MELLO

When Mello first saw you he was intrigued. He knew what punk was obviously but actually seeing someone who was punk in person was a different story. The way you carried yourself with confidence and with your individuality oozing off of you, he was a bit smitten. So he asked you out. In the long route even if you said no- he was going to ask again anyways.

After dating for sometime you thought it would be good to reallt explain to him how you were and what it truly meant. What you were for. And you were for non-conformity. You were more politically active than most and constantly stated your disagreements with media and politics today, and even with Mello basically just staring at you- there was no embarrassment or shyness in your tone. You meant what you were saying.

Over time, Mello began to slowly absorb you and your views. ‘Anti-whatever sort of system we live in’ was what he chanted after you had gone on rants about what you believed was truly right in such a system, and it was so adorable because he truly thought that was impactful. So adorable in fact that everytime he said it you stopped everything to coddle him and embrace him. And every time, you were being fooled because he did it on purpose. 1 - Mello, 0 - You.

Now your music was not something that was hard for him to get into. He enjoys seeing you headbang or move in such ways to. Maybe you were playing classic Green Day, Circle Jerks, Misfits, whatever it was there was always something that stuck with him. He enjoyed the emotion involved- he could feel angry or frustrated or just motivated in general through the music.

Sometimes he saw you checking and would honestly be so zoned out watching you. Whether your hair was in locs. Shaved on the sides, or completely shaved off there was something about watching you and your focus on your appearance. He understood that being punk wasn’t just black clothes or objecting any modern rule, of course not. It was a way to reject the political as well as social norms of the world. And Mello loves attention and standing out so he actually started buying clothes like yours too!! He’s not completely punk but he likes trying for you.

L

L is a complicated soul he is. When he first saw you he was honestly confused. Why did you look like that- were you angry? Why were you so stone-faced. And to be honest, it was a little scary to him. Once you noticed him you walked over and for a second he thought you were going to scold him but instead you smiled and held out your hand. “Y/n.” You said, and he felt his heart beat a bit faster. Let’s not focus on that though.

You began dating quite fast as he felt no reason to wait. So when you began dating is when he began asking his questions about why you dress like that and why tou style your hair in that way, and you had given him the simple answer.

“I’m punk.”

“....what is that.”

And it’s not that he’s dumb but he’s not all that impressive when it comes to subcultures. I mean he’s a detective- he doesn’t have to be. But since his s/o is one he’ll take it upon himself to research and check his knowledge and make sure it is also the same case with you since he learned not all punk’s have some sort of consensus.

“So you are doing this to show that you go against the way things are now? Like a silent rebellion?”

“Sure yeah.”

It’s simple talks like those that happen all the time because he constantly wants to know more about you, despite being able to ask you himself, he likes surprising you with his knowledge. However he also knows that some things he has to get specifically from you since you’re black and most punk represented in the media is classically white people- he wants to understand your perspective out of all this. Nobody else’s.

When you start playing your music he kind of shuts down? He just stares at you because he’s not too sure if he likes the music or not but he soon warms up to it. He enjoys The Clash the most, he likes most of what yoy play though.

When you talk to him about politics and your beliefs he tries to listen and tie it to his understanding of being punk as well but sometimes he can’t tell if it’s something you believe or it’s a common punk belief, not that it matters, but still.

Overall this is a learning experience he doesn’t mind learning for you. It doesn’t even affect him in a negative way so he has no reason to be against it I mean, he can still kiss you and feed you cake after work so what is the problem?

MATSUDA

Matsuda is just chilling dawg. When he sees you he is a bit flustered, he can’t lie. But he doesn’t mind it, he almost embraces it. Your whole vibe attracted him from the beginning and that was surprising because he usually wouldn’t go for punk people (he hadn’t even seen many in general if at all)

He does get the courage to ask you out after staring at you for lord knows how long, and he’s almost embarrassed at how you just smile so sweetly at him. He totally misjudged your character. Even if it wasn’t on purpose he did subconsciously think you would have a more dominant personality, but that part only truly came out when talking about what you stood for as a punk black individual. Which you did quite often.

Listen- he doesn’t mean to but when you talk about that stuff all he can think about is how attractive you are. Your face, your outfits, your stature itself was so inviting. So he DOES just start kissing you and hugging you- what about it? Not like you mind, in fact you invite it everytime, but it is kind of weird how everytime it happens this is always how it ends.

When you start bringing up trying to introduce him to what it is that you are, it isn’t to convert him but he doesn’t seem to understand that. So be bites his lip and proceeds to say,

“Ah...sorry but um..I don’t think I am fit for that- not that it isn’t cool! You’re very cool and hot and I enjoy you a lot but...I don’t think it’s for me.” He stutters with a clear blush on his cheeks and you have to laugh.

“I just wanted to show you Suda I promise.” You say and he quickly relaxes his shoulders from their hunched up position.

Matsuda is not made for punk music and it’s almost funny. He tried it- he really did. He sat there and listened for an hour but he just couldn’t get into it the way you did, and it was something you expected but that didn’t mean it wasn’t any less cute to watch him try and pretend he enjoyed it with his awkward headbops.

When you talk about politics or the current state of the world and your views it’s very little that he shares his opinions because he cannot seem to want to. I mean there you are- pouring your heart and soul into this topic- especially highlighting how frustrating it is that there is barely any black-punk rep in te media, and he give you a two sentence “I agree” response. It is never happening again is what he vowed and he kept that promise.

All in all, he loves you. He loves your appearence, the way you hold yourself, your intellence, your music, everything. How could he not? There’s no question that no matter what you tell him, he’ll listen with heart eyes and remember it 10 years later, he loves you all the much.

The chilly breeze passed through Marinette's soul as she exits the high-end building. "What a load of crap." She bitterly thought, walking to the curb.

Looking down the street, she waits for a yellow taxi to come around. Holding her hand out, she waits for one of them pull up beside her.

Entering the taxi cab, she automatically says her destination and unknowingly switches to her native tongue. French. Marinette continues to openly rant about her experience at the newest restaurant that opened and recently reviewed for exceptional service.

"Il peut brûler en enfer pour tous mes soucis!" The driver swerves, distracted by the tiny women that brought so much fury with her.

"Whoa!" At the sudden turn, Marinette braces herself on the door. The lamppost blinds her momentarily before she looks at the driver and the road in front of them. "Careful, you could have gotten hurt!" Marinette's anger boils and simmers away, replaced with the fresh cool water of worry and awareness of her surroundings.

"Thanks for the concern, but you sure you don't need it instead?" Asking in English, but understanding her anger about the place she exited. "Don't worry too much about that place, or the others on this street. High-end only bring other people down."

Marinette hums and sits back in her seats, relaxing along the smooth unwinding roads ahead of them. "I'm not too worried, but the experience was terrible."

The man driving her chuckles at her impression of the 'untouchable' higher-ups. Marinette hums in thought. Looking at him in the rear-view mirror, he shivers at her small smile. "Well, I wouldn't say that."

"Right." The man coughs and he looks back on the road, often glancing in the overhang mirror. "If you keep looking back here, you'll miss the road in front of you." Marinette didn't need to look up to know he was staring at her.

Her black and red dress showed off her curves and legs, but she knew that wasn't why he was looking at her. She looked at him, obviously plagued by question after question.

Might as well get them out of the way.

"If you must know, I was eating alone and the waiters took it upon themselves to keep bothering me and 'cheering me up' about 'how it's their loss'." Marinette cuddles herself lovingly and squeezes gently before unwrapping herself.

"I wasn't waiting for anybody, if they just looked at the reservation they would know that it would be under my name and my driver's license," Marinette grumble, already feeling the anger seeping through her calm demeanor.

"If only I could attrape-les par les couilles!" Making a ripping motion with her hands. Ge quickly understood her question and groaned at the implication and covered his groin in pain.

"Any more questions?" Her voice accidentally turning sickeningly sweet. The man vigorously shook his head and stared at the road.

The drive couldn't end sooner after that. The awkwardness from Marinette, combined with the newfound fear from the driver made the air tense.

Silence took over them for the rest of the ride. Marinette overpays the taxi driver by a large margin. 200 dollars more then it should be. "Keep the change. Thanks for listening."

Marinette winks and struts off to her workplace. A high-end restaurant. It's her 2nd job of the week. Part-time besides her time in the boutique and since it's a 'french cuisine' establishment.

She made the perfect requirement.

How quaint.

America really needed to step up its hiring process.

Regardless, the only thing she needed to do was waiter tables and take orders. Easy when she could dupe them with the simplest of french swears.

Customer service really was the worst if people didn't have the patience, and if they pulled their head out of their asses and learned to converse like normal humans.

Hi i just now saw the post about not hitting your children and would like to ask what would you recommend to parents of children that misbehave as an alternative to beating? Like im not arguing, this is a serious question because a lot of parents i know argue that in some cases you have to use violence or kids wont listen to you and misbehave even more so what do tou think is the best parenting method? Thanks!

this is...a big question. the response will likely be a Rant. this Rant is not directed at you, polite question-asker, but at the general situation which prompts your query.

the most important thing to know is that parents who make that argument are demonstrably, categorically wrong. decades of studies show that children who are hit as a method of “discipline” have more behavior problems. they have more conflict with parents. they are more likely to get in trouble at school and with the law. this frankly should not be a surprise, because it should be common sense that being hit by people who are supposed to care for you fucks you up.

I feel like safety and obedience get conflated a lot when this topic comes up so I need to make a digression to deal with that. parents are like, “but if I’m not allowed to touch my child without consent I’d have to let her run into traffic!” like, buddy, pal, no. you need consent to touch your partner, but if they’re about to be run over by a truck you fucking grab them and pull them out of the street. it’s no one’s problem but yours if you can’t apply the same logic to your child. also: if your kid is doing something unsafe maybe attempt to calm the situation instead of adding physical violence to it. what’s the logic there? do parents think kids are going to go, “hey, this person just hit me, I should totally stay right next to them because I feel safe there now”?

back on the point of “misbehaving”: adults are shockingly eager to characterize children as “misbehaving” in some way. the dominant ideology governing child-parent relationships in modern society says that anything short of total obedience and submissiveness is worthy of punishment. being upset is “making a scene”. disagreeing is “talking back”. it’s ludicrous. if we judged children by the same standards we judge adults by - ie, basically that what you’re doing is wrong if it harms someone else, instead of just if it happens to not be exactly what another person wants from you right now - the frequency with which we’d need to think about punishment would drop by orders of magnitude.

but it wouldn’t go away completely because, like, humans do hurt each other; they do selfish things, they make mistakes, they get angry and lash out, and all of these things happen more often (though usually with less severity) when you’re still learning about how to manage feelings and how to be part of society. when stuff like that happens, I think parents just need to remember they’re basically filling the role of the entire justice and counselling systems for their kids, and when you have that kind of power you need to be careful and responsible with it. and you need to keep a lot of the same things in mind that we keep in mind when the police and courts and prisons and therapists and social workers are dealing with adults convicted of crimes. presume innocence. avoid prejudice. listen. no cruel or unusual punishment. maintain safety. focus on helping the person do better in the future instead of on making them suffer for their transgressions.

often talking through what happened and why it’s a problem is the way to go. sometimes a more serious situation might demand something that looks like a “time-out” (though I hate the term) or loss of an actual privilege (by that I mean, like, a special visit to the zoo;  a lot of parents don’t seem to realize what “privilege” means and think it includes things that are literally human rights by federal and international law, like being allowed to leave your bedroom and talk to friends).

a lot of times though, just letting natural consequences play out works best. (there’s a whole parenting movement about this and while I don’t agree with all of it I think they have some good points.) “you pushed Kevin over and he hurt his head? well, he doesn’t want to play anymore and you lost out on a fun day out with your friend. now you’ve learned something about social consequences and the importance of being nice.” much more useful than, “oh, you pushed Kevin so now I’m going to hit you to demonstrate why...um...violence is wrong.”
