Hi Bingo! I just wanted to say that I've been lurking and looking at your art for your lancer campaign for a while now and I think it's so cool! You've kinda inspired me to check out the system for myself too! I hope it's not too much trouble/making you retread anything you've talked about before, but I'd be really interested to hear your thoughts on the system and how it's worked out for your campaign! I really love mecha stuff, but I think the genre can be pretty rife with militarism that I'm not super into. I get the sense though that you've been able to find a good way to slot these really cool characters into the setting and focus on their interactions while also getting the fun of that sweet sweet mech combat. My inquiry is very low stakes haha, so nw if you don't have time to gather all your thoughts (I know that if I was tasked to talk about my own campaigns my head would burst into flames just trying to sift through what I'd want to say :P) Anyway, just a little friendly wave to you to say your art is very inspirational, and keep up the great work!

OH WOW this is . whuhh. WOW! sorry im like. wtff. i mean i ramble about my characters a lot but i didn't think anyone else actually gave a fuck which is completely ok, i just WHUHH..!!! holy shit. excitement aside, i get where you're coming from. honestly i was never into the mecha genre, but lancer rpg really made me realize how cool it is! like im not a really technical guy, and i feel like lancer is VERY strategy-heavy in combat; unless you know what you're doing and what everything does, you can easily get overwhelmed with all the features and all the things to consider in the math. for me its a lot because i struggle with spatial understanding and any sort of mathematics. that's my only real gripe on the system, but that might also just be every other system as well. it's more of a personal issue than that of the system, my friends all picked it up super quick. as for the genre, yeah, i find militaristic shit a drag and mecha has the same feel to me. its got a layer of professionalism and seriousness i don't enjoy, nor wish to play along with, so i get what you mean yeah. thankfully my friend who dms the campaign is just. Holy fuck; she just has a huuuge extra care for character stories and weaving them into the narrative she explores. so really, its her i've to thank for making mecha stuff FUN for me. lancer can certainly run hand-in-hand with militaristic-focused rp, i was in a oneshot with that sole focus and while it was interesting, without that interesting narrative stuff you kind of lose steam, but ive grown so fond of dog days cuz of how my friend lets our characters develop AND helps them do that. that and the way she sets up the story, just. FUUUUCK. the military is an afterthought in what is a fight against time and para-causality sinking its teeth into what little sanity we have. we fight against something that is a victim and a perpetrator. we're the worst people to be tasked to be saving an entire planet too, but here we are. as cheesy as it is, it's all about who you play with. thats the feel i get about most systems. honestly why im so ehhh about playing with strangers, when i'd rather play with people i like. all systems strike me as more of a tool; its the way you use em yk? the experience you get from them are more reflective of who you're telling a story with (or fighting alongside, there's no right way to play. i just really like narrative storytelling). so really, ive to thank my friends, especially @spaginithethird who introduced me to lancer in the first place as a dm!!!!!!!!!! TO A LOT OF SYSTEMS ACTUALLY shes rlly knowledgeable abt this stuff and very very very sweet too o7 so yeah really, its a really fun system BUT to me, i wouldnt be playing lancer if i didn't have a narrative to go by and follow with people i like. i am always sayin this but its my favorite thing when it comes to ttrpgs

Sorry I left this in my inbox for a bit. Honestly, I really struggle with top anything media, because I hop to one thing from another pretty fast. Even things I really enjoyed lately I wouldn't say would be top of all time, you know? It's much easier for me to do a top 5/10 of something specific. (I could do a top 5 80s horror easily, lmao)

But here's a few:

1.) The end kiss from the Princess Bride.

Hey, the narration says it all: since the invention of the kiss, there have been five that are deemed the most beautiful, the most pure, and this one blew them all away.

2.) The apartment scene from The Crow (1991). It's a quiet and sensitive moment of Eric mourning Shelly and you see the man behind the persona. (I like it so much I've cross-stitched it!) Underlined by Eric saying "I thought I'd use the front door" (to leave, instead of disappearing) in that defeated way - it's a short scene that shows how much grief he's carrying.

3.) The plot twist in Saw (2004)

I'm not including a gif or talking about it because if you don't know the twist, it's such a good reveal. Tbh anytime the Hello Zepp theme plays I get very excited, though the quality of twists vary hugely. (I wouldn't say the end of Saw X was a twist, but very fun to watch!)

4.) "We saw Tri-pods wading up the Thames, cutting through bridges as though they were paper. Waterloo bridge, Westminster bridge - one appeared above Big Ben."

From War of the Worlds (The Jeff Wayne musical version but the book too). Gives me goosebumps every time! The Definitive Alien Invasion story, with just the poignant imagery.

5.) David finds the Blue Fairy from A.I: Artifical Intelligence (2001)

Major Spoilers! David is a robot, given to a family who's son is in a coma. When the son wakes, he tells David he's not a real boy. Taking the story of Pinocchio literally, David tries to find the Blue Fairy, who'll turn him into a real boy (and then his parents will truly accept him.)

Only...the Blue Fairy is a statue...

The pathos. The dramatic irony. Haley Joel Osment acting his heart out. This scene had me inconsolable.

So in the hellaverse it seems like hell is still supposed to be a ‘punishment’ for sinners, but it doesn’t really seem that way with how the Overlords work and whatnot (especially with Valentino- geez that man needs a beating). I wouldn’t mind if it was stated in the show to be not true and just something humans made up, but it’s obvious that isn’t the case.

It seems like it’s really only a hell for the people who fall for smaller crimes, so would you keep this aspect in your version? I wouldn’t

Yeah I don't fully get how Overlords work within the Hazbin universe either hence why I kinda made them less powerful that they seem in the show. Like, they can make deals with other sinners for their souls? How? How do they have that power? How did they get that power? Why do they have more than the fucking king of hell himself?

I did answer the 'punishment' question in the past where it depends on each ring but Pride doesn't punish anyone because Lucifer doesn't want to. Not in the "I don't want to hurt anyone" sort of way more than a "fuck you, dad!" way where he's acting like a rebellious teenager and refusing to play jailer/continuing to defy God (yes I know God isn't a thing in Hazbin for some reason but sssh). Plus his dislike for humans/sinners also is him just like 'nah I'm keeping my distance'. So, the reason why Overlords are so powerful in Pride is basically the lack of order or 'punishment'. Yes they're in Greed and Sloth too but no where as powerful as they would be in Pride and if they do feel as if they're starting to become a threat/a 'risk' to Hellborns in that ring, the Sin of that ring makes sure to shut that shit down.

It's called 'the wild west of hell' for reason and those who landed themselves into other rings that aren't as 'kind' to sinners attempt to smuggle themselves into Pride with vary success. I have Valentino originally landing in the Lust ring but managed to escape but that wasn't an easy feat neither due to well...It's Valentino and being I did keep Ozzie's dislike of use of force in this AU...

Let's just say he ain't gonna have a fun time in the future if he's ever dragged back to Lust. I'll leave it at that.

Overlords are basically powerful gang/business leaders in this AU. (I'd use the term 'organized crime' in some cases, but that'd imply there's a law enforcement in hell which there really isn't in the traditional sense but I'll save that for another time being I got a lot of notes on rules and laws in Hell and likely will make a detailed post when I feel like I'm ready to do so) They don't have that 'deal with the devil contract' thing (with the expectation of Alastor maybe. Maybe) going but may have a version of it but this is something as i'm still fleshing things out and haven't thought much about this until Hazbin itself dropped. Again, I'll likely talk about Overlords in-depth at a later date once I feel I have a solid foundation on how I'm gonna handle them.

So not really keeping it as is. It's kinda of 'Life is what you make of it' sort of deal and depending on your sin(s) and/or where you land in Hell, you can survive okay. Yeah, life is gonna be shitty regardless, but you're stuck here here so might as well make the best of it. I'm likely gonna change and expand on things as I go being with every new bite of content coming out of Hazbin and Helluva Boss (though I gave up on that show being Viv rather write her Wattpad Yaoi fanfiction suppose to giving us a fun show about a bunch of demon assassins but may still adapt something from new episodes even if I don't plan on watching them anymore) gives me something new to play with if I don't scrap it entirely, and trust me: Hazbin has been giving me a sandbox of shit to play with.

I imagine she'd get along pretty well with Gooey post-DL3. Aside from her, I imagine she'd get along really well with Meta Knight and Bandana since she also has that fighting spirit in her and her weapon of choice is a spear.

🩷 (Pink Heart) - If they were a Dream Friend, what would their moveset be like? How much HP do they have? Would they be a strong attacker, or would they take on more of a support role?

I imagine she'd borrow a bit from the Spear moveset, but with some kind of dark twist to it. I also imagine she'd share similar abilities to her brothers being a Dark Matter except for the eye lasar, since her eye doesn't really work.

She'd be an attacker for sure.

🍅 (Tomato) - If Kirby absorbed them or their attacks, what Copy Ability [or Abilities] would he get? Alternatively, if they themselves are capable of using the Copy Ability, do they have a favourite?

Definitely Spear. I'm not sure if Dark Matter CAN give copy abilities to Kirby though.

🪐 (Saturn) - What planet are they from? Is it in Gamble Galaxy, Another Dimension, the Mirror World, the New World, or somewhere else? Where do they live now?

She used to live on Dark Star with the rest of her colony (including Gooey and Blade). After DL3 though she's settled with living on Popstar.

🦋 (Butterfly) - Does your OC ‘fear the reaper’, so to speak? If they fused with Morpho Knight, what sort of form would they take on?

Mystery has been through so much shit that she doesn't really care. I already imagine Morpho could take on the form of a Dark Matter if it wanted to, but I think a fusion between it and Mystery would be interesting.

bloodborne questions time: in your mind what kept laurence going? why did he keep trying to administer the old blood to the public, even after he knew of its consequences? misguided compassion? sunk cost fallacy?? simply not giving a fuck??? good ol fashioned god complex???? something else entirely?????

everyone has a unique answer to this type of thing and its fascinating :)

OOOH this is a tough one! There are so many incredibly compelling answers to "why did Laurence do the things he did" and it's left beautifully unanswered in game. Personally, I like the interpretation that it's a little bit of all those things- a smorgasbord of compounding issues.

I think it's pretty safe to say that his intentions were originally 'good'. For all the Healing Church does horribly wrong it does provide safe, affordable medical care in an era where death and disease were a constant looming threat. Laurence originally wanting to give something good back to Yharnam and genuinely help just makes everything else that little more tragic IMO. Particularly if he knew about the Beast Side Effects (tm) but thought that medicinal care was more important or that he'd find a cure before it got too bad.

That said he's not innocent at all. From what we know the Research Hall was pretty early in the Chruch's life (or at least when it was at its height) and I wouldn't call anything in there virtuous. He can have good intentions and do awful things with them. The same thing applies to the Church's pushing of xenophobia towards Cainhurst. Like I personally read it as a strategic move on Laurence's part but the intentions behind bigotry don't fix the bigotry (specially cus it was the 'justification' the Church used for actual genocide!!!)

That said, I've talked about the value (or lack thereof) that Laurence places on human life before. He seems to care for people but levies this ultimate goal of ascension as much more important. This is something it seems like all the other Byrgenwerth Scholars share: be it Master Willem's influence, the kind of people that get accepted into the college, or just something in the water giving them delusions of grandeur. I can see this view, and Laurence's deliberate placing of himself as a religious leader in Yharnam, as developing into some sort of complex yeah. The "they don't know what's best for them. I'm enlightened to the truth! They may think me cruel now but when humanity ascends its flesh prison into the cosmos, then they'll understand" kinda thing.

Going on from that, all of Laurence's friends die or leave him and he eventually starts losing his memories. The translated lyrics to his theme imply a reluctance towards the blood at a certain point and I can see that being exasperated by the Burning of Old Yharnam or the Creation of the Dream or some other awful situation he put himself in. But at this point, he's been masquerading dictator for going on 2 decades and he can't just... dismantle his doctrine. That's where the sunk costs come in. He just has to double down. I can ABSOLUTELY see him becoming even more tyrannical in the last few years of his life.

Anyway, I see Laurence's motives as in a constant shift and change in reaction to his current standing. He's continually trying to justify something he knows is deeply harmful to both himself and others and it fucks with him.

it could be interesting for jiu to ask qinghua if his friend is particularly touchy about anything? in his typical way of asking anything where he acts as if hes just insulting anyone to get them to talk rather than "hey is he mad at me". get some silence translator in here. or possibly mobei leaves a note thats like 'cant talk rn sorry' but wont elaborate because telling people youre too traumatised to speak rn is cringe (not true but yknow). or mobei could say hi via musical flourish?

I'm open to ideas on this one bc while I had a period when I had a similar struggle (for the first three years of elemental school I was bullied and beaten by the older kids a lot) it got better when my situation got better and I compartmentalized the whole thing away so I don't really remember it anymore.

What I really need to consider is how the characters are going to act and how it will affect the flow of the story. Like, the chapter is supposed to be the lead-up to SQQ finally breaking down and confiding in MBJ about how the situation with Qi-ge is hurting him (not in those words, but that's the gist). So he's feeling stressed out bc he has to interact with YQY a lot more than usual (they are finally fixing the issue of YQY being overworked af and have to basically rebuild Qiong Ding Peak to do it) and 'losing' his safe space temporarily (he hears SQH and MBJ play together one time he goes there and then avoids the garden for a while).

So feeling like his friend has abandoned him might be too much. Push him too far so he won't even try to come back. Definitely wouldn't get over it enough to tell MBJ about YQY. And I'm not sure he has the emotional bandwidth at the time to parse the situation and handle it even if MBJ makes an effort to communicate that he's there.

Like, can I imagine SJ playing yes-no questions with MBJ to get a handle on why the demon can't talk? Sure. But not in the headspace he is in for the rest of the chapter. Hell, he'd probably bolt before MBJ can get over his instinct to withdraw when his vulnerable and try to explain what's going on.

So it might be better to keep this for a post-reveal scenario and go with the other scene I was considering for the chapter.

OK SO. AHGHHHHHHHHHHH THERE'S THIS ONE DETAIL THAT I STILL HARP ON TO THIS DAY. i rewatched the movie like 40 times during the quarantine and i have the dvds and stuff and so i got bored one time and was all. Hey why not make an edit. so i did! one thing i did not notice until after the edit, wright is so fucking. HROW. i swear to god his visuals and cinematography are EVERYTHING to me but in the train scene.. ohhggh.. at this point we already know nicholas is completely disconnected from everything that isnt his job, he's. well. isolated. particularly cuz his fiance just left him (through no fault of her own, nicholas and her just didn't really compromise. it didnt work...) and also all of his coworkers hate him.. so this visual, nicholas in the middle with his lily, surrounded by four distinct couples. this is a romance movie... this was a rom com. really emphasized that hes fucking alone and frankly miserable because he has no idea how to connect to people. its like... show dont tell to a perfect fucking degree. you SEE it. this guy is fucking alone.

danny hes sooo in love with you hes using your slangs and mimicking your behavior. i think he's autistic im pretty sure he is, i very much like nicholas as a character and how he seemingly comes off as uncaring but he REALLY does. its just not as obvious, and danny took the time to see him when no one else would and that really does a lot to my brain.
