#the REAL grumpy introvert is Destiny
void-tiger · 1 year
Text
The concept of prophetic visions and dreams in The Sandman universe is objectively hilarious when you realize it automatically involves Destiny, Dream, and Delirium, and Destiny being absolutely fed up with his younger siblings messing with his domain.
…which is probably why there are far more records of prophetic visions than prophetic dreams but the symbolism in visions is…incredibly trippy and often unsettling. But the earliest stories of either leans more in favor of prophetic dreams.
Dream doesn’t mess with his siblings domains lightly, and either asks permission, first, or has Lucienne keep a record of the tab owed to Destiny over this.
Delirium, however…
Yeah…she’s just that youngest sibling who messes with your stuff and as infuriated as you are with her it’s often as productive as shouting at a baby because she WILL cry and rip her hair out and never grasp why her actions upset you.
(so Dream gets the brunt of Destiny’s Ire. even when Desire Did It.)

I ship you with.....
Brian and Joe
Tumblr media
For Brian
I feel like you would meet Brian while in University.
You both were in most of the same classes together.
The only issue was that you were struggling in your AstroPhysics class.
You knew who you had to ask. He was the smartest in the class, and everyone asked him for help.
The only issue was that he would usually say no to those people. You had no idea why, but you need him, his help.
After class you stopped him outside the doorway, “ Brian, can I talk to you for a minute?” He was confused, you had never really spoken before, so why now?
“ What’s going on?”
“ I need your help with classes, I’m failing and you know Mrs.Smith, she refuses to be any help.”
Brian looked at you conflicted, “ Please. “ You begged, looking up at him.
“ Okay, alright.” he nodded and smiled.
And that was the beginning of long nights studying, and spending time together. Soon enough you became somewhat friends, going to see his Band every weekend and becoming friends with his mates.
He then asked you out the night before your final exam, admitting that he had felt something for you ever since, even before you had asked him for the help. He would take glances at you, looking upon your beauty. You didn’t know it until then but you had done the same.
Extras
Friends to Lovers exellence. I can just imagine you two having the cutest study dates in Uni and helping eachother all the time.
Cheating off of one another any chance you get.
Helping Roger with his homework all the time.
Staying up late and climbing onto the rooftop, talking about the stars and theories.
Brians nickname for you would 1000000% be “ Stardust” It would be at the beginning of every letter he wrote to you whilst on the road.
I could imagine you guys naming your kids after Greek Gods and Godesses. It would just be so ethreal.
Freddie loves you guys so much. He really belives that the two of you were made for one another.
Tumblr media
For Joe
Joe definitely wasn’t the smartest in the room, but he sure was talented.
You’re not sure why you took on the role, you had never acted in your life, nor was it something you dreamed of doing.
It was as simple as; “ Just for fun.”
It was a short, bullshitting about some fake “scientific history” of Galaxy, Atoms and Soulmates.
Aka the cheesiest shit in the universe. But you had the voice for it, the intimidation of pure excellence and genius seething off of your tongue as you howled the script across the room. It wasn’t realistic, nor was anything in it true. Soulmates were inplausible, nothing but a myth. You wanted so badly to yell out “ Who wrote this shit?” but continued on anyway.
After rehearsal, you began walking back to your dressing room. Only to slam into a tall body, almost knocking you off your feet. You looked up at the face that had owned the torso you’d just bumped into. His hair was fiery auburn, his eyes a beautiful hazel color, looking into you with question.
“Im- so sorry-“ You began to apologize.
“ Aren’t you the main actress? You did amazing!” Your heart panged at actress. It wasn’t something that you had wanted to do but for some reason when he had said it, it made everything in you flutter.
He helped you walk back to your dressing room, taking the extra things you had in your hand. “ So what do you do?” You asked, the two of you still walking down the long corrodors of the venue.
“ I’m the writer.” You couldn’t help but laugh, it seemed too good to be true. His smile faded and he stopped, “ What’s funny?” He asked.
“ Well its just- you know none of this is real right? Soulmates- The theory of atoms being so close at some point that when they were seperated it causes them to come back together?? It’s unlogical.”
He scoffed and smirked down at you, “ It’s not about if its logical. It a story of hope, of true love. The fact that someone was made for you and you were made for them. You really need to get your head out of what they teach you in school about the stars, because there is always something that we as a human race don’t know about. And you my friend, won’t know anything about love until it hits you in the face.”
Extras
After that whole fiasco with Joe in the hallway, you realized that he was right. Your entire life had been based around science for the longest of times. Concrete evidence. But when you had met Joe it was as if a fire had lightened itself inside of you.
You realized that magical things can happen in mysterious ways, ways that you would never be able to explain.
Teaching Joe about zodiac signs and astrology because he’s literally clueless.
Joe constantly relating everything to “ Star Wars”
“ So like in Star Wars when the force-“
“ No Joe.”
You started to practice magic and became super eclectic and though Joe would love that you had opened up to such a unique way of life he would be so confused all the time.
“Why is there-? Crystals on the windowsill?”
“ What are all these jars for????”
“ YoUrE gOnnA bUrn ThE HoUse DowN”
It was hilarious, and sometimes he would join in on whatever antics you would be doing, because in the end he loved you. He loved when you would give him a crystal as a present, telling him what power it possesses, he loved when you would ask him to grab the weirdest things from the grocery store, he loved that you finally believed that there was such thing as destiny. Because you, were his destiny above all else.
This was really bad, I’m so sorry. I hope you enjoyed it somewhat though!!

LET’S TALK ABOUT BOOKS (AGAIN)
previous posts: I | II | III
these are just my ku reads, not my library rentals or purchases; i’ll come back to those at another time.
___________________________________________
aj sherwood, jocelynn drake
scales n spells (series)
embers
this is the fifth and supposedly last book in the scales n spells series, an lgbtq+ romance series with lots of fantasy and adventure elements - in the form of dragons and mages - mixed in. embers focuses on our nonbinary protag, nikki (they/them), who was introduced in the previous book, and their pursuit of notoriously grumpy and introverted dragon, gunter.
highly enjoyed it.
there’s some talk of a spinoff series happening that focuses on the ice dragons as well.
eden finley
famous (series)
encore
the last book in the famous series, which tells the tale of fictitious boyband, eleven, and what happens to the members post-disbandment. this is another lgbtq+ romance series. the last book tells the story of blake, “the quiet one” turned action movie star as he tries to expand his acting repertoire by taking a role in a queer rom-com.
this was a fun way to wrap up the series.
brooke blaine, ella frank
dare to try (series)
dare you
dare me
in the first book, dare you, we’re reintroduced to bash vogel, a side character from brooke blaine’s south haven series, and kieran bailey, youngest bailey brother in ella frank’s confessions and prime time series. a chance meeting sets them in each other’s paths and kieran can’t get bash out of his mind. but bash is only in chicago for a short time. cue the dramatics.
these two, i’ve noticed, have a tendency to love writing straight-guy-turns stories. but it’s kind of cool that kieran doesn’t have the straight-guy-freakout. not really, anyway.
it’s an enjoyable series, and i’m looking forward to reading the conclusion later this month.
a.e. wasp
pros & cons (series)
pros & cons of vengeance
pros & cons of deception
pros & cons of desire
pros & cons of betrayal
pros & cons of obsession
the pros & cons series is cute, funny, action-adventure-y, and romantic. it’s got it all. professional con artist, charlie, brings together four other professional criminals and an FBI agent to perform some robin hood-esque tasks. after each task is completed, his blackmail file on one of the team members is destroyed.
while this does deal with some serious topics - e.g. political corruption, prostitution, queer homelessness - the overall tone manages to stay pretty lighthearted. wasp has a way with humor.
soulbonded (series)
buried desire
shattered destiny
alright, i am going to put on my critique hat, just a bit, for this series. the entire first book, while a fun adventure and good character background, is unnecessary and, i feel, misleading. the real plotline of the series doesn’t start until book two. i feel like all of the necessary background could have been shown in book two using strategic flashback scenes and summary segments. it would have given us what was relevant without taking us on a red herring adventure. because book one sets up the expectation that this series is about ghosts and the supernatural. book two completely does away with that and pulls in fantasy elements like the fae. i don’t know, it’s just confusing. not to mention book two ends on a cliffhanger and book three’s release date is as-of-yet unannounced. i feel like maybe this was one of wasp’s early works and maybe it’s just not as well-thought-out as her later pieces.
garrett leigh
skins (series)
dream
whisper
believe
crossroads
i read this originally because in leigh’s work, the sex coach, she had mentioned that the setting and side characters were all from the skins series, though it wasn’t necessary to know their stories to read the sex coach. however, i was curious.
dream tells the story of dylan and angelo, who meet during a night of raunchy, escapist fantasy at sex club, lovato’s. it’s coincidence that sets them on each other’s paths again.
whisper is all about physiotherapist harry and cornish horseman joe. harry rents a room from joe to write his book and in the process finds much more on joe’s struggling horse farm.
believe reintroduces harry’s brother, rhys, a thrillseeking flight paramedic. he meets jevon campbell, a play therapist who frequently leaves to work overseas in refugee camps.
crossroads returns to angelo and dylan’s relationship. with angelo’s illness worsening, dylan finds himself at a loss.
this series is all about heartwrenching stories. prepare to cry. prepare to be tested. but eventually you’ll get your mostly-HEAs.
blue boys (series)
bullet
bold
bones
blue boy is an independent gay porn studio in LA. each book focuses on a different actor, or in some cases, actors. it does have some darker themes, which are pretty self-evident upon reading the summaries, but overall these are just stories about coworkers falling in love, learning about themselves, and figuring out their futures.
lucky (series)
lucky
cash
jude
micah
lucky is about closeted footballer, dominic ramos, and wannabe-rentboy, lucky. lots of hurt/comfort and a HEA.
cash, lucky’s roommate, and rae have a steamy one-night-stand and think that’s it. however, rae comes stumbling back into his life when they’re united by a shared cause: stopping illegal fox hunts.
isha, dom’s former manager, current business partner, has a secret: he’s gay. recently divorced and now trying his hand at being a single dad, he meets pet store owner, jude, when he arranges his son’s birthday party.
micah is dom’s football friend. a horrible accident has left him disabled and forced him to retire. money troubles lead him to rent a room from book nerd, sam.
all stories technically stand alone, but reading them in order does give you some interesting character background as the world gradually expands.
rented heart (series)
rented heart
soul to keep
when rentboy and recovering addict, zac, meets liam, ex-surfer and ceo still dealing with his longtime partner’s death, their chemistry is undeniable. but their arrangement gets complicated when zac’s friend - fellow rentboy and current addict, jamie - shows back up, bringing all his problems with him.
in the follow-up, soul to keep, jamie takes center stage. recently returned to england, he struggles with sobriety and crippling anxiety, not to mention trying to find a job. fortunately, a disabled vet is willing to take a chance on him, hiring him to help clean up his mother’s home after her passing.
in true garrett leigh fashion, these stories are high-drama, high-intensity, and do not shy away from delving into dark topics. they’re really good though. i can see why she’s won multiple awards for her writing.
what remains (standalone)
after a traumatic accident, jodi peters is left with amnesia, entirely forgetting his longterm relationship with firefighter, rupert, and even, yes, that he’s bisexual. it puts their relationship to the ultimate test.
this HURT. omg, it was so sad, i cried through so much of this. but it was also one of those deeply satisfying endings because it made us go through all that pain to get there.
kate hawthorne
two truths and a lie (series)
a real good lie
a cold hard truth
the first book focuses on a fake relationship. the second book focuses on side characters from the first. it’s a bit dark but there’s an edge of unbelievability to everything that keeps it from being too much. like, it’s a little bit soap opera-y, if that makes sense. still, i enjoyed them, and i’m looking forward to the third and final book coming out in 2022.
lynn van dorn
the oleander chronicles (series)
reunion
rebound
first book in the series is about high school sweethearts getting back together after being torn apart by misunderstanding. second book in the series is about side characters from the first meeting, falling into a sexual relationship, and then falling in love.
as with van dorn’s other works, there are a lot of bdsm/kink elements that come into play. nothing too heavy, but definitely some d/s.
meet me at midnight (short story)
a horny short about a frat hazing prank really intended to humiliate everyone. beck, frat treasurer and hot straight boy, gets drafted into a glory hole game where frat pledges are forced to service frat members or they lose their place. adrian, beck’s secret admirer and reluctant pledge to the fraternity, realizes he gets paired with the object of his desire. in kind of a porny cinderella twist, beck can’t get the incident out of his mind and must find the pledge with the most amazing mouth.
it’s so ridiculous and there are so many things that are fucked up about the premise, but i do not care. thoroughly enjoyed.
royally screwed: a tale of two princes (standalone)
suspend your disbelief. this is an arranged marriage trope meets bdsm impact play story. there’s a lot going on here. it’s another lgbtq+ romance where princes - one straight, one gay - wind up betrothed. and they can’t stand each other. in an effort to foster good will, they’re sent to boarding school together, which sets off some, uh, uncomfortable events.
despite all the potential for squick, i actually found this a really good story. i liked it so much, i downloaded an extra epilogue just because i wasn’t ready to leave it yet.
trigger warnings: spanking, crying, domestic abuse (not between the main characters), homophobia
wild by nature (short story)
hayden has a fight with his boyfriend while on vacation in the UP and stomps off in a snit. he has an accident, is injured, and then rescued by UP-native, kurt. it’s a few horny, intense days in kurt jorgensson’s little house while hayden recovers.
this was a bit of a weird one for me, but it had enough to keep me going. if it had been only about the kink, i probably would have stopped reading, but there’s enough of a plot to carry it off, i think.
trigger warnings: age difference, daddy kink, abusive relationship (not between the main characters)
heart eyes press lgbtq; various authors
vino and veritas (series)
unforgettable
undone
limelight
stronghold
showstopper
these are the latest batch of stories published in the series. unforgettable is actually 14th in the series. these are typically written as standalones, so you can kind of jump in wherever you want.
unforgettable is a one-night-stand turned fake relationship. very funny, cute, and romantic.
undone features murph, a character who was introduced in unforgettable, but it’s not necessary to have read it to understand this. basically, flamboyant, independent murph gets a new roommate after his moves out. and he’s straight. only maybe not because he seems to be acting jealous af whenever someone shows interest in murph.
limelight is about a virginal poet with stage fright falling for a formerly-famous mead-maker.
stronghold is about skyler, who’s been previously introduced in other v&v stories, reuniting with his childhood best friend, judson.
showstopper is interesting in the series as it focuses more on college life at the nearby campus where a hockey player reluctantly has to take a theater class and gets tutored by a theater geek. they hate each other. or do they?
jay hogan
digging deep (standalone)
this might be a touchy subject for some. the main character has crohn’s disease. it’s a major part of the plot. if chronic illness and/or poop offends you, this may not be the story for you.
that being said, this is a really lovely story about finding love and making it work despite your illness. i found it really touching and hopeful.
painted bay (series)
off balance
the first in an ongoing series. this focuses on a former professional dancer who, after being diagnosed with a chronic illness, is forced to retire and return home to his family in painted bay. it brings up a bunch of hard feelings and the only sunny spot seems to be his interactions with the town’s fish & wildlife officer.
a bit heavy and more plotty than some other romance novels, but that’s kind of hogan’s signature style, maybe.
rhys everly
street love (standalone)
this hurt me a little but i think it was well-done. it’s about two gay kids, both who are forced into homelessness. after a chance meeting, they forge a bond that helps them both off the street.
it’s a tearjerker but it gives you that HEA.
lily morton
mixed messages (series)
rule breaker
deal maker
risk taker
this series starts with a sexier, gay version of the proposal where dylan, assistant to high-powered lawyer, gabe, hates his boss. or at least he says he does.
jude, dylan’s best friend and former roommate (also, if you read spring strings, jude appears as malachi’s ex-boyfriend), has a problem. he’s way short on cash and his neighbor’s bathtub just crashed through his bedroom ceiling. he’s shut out of his apartment until all the flood damage can be fixed. enter asa, single dad and actor making a comeback, not to mention jude’s friends-with-benefits’ stepbrother.
finally, we get reacquainted with henry, gabe’s friend introduced in book one. henry’s lonely. mostly because henry’s been in love with his stepbrother, ivo, since he was sixteen.
i loved this series. it was still dramatic but pretty rom-com-esque.
black and blue (series)
the mysterious and amazing blue billings
a quiet house
a departure from morton’s usual works, this is heavily ground in the supernatural/fantasy genre. in the first book, introverted illustrator, levi black, inherits a haunted house. he hires blue billings, who runs the local ghost tour, to help him solve the mystery. along the way, they develop a strong attraction to one another. the second book delves more into blue’s background and expands the world with another ghost-centric adventure.
absolutely loved these, 100% do recommend reading.
spring strings (short story)
absolutely adorable short about a model, malachi, who gets sick at an on-location shoot in the countryside. the farm’s owner winds up with an unexpected house guest and sparks fly.
the stopping place (short story)
i think morton might be the master of the romantic short story. this starts us ‘in the middle’ of the story; the characters have already met and been acquainted for a while so their backstory is presented succinctly as to move us immediately into the conflict: the protag wants his caretaker and love interest to stay even though he no longer needs a caretaker. she does a really great job of getting us invested in their romance and tragedy. i loved this little short.
best love (short story)
best friends to lovers!! noah and sage’s feelings finally come to the fore when a dating app matches them up on a blind date. they decide to show each other their ideal date.
riley hart
beautiful and terrible things (standalone)
joey and gage met when they were seven years old, opposites in almost every way, but the best of friends regardless. when they were seventeen, they fell in love. just before graduation, something terrible happens. joey and gage don’t see each other again for ten years, and when they do, they are both changed by the tragic events that befell them. but perhaps they can finally begin to heal.
another story that hurts so good.
trigger warnings: childhood physical and verbal abuse, some violence, depression, and anxiety

Azra Ayla is one of the main characters of the series Destiny’s Burden: The Choice of a Hero. She is an identity driven Dark Lord that fought in the Chosen Rebellion alongside her brothers, specifically, as a terrorist. Azra was born a Dark Lord, destined to be a villain and be defeated by a Chosen One claimed to be more valuable than her. Dark Lords never had a say in what lives they wanted, especially when society shoved them away and abused their kind simply because destiny said they were villains. Eventually the Dark Lords grew upset of the cycle and chose to try and fight against it, to claim the world as their own. One organization in this was the Chosen Rebellion, a group of Dark Lords that train their members into becoming assassins in order to slaughter those that saw them as monsters, and while it started as a peace rally organization, it only grew more violent when new leaders stepped in, as well as Azra and her older brother joining. Because Azra had her parents killed while they tried to escape, she and her brothers were captured by the Royal Flame and enslaved, and after their torture, it wasn’t until the leader of the Chosen Rebellion, Rin Klyde, rescued them to make them her troops. However, even all the way back then, Azra knew something wasn’t right about the whole thing, especially with how violent her brother had become from their situation. She went through with it though, because who was she without it?
That question became her entire motivation one day, when she and Ares raided a train to exterminate traitors. Azra was separated from her brother after they got attacked, and Azra ended up meeting a little girl, who was a Dark Lord like her, and it finally hit her how much she was worsening the situation for her kind. She was becoming exactly what destiny wanted, what she feared, what they have tried to stop society from viewing them as: Dark Lords.
So she fled, she left her brother behind, left him to think she was dead. She followed where the train went, and arrived at Moonlight Empire, a capital for Chosen Ones. Ever since she was raised by another Dark Lord in disguise, a kind hearted bookstore owner named Dusk, and he gave her the chance to join Eus Yram Academia alongside the Chosen Ones and redeem herself, get her to turn herself into a hero, just like them. So she disguised herself as like them, wearing glasses to hide the black sclera of her eyes and giving her a whole new name. If anyone found out she was a Dark Lord, let alone what she used to be, the penalty would be her execution.
Azra Ayla is named after the Islam goddess, Azrael, an angel of death that separated bodies from souls. The very concept of that goes into her entire character as a former soul trying to strip away from her own body symbolically, where literally, it’s a former terrorist seeking redemption and trying to remove her own body, especially where her soul speaks differently from it. Originally, Azra was meant to be a villain in the story, as the evil sister of two. The ‘good’ sister was removed entirely for the sake of another character, and soon enough, Azra became both younger in age, and far more sympathetic as drafts went on. She soon became a dark lord hiding in the shadows, disguised as the adoptive guardian of the main character where she faked her death and soon came back to be the ‘antagonist’ the main characters have searched her, but soon revealed to never be a villain as she was simply doing her job. In that draft, her sister there was the insane one, believing the classic trope and thinking that there was no way she could be the villain because she’s more virtuous. That sister, soon gender-flipped into a brother, would remain the same in that context but with a different origin explaining that. For Azra though, the more I’ve written her, I began to realize that there was far more potential for Azra if she was on the main character’s side, seeking redemption after once being a villain. Especially when the twist would eventually come that she is a Dark Lord, the other characters would at first assume that she’s the twist villain (this is a world that relies on Chosen One stories that rely on tropes after all) But given how audiences now are sick of twist villains being revealed at the end and how little impact they would get as threats, this twist would work with the expectation that the audience would care less that Azra is a Dark Lord, and will also be invested in her when she reveals herself as a genuine person, therefore making her scenes before in her disguise legitimate development, rather as completely fake.
Ever since her past as a terrorist, where her brother became a monster and she trusted him the most of anyone, Azra’s first reaction to things is to lay low in the shadows, keeping her voice monotone and cold, and especially rely only on herself. She’s stuck around the very people who resented her kind, of course she wouldn’t want to hang out with them right away. This may make her appear as cold and stern, and even a grumpy emo at times, where while that is true, she acts that way to drive others away simply because she’s scared. If they knew the real her, they would probably hate her, or worse, and Azra believes that she deserves to be hated. She tried to make her schooling with the Chosen Ones a solo mission, as an introverted way to express sincerity that Dark Lords could be good, except for the school requires students to be partnered up with someone that is a foil to them, and that leaves Azra to be paired up with the main character’s sister, Cheryl. Of course, Azra tries to push her away, annoyed by Cheryl’s extroverted, energetic, open, and talkative personality. She shows respect for another introvert known as Fran, a girl also in disguise, especially when they showed a similar interest in literature. (Even if Azra is into Twilight, and also all kinds of adult sexually inappropriate books) However, Azra doesn’t do well when her buttons are pushed, and when they do, that’s when she actively speaks out and defends herself, and a slave student in the school Lulu, and it’s because of that where she actively stands up to Astrid and even become her enemy student. She tried to deny friendship being an answer to keep her redemption strategic and all-business, but that’s before she begins to see the other student’s kindness and willing to help her through her issues, and Azra begins to really like them, especially Cheryl, who she eventually develops feelings for.
Azra has some trauma, and she has her flaws, but she is still a person like the rest of them. She is one of the only people willing to charge into a problem right away, even without a plan, as she isn’t afraid to speak her mind, scream it if she has to. She isn’t emotionless either, as she is capable of being a good listener and even be a passive help in the small tasks. Azra’s biggest conflict through most of these things, is herself. Due to her past and realizing how much of a villain she was before, Azra doesn’t see herself as a good person, and she’s quick to blame herself for things that go wrong. She would mostly think that she’s the problem in situations, and quickly resort to self loathing, thinking that she’s not worth anyone’s time and that she’s completely irredeemable. If anything, her way of seeking redemption in the form of others, would be to first redeem herself in herself, and love herself instead of hate it.
Azra is also my friend’s favorite character in this book series... so I guess that makes her a fan favorite considering nobody else had read my work 😢
Join her journey in the series Destiny’s Burden: The Choice of a Hero. Available on Wattpad under @AnalyzGolden. There are three chapters out now, I post a new chapter there every Friday, and PLEASE, CHECK IT OUT. I have been working on that for four years, and after almost two years of working on this series nonstop, it would mean so much to be if you read my work and even voted on it. I haven’t had anyone read this yet and it’s hurt my feelings, so it would mean so much to me if you checked it out. You might just love it, I’ve gotten some great praise from the two people that actually read my work.
