Something so important to me about Kabru is the way so many of his experiences with humans parallel Laios', and yet they ended up with exact opposite feelings about them. Laios loves monsters, Kabru hates them. Laios wished he was a monster (so he wouldn't have to deal with people who hated him), Kabru grew up believing he already was one (his father being an incubus would explain why people hated him). Laios is aware that people tend not to like him, so he's given up on trying to endear himself to them. Kabru is aware he doesn't fit in anywhere he goes, and is desperate to trick people into thinking otherwise. When Laios was a kid he would fantasise about the exact type of event that ruined Kabru's life.
Laios loves monsters, and he excells at killing them. Kabru is exactly the same for people, despite having every opportunity to choose to hate them instead.

god fleki is one of my all time favourite characters ever-
like there’s just something about her! the fact she canonically does drugs to escape reality, literally shows overall signs of hating being an elf and how she is now- just like lycion she deals with a form of dysmorphia. its pretty evident she wishes she actually were a bird, but it’s so much more subtle. either way, she just deals with the same thing a lot of ppl who feel different do.. not wanting to be yourself in this world.
seeing a depiction of the drug addict ND person who hates reality in a manga series about dungeons and food is so amazing and such a fun detail! she’s heavily adhd coded as well.
i just love fleki so much!! she’s genuinely someone i’d definitely be friends with irl/relate to so much. like, i know this person. this is someone i’ve been friends with irl and have also just seen walking down the street.
also she canonically has freckles and i’ll never forgive elf genes for taking that away from us!
little baby pookie boo!!

One thing I adore about the dungeon meshi kelpie arc is how it delineates the difference between “trained” and “tame” SO WELL. Anne the kelpie was nice around senshi, because he fed her and was always respectful. She was trained to not attack him, effectively. But she’s still a monster/wild animal, so the moment he showed “weakness” by trying to ride her, her instincts kicked in and she attacked. And. You’d think Laois, the resident animal lover, would be upset about having to kill a seemingly tame monster. But he suggests it first. He’s not just an animal lover, he’s a biology nerd, SO HE KNOWS ITS UNSAFE TO BE SO BUDDY BUDDY WITH A CARNIVOROUS WILD ANIMAL!
