robbing a Hispanic man and holding up two local Walmarts in Clarence, Illinois in December of 2017.
In early 2018, Hari and his ‘militia’ attempted to sabotage railroad tracks near Effingham, Illinois with a bomb. After the attack, the group sent ransom emails demanding $190,000 in cryptocurrency under threat they would damage the railway further.
Shortly after, Hari tried to frame another individual for the crimes, but the effort would only lead to Federal Investigators more easily tracking him and the members of his militia down.
Hari and his colleagues were ultimately arrested, and, in 2021, Hari was sentenced to 53 years for his role in the Dar al-Farooq bombing. He later received an additional 14 years in 2022 on a number of other charges related to his domestic terrorist activity and the attempted bombing of the women’s clinic. The 14 years is to be served concurrently with the 53-year sentence.
During his trial, it was revealed that Hari identified as a transgender “woman.” While leading the White Rabbit militia, he had been searching terms such as ‘sex change,’ ‘transgender surgery,’ and ‘post-op transgender’ on the internet. Hari allegedly planned on fleeing to Thailand to get ‘gender affirming’ surgeries.
Hari had asked the court to take his gender dysphoria into consideration, and made a request for an amended federal prison placement based on his identity. The details of his request were placed under a seal and the presiding judge stated he would defer to the Bureau of Prisons to make the final call.
But Reduxx has now learned that the judge in the case recommended Hari be placed at FMC Carswell, a female institution, but that Bureau of Prisons instead sent him to a men’s facility. As a result, Hari launched a lawsuit agains the Bureau of Prisons in late 2022 in a case that has been quietly making its way through the US District Court in the Central District of Illinois.
Hari is seeking transfer to a women’s prison under the Bureau of Prison’s transgender policy, which was amended in February of 2022 to make a transgender inmate’s “personal safety” and gender identity a priority when determining housing.
In his complaint, which was hand-written, Hari claims he has been subjected to sexual harassment by “dangerous tranny chasers,” and made fun of for his gender identity. He has since filed over two dozen “exhibits,” attempting to show the court he does not belong in a men’s prison. Among these exhibits include photos of himself wearing a dress-like inmate uniform.
Hari formally applied for transfer to a women’s prison in October of 2023, attempting to exhaust his internal remedies.
In an email exchange dated January 10, 2024, the Transgender Executive Council, which makes housing decisions, re-affirmed his placement at the men’s facility and told Hari his case would be re-reviewed in November — something Hari had been told repeatedly in the past.

In a Motion for Miscellaneous Relief, Hari claimed that if he were not transferred to a women’s prison in November, he would go on a hunger strike and slice off his own penis.
“The hunger strike is a political protest against both the conditions that I have been held under, and the conditions that my transgender sisters have been held under in BOP custody,” Hari wrote. “If I am not given some reasonable assurance that I am to be moved to a gender affirming housing by November 5, I will initiate a hunger strike and auto-castration on that date.”

From the motion for miscellaneous relief filed on November 13, 2023.
Hari is currently housed at Allenwood USP, a high-security facility in Pennsylvania for male offenders. While he is classified as a “male” inmate, his name in the BOP system has been changed from “Michael” to “Emily.”
If Hari is moved to FMC Carswell, he will be one of several dangerous trans-identified males held at the facility.
As previously broken by Reduxx in December, a trans-identified male convicted of rape and child sexual abuse was transferred FMC Carswell after launching a lawsuit against the Bureau of Prisons claiming “discrimination.” July Justine Shelby, born William McClain, was convicted on multiple counts of child pornography trafficking after being caught distributing photos of infants being sexually abused.
According to Keep Prisons Single Sex USA, there are approximately 1,980 transgender offenders in the federal system, of which 1,295 are trans-identified males. Of them, almost 50% are in custody for sex offenses. This is compared to just 12% of the general federal inmate population, meaning that trans-identified males are incarcerated for sex offenses at a rate of almost four times that of non-transgender inmates.
Between 2022 and 2023, there was an almost 23% increase of federal inmates who identified as transgender.

A little bit more on I Feel You Linger In The Air (reincarnation, the novel version, and more)...
I am back home and recovering from a somewhat INSANELY stressful work trip (WHEW! TIRED!), and I've missed writing meta oh so very much, BUT! A couple of things will be happening in my meta life soon: The Old GMMTV Challenge Bad Buddy Meta Month starts next week (FINALLY, EEE!), Last Twilight starts tomorrow, the Den-Panuwat-penned-and-Only-Friends-adjacent series Playboyy starts next week -- we got a lot going on.
AND, AND! AND! I did myself something good while I was away. I HOUSED the novel version of I Feel You Linger in the Air, because, BECAUSE! I still can't help screaming mentally about that finale -- even though reading the novel actually made me realize that episode 12 of IFYLITA was a touch redundant.
Related to the IFYLITA novel and series: I got an ask in my inbox that somehow disappeared (@porjomkwan, if you're still out there -- thank you for the ask!) that asked about my thoughts on the theme of reincarnation in IFYLITA, and cited this fabulous post and reblog by @tipsyjaehyun and @clairedaring about this theme. Tipsy and Claire covered the majority of the ground that the drama series captures regarding reincarnation -- in particular, the GORGEOUS focus on the northern Thai blessing ceremony that calls back to a human host the 32 spirits that a host carries with them throughout their life/lives. Those spirits can be incarnated and/or reincarnated within repeated and/or beloved figures of the host's memories and reincarnated lives. (That explains why people like Ohm and Kaimook, in Jom's present life, are reincarnated as Khamsean and Fong Kaew in Jom's life of 1928 Chiang Mai. And it explains how Jom can continue to be called to different eras involving Yai, from Commander/Warrior/Mustache Yai of ancient Thailand, to 1928 Chiang Mai Khun Yai, to present-day Chiang Mai Yai Kanthorn.)
@clairedaring notes in their reblog that in the novel, the foundational theme of reincarnation AND of Jom and Yai being forever bound to each other is confirmed, directly and heavily, by Commander Yai. Claire quotes from the novel Commander/Warrior Yai speaking to Jom :
"Jom-Jao, listen, though you are fated to be apart from me, my love will never fade, and it will follow you like a holy spirit, protecting you in my place. No matter where fate brings you, no matter the danger you encounter, may those misfortunes fall upon my spirit instead of yours."
I want to confirm that this is my understanding and experience of the centering and grounding of reincarnation in the series as well (@porjomkwan, this answers your question to me!). And, this very much speaks to what I understand was a gentle criticism by Thai audiences towards the show as this season of the show ended -- because the Commander Yai period really sets in stone what Jom can expect for the rest of his live(s) regarding having Yai in his life again in another time period. In which case, I agree HEAVILY with @clairedaring that IFYLITA absolutely needs a season 2, because that Commander Yai period is so definitive of how this first season gets contextualized in the end of the entire piece.
A couple of other quick notes on the novel before I move to a comparative final point:
1) JOM. JOM IS A SASSY B IN THE NOVEL. DAMN! I honestly think Nonkul Chanon could DEF handle being a touch more sassy. "I'm a grown-ass man," Jom says at one point. Yes, you ARE, HONEY! Sassy B Jom courting and standing up to Commander Yai? It was a WONDERFUL story line. (BTW, the quality of the writing of the IFYLITA Y novel was, as expected, wanting, especially by way of a fan translation. But I have to agree with fans of the novel from Thailand and elsewhere, that the story itself was SOLID.)
2) The history behind the Commander Yai period is FABULOUS to learn about. (@tipsyjaehyun has some context about the various eras of Yai here, if you don't mind a few novel spoilers.) In particular, I spent a LOT of minutes reading about the lengthy reign of the Ayutthaya Kingdom in Thailand, and just -- as an Asian and an Asian-American watching Thai shows, getting deep into this reminds me of my own accountability and responsibility for trying to grasp what an average Thai viewer will bring by way of education-based historical awareness into shows like IFYLITA. This long Wikipedia article is a must read if you want to go deeper into IFYLITA context!
3) My third point on the novel leads into what I quickly want to note by way of at least one comparison to another show that did reincarnation themes differently, but also beautifully, by way of an original Y novel.
Until We Meet Again is a permanent FAVE of mine -- and it captures reincarnation, at least a different style of it, within its drama context. In UWMA's context, a red thread tied between the passed bodies of the lovers Korn and Intouch ensures that their spirits will find each other again in the future.
As noted within UWMA, different Asian cultures have different reads on the meaning of the red thread, from China, to Thailand, to elsewhere. This article notes northwestern and Vietnamese beliefs regarding the red thread, and this Wikipedia article notes the Chinese origins of the myths of the red thread. (Remember than in IFYLITA, the blessing ceremony of calling 32 spirits back to a host is cited as being from northern Thailand -- meaning, many of these myths, legends, and practices are utterly regional, and very tied to specific regional cultures that we can learn more about as viewers. Super cool.)
In UMWA, Korn's and Intouch's spirits inhabit other bodies -- namely, Dean's and Pharm's personages. And Dean and Pharm take on some characteristics of the spirits they provide a home to, and, even more interestingly -- Dean's and Pharm's OWN behaviors reflect the regrets and/or resistances that Korn and Intouch bear to each other, with Korn's spirit being far more forward with love than he was when he was alive; and Intouch's spirit being far more fearful of that love, knowing in the end where his love led to -- their deaths.
In IFYLITA, we see Yai's spirit being reborn essentially into different version of Yai, and all of them called Yai. In the novel, Jom treats all of these Yais as Yais that he can fall in love with -- he is in love with all of them, because the spirit of Yai is essentially a singular spirit being reborn into various different versions of the body of Yai (quick spoiler: the modern-day Yai is only half-Thai).
I happen to REALLY love these various interpretations of reincarnation between these shows, and certainly many, many more shows and movies across Asia that touch upon reincarnation as an essential theme of HOPE, of love, of joy. The various ways in which these practices are regarded, from Buddhism, to Hinduism, to Shintoism, and other Asian spiritual practices, are fascinating to learn about, including their regional variances. And they speak very much to me as an Asian, as to how I learn about cultural practices, nuances, and mores. (A comparative cultural example is how food -- like, say, a dish like Hainanese chicken rice -- differs among Thailand, Malaysia, and Singapore.)
But also, as an Asian watching shows like UWMA and IFYLITA -- I *know* that when I'm watching a show that's based on spirit reincarnation, that I'm not necessarily watching a "sad" show. I remember, of the day dramas of Japan and Korea that I watched when I was younger, that I absorbed better understandings of ancestor worship and elder respect. If a house had an altar with a picture of a passed-on elderly relative -- surely it was understood that that relative had passed away and one could be sad about it. But their spirit is meant to be honored at the altar, and especially in Japanese and Korean family dramas with these kinds of scenes, you can see characters speaking to the pictures of those who have passed on, having conversations, and being the subject of annual ceremonies of honoring the dead.
In other words, what I utterly LOVED about the IFYLITA novel -- and what I truly hope a season 2 will capture -- is that the Yais of the various eras were not despondent when Jom left them. Those Yais knew that a future Yai would experience Jom again. Korn and Intouch knew their spirits would meet again one day: it was Dean and Pharm that needed to come together to make that happen.
I wrote quite a bit about the Asian cinematic tradition of sad and/or open-ended endings in my review of The Love of Siam, and I think one reason why I absolutely cannot shake IFYLITA from my system -- and even UWMA, too, although UWMA has a confirmed happy ending -- is that IFYLITA is utterly reflective of this practice of the open-ended ending, at least for the show's first season, because we KNOW, through reincarnation, that Jom WILL encounter Yai again. If you read the novel, you know that Commander Yai promises this. But even if you don't read the novel, and we never get a season 2 -- to see Yai Kanthorn strolling right into Jom's arms, without very much other context, is enough, at least for an Asian audience, to know that the spirits did their thing again. Dramatically, I do think the finale could use more finessing (cc @lurkingshan and @neuroticbookworm, to whom I said this when I finished the novel), but now that I have the novel's context, I know HOW the finale could have been improved.
I took this ask as a major excuse to just unwind more and more on a piece that I totally loved in IFYLITA, and I hope to heck that we get a second season. I am thrilled that I made IFYLITA my debut into Y series reading, because the story is just so solid, and as I often say about my really beloved shows -- IFYLITA does not shy away from being rooted in assumed knowledge about cultural practices that an Asian audience can automatically check into. It really felt familiar and homey to watch this incredibly made and well-told story about an enduring romance, and I'm so appreciative that IFYLITA will be a show I'll be holding close as this year closes out -- a year that started off on the strongest Asian note with the fabulous Moonlight Chicken. MLC and IFYLITA encapsulating 2023 for Asian audiences? We were fed really, really well.
