NGL despite doodling the love square is already outdated in my brain but the doodles are still cute so i'm posting it anyways. 2nd comic still stands true for now bc theres something about being dismissive of the one's own abilities while being ur besties hypeman and also 14yo's canon events in fandom discourse over their bias has to happen. It's still all jumbled in the brain but since this follows through from b4 they both become heroes i like thinking about how the process of being a hero bleeds into their civilian life. Marinette definitely is trying to grow out of her shell but struggles greatly with the anxiety/being bullied and communication. The longer she is Ladybug, the more confident she becomes but the more she fears returning who she used to be. I think control/the lack of it becomes a major issue for her.

In comparison with Felix whose been homeschooled this whole time with high and strict expectations, becoming Chat Noir is a release of all of his responsibilities and who he is. While it is freeing, that fear of losing his safe space and best friend becomes more and more pressing especially as the stakes start getting higher.

They both have attachment issues so (gestures vaguely) ladynoir is sloooooooowburn. They are 2 weirdgirls who are finally able to be cringe, but free and even if it was a little off from the start. It's like both of their first times really being able to bond with someone else without any pretense of who they "are". Felinette starts off, not necessarily antagonistic but strained from clashing personalities and communication issues (marinette special). As they grow more into themselves and learn more about one another, i like to think it becomes a silly rivalry.

Felady is rough for felix bc that's his best friend and he cant say anything bc even if he can admit being a fan, it still has to be within the limitation of "himself". Ladybug, however, enjoys teasing that part out of him. Marichat is closer to canon (from what i know) but a little in reverse? Marinette is honest, but not Ladybug honest, to Chat Noir so it's a different perspective of marinette he get's to see, more passion less flustered or smthn like that

you guuuuyysssssss you know Im really bad at general summary posts.... but uhmrmrmmm I think I talk about it a little bit in this post here. basically I turn the vague energy of an anticapitalist narrative that kalos had into. very loud bright blaring alarms ^_^

also because I dont think Ive actually posted about the main cast in clear detail (I. told people about them in dms and forgot to make most of it public info LOOOOL sorry guys) heres some basic summaries of them

serena: unsettling weirdgirl supreme who is extremely fixated on the idea of death and its inevitability. over the course of her maingame arc she learns that living is Also a thing that she can do and she is not born to die :) she does kind of die a little though(?) (its complicated) but thats besides the point

shauna: energetic and cheery, was hospitalized for a good chunk of her childhood so now she feels 'behind' everyone else, which manifests in a very intense fomo because she haaaas to catch up to the others asap or else she'll fall even more behind!! over the course of her arc she learns that slowing down is fine and its ok to be ""behind"" everyone else because life isnt meant to be a race

trevor: the typical 'nerd' archetype, super concerned about his future (specifically future career prospects) to the point where he overworks himself constantly. over the course of his arc learns to.. well. Not do that

tierno: super duper kind and compassionate, the groups Therapy Friend(tm) who put everyone else above himself because he viewed himself as an inconvenience to others. this caused him to throw away his own passions but over the course of his arc he gets some better self-esteem and boundaries and starts to pursue them again

calem: spoiled, sheltered, snobby rich kid without any good guidance from adults in their life pretending that they know what theyre doing with their life (they dont). over the course of their arc they get over themselves and drop the 'superior to you' attitude so they can Actually get a feel for living for themselves

samantha samantha my samantha <33 i could talk a LOT about samantha in my au. canonically, her main character trait is like... high intelligence, low wisdom, and thats about it. which usually is very sad, but for me specifically is great because it means i go crazystupid with her. i will try to be brief but HKFGDJHFJKD gonna preemptively assume this will have to go under a cut anyways tho, because i love to ramble !

as stated, samantha's main character traits in canon are like. ron's hot moron4moron wife, will fall for a nigerian prince scam, is very straightforward but kind. which is absolutely fantastic and i love her more than anything, but i needed more than that. so i made her god's favorite weirdgirl <3

samantha's class is a life domain cleric! i need to work out the exact details still (i think maybe something to do with samantha's jewelery since i always draw her with a very specific biiig golden necklace), but when she was transported to the forgotten realms, she was chosen by a low ranking goddess to receive her gifts of healing. i think she fits well to be the healer (though mercedes knows some low level bard heals as well), it fits her kindly therapist vibes. i did also, unfortunately, made her a "i could fix him (absolutely cannot)" girlie because you just gotta be honest. its so real for her. which i think also fits for a healer LMAO so shes the partys healer! you may be saying "hey, travis, arent clerics supposed to have high wisdom? didnt you say samantha is high intelligence, low wisdom?" and yes. they do. she is. this is a dungeons and daddies au. theyre not meant to be good at their jobs. in general, samantha is the optimist of the group - shes cheerful bordering on (and often crossing over into) full on ditzy, shes the 'people person' of the group so she is usually the one who is sent to sweet talk people along with mercedes, and shes just. everyones sunshine. shes level-headed, sweet, and a total doggirl. mercedes and morgan both call her "sammy" near exclusively, which i know could be heresy against the ronnie/sammy special nicknames headcanon, but i cannot help it. shes just a sammy to me.

shes also very very very convinced that she is the leader of their little group, but carol is convinced that she is the leader of their little group, and the two of them bicker about it constantly. theyre very in love but if samantha cant passively aggressively tell carol that actually, samantha was the one who got them out of the last kerfuffle no thanks to you, she will self-implode.

because of her therapist position, i wanted samantha to come off as a character that seems very put together, emotionally intelligent, and normal when you first meet her. however, as time goes on, you realize she is actually very silly and not... great... at emotions when it comes to herself. its kind of a fun opposite to her dear ronnie! plot-wise, shes on this roadtrip as a bonding exercise with her son, who she loves very dearly <3 they used to be extremely close, but ever since the death of her ex-husband, her and terry junior have struggled to see eye to eye. the main issue here is that she tends to go 'therapist mode' with her personal issues - she thinks she has to put terry's feelings first, so she only asks him how hes doing, how hes feeling, how can she help etc without ever showing her own feelings on the matter. in samantha's head, shes being a good mother by not putting her feelings onto her son. in terry junior's head, samantha is pretending that terry senior never existed in the first place. so samantha's character arc actually resembles darryl's in a lot of ways, where she has to learn to be emotionally vulnerable with her son!

i couLD SAY EVEN MORE THAN THAT BUT THIS IS ALREADY VERY LONG i have many sammy thoughts. shes my dear darling golden retriever girlfriend except actually i think she would be a chocolate lab because they are known for being friendly, affectionate, extremely playful-

What about Terezi thoughts?

the thing with terezi, for me, is that she is quite possibly the only character to rival the level of unease and distrust i have for interpretations as i do with gamzee, in all the opposite ways. she was really important to me in the early days, because for all of the gripe i have about how it was ultimately handled, her story was always about her own guilt and attempts to reconstruct her own worldview because of that guilt, struggling with her own inability to justify herself because in ways she understands her own behaviors are rooted not in reality but in a position and expectation and place of power which she was born into. its so hard to talk about her, and really i feel like i am even more willing to go into the vriska stuff than i am the terezi stuff because as much as vriska conversations are complicated by the fandoms past (on either side of that debate) there is just an even more intense air of refusal to engage with terezis character assassination than anybody else....... which i guess makes sense, shes one of if not arguably the most frontal character, shes beloved weirdgirl, (mostly) unapologetic in her convictions. all i guess admirable traits if you are not like..... from my specific sphere of homestuck fans who have been worn down for all of those reasons. and yknow, a lot of vriska fans will disregard my opinions as inherently unserious and bad faith upon realization i like the clown, which sucks, but its mostly the terezi circles that have treated me like im personally committing some kind of violence by trying to discuss gamzees agency and the problems i have surrounding. what the comic did to these two together.

i guess that isnt really all that much About terezi but really i do think i have said most of the sweeping things i have to say about her as an actual character before. we are given this character who clearly does not have much awareness for the systems which lead her to her worldview, has little to no interest in being actually Fair (i mean come on even for the mess homestuck is her introductory interests in justice and murderstuck investigations are Meant to be read as her being clueless and on board with alternias laughably unjust judicial system. thats textual!) until she and people she knows are hurt by the actions shes up to then encouraged and taken part in. and that itself isnt an issue it is a pretty fascinating position for a child whos then being placed(/placing herself) into a role of an arbiter amongst an increasingly unstable group of isolated children, all of whom including her are very much products of the social conditions which they have been raised. the problem is that any real attempts to reckon with this stuff got shoved aside in preference of a shoehorned narrative about abuse that, if you were around and in the right places at the time, you KNOW how bad faith that shit was from inception. all of the interest in her guilt and insecurity about her own ability to think beyond that instinct that has been instilled into her that hinged on her own decisions and regrets are instead reconstructed to be all about shitting all over the plot device character who already didnt get to Be somebody, and was the subject of so so so many harassment campaigns that we know damn well hussie and the people working with him at the time were well aware of. to me the only way you can see any of that as a genuine attempt to touch on toxic relationships or domestic abuse are if you had no idea what kind of shit he (and the fans turned friends turned contributors) was doing, actively, at the time and it doesnt help that in releasing psycholonials he kind of just got to rewrite the narrative about how the fandom vitriol was spreading (and his extremely direct hand in that) or what was actually being said a lot of the time at all.

and like, yes i have an inherent distrust of people who arent going to examine all of the biases that go into presenting the character who is an amalgamation of all of hussies terrible biases wrt blackness and mental illness and addiction as the only of the kids who is somehow not just as much a victim of the antagonism of the narrative they exist within (while literally working under the child abuse demon!!!! i will say it again i will say it forever), duh, we know this, but i dont think you have to like or sympathize with gamzee to admit that shit was contrived and BAD. it isnt that strong, smart characters, especially girls, can never get abused or manipulated, or whateverrrr, but the second the story decides to reveal this detail is the start of a refusal to engage terezi as the intelligent and hyper-competent character we were initially presented with. her dialogue for literally the rest of the comic from that point on is a hollow, horrifying ghost of what she was before, any attempts to write her as unaware due to her emotional state more often just come across as a caricature of an emotional woman and the fact that it literally gets so bad that people were analyzing that shit at the time wondering if she wasnt also literally being psychically manipulated or barred from information in the same ways is, to me, proof enough of that. homestucks got this very very potent kind of misogyny going on with certain characters where they are allowed to be smart, often smarter than any of the men in the room, but not smart enough that theyre actually allowed to be right, and if they are right its usually as a result of the universe kind of.... dropping the info into their lap, moreso than deducing shit. and part of that is for sure i think that hussie is just better at telling than showing, but if you have READ any of their past works you also know that the idea of women being just generally stupider and flatter and lesser agents in their own stories is something he has always kind of had an issue with. im tired of stepping around it, im tired of stepping around the cop character having an investment in lynching imagery and then getting to be victimized by the manifesations of hussies discomfort and perception of black men! and being told im crazy by people who didnt have insight into how insidious so much of this all was at the time it was happening!!!! tired of not letting her BE flawed because people would rather avoid all of the discomfortttt. aaaand ok this is where im cutting it

in the masses' defense!! i understand where a lot of grant takes come from. hes been a bad father, he has a lot of improvements he has to make, and i think its really cool that matt is doing a plot line rn where linc is cutting his dad off. thats awesome! like, genuinely, i love it. it hurts my feelings a lot as a Wilson Enjoyer(tm) but i think it makes so much sense story-wise and im really enjoying seeing where the plot is going with it!

however i just think its really fucking weird of some fans to imply that mentally ill people arent allowed to have kids or try to love other people when they dont love themselves! maybe im just projecting though </3 i like to think that most people are just wording their takes poorly, or that theyre being dramatic, and i can recognize that i can be really overly sensitive about characters with intrusive thoughts/low emotions. i project onto them too much! i get it! but like, i dunno

i relate a lot to grant and while i dont want kids, i do crave connection with people despite my more... asocial aspects lol. i only recently have gotten to a point where i let myself have community instead of isolating myself for my constant intrusive thoughts, low emotions, lack of empathy, etc. so it just kind of sucks to have this turn in the story that have people acting as if grant is the worst for thinking that maybe he could love a son and have a family. definitely similar vibes to sparrow where people are like "he only had a kid for daddy magic!", which is a take i dislike for ALL of the kiddads but that i can start to understand-- but then also just genuinely, there are people seeming to say "you shouldnt have kids if youre mentally ill" which... no? no. like. i recognize the idea that you shouldnt have kids if you cant even take care of youself, but all evidence points to that grant was capable of having a kid when linc was adopted. linc was socialized well as a young kid, he had friends his age, he visited his grandparents, etc. it was only later that grant's mental health took a downturn again and i think thats fair when everything going on with the doodler/code purple was going on. by no means is grant a good dad. but i think its really harsh and verging on ableism to imply that his mental health makes him incapable of being a dad at any point in his life.

but i dunno!! thats just my thoughts!! lol <3
